Yet another "legit" exploit discovered - cheesy gold earning

I gotcha beat with a grinding ancient sword that gets 23k profit.

Hey Suggestive,

Currently I'm at 12k¨Profit with a "Grinding Halberd", is ur's a plain "Grinding Ancient Sword" or does it have a suffix ?

If urs does have a suffix, do the 2nd mods have any effect on the selling price, or just the itemtype then ?

If itemtype, I wonder what item gives the best profit ...
If Both, I wonder what the best Item + suffix there is for profit ...
If it's allready discussed here, just tell me so and I'll start reading :p

Greetz,

Tried grinding warsword of firebolts and grinding short war bow.. using sell button, neither works. Now a fools giant axe..it doesnt work either. All were about 5-6k to purchase, well under the 20k; maybe too far under? Fools flamberge..no luck. Grinding pike .. no good either.

Er...um..."equip it"..oops.. and I don't even drink!

Got it now, my first weap only netted about 2k. Funny but BORING as can be.

Lol' I buy Grinding Gothic Sword for 14K, sell for 35K, net profit 21+k. Now if only I can make this work at my job!.

just a few quick questions.
Whats the best to gamble my well earned gold away? :d
rings,ammys or conets?

also wuts the best act to buy the item at its cheapest but will still sell for 35k?

Amulets are best then coronets, in my opinion, rings are a distant third.

Rare coronets, magical hydra skulls, magical high def gloves/boots/belts, high def plates, belts, ammulets, rings (last) etc etc

Is this a late April Fool's joke? I just spent 200,000 gold buying weapons with the fool's and grinding suffix, I followed the first posts instructions to a T, and I still ended up losing gold rather than making it. All weapons under 20,000 gold, I equipped them, I sold them by using the button, and still no go. I also tried different methods of buying the item first (buy button, right clicking on item, left clicking on item) to no avail. Anyone with any useful info out there for me?

It's quite a coincedence that it only works with an item called Fool's :) (I have no idea what grinding means btw)

NVM, I just found out it works. I just had to have both hands empty on my pally. I was equipping the item with my shield on. Happy gambling!!!

Grinding mod adds to dmg based on character level (0.75-74.25 To Maximum Damage), high dmg weapons sell for more than low damage weapons. When you buy the grinding weapon it has low damage, but when you sell it while it is in your hand it has huge damage if you are level 80+

Fool's
mod adds dmg per level at a lower amount (0.5-49.5 To Maximum Damage) than Grinding but it also adds to AR so it makse up for the lower dmg.

A Fool's and Grinding Naga both sell for 35,000 after level 80. The Grinding (9,876g) however is about 500 gold cheaper than the Fool's (10,363g) to buy back so the Grinding is the preferd choice with me. I have the Grinding in my Pali's stash for repairs and the Fool's in my Zon's stash also for repairs and the merc resurrect.

Grinding is a term used in MMORPG meaning to do the same actions over and over again to gain an objective. For instance in City of Heros you have to go out and fight (i.e. "grind") your way through mobs of baddies to lvl your char. Baal running is Diablo's way of grinding through the game to lvl.

Kinda of ironic, dont'cha think?

BTW - I have a Grinding Ancient Sword netting me just over 21K:clap:

Well ..very funny.. I have a grinding lance the nets 23,154 gold. I was getting just over 21k in act 5 so I took it to act one, Hell of course, and that's how I got the additional gold.

It is fun to go to pk games and drop gold everywhere. One player offered me a chaos claw if I generated 1 Mil gold but, he had figured out what I was doing and just wanted to "buy" my lance from the NPC.

And that is why it's unfair - because gambling lets you pick the type of item "dropped". The chance may be smaller, but you're guaranteed a ring every single time, and you can do it without limit.

See there is no way anyone can say that this is unfair, because EVERYONE has the same oppertunity here. Anyone can find a grinding weapon at a vender and do this, NO ONE has ANY unfair advantage over anyone else.

There are already limitless ways to gain gold in this game, and this is just another. some people choose to endlessly kill meph, I choose to endlessly sell my grinding maul and gamble rings .. and like my previous post said .. I just gambled a dwarf star ..

and I'm going to keep gambleing until I have my 2 wisp projectors to finish off my pvp sin, because I can't find anyone to trade them. it may take me a long while, but eventually I will get them, because as you've said before, by gambeling I'm choosing every drop I have to be a ring, but there is nothing new here, people have been selling items to get gambeling gold for years..

If I remember correctly (but I am not sure),there is 1 chance in a thousand to gamble a unique;so,for insance,it would take 1000 ammies to gamble,to have an average chance to get one unique;as the price of an ammy is 63 000,then you need 63,000,000 gold to have an average chance to gamble a unique;let's say it takes about 15 minutes to gather 3000 k and gamble it;then you would need 315 minutes,or like +5 hours to get this unique ring :cheesy: ;I am not sure if it worth gambling during 5-6 hours just to get one unique ammy, and knowing I am not even sure to get it as these 5-6 hours only get you an AVERAGE chance to obtain it;it could take much longer than 6 hours;I would rather take my chance on pindleskin runs to get a highlords or a grandfather :drink:

At first, I was planning to not take part in this thread again. I feel awkward that the discussion of cheats is not allowed on this legit forum, while this seems to be no problem at all. But since some people were starting to call me a legit purist *** and what more, over a stupid thing like this, I thought "What the heck" and left it at peace.

But anyway, while I saw you using valid arguments on other occasions, squigipapa, I do want to point out a few flaws in these ones.

You say that this "trick" provides no unfair advantage to anyone, because everyone is able to do it. I am deeply sorry, but I fail to see the sense in that. Maphack is available to everyone with an internet connection, and so is Pindlebot, and so is Mephbot. Duping is available to anyone if they learn how to do it. Just the fact that it is available to everyone might not make it an unfair advantage, but it doesn't make it right either. The argument you just put forward here, is the argument most cheaters use to justify their actions (and now I am talking about real cheats, like Maphack etc.). Better phrasing would be: it doesn't provide an unfair advantage over anyone who is willing to use this.

According to you, there are already limitless ways to gain gold, and that this is just another one. Wrong. This is not "just another one". This is an unfair, cheesy way of gaining gold, and there surely is a difference. I don't know if I am making myself perfectly clear here, so I'll try to explain it better with an example: Mephbot. There are limitless ways to find good items, and that is running Mephisto over and over again until you are happy with what you find. Mephbot is a way to do that quicker, and is therefore unfair towards the players who want to play legit. I think everyone here (or almost everyone, at least, I hope so) is against the use of Mephbot. But looking at this point of view ("It is just another way of getting gold faster"), how is this method any different from using Mephbot ("It is just a way of getting items faster")?

Before I get the flamewagon poured all over me again: I am not saying that this is as bad as Mephbot. Surely I, even as a legit purist ***, understand the difference between a mere bug exploit and a real 3d party program. So please don't get me wrong. I am only comparing the two by using the argument that it is "just another way of getting at things". That is what I was wondering, so no hard feelings, I hope.
