Hi guys, this one sounds hilarious so I'll join in, this is my very first SPF tournament, I hope I can get far enough in this to be interesting.

I rolled a PNB necro, I'm not sure if I'll go bone or poison - bone might be better since a weak poison nova will be completely useless in higher difficulties. I will try to use runewords, since a weak bone necro without insight is going to be heart breaking to say the least.

I named him OHNO so that if(when) I die, it will exclaim what I said out loud.

@sequoia: I'd probably go bone since the chance of randomly assigned points landing on a bone skill are higher. And since nearly every bone skill adds synergy too the others you'll end up with a more powerful build. A bone necro will be my next entry if I start another character after Wildarms. Either that or a SD Asn inspired by the Tournament: Beyond the edge of the shadows I noticed under the inactive tournaments. I'm halfway tempted to just forgo trying the CS/Barb and trying out a Bowsin. Barbs are kind of boring to me.

Hmm, I just had an epiphany typing that last paragraph and I think I will try a Bowsin using the shadow discipline tree. I'm too much of a ranged player at heart.

Huge update for Darkness. I was without internet all break, so Darkness is now sitting in the Rogue Encampment in NM. I managed to go all of normal without using any skills outside of the curse tree, but I have serious doubts that that will continue for long.

Act 3 was long and boring, but no trouble. A 24% LR gc dropped right before I entered the Great Marsh, which spawned with gloams, so that was pretty nice. I also gambled a sweet circlet for Chalan which I'll post a read out of later.

Act 4 was also no trouble. I gambled a new belt and boots, which improved my MF and resists. I grabbed a sol in the Plains of Despair, and got a thul from the HF. I was worried about the CS because DV doesn't work on OK's but Chalan only got IM'ed once. I also thought Diablo was gonna be trouble but on p8 he only took 3 full juvs, 3 super healing pots and no trips to town. Decrep plus a cold damage charm slowed him to a crawl.

Act 5 was also really easy, except for outside areas. It sucks when the merc is the only form of damage and he is attacking walls and door instead of the monsters around him. The only decent find from the whole act was an ammy with +1 summoning and 25% MF. That will be useful if I decide to use gumby. Baal's minions were easy; decrep made it easy to separate the last two waves and DV dominated the first 3. Baal took a while, but like Diablo, he was no challenge at all. I think I only used 1 mana pot the whole fight. Was hoping for a shael in this act or the cows but no such luck. I will continue to use my bone shield of deflecting. I imbued a plated belt because the belt had the most room for improvement but it was crap. I socketed and personalized Chalan's circlet:

Well, everything on my computer got deleted, so i am out. i was havin' fun with paranoid, but i don't think he would have made it to the end. i did enjoy it while it lasted. Good luck everyone still in the tourney!

That is terrible rocks! :( Sorry to hear that

Ivy killed Andy tonight at level 20. I plan to eventually(probably) convert her to a bowsin, but since the claws make for easy progress through normal I'm sticking with dual wield for now. We've been lucky enough to collect a few sc of shock to boost damage quickly.

So I didn't remember the druid skill tree as well as I thought I did, and it turns out that JosefK is a shapeshifter. I'm not too disappointed, since I just made a softcore summoner, but I've never tried a bear before. Kodiak it is.

He's currently resting after fighting his way to the outer cloister WP. Well, Heather is actually resting, since she did virtually all the work. K, for the most part, stands in front and lets people hit him.

Nice progress Norcim105 :) As for the +summons ammy - correct me if got this wrong but its not allowed to add skills in other trees what so ever and it wouldnt help with +skills from items.

As for the Median - haven`t played it but i`m under impression that its very far from the original LoD in terms of Classes, Skills, Monsters, Areas, Drops, Experience, Items....pretty much everything, correct me again if i`m wrong:)

I`m also sorry to hear that, ILikeRocks. Was nice to meet you here, hope to see you in another tourney, if u don`t eventually decide to re-enter once again ^.^

You cannot add hard points into the other trees, however, using items that grant skills from other trees is permitted. If you choose to do that, you would forfeit bonus points (see rule 6 in bonus scores). If he did that, I'm pretty sure the amulet would work.

I thought about this for a while before responding that dlav (or anyone else) could try out the tournament in Median. I decided to allow it for a couple of reasons:

1. There's really nothing in the ruleset that wouldn't apply to playing in Median -- single pass, untwinked, hardcore, random skill points, etc. Although it's probably obvious, he wouldn't be able to collect the "no RWM" bonus because that's irrelevant in Median.

2. I like to encourage participation and have fun so if playing this way if fun for someone, might as well do it in Median.

3. I think most everyone around here is smart enough to know that a score from Median and a score from LoD probably can't be compared equivalently so who cares if they're on the same table as long as there's something to note that a specific character is Median.

4. I'm interested in learning more about Median so I figured it would be a good way to hear about someone's adventure in great detail.

5. Host's perogative :grin:


But yes, Median is quite different from LoD so I'm kind of interested in seeing what happens!

in median it is Amazingly easy to die. My nec is lvl 38 in act 3 trav and has died multiple times.
Ohomemgrande you should really try median xl. It is awesome.

I also think its awesome judging from what ive heard, but ive got too many goals in original LoD left to try it now (i dont have even 1 guardian for example ^.^) :) btw its always easy to die - all depends on how u play - i think all my SC chars have died thousands of times :D

Well normally I'd wait until the end of an act to update my progress though normal, but I just had to share Ivy's good fortune with everyone before I went to work. She just created the staff and is sitting outside the palace. All progress made has been at /p8. I gambled a decent elemental damage bow at level 22 and decided to switch to bowsin; at least when I'm not whacking things with my gull dagger. Speaking of MF items I cubed up all my topaz and had 4 normal pieces left. Three pieces went into a breat plate for the merc and the last into a 2so mask for me. My boots also have 19mf.
total mf /w merc + gull switch = 183 (!)

So what does 183mf give you?
Not one... not two... but three! Three pieces of Cathans!
Just to clarify the amulet was found with only 100mf since I couldn't cube up yet

But who wants to stop with set pieces? Where are those juicy uniques?
BAM! 30% chance guards.

Now I am expecting some horrible death to come Ivy's way... Off to work :coffee:

This would`ve made me so happy (topaz!) on Normal...) So yea, made it to act2 finally - don`t have very much time for d2 lately:/ just like everyone else on this tourney it seems, guys i miss your updates!
Andy wasn`t too hard, though she could bring down my HP bulb by quite a bit, guess mainly because my poison resistance being so low (20 after stacking antidote potions), but a couple of full rejuvs made up for that.
About the whole act. I have worked out fighting tactics for most monster types and so far they work well for me. A nice change after Normal is the much higher number of unique monsters, which usually aren`t too hard for me since i can howl the minions and fight the unique alone (champion packs are a little harder usually). My resistances are extremly low (still questing with full mf gear), what keeps me alive is ~2k hitpoints. In some situations Elly also makes an excellent tank (1k+ hp, 60+ all resistances and 1k+ defense) - mostly against ranged monsters since she doesn`t run away from them - so i can just hide behind her back ^.^ good girl she is:yes:
Finally cubed up a shael, so Elly can be very proud about her bow. Maximum style points for a fire rogue using such a flaming bow! :jig:
29 sets/uniques found through the act, those worth mentioning are:
goldwrap (now i need another shael to upgrade it...)
angelic ring (first part of the famous AR combo!)
skystrike (pretty decent boost to my damage if i find another source of AR, which currently is a fool`s Hunters bow)
Right now theres nothing more coming to mind, I`m definitely forgetting something since its very late night (or early morning?) and ive worked all day, and this act took me more than a week (seems so..) and many sessions of playing, so forgive me :wink:

Very nice early game finds, ginNtonic, if you keep this up you`ll easily beat Storms` luck of finding great items!;)

Haven't started her yet though. I might eventually.

Cool tournament idea. I'm going to keep up with this one.
