Another update on my sorc.

Progression:

Same old p3 TZ all the way through.
Nightwing !?
Nightwing#2 !?

Decided to giveup on hoping for Nightwing + Fathom setup and go for Full Tals. Will be hitting NM Andy for Tals ammy.
Definitely gaining too much exp without enough rune drops. Still ~Gul worth of runes missing for CtA.
Minor upgrades
- Perfect Spiderweb from TZ Andy.
- 48mf -> 50mf War Travs.
Still picking up all gems for crafts and rerolling TZ gcs; no big hits nor cold skillers yet.
3 socket quests remaining.

Personally I would run Hell Andariel instead of NM, especially as you may get a TZ every now and again. I did this for SoJ on Savine.

Yup. Mostly p3 since lvl 96. I dabbed into p8 for quick runs like pindle, but I had a hard time keeping merc alive without life leech (insight/cleanse/prayer setup) in other maps.

I could have switched around the setup based on each TZ, but since my play sessions are usually short 15-30 min each time, i went with whatever was the most comfortable.

And i do reroll any horrible TZ maps, so i can toggle between NM and Hell while rolling maps and stick with whichever decent andy map comes up first.

P.S. just to note, from that 95% exp in the U sacred armor screenshot, the last ~5% took me ~1.5hrs of p3 TZ runs.

Onnim - The Wind Druid have 93 lvl.

I've decided to give an update now, to somewhat preserve further that motivation and patience I have, but also to show a bit of where I am.

Lower Kurast... How well do we know it right? I spent quite a bit of time there. Vex, Ohm fell rather quickly, but ber I was not able to get. Of course, somewhere along the way I managed to get a sur from LK but I got another sur from.... cube 2xLO As you know or don't know Jah I managed to gain on cow at the beginning of my journey so it was quite a big help. Anyway, somewhere around lvl 88 I managed to get Enigma, CTA and Hoto

Of course Onnim was disappointed with Hoto, which in the first release gave 31 then 30 and in the third 33....

Cta 6/1/4 was not my dream come true, but better CTA than no cta.

In addition, I have only 1 skiller, so Onnim is not very "satisfied" with this fact, but it is what it is. As Phineas wrote in his journey as a wind druid it would be quite difficult to do chaos or baal without skillers. Slow. And in the pit it pretty much goes as such.

So I spent some time on Mephisto, and here I already had some luck, because I managed to get items such as Shako, Arachnid Mesh, 1 Soj, Mara 24, Magefist, Sandstorm Trek in a fairly quick time. Unfortunately, I spent a very large part of my time here but failed to get The Reaper's Toll. It would have been a big help for my merc, but something RNG has not been kind to me so far in terms of this item.

Pit I do on /players8 cleaning everything. I have quite a "small map" But quite a lot of champions so it goes even, even. For sure if I had more skillers it would be faster and easier, but I'm not complaining. I still have time to get them, and if they don't fly it's hard. I just don't know how it will look with leveling with only one on Nihlathak. From the Pit the only interesting drops are tomb reaver and Ohm so far.

It is certainly safe to play. Even with a variety of auras like might or fanaticism he was able to cope and sometimes lost 2000hp. I never had to click esc and leave. So in that respect it is not bad.

I stay until lvl 97 on the Pit. After that, probably Nihlathak right away. Now I'm setting my sights on patience and quietly pursuing my goal. The biggest lvl I had in diablo 2 was 94 so I don't know myself what to expect later. If anything, I'm open to tips on my path to lvl 99. Probably if I can't get Reaper by lvl 97, I'll have to make the long trek to Mephisto before Nihlathak, but we'll see. I still have plenty of time to do it.

I have Hoto, Enigma in light plate, Spirit in shield, Soj, 1 fcr ring, Mara, Shako, Arachnid Mesh, Sandstorm Trek,

My merc have Insight in Eth Thresher, Delirium and Treachery in Ornate Plate 636 ed. Only once died so it is quite strong.

I appreciate people who strive for lvl 99. It doesn't matter if it's with or without tz. Respect.

I don't know how to add Onnim to this list, so if someone could do it and explain to me how to add it with progress I would appreciate it.

Nice progress @Onnim And it sounds like your experience has been similar to mine. And I like the plan to switch to Nihl at 97, which I wished I had done after the struggles I had with Baal runs for the start of 97.

I do think more Meph might be worth it for you, though, especially with Enigma in hand, to land that Reapers. It makes a big difference for the Windy, and I think is likely to speed up XP progress in the Pit runs relative to time spent on a good Meph map.

Hm. Got Tal's Ammy from NM/Hell andy as the ~20th set amulet.

Sadly, full Tals was not what I was hoping it to be - the expected safety and comfort provided by full set bonuses was no where near what I wanted.

The big question I have now is,
do I socket the @34 vipermagi and shako for the 2 cold facets I have available?
Or, do i try and wait for the nightwings or even blizz ormus?

Also a quick update on DoubleTrouble, my Double Throw Barb that is grinding to 99 as well. Terrorized Meph at level 93.3 dropped

On the way to Meph a sweet rune drops...

This rune drop now makes it a very realistic that Double could go back to LK and farm up a Lo rune to make a Pride Merc weapon. I would switch from a Frenzy Barb merc to a Might Aura Act 2 merc with Pride. That would give DoubleTrouble a DOUBLE aura of Might+Concentration! Huge Damage boost!

CLVL 98.9 Lightning Sorceress

It's the home stretch now!

When I last posted here, Das-Omen was at clvl 98.7, and I was taking a break from D2 to see if I could help the tendonitis in my right arm heal. The break lasted five weeks ... and of course, the tendonitis is still there ... but changing roles at work and physical therapy have gotten it to a vastly better place than where things were back in August! I'm trying not to push my luck too much, but sometimes I'm even playing for more than half an hour a day

. Let's hear it for little wins!

I've been playing this character without Terror Zones because that's the mission I set out to accomplish back in December of 2021. And also, I'd like to complete my 1.10+ Grail within the pre-Terror Zone drop rate paradigm. My 1.10+ Grail has been at -2 for a while now, with Astreon's and Tyrael's being the final holdouts. When I took a break back in August and September I said I was saving up my drop luck

Well bummer dude. Still, it will be a pairing of drops long remembered! As per tradition, I stopped my Baal runs when the first Templar's dropped and ran as many lvl 85 areas as I could in the same game before I needed to stop and head to work. Perhaps if I'd only been able to run for just a little bit longer ...

Much later, Das-Omen also found another one of these:

So that brings Das-Omen's named Sacred Armor total to: three IK's, three Templar's, no Tyrael's. Yet ... there's still that last ten percent of clvl 98 left to go

I've been a long time lurker and you guys popped in my head for some odd reason. Decided to make an account and buy D2:R. Working on a HC Paladin. I see FoH is a viable build for leveling now? Any recommendations on a spec for leveling until FoH? How does it compare to BH for untwinked (with Enigma farming ofc)?

Saving my skill points farming +20 poison jewels for now. I'd like to save all my respecs for as needed only. Any tips?

FoH is, as Borat would say: Very Nice!

If you want to save respects, rock Holy Bolt and fee unstoppable until you reach a monster that stops you. Then run away like it’s a White Rabbit from The Holy Grail. Or just do p1 through act 2 until tombs to level then if you wanted.

Holy bolt is doable leveling straight into FoH. Takes longer than Holy Fire, but I’m sure you considered that.

I ran one char without using my first respect, and I don’t think I will again for the 99 project, if I need a respect I’ll just farm keys or eyes or whatever it is you need to make the respect potion.

TLDR: holy bolt into FoH works. Holy fire through act 3 nm is faster (as act 4 has mainly demons FoH tears through it). Make a new thread introducing yourself !

I hadn't thought of that! I'm coming off of a Subnautica kick. It takes a bit for my brain to reorient back to another game. I knew Holy Fire could take me places but I didn't know it would be decent up to A4 NM. Holy fire/zeal? I'll have to refresh myself on CB options for lower levels outside of 'Black' but holy fire/zeal could definitely be an option. It would also give me an opportunity to level a melee which I haven't done in a long while.

I'll make that thread very shortly. Appreciate ya!

I made it through normal but respected at end of a5 or beginning of NM. It was a “FistFest” through the Animal parts of the following acts.

I made it through normal and had to respec unfortunately. This FoHdin has been on my mind for a few years. The first five minutes of A1 NM gave me two 4os Scythes. I had managed to find the runes for 2x spirits and 2x insights before I finished Baal in normal. Were the rune drop rates upped? I found a significant amount of them that I thought I would normally grab from A1 NM.

Sitting at 42 and I'm searching for a spirit weapon base and a paladin shield base with +res for spirit. Terror things are pretty neat so far. Not sure the point of them though or how I get them to change. Norma -> NM doesn't work so I'm assuming it's randomly changed per character or something. I'll have to Google this later.

Yeah, I think Terror Zones have been a nice addition to the game. Normal and NM Terror Zones are a handy place to build up levels before changing difficulties if you feel under-levelled before jumping to NM or Hell. In p8 NM TZs, you can easily push a character to level 75-80 in a relatively short amount of time. That's overkill in most cases, but I know some folks like to start Hell at level 75 for example. And some gear requires higher levels when twinking. And of course, Hell TZs give you a lot more variety for getting EXP even at higher levels. Somebody sharing progress in this thread--Gynli, I think?--has got their character to like level 97 or 98 just plugging away at p3 TZs. That's impressive, and IMHO would be more fun than just doing Diablo/Baal/Nihlathak over and over.

Some clever person figured out the pattern for Single Player TZs and put a calendar online. So you can always know which area is Terrorized currently. It changes every hour. https://www.d2emu.com/tz

Hartwig the Barb dinged 96 on the run I dropped my last key for another torch set, nice gift from nihl. I got him to 96.4 farming tz's and it honestly is pretty quick but I got roped into a few other characters and have only continued him to take advantage of tz WSK as it comes and goes lately. He did pop an ohm and a sur on a few different trav sessions so I was able to build my fortitude. I find that enigma mobility is typically a better time save than fortitude though so my merc usually runs with it but I'm glad I did non eth so I have the option. Got my first Zod as well. That was a sweet drop but that honestly will likely go to a twinked fury druid someday since I don't see Hartwig making a eBotd on his journey.

I ran Dottie the amazon to 86 beating baal so she could farm for a light sunder. I've never really run a zon before and had a great time on exploding arrow to 40 and LF through NM and Hell. I had abysmal luck with any sort of questing loot but had a good time and ran about 8 hours of LK over 700 runs after clearing hell. She topped out with 2 ist and a gul and will need some serious farming before she is very competent but I wasn't too eager to do another 4k LK runs just yet.

I picked up Del the blizzard sorc I had left questing in A2 hell and had a good time completing the game with her and this time the quest loot was pretty decent. I ended up with an eth 5os GT for obedience to boost my merc, vex and sur from LK in less than 500 runs, and Nightwing's Veil from hell baal(Q). I had intended to farm towards a lightning or nova build for endgame because I've always wanted to try it even if it is more gear intensive than the blizzard sorc. However, nightwing's veil raised some questions. My assumption was that top end Lightning/Nova was more efficient than top end Blizzard. However, I already have a hoto and nightwing's veil to use on blizzard while I farm and level a bit more (currently at 88). Now I just need a few armor pieces to round out the character aside from the chase items and I'm torn on the direction to go.
If Lightning/Nova are superior to blizzard with endgame gear, are they good enough to compensate the time loss for hunting infinity and griffons? If I run blizzard I don't think I'd try and find death's fathom since my big benefit of running blizzard is saving time on farming. In the end my question could be irrelevant since a TZ could drop fathom or griffon's and redirect my character at any time but with the rarity of both I'm curious if it's even worth focus farming for either or just running p3 or p5 tz's with a slightly incomplete blizzard build.
I've got one sur rune for now from LK and my crossroads will be when I get to my first ber. If I'm staying blizzard I'll be able to hit fcr breakpoint without vipermagi and will probably make COH and just run prayer/insight/cure merc. But if I wanna switch Lightning/Nova I'll need to save it for Infinity. Any tips or direction from the other sorcs on here?

Last question, sorry for the long post! I'm curious about running an LOD barb on an older patch. He's my fav character and I want a different playthrough experience but am not familiar with the old patches. Would anyone have any recommendations on which ones to try out for a good barb playthrough?

Champion Redux, Blizz Sorc, and Emilio the A2 HF Merc, Lvl 98

Redux hit 98 and will transition to Nihl runs. I'm thinking Lightning, rather than Fire, even though I did Lightning before, because I have the FCR gear to equip CM even without Griffons. Given her runehaul, however, part of me wants to do Fire so I can use some of the shiny rocks on a Phoenix

Speaking of which, we left off at 97.5 after RFL in May at 97.55. I didn't really touch her until October, with two weeks of play pushing her to 97.75. She picked up a third Cold Skiller, another Nightwings (lower roll), a Gul and another Arachnids over that stretch.

In mid-November, we picked her back up, pushing to 97.9 by month's end (with a trip to the East Coast for Thanksgiving mixed in). Notable drops were Giant Skull, Stormspire, Puls 5 and 6, Ravenlore, and Jah #2 from CS, plus these fun gloves that she equipped until they broke:

After another trip back East, we finished the level, with notable drops of Um #2, Jah #3, Pul #7 and Mal #2. Across the half level, she also picked up some fun jewels, charms, and jewelry, most notable a Pally Defensive Skiller of Vita (39), Graverobber of Life (15), a Realgar (22%) Jewel of Carnage (14), and a fire Facet (5/4), plus this ring that might replace the current FCR ring due to fire resists:
