Also, I already have my own acronym spreadsheet online, perhaps you should check it (although I only include words which suggest a single item type).

Most two-socket items can be bought in notmal difficulty (class-specific other than claws excluded). Once you've bought one piece, reselling a gemmed item will yield more profit than what you spent to originally buy it so even a level one can do that (you only need the initial investment).
Common locations (correct me in case I'm wrong) :
-almost anything used as weapon (ie staves are weapons, but never used as such), but also body armors, shields, claws and headgear : Charsi and Gheed in act one ; Fara, Elzix and Drognan in act two.
-staves, scepters : Akara in act one, Drognan in act two.
-wands : Drognan in act two.
-hammers : I think Hratli in act three can have socketed War Hammers and Mauls, but I'm not sure. I doubt Fara can have any, but it might be worth checking.
