Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

I wonder what sort of rule that would be? One thing I've been wondering about is a rule that would make lynches compulsory. No more required number to lynch, the person with the most votes would die at lynch. That might get people to be more active, since every opinion and every vote would count.

Another idea I've had came from a game I'm currently playing on mafiascum.net: Consulmaker, set in ancient Rome. The idea would be that instead of voting who to lynch, the players would vote for Consuls, who would act as judge, jury and executioner. For the first 24 hours, the players could vote anyone to be a Consul, for the latter 24 the Consuls could decide who they wanted dead, while the rest of the town would try to convince the Consuls not to execute them. That would be another way of solving the chronic no lynches, might be fun too.

idk what's been going on with our lynches, but maybe it's time zones, busy lives, but it used to not be like that. a mis-lynch didn't happen often and if it did, people were highly under suspicion. hmm... i think one of y'all had it in his game (Bad Ash's Wheel of Fortune?) with whoever had the most votes, regardless if s/he was locked or not would be lynched but there was a percent it would fail. maybe we should try that for next game? :)

i like this idea! :D i'd like to try this out, but again activity...

The recent rash of no-lynches can be fixed, but I'm not even certain of a root cause. People too busy? Game days too short? Too many cops? Too many power roles in general? Games too confusing?

Different forums have different mafia rules. I've seen places where top vote getter is lynched (ties are decided by random). I've seen places where failing to vote earns you a ban for X number of games. I've seen places where if the town doesn't decide on someone to lynch, the king/queen will (the king/queen is sometimes a role, and sometimes decided by players).

Personally, I think we could eliminate the half (rounded up) rule. It could really add to game play. If you don't want someone lynched, you can vote someone else, not just abstain. All the "What are the chances 6 people will switch votes in 3 hours" situations are much more dynamic. Mafia don't have to all pile on and expose themselves just to get someone lynched. I'm all for giving this variation a shot.

So uhm, are we taking a break?

I guess we are unless we have enough people for a smaller game.

Changing the lynch requirement to be the most votes for that day seems to be the best option to try. Our day phase length isn't really long enough to try voting for a king/consul and then making arguments for who to lynch.

I just shocked myself...

Guy is in here fixing one of the lights and theres a ton of cords hanging down, I grabbed them to get em out of the way of my head so I could walk past... My hand hurts, hair is staticy (word?) and I made 2 other lights go out. I'm awake now. That was fun.

:bored:

lol, that reminds me of when my roommate shocked himself. i forget exactly what he did, but something like there was a rainstorm going on, he shut off his computer or something at the same time lighning struck and he made the entire workplace go dark for a few seconds. he was shaky for a little while afterwards, lol. :)

when break time IS over, who has next game? just curious.

I think Ankeli was planning another shot at running his Star Wars game.

I've been thinking of a specific theme that would also encourage activity. There would be a new lynch mechanic involved, and this is how it would work:

There are no votes. Instead, everyone has one lot, and they can write any name they want on it. At the end of the day one lot is drawn at random, and whoever is on that lot will be lynched. If the lot is blank, there is a no lynch.

With this mechanic, every lot would matter. If the town wanted to be sure a specific player was lynched, they would have to unanimously agree on that player's death. This is of course extremely unlikely to happen, instead the lots will be divided between two or more people. The more lots have someone's name on them, the higher the chance of that player being lynched. Even if someone had a clear majority, adding more votes would still increase the chance of that player dying.

I said there was a theme involved too, did I not? The story would cast the players as survivors of an arctic expedition in mid-19th century Canada. Your ship has been caught and eventually crushed by the ice, most of your supplies were lost with the ship, and there are hundreds of miles back to civilization. With no other choice, you start walking, and eventually your supplies run out. You now have two choices: you must either resort to cannibalism or starve to death.

This is where the lots come in. You have to choose someone to die to feed the others. No lynching has the effect that players become weakened by hunger, and no power roles will be able to do their job. But the anti-towns will. They will be preying on their former shipmates, determined to survive, rather than become sustenance for their companions. This would mean that the town has an additional incentive to lynch all the time, while the anti-towns would welcome no lynches.

Sorry if the notion of cannibalism offends anyone, but it would be a perfect explanation for why the lynches are necessary. Someone would have to die to save the others.

I think I could run this game if Ankeli can't get enough people, or if he can't find the time to run his game. Opinions?

:rolf:

Yes, I'm sure we'd have plenty of hilarity in this vein if we played this theme. I can just imagine the Noodle - Bad Ash rivalry flaring up... I don't think they could resist having a bite of each other.
