Now I know why Chaos runners are the most senile people on earth...

I'm happy to let it die as well, got trading and levelling etc to do.

The Phesto thing was directed at someone someone else, read back a few posts and you will see.

Some people seem to have nothing better to drop into a thread with no intention other than to bump their post count up.

That's me.

Anyway, I would try just cutting off the runs if you don't get cooperation. No matter what some may say, human beings can be sensible, and people will probably understand after about the 4th time they rejoin your runs. Make with the same name, though.

Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that. I wholeheartedly agree with you on one point, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally, when I host a CS run, I don't make rules. I just let everyone have their way as I'm usually doing the runs for a fellow forumer and we communicate through whispers. If anyone insists on charging headlong into the fray and dies over an item, who cares? So long as they don't blame me for their ignorance, I'm fine with it. I do my MF and socketable runs in private passworded games anyway.

If I join a CS run hosted by others I abide by their rules, should there be any. As I said, I'm just there to level. Whether or not you do is entirely your choice. Have fun and good luck in your runs.

What an outrageous assertion.

It is a constant source of amusement for me to come to these forums and read the endless complaints about the B.net brats on East and West. Asia 1 has virtually none of the problems reported here on a daily basis.

Asia rarely gets spam bots, the only reason to put a level restriction on is to... well... restrict the levels of players in the game.

While people do occassionally say "TP", I have never, ever, seen anyone spam "tptptptptptptptptptptptptptptptptp". Players are courteous enough to know that it takes time to reach the throne and are experienced enough to realise that the person will open a tp when it is safe to do so.

There is an accepted format for CS runs that almost everybody abides by in public games, and those that do not learn very quickly:

1. Runner gets drops. He/she is giving you massive amounts of experience, usually without asking, and he has a right to payment for services rendered. If the runner moves on to the next mob without picking an item, and is clearly abandoning it, then other party members can pick (be aware though that sometimes they move on out of necessity and can't pick up the drops straight away). If the runner drops an item, anybody can take it.

2. There are well known "safe zones" for low level characters to stand at. These are safe places that do not restrict exp gain in any way. Simply put they are, among several other places, across the lava pits at the seals. Another one is on either side of the pillar where someone can stand without fear of being fried by Diablo's spells. Low level characters are expected to stay in these safe zones until it is clearly safe to move on to the next. This also prevents anybody but the runner from hitting the seals.

3. Never override the host's curses, auras or warcries unless you know your own are of a higher level. In other words, if you are a level 50 Barb with maxed BO by all means use it, but if you are a lvl 50 sorc with a +1 BO CtA keep it on switch. If you are a Hammerdin and the host is one too, do not use Concentration, switch to a safety aura like Resist Fire or Prayer if you have it.

4. If the host leaves the party someone is breaking the rules. Leave the party and wait for him/her to reinvite you. If you are over level 70 you will be invited only if the host wants you. If you are over 85 there is almost no chance you will be allowed in the party unless you are soloing Baal or something. If you are over 85 and you enter the CS you WILL be hostiled.

There's probably something else, but I started replying to this thread about an hour ago and have been doing other things so can't remember what I was saying.

Sure, we have idiots and the other stuff on Asia but it is NOTHING like what you people on East and West whine about. There's no eBay junk, the dupes are few and far between and the worst spam you will ever get is someone that gets no response from asking to join the party a couple of times then repeats "party plz" a few times until they are invited.

I have to attest to this. Indeed chaos runs on Asia are very smooth. Everyone understands what they have to do and where they have to be. My favorite moment is when 7 of us were huddling in one of those safe corners and a monster wandered into our midst. I thought for sure the run is going to turn into a mess with everyone scattering, but instead, everyone stayed calmly where they were. One of them, an assassin IIRC, held the thing down with MB as best he could, and the monster ended up killing two people before the runner got to us and killed it. Someone opened a tp, everyone got their bodies, no harm done, and no mess. Hell would freeze over before something like that happens in a pub chaos run on East.

As for this whole issue of setting rules vs. bullying people, it seems clear that if you're low level (1-60) then you're here for the free exp. You're here, along with others, so that one person will bring in his very powerful character and spend a lot of gold (repairs and merc) on killing these monsters for you so that you can boost yourself to baal run levels in no time. Do you really think he's getting a lot of exp? Sure he might be getting some, but he'll get about the same amount in baal runs, which are MUCH easier to run.

The real difference in chaos runs is the sheer amount of high mlvl monsters that collectively have a decent chance of giving you some nice drops. Besides, isn't it the least bit exploitive when you run around doing nothing in a game, make five levels because someone is working hard up ahead, and when something good drops, probably because of the RUNNER'S great mf, you get to take it?

At the end of the day, you have to look at the origins of the thing. Chaos runs where 1 high level guy kills and 7 level 1s soak exp is a new thing (looking at the long history of the game). The reason they even exist is because there are so many people that get rushed to hell at level 1 and need to chaos. Without it, there would be no point in glitch rushing. If there are no chaos runs, you ain't levelling in a hell.

I absolutely hate it when people do that. I hate it even more if it's a trade game, because it keeps the customers away. Usually, I ask them politely to leave, but some of them bastards won't even respond. At least they could ask if it's ok...

But back to topic: are there any people from Europe that are willing to lead Chaos runs? Sounds interesting to me.

I might create a series of chaos runs.. I'll create a thread in the Match Up forum later..

I wonder if it's possible to get an internet connection in Europe that doesn't lag if playing in Asia... sounds like a wonderful place

Now if only I could speak.....crap there's a lot of languages in Asia isn't there?...

Yea not that I'm trying to stress the point again, but I don't try in any way to bully people around, but I won't lie in that I have to state those rules to all the players each game. I do this for two reasons: One-Well....lets just say that most people aren't as cordial and respectful on East as they are on Asia as Sokar described, and two, I just say it every game due to their usually always being new players in a game because of someone getting dropped or someone beating the previous players into the game.

Btw, no offense, but some of us complain rather than whine.

*Puts forward a conjecture about said cooperativeness relating to Asian culture, contextualised within authoritarian cultural themes running from Confucius to the partly Communist present*

*Flees accusations of racism*

I can attest to this as well. I have met several folks from the Asia realm. They were wonderful players/people and are the sole reason I do CS runs the way I do them today. Whenever one them would rush me or do leveling runs for me, they would insist that I got all of the drops. Said it was BM to take drops from someone who obviously needed them more than they did. They always insisted that that was just how things were done. I've often thought about moving over there but am not sure about the language barriers. Would I be able to understand them and vice-versa?

I've always wondered why people insist on following the runner, even to their death when it's so much easier to stand in the safe zones though.

Yea, I'm sure this has been answered before, but what is the distance from which you can stand in order to get xp? If I can recall it was about 2 screens away, but I could be wrong.

They follow the runners because they want itamz.

I have no more lag playing on East, West or Europe than I do playing on Asia, and I only upgraded from 56k-256k about 6 months ago.

The majority of players speak English. The Japanese players are known to refuse to do so (I have never found out why... ), and you will find that JPN-1 is the only channel where English isn't spoken. Other than that, even those that actually don't speak English can understand when you say "TP" or "PARTY". In fact, I have even picked up a smattering of Korean and Chinese (don't ask which kind, I don't know) and can recognise the wingdings when someone is asking for a TP from a different character set. Basically, Asia is not much different to Europe.

We have that saying here, maybe it's a British thing.

We have it here in the states too.... I guess some ppl have never heard it before.
