Universal RWM?

To be honest I wouldn't mind people using them and use them in MP, after bliz basically just said "fUXOR J00" to all of us. Don't think I'll be using them as I have no runes left.

No wait, I still have crapload of HF ready chars backed on CD... But that would require me to work. :uhhuh:

Ok so exactly how does this work, can we simply apply RTB's mod to 1.11, or do we have to wait until he posts an updated mod.

Whats this about changing the .txt files of the game instead, it seems like it would be much easier.

I just updated my game with RTB's modified Runes.txt posted @ other place. Seems to work fine right now. It requiered an MPQ extractor though so it might not be the easiest solution.

Yeah but where do I put/what do I do with the rune.txt file, just pop it into my Diablo 2 directory?
make a folder in you d2 directory named data/global/excel
put the rune.txt in the excel folder.
make another shortcut on your desktop and right click it to the properties.
In the target it should look like this
"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -direct -txt

I think this particular mod presents an interesting situation.

The runewords' data is all in the MPQ already. In this case, simply flipping the "server" flag provides EXACTLY IDENTICAL gameplay to the realms - and since runes.txt is human readable, that's easily verifiable too.

To me, that fact makes this mod significantly different from previous FE mods or even red rune mods.

I'm still hoping someone will find a way to patch D2Common.dll so that the "is on realms" check is skipped with regards to the 3 keys.

I myself am going to say: SCREW YOU BLIZZARD: and use the RWM i don't feel the need to be punished for not liking to be messed with by all the cattle.net players (or most there was some i played with that I liked) i never traded SP and it won't bother me to not do it in 1.11. only played 1 MP game and that was mod free anyway but now i feel they could have brought us up to cattle.net level with this patch but don't care for us

Yeah, I believe that I'm gonna run this mod as well. Since I'm doing a fresh start (tm) anyways, I really don't see what I have to lose. I had my hopes up for this patch, but at least the runewords are all coded officially, we're just enabling them for those who deserve them. Cheers!

That actually sounds very interesting. By the sounds of it, a mod that could simply bypass that "server" tag would basically put us on par with the bnutters...

How about a side program or mod that would only change the result of the check to make D2 think you are on the realms, would that be possible?

Well, on a basic level, SOMEWHERE there's a check that say's "if you're on the realms, proceed". Simply getting rid of that check might be easier.

OTOH, a lot of work has been done emulating b.net servers. bnetd would be a great source to build a fake b.net "wrapper" for SP games. That said, Blizzard really isn't too fond of bnetd, so pursuing that angle might be frowned upon strongly.

i'm in for any mods that give us what is available to bnet-ers. if people wanna build an mp group to go untwinked to killing the three ultra-brothers put me down for a medic.

Id also go along with using the mod. Id just like to be able to have everything thats available on bnet without all the spam add messages, the average bnet players, and above all......THE LAG.

Clicky for modified runes.txt.

Gohanman: A trainer would be best, setting a certain value so the game thinks it's online. But for now, this runes.txt will do.

Trainer? Isn't that usually used to refer to a character / item editor? I would think the game's online status would be in game files, not character files.

Well, I know I'm installing the RWM as soon as I have time, along with 1.11. The nerf to synergy bonuses doesn't bother me (though I always liked using bloodmoon to buff up my clay golem from Stone...). But I want the FE mod (three of my four HC deaths were due to the FE bug), and I want the new runewords...

I am pleasantly surprised by the amound of support the RWM is getting. I was kinda hoping this would happen, but didn't think it would. I will install it when I get home from work tonight!

A mass conversion! Goodness!
I can't be left behind like this!

Well, I'll wait for awhile. If this snowballs, I'll probably go the same way.
What? I'm a follower, not a leader. Anything wrong? Haha! :p

BTW, are you guys going for RWM only?
Or does it include FE-nerfed/eliminated feature?

I was under the impression that the patch fixed FE already. Best I can tell so far, the only decision that really needs to be made is RWM or not.
