EDIT: I don't want to bash on the d2.net site, but what happened to it after all these years? It used to possess a wealth of information, all on a nice navigation panel. EDIT 2: "Blizzard was planning on recipe scrolls in the Expansion. These were going to be dropped very rarely by monsters, and they would have Rune Words and new Horadric Cube recipes on them."

NOO WHY BLIZZ! I was gonna do this in one of my mods years back. I never understood why blizzard didn't add a crafting/recipe book with scrolls and such. I guess they gave up on the game once they realized how many hackers there were.

Hey guys, thanks for the tips earlier, I got my sorc act 2 NM at the moment, level 34. Still haven't pulled a mpk ring but fortunately I have a ton of juvies :D. Is there a point where you guys like to stop and improve your items or do you generally just go and power through? I was fortunate to pull a Venom's Ward prior to taking on NM Andy so she was a breeze, if the rest of the Act bosses are as easy I feel like I should be in Hell by the weekends end baring any unfortunate events.
 
NM LK might be a good idea! You can rack a skullder's which is about as powerful of an armor as you can get until hell LK when you'd want to get either arkaine's (lvl 85 to use...) or tal's armor.

The 25 MDR, life bonus, +skill and huge MF are all great. MDR is especially powerful in 1.07

You may also want to rack a valkyrie wing for 30% frw/fcr/ias/fhr (yes, 30 of each)
 
Haven't found a Russet armor but I did find a Mesh armor rack right by the WP. How can I figure out if Shaft can drop from NM LK?
 
I was hoping I could put it on my merc for survival, I'm playing HC and it goes a lot smoother when he's alive. Unless the stats on it aren't what they are in later versions :eek:

EDIT: Though I guess I'll need MF on my barb to hit those high breakpoints. Thanks for making me think!

The stats are slightly weaker but the 30%DR is still there. As Yann said, don't waste time racking it.

EDIT: bosses can't drop it either. Council is probably the best bet if you really want one.

Mercs can tank much less than in later versions (LL doesn't work!). Shaftstop isn't bad, but not worth the effort imho. I'd rather try some anya shopping for a magical armor (which can get 4 sockets from larzuk) with a good pre- and suffix. Ultimately I'd like a gladiator's bane (ethereal if possible - not likely) for my merc, right now he's still wearing this (and has been wearing it for 20+ levels).

Indeed merc's are very fragile. Act 5 merc with Gbane, Shako, and Grandfather is probably the tankiest you can get.

As a side note, you don't need 556 mf to get uniques. But that's optimal. Uniques start dropping around the 440 mark I've noticed. You can hit that with Topaz armor/helm on both you and merc, with some cheap magical MF gear.
 
If playing HC I would personally absolutely go for skullder's since you can gert it so early. If you're using a barb for BO, I suppose you could get away without out while questing past Diablo and Baal and could probably rush your way to hell LK to open up better options... mdr goes a LONG way towards survival :p
(string of ears is another option since not many other belts are useful at all, and it gives 15% Dr and 15 mdr)

Has this been verified? It used to be a consensus that bosses couldn't drop past their Normal Treasury Classes?

Btw does gladiator's bane have a level req of 85 in 1.07 like in 1.09+?

I think so. At least my 1.07 GB is (although it is forwarded, but that shouldn't affect it..)
 
Oh, didn't know that - it's not indestructible in 1.09+. Then again there are other uniques that are indestructible in 1.07, but not in 1.09+, so probably not surprising.
 
All unique items have the same lvl/qlvl as in newer patches except The Cranium Basher (qlvl 91). Edit (and Infernostride)

EDIT: ok ignore what I just said. I just performed a test to see to be sure. Bosses ONLY drop for the normal TC 100% of the time. ATMA drop calc is incorrect. Bosses have three picks, one for the difficulty and 2 for normal. But they always choose the last pick (normal). Sigh......

Still looking for that Russet rack, the Mesh just happened to be 1 TP away from the WP and it was extremely convenient haha. And I've been trying to look at the shops but it seems that the vendors are still selling normal quality items despite the fact I'm in NM. Definitely have an eye out to replace his blue bastard sword / isenharts armor and duskdeep helm.
 
Yes! Ok speaking of bugs in the TC, I found out why TC33 is so common! The mystery of why the TC gets "halved"

What this means is, you have a HUGE chance of dropping to the same class of the previous difficulty, instead of the previous class of the same difficulty (ACT 5(H) EQUIP B). This then has a huge chance of dropping to the normal difficulty. Making TC33-39 the most common TC in hell. All becuase of a typo in the ratios.
