Cailleach has made Slayer, and Nihlathak has made Destroyer. Sure, it doesn't sound terribly spectacular either way, but considering the fact that I never figured either of them to get much past Duriel, if that far, I believe it's cause for celebration! :D

Here's the fight/drop details:

Cailleach - Cleaned house from the Glacial Trail to the Worldstone Keep. Found a Chieftain while cleaning the WSK. Colenzo dropped a Hellcast, and everybody else dropped like flies. Baal dropped Arctic Horn, Milabrega's Orb, and a few random crap rares and magic items.

Nihlathak, whom she made a special side-trip to "visit", dropped nothing, though she found a Skewer of Krinitz in one of the wings of the Halls of Vaught.

Speaking of which...

Nihlathak - Everything went fairly easily up to Baal's Compatritots. The Ancients promised to be a hassle, but they just took forever to finish off. The WSK was pretty disappointing, save for when I was shunted across the room twice by exploding Hell Spawn. Clean house all around the main throne room, then enter the throne room. Use AmpDmg on all the minions (Colenzo dropped me a Hellcast) up to Ventar the Unholy, at which point I started using Decrepify. It slowed the killing speed, but I kept my Blood Golem.

Then came Lister, and all hell broke loose.

I blink, and my BG's gone. Blink again, and the merc's gone. (keep in mind, I'd decrep'd the lot of them by then). Blink, take a breath, and I'm down from six skeletons (max at this point: 7) to ONE, and he's just barely making it. So I pop back to town, resurrect my merc, go to the Arcane Sanctuary to "borrow" some Summominions, then go back to face Lister's group. I decrep on arrival, and things start looking bad again. I switch to AmpDmg. List & Co. drop like flies. Watch Baal flee through the portal. I grab the Hellcast, stash it, and follow.

The fight with Baal went rather similarly (not a word, don't shoot me) to the one with Lister. this time, after coming back fully armed/armored, I just decrep'd on sight and didn't stop. Went through ALL my full rejuvs and probably about six mana potions (downed two health pots max, because of the stupid cold-knockback attack) Baal dropped my second Tancred's Skull, Cleglaw's Tooth, Arcanna's Deathwand, and a few other crap things.

That said, I've blathered enough. I'm now off to my quiet corner to enjoy my pomegranate juice and muse on today's happenings.

BTW, Nihlathak made Destroyer about 20 minutes after Cailleach made Slayer. :D

Congratulations on your Destroyer and Slayer, Lady S. Great to see the HC necro dealing with the big-hitters.

I guess we're all a bit affected by a number of departures, L_W. Good luck with your tests, and hopefully you'll be fired up to get right back to it in a couple of weeks. It's great to know you're still around & posting occasionally, even if you're not keeping up your usual frenetic pace.

I haven't had any time for D2 recently, and probably won't for a week or two, as work and baseball are really amping up. Still, I had a pretty good day yesterday workwise, and achieved a fair bit. We're also going out to lunch today (just love Fridays), and will be having a quiet celebration of St Pat's day just gone, as we were all too busy to take lunch then.

No need to guess what I'll be drinking! :drink:

I must confess... I couldn't resist Civ3 and now my hunter/summoner druid is still stuck at Act2 normal. Arrgh!
*gets up and beats his head on claw machine and is awarded with a demon imp doll which promptly starts teleporting around the bar and knocking down empty bottles*

And now this. Still I must not grumble. Today happened the biggest car accident in the history of my country. I will spare you all from the details... So things could have been worse.

Anyway, it's Friday. I'm not going to do well this quarter, but it's finally over and I'm shopping for a new major. :/ That'll make 5. *sigh*. I think I'm finally onto something this time. I'm really sick of not enjoying what I'm doing in school, so it'd better work.

Anyway, finally was able to put the IK set on a barb today, and it was very fun. :) Vercingetorix has a happy, holy glow now. Not much other than that. Hung out with a friend and played Beyond Good and Evil, which is starting out to be a really great adventure game (and highly suggested).

Barkeep, a glass of water. I'm exactly thisclose to my first hangover, and the water seems to be helping me stave it off for some reason. I'll go with what works.

A friend and I welcomed Spring yesterday by adopting a plant and getting toasted while watching Colin Firth drool from afar over Jennifer Ehle (I MUST be sobering nicely, if I can remember her name!) Today's the first official day, though--we're getting thunderstorms, as we speak. Fine by me, as long as it's in the 50's and higher. Happy Spring, everyone! (Yeah, for most folks here, I'm a day late and a dollar short. Byte me.)

No Diablo for me just yet...waiting until I stop feeling light-headed, and can decide what I want to play. (I think I'll be giving Nihlathak a break. Having said that, of course, I'll fire him up at my next convenience and play through until he's dead, or he's beat Andy.) Also have to call maintenance--the blinds in our living room collapsed shortly after my sig. other got back from dropping me off.

Well, I'm going to take my water and sit quietly in the corner.

It's been 24 hours at least since my last post, and Nihlathak (sure enough, you saw this coming) has gone to the Dark Woods WP. He's having a lot of fun so far, though he's wishing he had revives. One more level, and he will. In other news, his best drop of the moment has been from Wind Bang the Howler, and it was a Bloodrise. *rolls eyes*

Cailleach is taking a small break for the moment. She'll get her time in the sun again, eventually.

In any event, must split.

Well, that's another one down. Katana saw the demise and fall of NM Diablo tonight, so she's allowed into the experience mines that are the Bloody Foothills. I *really* like playing this character, and totally ignore all others ATM. Man, it's gonna be a bummer when she dies.

It's probably the combined novelty of playing a character I've never played before (Assassin), using a main killing power never considered earlier (Poison), and the fact she's my first HC character that make it so much fun. Boy, I was nervous going into big-D's lair, but it all worked out.

Have a large one, all! :buddies: I'm gonna take a nap now :sleep: . Alarm in 5.5 hours... :teeth:

Still no D2 yet, but I'm about to hop on as we speak. I think I'm going to play Nihlathak again. (I'm just having so much FUN with him, though! It'll be a shame when he goes down, but these things happen. He's also untwinked, which is an entirely foreign concept to me (here's to hoping he can find something to do about his resists, which suck at the moment).

Good to hear that Nihlathak's keeping on, Shalak.

I'm not getting much D2 done at the moment, and won't be able to until next week (unless a couple of things change). I'm just really busy with work & baseball at the moment, which isn't a bad thing.

I did get a short amount of time over the weekend, and continued with my Three-Way Tourney character Sarah, who made her way towards Anya, picking up the waypoint in the caves. I found that the upgraded serpents were very annoying with their bone spears, not to mention quite unrealistic. There is no way that any cold-blooded reptile could be active in the frozen glacial caves. As for shooting bone spears from their tails, that's just silly.

I may be going back to 1.09 for a while soon.

My HCL pally had a very productive day today. Cleared out Acts 2 & 3 and is off to see Big Red. And great drops, too. 2 uniq, 4 set, one of each went immediately into service. He's a happy trooper and things are looking good.

On the downside, it's the end of a long weekend and work beckons tomorrow. I reckon I'll just have a cup o' tea and hit the sack.

Hm. i'm at home for the weekend and a little of next week before going back to some friends' places and then eventually school. the rest is nice. i'd love a nightcap of goldshlager before hitting the sack, i think. :) happy new week to you all.
 
Thanks for the good wishes, Shalak, but I doubt very much she's Hell viable, even in 1.09. But I'll try, that I will.

LowLander: Well, no harm in trying. That's how Nihlathak made Destroyer, after all, and still has the fortitude (or is it stupidity?) to do it all again. I never design my characters for Hell difficulty--I just go with what works. *hands you a Double-Shot Espresso*

Mage11: I agree, those tricked-out Claw Vipers should NOT be functioning in the caves. Closest I could see them is the Bloody Foothills, and they'd have to be guarding the catapults. Either that, or have them guarding the special Hell pit areas. Good luck with Sarah, and good luck if you decide to drop back to 1.09! :D

Nihlathak got as far as doing the Countess today. A Rockfleece dropped en route. If Rockfleece was cool in 1.09, it definitely lost coolness in 1.10:

My thought also, having only found 1.10 Rockstopper I was at loss why people would recomend such equipment for anybody.

Credit cards? I thought the emb only accepted beaver skins? Oh well...
