23 Runeword Search Thread

We had someone, no one knows who since Blizzard seems not to be forthcoming with information, delete all the mules on our first account - most of which had full characters with runes, socketed items and tradable gear (like full Heaven's Brethren) - and probably ransacked it in the process. That person could currently be lurking in our midst but we'd never know it. Anyway, you'll have to whisper one of us now when you want to donate or for other assistance.

Pretty sure I posted this already, but since no one has acted on it or responded to it at all, I'll say it again. I've opened a general storage purpose account entitled "RuSTMules" with the same password as the other communal east mule account. My intention was to store all of the random unique/rare/set items people find but decide not to keep. Any time someone needs a mid level rune or two, or a new piece of decent equipment, they should feel free to raid the account. The non-socketed-item mule on the other account filled up rather quickly, so I figured we might want more space, not to mention this will leave more room for socketables. I'll keep the account refreshed unless I need to leave town or something, in which case I'll give you guys advanced warnings. I do have it registered in case of password theft, but I don't think anyone will be putting anything terribly valuable on it, so I don't think this will be too much of an issue.

sokar, you under estimate the botters and dupers on Us West. 5-6 ist for zod meh, that too expensive, i believe the current going price for zod is 2.33 ists (mihgt be wroung) evil-spork should no, if you read please post spork. 2.33 usually means 3 ists.

its acutally 2.33-2.66 ist depending on how fast you want it. 2.66 will get it for you about after 2-4 hrs of searching for trade. 3 ist would be almost immediate. (um=1/3 ist on west) i should know, i made the pc thread.

HOLY CRAP!!

I have been looking at high end runes from the Asia realm perspective, ie to buy a single zod rune will take months of saving and thats why the high runewords are so difficult to test. There has been enough procrastination. In the time you guys have been waiting for the Classic rushers to be strong enough dozens of Zod-level combinations could have been tested via LoD rushes. Even if you can only manage one such rush per week, even fortnight, this is still a much better method than cows. Whilst it is true you can theoretically get any rune in a full party cow game you are still going to get 300 000 els for a single Zod (or whatever the figure is). One LoD rush per week is a guaranteed 14 runes between Thul(?) and Gul. If no one is yet strong enough to rush a full party to Hell Act IV then Baalrun together (where you can also get any rune, so it isn't wasted time) until someone is. As mentioned before there are 3 very good reasons to gather Um+ runes - trade for lower, direct testing and trade for higher runes for testing. Wow, I really thought I was being optimistic the price I metioned for a Zod. 3 Ist = Zod?? That is just plain insane. These high tests are definately (at least on West) doable, maybe not with the frequency that <Um is being done but frequent enough that kind souls like Wathombe do not need to waste RW cash on such things. 3 Ist = Zod?? OMFG...

*Shakes head, mumbling* 3 Ist for a Zod...

WTF?? Sorry for double post but this sentence keeps being cut off for some reason. No matter what I do it just doesn't display.

Neargh

My employer has found it necessary to put a filter on our internet accessibilty... can anyone suggest any good sites I can proxy from or some way of being able to access this forum since I can't directly go to it? (I cannot even access webmail)....

Sheesh, don't employers trust their employees?

First, I'd like to respond to all the 'donations' that have been coming my way. Except for Be-Were (who is hardcore), I have several people on USEast softcore ladder telling me their accountnames and passwords. I don't know how this makes other people feel, but I am extremely uncomfortable about this. I've been very secure about my own information and, although I'm very trustworthy, it's people like me that get screwed even when doing nothing wrong - something always does and I get blamed. Don't ask me what could go wrong, it does. I'm the type that secrets could be told in strictest of confidence, but at the same time I'm not the type who likes being told secrets of most types, if you can understand that. I'm not getting to go into a whole psychological discussion about my childhood here, I'm just saying if you have runes to donate, whisper me and I'll make a game. If you have something else, I'll consider holding on to it given it's nearly impossible to trade these days without someone continuously reminding me that anything I trade for I should consider duped (again, the whole 'you don't rob for a buck, you rob a bank' theory comes into play here, but some people seem to think everything is hacked in some way, shape or form unless you find it). This is the biggest reason, outside of Blizzard totally screwing over the trade channels, that I simply don't trade except in these forums, and then I've rarely gotten a response. Everyone wants godly, an-item-like-this-only-drops-once-every-three-months items, which they appear to be getting once every three hours thanks to bots.

I just don't like it when someone whispers 'Hey, I'm quitting D2 so here's my password!' You figure it's someone who jacked someone else's account, gained someone else's trust or otherwise guessed someone else's password and, after looting it themselves, changes the pass and makes it public. I realize that isn't what's going on here but seeing as Blizzard has done such a piss-poor job I've been conditioned this way. I'm sorry if people have been angered by my reluctance.

{rant}

Which brings us to Sokar's response about WoW. I can't write the five-page article I was going to about the entire Blizzard/Battle.net free-versus-pay-to-play thing without someone telling me they'd print it, I'd get paid or that anyone would care. Suffice it to say I had no idea WoW was PtP and that now eliminates any chance of me playing even if the game were given to me as a gift. I will not give Blizzard any more money after the piss-poor [becoming a common phrase here] job they've done with other games. When you begin releasing other titles without fixing the ones already on the market then you're basically telling your previous customers to go to hell. Don't tell me 'B.net is free, you have no right to complain'. I have a free ***-kicking to give you and when I'm done I better not hear you complain either. Free != good, and now they've taken something that is not good and started charging for it.

I'm assuming, Sokar, that WoW is going to be played on B.ent? That's a laugh. When NetZero offered free internet they knew it wouldn't be able to stay that way, that costs would climb, but they also knew if they did a decent job they'd also be able to keep most of their customer base. Most of those who left did so simply because the main reason they got on was because it was free, either because they couldn't afford any other alternative (and still couldn't) or needed a back-up ISP. Most who stayed did so because they received decent service. Can Blizzard say that about Bent? No.

To infer Blizzard is trying to move everyone they screwed over in D2 to a PtP system that isn't even working right now shows they're interested more in bucks than reputable service. I no longer have a bank account, thanks to this wonderful economy our government says we have, and I'm not giving another dime to a company that has ignored problem after problem with their own system. Unbend Bent then ask for forgiveness from those whose fun they've ruined and they might get some of their customers back... I just won't be one of them.

Failed:

ELD+EL=antlers
TIR+NEF=antlers
ELD+TIR=totemic mask
NEF+EL=gargoyle head
NEF+ITH=unraveller head

This idea that any runeword that works in a druid/barb helm would work in a regular helm or vice versa needs to be substantiated to me. We already have examples of class-specific--only runewords as well as runewords specifically prohibited from working in class-specific items. It doesn't bother be to fully test necro/pally shields, barb/druid helms as well as circlets, but what about amazon spears/bows? Those aren't listed and most of the previous tests don't say whether 'zon-spec items were used. What's the hard word?

I think you came up, albeit ever so slightly, on that trade jones (assuming ur on West). Ax2grind - I know exactly where you're coming from. Cheetah asked me, a couple of weeks back, if i wanted the password to the West communal acct. and I declined, telling him that the least amount of people knew the better. The next day, unknowing of the previous conversation, Krucker13 told me the password. I accepted the responsibility of the knowledge and then I thought of the only solution towards my own accountability. I used socketables and runes from the mules, posted the results, then I left the items on the mules for other-party verifications. This way I could assure myself of having a witness of the test in case someone accused me of pilfering. I like the guys I play with on West and would never try to jeopardize the ease and comfort of our interactions.

ok folks, this is just a non-functional prototype screen (not hooked up to a database or anything), but give it a quick look and let me know what you think. Right now, this is just an example for a single item type's 2os grid.

It looks/works best in IE 5.5 or higher (gives you nice rune name highlighting to lessen the chances of clicking in the wrong box), but is also functional in Firefox. I haven't tried Opera, Konquerer, Netscape, Mozilla, or older IE browsers.

Everyone, but most especially Wathombe - Please let me know if you think it's worth using an interface like this to store the tested combinations in a database.

EDIT - HOLY COW Smashin, thats some great testing! Maybe we will catch up to Andy after all...

EDIT AGAIN - Unfortunately, it looks like you re-tested Shael + Ral and Dol + Lum... whereas Ral + Shael and Lum + Dol still have yet to be tested.

Morning, all.

Updated: wathombe's runeword spreadsheet

smashin: Excellent, excellent job! Thank you! And such neat and ordered results to, which always make me happy. Logged and posted!

All:Our router just got replaced and I've been in meetings this morning, so no time for more thorough responses. Will respond in more detail to Sokar, Ax, and Cherokee later.
