Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

Yeah but it didn't. The three strongest town roles who could expose us so easily all were NK immune. There's no reason for me to be NK immune because there was no busdriver or vigilante. All I got was a chance a lynch would fail and it didn't. I'm sorry but that balance is way off and the only hope we had was hoping none of us would be investigated before we could get a majority.

Our plan for this last day was to go out fighting. YAWP got back to me on my Ankeli investagtion right after day started so we had no time to plan on killing bad ash. I didn't know that once Sath died we lost? Had been allowed to continue we would've Night killed Bad Ash, I could've pounded Goryani in a fight, if he failed to be recruited, then we would've had majority and the game would've been won. Probably a bad call on my part.

Why weren't we told of Nurman? I didn't even know we had recruited Nolecub sucessfully, and we didn't get information from our NKs :(

The idea was great, with fights and dual recruiting factions, but we just needed more consistency in the moderation ;)

Thanks for the game YAWP.

My thoughts on Gorny: He just hated what faction he was. Pointless, but stubborn and will not work for the opposing faction/faction he hates in WoW. I dunno.

All wrong on me I'm afraid.

I was just playing /random.

No real reason for anything I did other than for your reactions.

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

Leeroy Jenkins!

I roleblocked Gorny the first night, and there was no night kill, so I naturally suspected him.

Out of curiosity, why was I targeted for an NK?

Only thing I found out before i died was that there was a LEEEEERRROOOOOYYYY!!!! present game.

you seriously took my lynch away. lol! i was afraid that if i acted TOO spammy that y'all would know right away i was a VI. oh, and my last line would've been:

"Gamon > Haggar (or whoever)? YOU BET YOUR SILLY BUMS I AM! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!"

teach me, Gorny. teach me how to be silly and suspectful.

edit: it's Ankeli's turn. or Trionth's. Trionth, did you say you had a game, yeah?

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

I'd like to thank YAWP for hosting such an ambitious game. I thought there were some fantastic ideas included. I'm sure we'll be seeing some elements again.

Some postmortem thoughts:
Tough break on the game occurring over the holidays. I think all the schedule changes had an effect. It wasn't just YAWP's schedule. I think most people were affected in some way.

Dual recruitment was an interesting twist. Conceptually, I like how it ties into parties, but I'm not sure if that aspect was implemented. Neither fight appeared to have parties involved. It also allows for swingy changes in the game math. A fight and a recruitment will alter lynch voting dramatically.

However, there was a downside of dual recruitment. No matter how I played the game, there was a decent chance I was going to end up on a different side. I think a third of the town didn't have a side to root for at the start of the game. That may have contributed to lack of lynches.

I briefly considered trying to stage a peon rebellion. Down with the oppressors! Turn the game into a 3 faction war. Without a fight mechanic, it might have worked. Instead I hinted early and often that I was recruitable yet was the only civilian not killed or recruited. Was I too subtle? Seemed too eager?

Speaking of fights... The fight mechanic was fun. There were only two fights completed, but even then, it had a big impact on the game. Used as scouting. Used to kill players to alter votes or win conditions. Again though, there was a downside: fights required both parties to communicate with the host after each step. Such a precondition is always difficult given how many time zones the players span. In addition, fight resolution seemed to stall the game several times while players were waiting on the outcome. I think a "showdown at sunrise" approach might result in smoother game play.

I'm surprised to hear nurman wasn't known to the mafia. It sounds like Gorny wasn't known to BA either. That could get weird: "You claim to be the townie recruiter and had no idea Gorny was recruited?" Did nurman and Gorny even know about the cults they were supposed to be in? Did they know the other members? Again more awkwardness: "You claim to be an adventurer and don't know anyone else who is an adventurer?"

The game ending when it did seemed a bit random. I get the feeling there was a desire to get the game over with.

I agree that this game probably works better with more players. One recruitment over 5 nights is too low, given how much the game mechanics seem to want recruitment.

Who has next game? Ankeli and Leo have talked about games they want to host. I'm not sure if the time is right for them yet. I've been making plans for a smallish game ready to step in quickly. If Ankeli wants to try for his large game but not enough sign-up, I'll have the small game ready. Same goes for anyone else if they want to host a larger game. I won't ask to host next round until others pass, since I know several others have called next.

I've been working on a Mass Effect themed game but it's far from complete. How many people are in line now? I'd like to place myself at the back of the line.

well I couldnt be NKed unless you knew who the traitor was as well...I think i tried to recruit gorny but it was on an even night and I had forgotten I could only recruit on odd nights. :/

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

i think it's Ankeli, Trionth, Gory (?? the one who had the small game), and im in there somewhere. :dontknow:

I think a small mafia break would do good for us all. Activity has been dipping lately. Maybe hold 3-4 weeks off and then start, I could ready my Star Wars game by then easily, even with all the hassle at work. :)

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

I agree on the activity part. I'm fine with having a break - not like it would affect me much, what with other active games elsewhere. By the way, one of my games has currently 4484 posts, and is the largest game ever in the history of mafiascum.net. And we're not nearly done yet... I expect we'll pass 5000 before we're finished.

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

I hope the next game will be more like a traditional mafia game.

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

I've two games in mind, one non themed and the other a themed game... but I'm taking a few games off so I'm not even in line to host. Also not playing for the next game or two.

Taking a break and doing other things, currently assisting Harrison Jones on the road to Fortune and Glory.

well.... mine is traditional-esque... i have to re-read what i have down because i haven't looked at it since October, but i feel everything is okay. >.> and it is themed, but nothing too complicated.

a break sounds quite lovely. :) but that means the Compound better be busy. ;)

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

The biggest problem with the recruitment was the lack of players. There were too few peons floating around. It made recruiting damn near impossible.

The parties were for the Cultists/Adventurers. They could team up if they found each other. But again, there were so few of them, it never reached fruition. I probably should have just made the peons adventurers/cultists and dropped the recruiting entirely.

Agreed.

Re: Y.A.W.P's Warcraft Themed Pen 'n Paper RPG style Mafia Game Game Thread

I doubt that a break would change anything. I would rather opt for a rule that would encourage activity.
