My lite/fire sorc is doing just fine - lvl 57 and act V. I have some problems with baal's minions though - especially that final machine-spawnage. And I wonder why the waves keep coming and coming - I thought you must kill the first wave, in order the second to come and etc.?

Normally, Baal summons the next wave if there are no more monsters near him. But "near him" doesn't cover the entire throne room. It can happen that the remaining monsters in a wave flee (or are lured) too far away from Baal, and he'll start summoning the next wave. Too bad you can't lure that infernal machinette away, huh? ;)

Also, I did it! I completed the Cathedral of Vanity quest, and with it, the AC500! For good measure, I also went into Toraja and whooped Lilith's behind. Yay me... :jig:

I really liked the way Rathma Square and Toraja look. The square seems pretty unique in it's layout and style. And Toraja is one of the most eerily desolated looking parts of the game. Fantastic work, Laz!

My unholy Melee Pally is now in Act 3 Terror, and he's really been a blast to play. He's almost playing out like a clod assassin, because he's just got so many damn hotkeys to use and switch between, but it's been great fun. Recently ditched the Unique long sword that I've been upgrading/using ever since level 2 for an honorific military pick (5)...Mmmm, all the mana per striking I could ever want :D
Also, made an honorofic belt, and my gosh it's just so insanely useful and customisable. Wasted an um on the runeword for boots, but it turns out hamstring wasn't really needed on my character, and the other mods were just meh.
What's been bugging me is why we have to wait all the way to destruction to complete either AC250 or 500, I mean, couldn't we just be more imba earlier? heh.
Anyway, congrats on completing AC500 Muzzz, and good luck with the sorc Scion!

I assume you're using an Abjurer, since you're enhancing lightning damage. How's his Banish working for you?
its hard to tell. i think it reduces the life of those its cast on by a %age. it has to be useful right? :D he is quite effective offensively too although many monsters are lit immune ofc.

If I'm really "must have, now" about an item, I usually gamble for it. Just getting a particular item type shouldn't take too much time. It's another story if you're picky about the tier. But unless you specifically want a low tier version, you can always use the uptier recipe. Remember to use it before using the unique creation recipe, to save on PGems.
for some reason this never occurred to me :dopey: a few mins spent with jamella and i have a tier 3 tower shield :)

well done on completing the 500 stat challenge :)

my new barb is near to starting NM now.

There used to be some much more low level challenges (Level Challenge 1: level 10), but people assumed that they had to be easy because they were low level, then complained because 'their build sucked'/'the game was too hard'.

At base level it doesn't reduce life by much, but after about +5 skills it removes 25-30% life which is quite good, especially because nothing is immune to it except the few curse immunes.

The unholy paladin stuff is going cool till now. Going on Vessel Of Judgement, Mind Flay and a lot of Shadowfiends, also using Lemures as the main fighting tactic. It's nice so far, can a character built this way make it to Hell (Destruction)? I think it can, but for some reason I get always stuck @ act 1-2 nightmare, couse I'm kinda noob ^^

i made a smart choice. Im remaking my necro

he was my first char and i made him with buckshot,angel of death and all summons but now

Im being buckshot and that other crossbow magic(the lvl 24 one),only the last 3 summons because they are the only ones who survive, and some totems.

Brother Laz, just downloaded median today and all I can say is wow. Great job man, the detail into customization is superb. Just about got owned in the Den of Evil by the pack of minions with the Den boss. One would think I would be upset, but I wasn't at all. Bringing new life to the game and causing flashbacks of when I first played D2 and got owned fairly quickly. Enough with my rant, just good to see that creativity isn't dead. Kudos.

@ Scion: Same build I'm going for. Pretty good IMO, and I'm enjoying it greatly. I've been MPing with dune's original barb. The only thing that's trouble for me is having to land a melee hit to start the chain of skills goings, especially when naked.

Need to get some CB on my weapon.

allright, i downloaded the mod, very impressive indeed! One question though.. What build is good to start with? I would prefer a caster type of char that is not a sorceress, i read something about an unholy pala. What is that, and is it viable?

^^ I always go first to the lower lvl areas, mass summon and cast, and then proceed into the higher ones. When I need I resummon my fiends and everything's ok :)

I love to have minions all around :D

Pretty much anything is viable :grin:

Anyway, you might've noticed that paladins have two holy and two unholy skill trees. Those are mutually exclusive. If you put a point into a holy skill, you won't be allowed to put points into unholy skills. And vice versa. So an unholy paladin is simply a paladin who chose to go with unholy skills.

Both holy and unholy come in two basic breeds: melee and caster. Very generally speaking, unholy melee usually focuses on lemures and blood thorns, while unholy casters often focus on mind flay and slayer.

Woo, I love my little summoner/caster/melee paladin, level 62 and I'm pwning Stony field and Dark woods @ nightmare.

Made Enyo, Ilmatar and Lumen Arcana, and now beside my 10 shadow fiends I've got 10+ acid beasts who can tank too ^^ Found unique tier 4 chain gloves, which help me a lot with my melee with these 30 FRW and 20 IAS ^^ I go, summon those fiends, cast my Vessel of Judgement and enter the Lemures frenzy, all along with my summoned creatures. So far, so good ^^ My mind flay does only 600 dmg, but it's for emergency cases :p

Don't you find that you have to resummon way too many times with the shadow fiends? I gave up trying to use them after having to resummon them about twice every fight, especially when there's a lot of crossfire from elemental shard attacks.

Well, for now I don't resummon them too much - 3.2k hp for act II nightmare is not so low, especially with the 20 % hp boost from Enyo :) But I fear that they will start s*cking around act IV or V, we shall see.. :p

I really love this mod, and I did play all the earlier versions aswell. Overall it gets better and better, although I am not too fond of the increased amount of highly graphical autotarget skills. (prefered them when they were active skills, especially hammer of judgement) Some weapons are quite oddly balanced relative to each other, but that goes for vanilla d2 aswell.

I have a few chars in early act 2 at the moment, notably a spearama, a crossbow necro and an elemental melee assasin. All three have been improved greatly since median 2008 and seems very interesting. My biggest problem is that while I keep longing to try out the endgame i just can't keep myself from trying yet another build...

I want to give this a shot, but I didn't like the character I started playing. It was an unholy Paladin focusing on Mind.. something. Mind Flay? It was a Chain Lightningesque skill. Anyway killing speed really sucked by the time I reached the Outer Cloister, so I'm not really enjoying him.

Please recommend me a build. Something you've enjoyed, something you know is viable throughout the game, or whatever. Caster slightly preferred to melee. Thanks :)

It might help if you tell us your definition of "viable". Because from what I've read, most people consider the unholy caster pretty viable ;)

Anyway, most casters aren't as item-independent as the cookie-cutters you may be used to in plain ol' D2. Not that they stink without "uber" gear, or anything of the sort. But you'll probably want to get some +% elemental damage or -enemy resistance to keep the damage up. And don't be afraid to spend a hundred or so points in energy. Yes, energy :grin:

Also, I think it's fairly common to reach a small speed bump at the end of Act 1. I usually get my preferred low-level runewords around halfway through the act, which leaves little opportunity for upgrades until tier 2 items start appearing.

As for build suggestions, try browsing the official MXL forums. There's dozens of concepts and guides floating around there. The only build I've personally taken everywhere is my simple physical-damage summon necro. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a reasonable simple and safe first character. As long as you don't mind tagging behind a wall of minions, of course. My most advanced caster is the cold/poison/charm druid, who just rescued Anya in Hatred. I'm greatly enjoying him, although I guess charm is an acquired taste.

Yes, that is maybe one of the biggest differences in character building in Median. Str, Dex and Energy are so important, and the +life per level is so high that builds are usually better of with no points in vitality. (compare that to LoD if you want)

Clearly brings a new interesting aspect into character building.

Hey Muzzz, when you use charm, and you kill off the monsters with SoE (?) or culling of the herd, do you get exp for it? I've been hesitant about using charm like skills because I keep thinking if monsters kill the charmed one, I won't get exp for it, or if I kill the charmed one, I don't get exp because it was 'on my side'.

Yup, you get the experience.

I invested in brambles with vague notions of getting spell damage out of it through beast within and force of nature. Usually I also flash one-point culling for the speed reduction. It was the most fun I've ever had in Tran Athulua.
