the folder you've extracted 'runes.txt' file should be
C:\Program Files\Diablo II\runewords\data\global\excel\runes.txt
only then you can start the game in C:\Program Files\Diablo II\runewords

in your case the subfolder called 'runewords' is missing
I closed diablo2 went and deleted the other file i extracted to the diablo2 folder, Extracted the zip to C:\Program Files\Diablo II\runewords\data\global\excel\runes.txt like you said, restarted diablo2 with the shortcut and tried to socket a 3os bow with tir+tal+amn to make edge but i just get a gemmed bow with the rune mods like before i don't know whats up

I couldn't agree more with you jjscud, although I'd rather not have to return to bnet for that... I still have some of my characters there, but I'm not looking forward to hunting for the keys all over again in bnet, and it would be nice having the charm in SP either, since it's all I play now  Anyways, I have faith in modders, I'll wait and see what happens :)

I too 110% agree with jjscud, I dont' beleive the crap that SP can't handle the uber bosses. If anyone is upto to arm, drop me an email, I'm up the party (gotta test my old barb skills, since melee is the way to deal with them). my email: deathmaster @ operamail . com

idealy, if we go a MP to get the uber bosses, we may need few strong melees (killing), a barb (BO/kill), another couple of pally (auras/support), and possible a necro (curse + CG).

I extracted RTB's runeword.zip to here
C:\Program Files\Diablo II\data\global\excel\runes.txt

then i made a new short cut and set the target to
"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -direct -txt

then set the start in to
"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\runewords"

I can right click the new shortcut click the properties link, click on find item and it takes me to my d2 folder and the runewords folder is there with the rune.txt in it. but i still can't get the runewords to work, i know i have to be making this harder then it is, but its got me pulling my hair out. can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong please.

I might be wrong, but if I'm interpreting what you're written here correctly, when you extracted the .zip file you specificed "C:\Program Files\Diablo II\data\global\excel\runes.txt" as the path.

That would mean that you'd end up with a directory structure like "C:\Program Files\Diablo II\data\global\excel\runes.txt\runewords\data\global\excel\"

If I've guessed correctly here is what you want to do:
Extract the file again but specify path as "C:\Program Files\Diablo II"
After extracting, check your Diablo II folder for a "Runewords" directory
If you have the Runewords directory you probably did it right

EDIT:
Hey, I also just noticed that your shortcut is wrong. It should be Game.exe where you have DiabloII.exe. Otherwise, it is correct.

I hope this helps.

The site owners have no problem wiht the use of mods. But they do not want the SPF to host them, or be the source of technical support. This has been the policy since we became "mod friendly".

Despite the recent popularity of certain mods, the policy stands firm. Since this thread has evolved into a technical support one, it will now be closed.
