Sorry about that Grogs. It's rough when you put so much work into something then someone squashes it.

I found this entertaining - It's a tally of the stuff that people think is the "Weaseliest" I got a good laugh out of it as I was procrastinating.

@Kaysaar - I'd agree with 99% of those... I just have no idea who Bill O'riley is?????

This is going to be long as I have the it's with work and have been surfing the net for the last 4 hours (should have been running Baal  ), so look away now........

I know that this would most likely be better suited for the trade threads but I refuse to trade with people I dont really know

Amen to that Ronin, I've been bored at work and have been skimming the net and other forums..... It's little wonder I gave up Bnet, saw a zod being traded for 2 ists and a pul, it bought a tear to my eye I tell you.....

Which brings me to my OT point. Why is it that people feel the need to cheat at a game? If they do that, what does it say about their character in RL.

I am a big believer in the fact that the internet and interactive games are good for a child's (and adults for that matter) development. Games such as D2 give you the opportunity to interact with people who are from different places, have different lives and can offer a different perspective. Great all round I say, not as beneficial as travelling round the world, true, but it's the next best thing.

My point, (if I really have one in all this rambling) is, why should a child be exposed to a virtual world where cheating/ hacking/ duping is tolerated if not openly encouraged, what is this telling them about what is acceptable in RL? (not so much at RPG forums, but others I've seen give suggestions like get a bot. It's a great way to get items etc etc).

As far as I can tell, all this is going to achieve is to grow a generation of people who will always take the easiest way out, will always look for short cuts, and cheat. I would have serious doubts about letting my child play a game online that encouraged such behaviour.

Single player on the other hand is a much better proposition. For a start you have a community that enjoys playing the game, why? Because it is a very good game! You really notice the difference in the style of posts, the grammar, the puntuation and the tone.

What do you guys think????

-Grogs

Ps: You can tell I didn't have a very good day at work as I've posted basically a page in the Beacon's by myself!!!!!!!!!!! :uhhuh:

PPs: isn't this place quiet without Corax around

EDIT: Carrying on about grammar, you'd think I'd get mine right, wouldn't you?

Remember too that offensive GC's will also boost your hammer damage by about the same amount (increasing conviction aura).

It's the concentration aura, I think, that boosts hammer damage.

@grogs: I mostly agree on what you said on interactive games and such. Not to mention that the kids' ability to discern things ain't that good yet and it would be yet another negative influence on them. But then again, D2 does have a "M" rating on it. Like anyone noticed. :teeth: Another reason why I play SP exclusively. :xsmile:

Right you are! Happens when you don't re-read your posts!

As for the M rating, that's just the thing, everything else that carries an age limit can be enforced, driving, drinking, smoking, hell even going to the movies more or less. The thing with games is that anyone can buy the game and give it to a kid as a christmas present, how can you enforce that?

My comments weren't only directed at D2, there are games out there that are far worse.

And yes, SP is the thing that saved this game for me too.

Well I'm up several hours earlier then I normally would be because I'm off to a my psych final. Wish me luck!

Good luck Kaysaar!

Wohoo only 2 days to friday, and my trip to Copenhagen!! Can't wait! :flip:

Found alot of nice things yesterday for my upcoming giveaway.
Corax: if you're still searching for that stormlash be sure to put all the other nice things you find aside, so we can give some stuff away :)

Had to give Rebecca some quality time, and will have to do it tonight too as she's starting to think I love the computer more than her (stupid game she calls it  )

I think your wife must've had a discussion with mine about D2. I, myself, have just started scheduling quality time in my mind ahead of time so there is no interference with my D2 time. hehe It used to be alot worse when I was on cattle 24/7. - Sorry bout you losing your contract...Learn from it and move on.

Thanks for the input on my college possibilities. Overall, I would really just love the extra knowledge, but I would have to change careers. It's a tough decision. I think some of it is just me wanting to finish what I started 10 years ago education wise. However, I am making decent money with only a diploma. I mean I can support my wife and family without her having to work. We have a decent home and automobiles...I'm truly thankful for where I am...I just can't stand the thought of there being untapped potential in me to do more.

@ roninD - Friday nights good. I'll read the guide. I'm all for SP. I have a sorc at level 58 right now pwns everything in NM. I am a little concerned bout getting to hell though. Not sure how well I can control fire damage.

@everyone - Hope everyone takes a little time to enjoy the holidays. Don't just rush through. - K. Now everyone take a deep breath with me right now and hum Silver Bells.
:xsmile4:

All done the exam... only took 40 min. I'm optimistic :uhhuh:

When I'm with my girl and i'm using the comp, she usually comes over and sits on my lap and watches what ever I'm playing until and decides to ask if she can try it.

Morning all, I better make this short and sweet as my before holiday deadlines are creeping up on me. Actually, since I have taken only 3 days of time off, I am stopping work on Dec 14, and not going back until Jan 4, which will be one hellofa nice break for me. I am only 5 work days away from that, and the anticipation is growing. General Comment: Of course the US is the weasilest country...how do you think we got to be the world power we are? Not by being the Swiss or French, Ill tell you that. :xgrin:

@Kung_Poo - congratulations on your upcoming marriage and welcome to the crew of married folks. Im sure you will find that marriage is a wonderful thing, and I wish you and her the best of luck in the future.

@Kaysaar - I didnt get a chance to wish you luck....but I hope that you did well on your exam. Just think that you will be with you GF as soon as its all over. I remember loathing exam time when I went to college, but once it came around it was over quicker than you realized.

@grogs - Yes we do have a tendency to agree on alot of issues  , perhaps because weve got some similar history. We are both a little older than the majority of the population here in the SPF and had a troublesome youth only to come out of it to find ourselves working coporate. No wonder we think alike. Nice comments on the college thing as well wtr getting your company to subsidize although I think the big issue is that the two fields are unrelated. Im also sorry to hear about your contract, but Im sure that you win some and lose some. Its part of the industry. Good luck in the future. As far as my wife and I, well, she likes games almost as much as I do so when I play I usually dont take any heat for it at all. In fact some of our set aside time together is spent playing games.

As for the charms, yes Ill take pally offensive too if anyone has some they are willing to trade away.

@oapwm - If you were given 50 dollars while on a game show and had a chance to win 100 or lose the 50 would you take the bet? I personally would walk away with the 50 but thats me (without my inverstor hat on). Although different in nature I think that this is similar to your situation. You have a decent paying, steady job now (50 dollars) but you would like to get an education, change careers, and see what untapped potential you have (chance for 100 dollars). Ultimately the choice is yours, and it depends if you are willing to take a risk to get to that higher level. Im sure no matter what you do you will succeed, youve made it this far in your life and Im sure that will continue to be the case, so now you have to decide if you really think it will be worthwhile. Theres alot to consider here aside from just having the dream so I think you should also look at it from a strategic standpoint before you decide. Think of it as a problem to tackle. I would check out all costs, estimated time to complete, necessary time to invest, whether you can afford to go full time or will need to work part time, if your company will subsidize your education (perhaps you can get a degree related to your field instead of an IT one where they will subsidize you), and other similar questions. Then weigh the risks/benefits that are associated and determine if you think you will be willing to take that risk.

On a side note, I cannot MP friday night because I have to attend a Christmas party for my wife's friends. Perhpas Saturday night instead? And is your SP sorc HC or SC?

Goodluck M8 :buddies:

@Rizzo - Have fun in Copenhagen! Enjoy your stay! Lovely lady! Anyone else willing to post pix of themselves and significant others? It would be interesting to see all of you in RL.

@corax - Oi where you at?

Take Care all,

-roninDOG

I have a Christmas party Saturday night. However seeing the time difference, I still might be able to MP. The party starts at 2pm your time...hehe.
:xgift: Sorc is SC. If she were HC, I would have lost her on NM p8 Countess run. -On a side note, I have found 6 shael runes so far as opposed to 1 with my lvl 82 Sin.

Morning All!!!!

Well what a difference a day can make. from the disappointment of yesterday's contract loss to the highs of winning!!! It looks very favourable that I'll pick up a contract at a retiremerment village, am pretty happy about that as it'll fill in a rather large hole in Feb - March.

- you see, if I don't win any work then then my tradesmen don't have any food!! It's a fairly onerous resposibility and at times can way heavily on your mind.

@Ronin - How I used to love risk assessment @ uni. As I see it the problem with life is that there is always an opportunity cost to weigh. I think that if we dwelt on the matter too much, we'd get nothing done at all, we'd spend our lives worrying about what we are about to miss out on. As your comments indicated it really comes down to how risk adverse a person is. To quote an old saying - "A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush"

@Opawn - Not my wife yet, although I'm now feeling the pressure to make it official! Next year I'm planning on buying another house (work is paying my rent for a year where I am now, as they asked me to move up here - Nice), and after that we'll make it official.

But yes, they must have been talking!!!! I didn't even turn the computer on last night, and won quite a few brownie points by doing so.... What's more, it was a rather enjoyable evening - Make love not war?

@everyone else - Take care and talk to you later!

Wow! An international courier!

Where in Mexico?

Have fun and take care! :xman:

Hi all,

Haven't posted for a few days but have been reading all your posts and feeling a part of this great mini-community!

Many many thanks for everyone's messages of support for my situation - they have helped enormously. :xsmile3:

Now - a piccie of me in RL...ok, try this:

Simeon and Anne

Regarding the gf/wife and game thing. Anne is the one who introduced me to the mind-blowingness that is DII and we play together as often as we can. Since she's been ill that hasn't been possible as she can't sit at the computer long enough, but we're waiting for her to get better so that we can get our 1.07 SC untwinked Druid and Pally team to Pat. They're currently in Act IV Hell and for each of us they will be the very first time we've beaten the game.

Keep smiling all, and remember - only 13 shopping days until Christmas. :xmad:

I know, I know. He doesn't post for days and then there's 2 posts in a row. Spammer! :xgrin:

Anywho, thought you might like to read a short story written by Anne, my better half, to stop herself thinking about the chemo. It was intended to go on a dog forum that she's a member of, but I asked if I could post it here as well and she has allowed me to.

The Road Train

Hope you like it!
