5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

You can clearly see that Blizzard North jumped the ship. Awkward angles in the cinema, bad, bad, unnatural movement of the characters and clichés in the stupid mono/dialogue. Sitting on something like DIII, and doing a worse job than on wow cinemas is bull****.

Many of the skills of the different classes look really unnecessary. Think immolation/magic/cold/frost arrow shot for ama in d2 or every skill in the barb tree except ww.

I've never developed a game, don't spend 8+ hours more on thinking how to design or make visual art, won't make tons of more money if it becomes another original bestseller, but come on... Doing a storyline with hero-personalities barely deeper than the sum of the whole 90's action movies is really not that much of an effort.

And they were doing so good with the H.P. Lovecraft inspired Abd al-Hazir writings.

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

Hardly jumping the ship. First year of sequels are usually the worst on fans because they have a game they've been playing for years that the developers have spent time working out the skills and bugs on and they except the jump to a sequel to be better in all aspects, and that's tough to do on any sort of budget, even a huge one that Blizzard developers seem to get.

Though I'm really not sure what you're looking at, everything I've seen have looked great. Unless your expecting Diablo III, which will make them just a fraction of the money that WoW will give them to be given just as much attention. From where I'm sitting, it looks like a worthy sequel, and should be just as great as the jump from D1 to D2 was for me.

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

Looks pretty cool. We just need a release date. Now back to lurk mode

True that WoW makes all the money d3 will in one month. What I am looking at is the concept. When you look at their concept art images, there it is still very badass, grotesque, threatening monsters and feline postures on the heroes. Then transformed into the game there is not much left. Like the heavy and dark atmosphere that was lost from d1 to d2. There was some genius stuff in d1, Matt Uelmens trist-track and whatnot, the "Halls of the Blind"-poem... and every enemy you killed felt like something. I would like to see more of that kind of stuff.

I am pretty pleased with the general layout of the world, the mecanics and so on but I mean... aint there fans working at blizz aswell that share these feelings? I know I am not alone on these thoughts, basically just quoted much of what i wrote just now out of memory edit: out of memory from other forums i've lurked.

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

I'm just dissapointed that we've waited a decade for new classes in order to get....
Re-skinned Sorc
Re-skinned Pally
Re-skinned 'zon
Re-skinned Necro
not even reskinned Barb

The classes were my favorite thing about D2, and were mostly new archetypes after D1. And now we get....you know, basically more of the same. There are TONS of different archetypes out there. Maybe try, you know, using them. Or, failing that, at least give me my lycanthropic class back before the expansion you bastards!

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

Hey, you who are moaning about the game design: Why don't you do it on blizzard's net site. We here in SPF cannot do squat on the development of D3.

I'm looking forward to the game. Probably will buy it when it's out even though I'm quite sure I don't have a computer that can run it then. First I've got to get a job, then I have to pay my debts and then I might buy me a new computer.

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

I know this is the the wrong place to post this, but i know many of us are anticipating the release of D3 and will eventually transfer over once it is released.

Today, Blizzard announced the 5th and final character of Diablo 3. The Demon Hunter. A mix of an Assassin and Amazon, which was expected.

What is the SPFs opinions?

For me, i love the idea and am looking very much forward to playing her!

PS. Mods please don't move this thread, i want SPF member views only .

tavaritz: "Hey, you who are moaning about the game design: Why don't you do it on blizzard's net site. We here in SPF cannot do squat on the development of D3."

SPF requests, SPF opinions and SPF opinions, it just works :alright:

Edit: Btw nice commie sign there, Finnish brother :P Hyvää juttuua!

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

There may be some dissension among our own ranks, but personally I'm very excited. I've been hyped by every major news story, from the initial trailer announcing the game was in development, all the character classes (except maybe the witch doctor, but that was at the same time as my beloved barbarian), skill runes which modify the skills themselves, that traits now take the place of str/dex/vit/ene, charms having their own stash... with the exception that deaths are handled with checkpoints, I really like where they're headed.

And I bought this computer specifically FOR DIII at the start of this year, so you can pretty much tell how excited I am for all the news. I don't think the game will be out 'til 2012 at best, but I'll be salivating in anticipation the entire wait.

The atmosphere: it's too early to say anything, I think. They've shown only a handful of areas, and it's likely that they're all early-ish in the game. Yeah, the deserts and outdoor areas they showed in the very first gameplay video were bright and sunny... but a lot of the dungeons have been dark, and the Tristram video when the wizard was announced was spooky as all get out. I don't think the game will be scary like some might hope... but thematically, I think there's a lot we haven't yet seen that will bring back some of that dark, gothic theme people want and expect.

As for the demon hunter, I likes it. I love playing bowazons, and this new class looks like it'll be even more fun and involved so far. What I like the least is that she seems to be a rehash of Van Helsing, but... I think the [rather expected] combination of a bowazon with a trapper compliments the two builds quite well. I have a feeling this will be my first character fresh out of the box!

Barbarian may not have much crowd control besides seismic stomp, but he's got more skills that deal damage to mobs than the D2 version. If you can kill more enemies at once, crowd control may not be an issue. I think this character can possibly change some people's minds on how good a front line fighter can be.

Witch doctor is the most unconventional in terms of the world and lore, but I like that they went outside tradition here. In one way the character feels like it's a rehash of a necro... but in my mind it looks and will play very differently. Necros don't have giant toads that eat your enemies! It's the one class that I'm sure I won't play first, but I'm interested in seeing how his skills all work together.

Wizard... okay, this seems like it's nearly the same as a sorceress. The big two skills of Meteor and Blizzard are back. I've never played D&D, but magic missile always sounded like a joke of a skill to me. BUT. I've always loved sorceresses, and the new magic-based melee skill makes it seem like this character can mix things up in the fray as well as from the back ranks. This could be a very fun class.

And the monk. I'm actually unsure about this one. At first it made me think of tournament fighters like Dead or Alive, Street Fighter II, Bloody Roar, etc. Not games where you need to memorize complicated controls to succeed, but that it gives you the freedom to mount an attack however you want. What I fear is that either the number of ways you can combine skill strikes will make things feel really loose, that things can get too complicated trying to link together random skills depending on the situation, OR that a player will get used to spamming the same combo practically every time. None of that sounds all that fun. I like that they changed up the format instead of left-clicking Zeal from start to finish... but it's got to be polished and intuitive. I always found martial arts/phoenix strike assassins to be too complicated for my taste, and the monk seems to have brought that concept to a whole new level.

I just gotta ask... why do people see the monk as a toned-down pally? I'd put them on par with one another, but that's just me...

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

Lovely! I was expecting something along these lines for a long time. Thanks for posting Morathi

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

What I like the least is that she seems to be a rehash of Van Helsing,

Hey, any time someone wants to draw inspiration for a video game character from Kate Beckinsale in a skin-tight leather bodysuit, well, that's fine by me. :whistling:

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

So basically all the classes are very similar to what D2 had, with certain skills slightly redistributed? That sort of news is the kind of thing that gets me really excited, it's good to know that if I buy D3 I'll be able to use the same characters I have done for the last 10 years. I'll have to make sure I pre-order a copy right away, as I can barely contain myself at the thought of being able to play D3.

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

I am disappointed. Not with the Demon Hunter herself (I feel both joy and relief that a bow user is present), but with the way Diablo III is handling classes as a whole.

First off, Blizzard dropped the ball with the order of the class reveals - leaving the Demon Hunter for least, we all knew it would be the only Diablo class that wasn't covered yet - a ranged physical, with bows/crossbows. Anything different would be a huge mass disappointment, given the impressive popularity Rogues and Amazons had in the previous games.

If there's a company doing class reveals well, that company is ArenaNet with their genius Guild Wars 2. First they revealed the returning classes, leaving the modified/renamed and totally new classes for last.

Second, I am disappointed with the number of classes (low) and that nothing was truly groundbreaking or innovative.

Comparing Diablo I to Diablo II, we had a great deal of innovation. One could argue that Barbarian + Paladin were basically both a Warrior, Sorceress + Necromancer could be condensed into Sorceror, and that the Amazon was an improved Rogue with some not-so-awesome melee abilities thrown in. Anyway, it was still vastly different and allowed for good diversity.

Ten years later Diablo III fails to bring truly diverse classes compared to the prequels...

Barbarian speaks for itself.
Sorceress = Wizard.
Necromancer = Witch Doctor (different, but with the same "dark feel/taste"). Here I'd honestly prefer see Necromancers returning...
Paladin = Monk (also sure different, but still a melee-not-Warrior class).
Demon Hunter = Amazon (with Assassin abilities, which I dislike, but still relieved I actually have a character to use a bow with).

I kinda don't dig the Demon Hunter body design either. I was expecting more "inspired" armor, and by that I don't mean female body exposition at all. Just a better design, better pose.

I'm sorry, I guess I have been just spoiled by Guild Wars' and Guild Wars 2's superb quality standards. :coffee:

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

It was expected though. They wanted to make the 5 starting characters of D3 be a blend of the 7 characters in D2.

Remember, D3 have already announced they will be releasing 2 expansion packs, each containing 2 new characters. So it makes sense they wanted to get the D2 character classes out of the way with the 5 classes in D3.

When you say innovative. Is that related to the classes themselves, or D3 as a whole?

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

This is very similar to a character I have in the book I'm writing ... scarily similar - so much so that now I'm loathe to continue with her for fear that I'll be influenced by the demon hunter trailer!

My character was inspired by both the Assassin and Amazon from D2 to become an expert at ranged combat, which involved a one handed crossbow (with fire arrows no less) and throwing knives/throwing stars.

Great minds think alike but now I'm thinking of scrapping her - *tear* since she was one of my favourite characters!

EDIT: ok I've just seen part of the trailer and she even has a hood like my character. This means that I really like this new class - sucks for my book though.

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

Why do people compare the monk to the paladin? I personally see him as the assassin 2.0

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

There was never anything diverse about the class list in any of the Diablo's, What matters is the skill set and if the skills really give a unique feel, not the name or how close they resemble something else, because, lets face it, Anything they could have tried would resemble something else. I hear that they are giving each class a system to use there skills, so that's something.

Without the Druid and the Assassin(Expansion), the Diablo 2 class list is pretty uninspired.

That can only mean one thing: They stole your manuscript!!! :omg:

I agree with Morathi - it would make sense for Blizzard to start with characters that are known to the wide public to draw back all those former fans. That way more people will probably buy the expansions ("Wow! A new sort of character I never played before!!!") than the other way round ("Wow! A new expansion! What's the new characters?!!? Oh, Barbarian...well...")

I personally like the idea of a shape shifting kind of character, who can transform themselves in different monsters you encounter and use their skills.

Btw, anyone noticed in the Demon Hunter video that it seems they used monster sounds from D1? Some sounds in the Molten Arrow video totally remind me of D1...

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

Huh. No shape-shifting skills.

I guess Liquid_Evil won't be buying D3, after all. :D

Re: 5th Diablo 3 class finally revealed!!!!

Did anyone really expect anything groundbreaking to the RPG genre? I'm sure between us weve played enough RPGS (DnD, Diablo, Tales, FFwhatever, MMO) That weve seen pretty much everything that would be reasonable to offer.

As it is we have 5 classes (some more interesting than others IMO) that look like they should all play differently from each other (important) and leave room within themselves to specialise (just as important).

Also i dont get the comparison of monk/pally, he strikes me more of an assassin with chained moves/finishers.
