Bone_Wrap has defeated Mephisto and collected his Endlesshail unique double bow. I think that will be in his offhand. That will give him something to do when he is up against magic immune monsters. The merc was changed to an Iron Wolf with cold spells. It makes revive a bit more challenging, but it is still viable. Other than endlesshail, no equipment improvements came in Act 3.

The boss was behind one of his minions and Bone_Wrap started to attack with bone spear. He should have waited for the merc and the golem to catch up. On the way I did find a rather nice circlet with +1 traps and teleport charges built in, among other mods. I'm debating whether to personalize it, socket it, and put my Um in there, or personalize it, socket one of my ethereal weapons, and make a crescent moon out of the Um and a shael if I can ever find one. That -35% enemy lightning resistance would make the LS even that much better, but not sure if that would be a game breaker or not. I'll likely hold off making that decision until after all the cows are dead (unless Baal gets me one of these times. His greatest asset against me now are his tentacles, they get me but good). I also found a crazy amulet with +20 res all, +50 life and +strength, and since I'll have a helm with teleport, I can do those pesky hell ancients with minimal effort. I just wonder how expensive it'll be to repair when I use it... And I do realize I am a long way from that point, and this is my first official conqueror ever, but I am feeling good and wow does CoS kick butt. Gloams and burning souls are helpless against me.

One final correction from an earlier post- I have an insight halberd on my merc, not a bardiche. It does good damage here in NM but I think I'll be slowed down a bit once I hit the moor in hell difficulty.

IIRC, crescent moon -35% doesn't apply to traps, because they're counted as minions, and not part of the character itself.

All of the skill restrictions are due to what skills you are allowed to develop and use on your skill trees. The justification for these restrictions is that you are an afterlife character and, as such, you have certain limitations on what you can learn and apply. However, if you are fortunate enough to find "usable" equipment with CTC or with skill charges, then you can use them. Make sure that item is usable by your Toxic Wight though. It still must be ethereal, have one of your keywords in its title, be an act boss reward, or be one of the Anya gifts or personalization items.

Thanks for the clarification. I will go out on a limb and personalize that rare circlet with the +traps, teleport, LR, life and damage reduction. Maybe I'll also socket it and throw that Um in there, though I'd hate to throw an Um away on a circlet with otherwise so so mods. I'd also hate to kill off my highest-ever HC character because I didn't want to spend the wealth she herself accumulated. Maybe I'll spend some gold gambling circlets first, just in case another better helm comes along.

Baal dropped the Isenhart's Horns helm the first time I got him last night. I think I have the whole set now, which is just crazy. The Cow king dropped angelic amulet and a couple of decent rares which I sold. And as soon as I finish my business with Anya I'll be headed off to the wondrous land of hell. I really like death sentry, that thing rocked the cows in huge fashion (I was /P1 so as hopefully to finish at less than level 81 by the end of the game).

edit: I did get the Occulus from a fallen on Baal's first minion wave. That'll come in handy if I ever make a HC blizzard sorceress for meph runs.

Light_Wight continued the struggle last night, gaining access to Deckard Cain's wisdom (yeah right) and stopping for a break after finding the WP in the Dark Wood. I am now pumping fade, and by switching to a +2 shadow skills amulet before casting fade, I can actually get my Light Resist up into the high 60s, and max it if I switch out my current belt for another I found, which I probably won't do right away. I did personalize the helm, socket it, and place the Um in it, so I spent all of my happy rewards on one single item. Sure hope I don't find a better one, but I think I won't, it is now too good to drop.

The scary part about this character right now is that my confidence is so high. One of the areas I was in last night (must have been cold plains?) was 100% lightning immune. All monster types, every single beastie. Since I am on P1, my merc did pretty well getting a corpse out of the skeletons that were everywhere. And then death sentry commenced the arse whooping. It was pretty crazy. Down in the underground passage, the lightning-ball shooters were nullified with CoS and brought down by explosions from the DS after LS pulverized the carvers. It was a beautiful sight. So now that my resists are approaching maximum (even with admittedly less-than-stellar gear, though the awesome amulet (+17 str, +20 res all, damaged reduced by 3, +57 life) and great helm help tremendously, and with twitchthroe my blocking is constantly maintained at 75%, I am quite happy with it so far. By the end of the game if all goes well I should have fade up in the teens for some good PDR on top of all that as well. If none of that works I can crowd control with Mind Blast and "make" some more friends for a few moments to help out. This is truly an overpowered build that I might try to win the game naked some day. I can't imagine how great this would be if I could use the shadow master.

I'm going to have to start using a lot of judicious killing on the way or else I won't get in under Kool's 81. I will be using CoS a lot and of course P1; I think I'll kill boss packs only from here on out, or things blocking my path, or dangerous archers. Anyway, an ethereal suwayyah dropped in the catacombs level 4, near where Andy fell, so I figured that would be a great imbue, but sadly all three spells it had on it are useless to me, so the lame +1 traps weapon named Viper something stayed on... She is still killing incredibly fast though, I'm really shocked. And, she found a higher damage 4 os weapon (stygian pike) so I just need to get another Sol to make a better insight for enemies with LI and more hit points.

Luckily, he received his reward on the first run, The unique Scull Cap (Tarnhelm). Not bad, it has +46% magic find, +79% gold, and +1 to all skills. [This is only the third one of these that I have found!]

Light_Wight made a concerted effort this weekend but I am feeling she may fall a bit too short due to things she can't control. She is doing all of this hell at P1 to minimize experience, but act II saw her level up one time because she had to run Duriel 4 times to get Vidala's Barb (she has found three of those in this tournament now). The helm with teleport charges is INCREDIBLE and has saved her butt two times and made the game much faster in other circumstances (like the physical immune, lightning immune beetle in the maggot lair - bypassed) in the usual sorceress way. It costs her about 3,000 gold to use it one time, not too shabby. I expected more anyway.

Act III has been far harder, and she was forced to do much killing in the jungles of Kurast, because she didn't want to have flayers all over the place. She found all the pieces of Khalim's will and pretty much bypassed all monsters in Kurast areas. The council was bypassed for now because they were smashing her merc in seconds and she can't afford that for too long. The bummer is that Light_Wight will have to complete that quest to even have hope of staying in this tournament due to the 5 points she'd lose by not completing it. She found the Durance 2 WP and went down to face Mephisto using the moat trick, which didn't work out so well because hydras popped up everywhere and then the blood lords from the very far back of the area popped up. Well, many LS later Mephisto went down but didn't drop anything except for a single rare and a blue. ARGH! My experience is creeping up and she is now level 77 and some change. I figure I'll get an entire level from the ancients alone, which leaves two levels to go with two plus acts left. I figure I'll be able to bypass everything except for Izual (gotta get those points into fade) until the river of flame, and then it is only about 1/2 level clearing the chaos sanctuary, which I will do out of respect for big D. But I get ahead of myself. It is all moot unless I can kill the council and again Mephisto without dying first. It was pretty comical seeing me flee from stygian dolls through the durance WAY ahead of my friends, alone and unafraid with about 300 defense in hell. Too fun!

My fourth attempt at the afterlife is with the Martyred Saint, Saint_Xylo. He has survived the wilds in Kurast and has just arrived at Lower Kurast. He was thrilled with his Tarnhelm that he received from Duriel, but look what he found while rummaging through a few jars in the Flayer Dungeon:

Saint_Xylo has killed Mephisto (three times) and moved on to the Pandamonium Fortress. His reward was an Isenhart's Horns full Helm. That is quite useless considering that his Duriel reward was Tarnhelm and he found a better rare ethereal helm than either of them. Nonetheless, the Isenhart's horns could come in handy. He currently has the Isenhart's Lightbrand saved in ATMA and if another item is found (Case or Parry), the Act 3 cold merc might be better off using that set than what he currently has (Blood Crescent, Tarnhelm, Stormguild and a rare plate mail).

Well, there is a long way to go before this character should die. He is not all that strong, but Fist of the Heavens is just beginning to be developed. I have hopes that it will be powerful enough to allow him to survive NM. I intend to convert him from a melee character to a range character at that point. Probably around Act 5 when the Act 5 barbarian merc is available.
