Joined the game tonight and played him for the first time. Difficult (and no tele due to lag), but lotsa fun. Will definitely see you later this week.

Re: The PvP Thread

Thanks for the updates.

FoE, RS1, 2 or both?

Added links to pvp week #9, #10 and some more videos. If someone has the time and patience, it would be cool to list all spf pvp videos that are probably out there.

Re: The PvP Thread

Hello everyone.

Please allow me to discuss one topic before my introduction. I would like to play PvP here, but I'm a little confused about rules regarding older version items. I'm under the impression that You use older version items most of the time in duels. Is that right?

If yes, I'll pass then. But if You play with 1.13d items only too, I'll be glad to try it.

Re: The PvP Thread

Hi there,

By older version items do you mean item versions that don't exist in the current patch, or any item not found in the current patch?

Re: The PvP Thread

Probably all PvP-ers around here use at least one item from previous versions. Actually I'm curious is there anyone who don't use items like that on at least one of their PvP characters.
Some players play older versions so it's not too hard to get item via trading.

Re: The PvP Thread

I was thinking mainly about beta cta, which is much more powerful than the standard one. And then other items such as dmg charms, 5 frw scs and certain uniques. After a second thought though, I changed my mind. I'll be playing anyway. I might trade for those items or maybe even obtain them myself, If they'll be too big of a difference. Thanks for Your comments.

Re: The PvP Thread

Difference between beta cta and 1.13 cta is not that gamebreaking as it might look like, except for certain builds like bowazons who depend on long lasting BO which beta cta provides and 1.13 cta don't.
Dmg charms are important for bowazon too, making her decent opponent.

Biggest difference comes from charm wealth, usually 1.13 stuff. Also, there are many pvp characters around here, most of them are not really that strong, so if you make tier 1 character, you will do good.

Re: The PvP Thread

What. A decent skiller set (~ 15-25 life average?) with high end beta CTA is about equivalent to a nulio-tier skiller set (~40-45 life average?) with high end 1.13 CTA in terms of HP. The mana and duration are pretty huge as well. 1.07 Shako can break things even more, of course, and both of those are much easier to get than lolcharmsets.

(...but as someone without any of those things, I can tell you it's still very fun to play and possible to do well.)

Re: The PvP Thread

I made that question before because I'd have no problem swapping the beta CTA, beta BKWB and 1.07 shako in certain matches if it would bring an extra player. But not using anything found in 1.07 would be really hard for me because I found and traded several (non dmg) charms from that version.

I'm glad you decided to try to get/trade them. Playing previous versions is a great challenge and way to enjoy D2. It's true that having such items can make it a it harder for the new players and it does make a difference. But the playing skill is still more important imo.

1.07 shako is easy-ish to get. Beta CtA will depend a bit on your luck on the rolls, but even Fabian got a 12BO one. It all depends on the time investment you are whiling to make, but nagisa had a beta cta after three days? And frozzzen got two HC shakos in one month (not playing for a bunch weeks in that time)?

Re: The PvP Thread

Just wondering, with the talk of "building a Tier 1 character" etcetera, is there a guide/list with these builds and what tiers they are considered? I vaguely remember seeing such information once, but I think it was in regards to some other discussion, and can't seem to find it at the time.

I was originally going to ask, what does it take to make viable PvP character, such as damage/life targets? But it seems you already have most builds mapped out as "This is where to start, move up with wealth/skill." I just can't seem to find that info.

Re: The PvP Thread

We had a brief discussion about tier1 builds in the page 5 of this thread. There's probably more info out there, but I think the shared opinions here is good start.

Damage and life targets will vary a bit. So it's not easy to answer.

There are some nice guides in the PvP forum, and some not so nice ones. I guess we can try to link some here to help new PvPers.

If you are thinking in some specific(s) build(s) just let us know and I'm sure we'll share some opinions here.

Re: The PvP Thread

Tiers are pretty arbitrary, so I doubt there's a list that would be universally accepted. There's major discrepancy caused by gear/skill, e.g. (1) nulio amazon is much higher tier than average bowazon because of broken gear, or (2) paladin would be tier 1 if anyone aside from froz-sama could actually play it at a high level.

My personal opinion is that strongest builds are things like bonemancer, trapper, wind druid, and fire sorceress. They all do very high damage while being pretty easy to play and having very few problematic matchups. After those, builds start getting weaker based upon difficulty or occasional major matchup issues more than damage. BvC, ghost, bowazon, and [generic paladin] type stuff probably fit comfortably into second tier, and lesser played stuff such as poisonmancer, fire druid, lightning amazon, other sorceress types, kicksin, etc. come after that. It's all pretty silly though, since low tier build can have high success against certain high tier build.

There's no specific damage/life targets unless you are extremely serious about having enough hit points to tank x number of attacks or prevent hit recovery from y attacking class. I doubt anyone outside the nulio/Fabian tandem actually cares enough to plan that out, but who knows. Just try to find what you consider to be a good balance between the two based upon common sense as well as what you find comfortable after playing for a while. For example, my bowazon swapped 100 dexterity for 100 vitality at some point to increase her life from 1200 to 1700 at the cost of 10% damage. Moving another 100 stat points cuts damage off even further, while providing less relative % life, so it wasn't worth it to me, but other players have found it quite nice at the same time. Personal perspective, etc.

Re: The PvP Thread

@Nulio;
I'll be sure to read the discussion on p.5, thanks! Also, I'll start browsing the PvP Forum, and get familiar with as much as I can.

As far as something specific, for some reason, a Guided Arrow Enchant Sorc seemed like a decent start to me. Auto-hit main attack, prebuff damage, possibility of ES, and good mobility. But, ~2k Enchant just might not cut it? But, still seems like it would be a fun build to me.

@Nagisa;
I figured as much, with different wealth and player skill factoring in more than the build itself. As far as damage/life targets, I was thinking because I don't know what type of Absorb is typically "standard" that, for example, if you are playing a Fire damage based build, you need to do at least 12k LCS in order to be competitive. Maybe a Cold build only needs to do 2k LCS, because less standard Cold Absorb gears, or whatnot.

Anyways, I'll check around in the PvP forum, and start reading up. Thanks!
