Universal RWM?

I have always played up until now as a "vanilla" player, mostly because I wanted to be able to trade. However, now that 1.11 is out, I have decided to change over to using the RWM. I have archived all my 1.10 items and am doing a fresh start, something I had thought about doing before but wanted to try some builds before I did. Just got my game modded, so I am off to start the new builds with a necro. Only items I am moving over from 1.10 are a starting wand for him and 5 of the higher runes (Um the highest I think) that I found before in anticipation of making use of these new runewords at some point.

I am not making the switch to mods because I feel screwed out of anything by this last patch, but because I really don't see Blizzard doing much more with the game I love. To make different things available to me as a single player, I see mods as the only hope to keep things fresh. I think the restart plus all the new runewords should keep it fresh enough for me for a LONG time.

All you need is one of them friends that finds a lot of great runes, then stops playing forever and gives them to you. :teeth:

I'm still debating as to weather or not to go to 1:11. I've downloaded it and have just downloaded RTB's 1:11 runewords as well. Thanks for the time and effort you have put into all this RTB

A question for you that have already started 1:11 runewords.
Do you install the intire folder into you D2 directory eg: runewords/data/global/excel or is it just the

data/global/excel part.

Thanks :)

You download the runes.txt and put it in this folder path

X:\YourDiablo2folder\data\global\excel\runes.txt

Then you gotta add the -direct -txt into your shortcut

I understand the shortcut (-direct -txt) My confusement was in the data/global/excel part. I was resonably sure it was that way but needed someone to say yes or no :)
Thank you so much *hugs :)

Ok, here we go again, I hope this RWM thread is okay to ask this in?

I read in another thread here that all you have to do to get the new runewords is to copy/paste the 1.11 patch mpq in over the existing 1.10 mpq. Is this true? If so does this unlock all the available runewords or just the ones that weren't available to SP'ers before. which is only 4 or so more runewords IIRC. Also if this does unlock all the runewords, would that make me ineligible to participate in the grail thread, as it wouldn't exactly be a vanilla version of 1.10 anymore.
TIA

It does seem to work, yes. The game will still be more or less 1.10, except there will be all the runewords, the new keys that do nothing, and a broken Hell Fangskin.

All RWs will be enabled by doing this.

Doing this is no different than applying any other mod, so whatever rules apply to using mods in the grail quest, apply to this too.

Add one more supporter of mod. I hope someone will have made the mod to enable b.net uber bosses in SP. I will surely install the mod. All it takes to change from "purist" to mod user is simple word "fuX0r J00" from blizzard.

If blizzard was purely concering about legit copy of D2, why don't they include a code to unlock the "extra" features. So we could login on b.net server, verify our copies, download/install the code (uniq code by each copy), and everyone will be happy. Instead, they gave us the finger. The whole blizzard management deserves one word - F.U.B.A.R.

A couple of stupid questions:

If I use the RWM, will I be able to MP with non-mod users? Also, will I still be able to use Battle.net?

it depends on whether they allow modded users to join your game, you are physically able to join though

bnet, yes, just use 2 diablo shortcuts, one without the added text, and one with, when you want to go bnet use the one without.

A quick question about the RWM. Does it enable all the ladder only runewords?
I just tried to make an Insight Colossus Voulge and I got just the runes and not a runeword. This also happened when I tried to make a 1.10 runeword that shouldn't need a mod to make, Crescent Moon.

I'm not sure if I'm geting to the mod, I installed as per the included instructions. Here is a pic of my desktop shortcut. This points to the Runewords folder in my D2 directory, which is what the instructions say should be done.

Is there an MPQ version of the mod posted somewhere that I can download?
I much prefer that type anyway, over the -direct -text method.
Thanks in advance

put the direct text part inside the quotation marks

No I got that part right, but after looking at my shortcut again I noticed the "e" in text, which should just be "txt".

It works fine now, just checked and the Voulge is showing as an Insight
DUH, I really need to get checked for Alzheimer's. Sorry to bother this esteemed group with my absent-mindedness.

I extracted RTB's runeword.zip to here
C:\Program Files\Diablo II\data\global\excel\runes.txt

then i made a new short cut and set the target to
"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -direct -txt

then set the start in to
"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\runewords"

I can right click the new shortcut click the properties link, click on find item and it takes me to my d2 folder and the runewords folder is there with the rune.txt in it. but i still can't get the runewords to work, i know i have to be making this harder then it is, but its got me pulling my hair out. can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong please.

the folder you've extracted 'runes.txt' file should be
C:\Program Files\Diablo II\runewords\data\global\excel\runes.txt
only then you can start the game in C:\Program Files\Diablo II\runewords

in your case the subfolder called 'runewords' is missing
