The Certain Death Tournament.

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

Hadriela has defeated every monster in Hell Act 4!

Hadriela had some early trouble getting out of the Pandemonium Fortress (a CI Spawner and some Champion Balrogs held a pretty good block) but everything else was really easy.

The Outer Steppes had CI Spawners but at Players 1 they weren’t too bad (perhaps because Hadriela’s Firewall had finally reached a respectable Level 19 . . . Level 21 after Izual).

The Plains of Despair had no CI’s (except for one beasty Balrog) and no Gloams! . . . and was done at Players 3. Izual was located early and defeated with great ease.

The City of the Damned had no CI’s and was done at Players 3.

The River of Flame had no CI’s! . . but was done at Players 1 because there were Blunderbores and Blunderbores scare me. The Forge drop was pretty good I suppose . . . though Hadriela really has no use for a Pul Rune  . Another pretty good drop from the River of Flame was a four socketed Monarch Shield (pretty nice but Hadriela really can’t use a Spirit Shield because of what it would do to her resistances . . . but . . . a four pdiamond shield could really free up some other slots, so, perhaps there might yet be some use for it).

The Chaos Sanctuary was a bit messy but Hadriela was never really in any danger (the same could not be said for Azrael). Azrael had really wanted to upgrade to v1.13 so he wouldn’t have to face IM but Hadriela wouldn’t hear of it. The result, Azrael died . . . many times (perhaps ten) . . . all due to IM . . . so, Hadriela really got to know Tyrael very well  . Diablo should been destroyed with the Kelpie Snare / Static combo but my dog decided to maul me as I was battling the Infector of Souls and continued her assault through the battle with Diablo  . . . so I forgot to bring out the Kelpie Snare but things still went pretty well (Diablo dropped dead in less than a minute). Diablo dropped the only set/uniques of Hell Act 4 :unimpressed: . . . and they weren’t even good ones (the belt turned out to be Infernal’s).

Here were Hadriela’s stats at the end of Hell Act 4.

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

I've finally gotten around to install D2 again, and what better way to celebrate this, then to join a tourney? :P

Seriously, this tourney looks like loads of fun, and i have been enjoying reading everybody's progress.

So I hereby introduce Nico, a fire trapsin. I've always wanted to try one, and now that i stumbled across one in the mat/pat thread, I just had to do it.

EDIT: Just for the record, this char is created in SC, but will ofcourse be out of the tournament if/WHEN she dies:)

This is my first tournament ever, so please be gentle:nod:

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

Well, i managed to play a little bit after my previous post.

My plan from the start was to put points in fire blast, until wake of fire became available. Up until now i have only been putting statpoints in energy, resulting in a total of ~200 mana.

Wake of fire is a great spell.
Whenever possible, i try to lure the different packs together i one big group, drop some traps and then lean back and watch the destruction:evil2:

I know that this tactic won't last for long, but for now it gets the job done:)

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

@hans. Damn! Act 5 hell? Good job man getting that far! I wish you and Hadriela the best of luck on your quest to Guardianship. Just remember "slow and steady wins the race"!

Alice was more than delighted to step into town of Lut Gholein, as here she was met by a sturdy looking fellow by the name of Ahsab, the Prayer merc. Excellent a tank! I was beginning to worry about Alice’s tanking capabilities towards the end of Act 1. She is a very fragile girl you know!

I did something with Alice that I haven’t done with any of my previous characters before. And that was run straight towards the Halls of Dead. I wanted the cube so I could begin cubing some Savage Polearms for Ahsab. I figured the harder he hits, the quicker monsters will go down and the safer Alice will be. Well that was the original thinking anyway. Good thing it worked out as planned :). Once we had retrieved the cube, we began our Savage Polearm quest. BAM! The ingredients for the first Savage Polearm went in and transformed into a Savage Partizan. HAH score! Unfortunately, its requirements were very steep for poor Ahsab to wield, so I re-rolled. Surprisingly it only took two re-rolls to score a Vicious Partizan (40% ED) with 2 sockets! I stuffed two -% requirement jewels in there to create a nice starter stick. This should be more than sufficient to carry us to level 30, were Alice can summon her first Valk, a moment I am eager to witness and achieve.

With Ahsab’s new and improved weapon, progress as expected, became very safe and steady. I stood back most of the time, letting Ahsab do the majority of the work. Occasionally, I felt guilty and helped out with my “Steel” Flail when the opportunity aroused.

Duriel was taken on p/8. With a level 5 decoy and a hard hitting Ahsab, I felt confident we could take down the big slug. The strategy was fairly straight forward. Only one merc resurrection was needed for the whole fight. The drop was disappointing as per usual.

Interesting Drops:
*Manald Heal. +20 Life and 4%ML are some very nice mods for a ring. I will need a source of ML later on to allow for constant Guided Arrows. This is one option to consider.
*Ocher Grand Charm (20%). Stashed for NM, if needed.

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

Success! Hadriela has peformed a full clear of Hell Act 5. Here’s how it happened:

Hell Act 5 began pretty well. The Bloody Foothills had Burning Archers and Gremlins. The Burning Archers did some decent damage but weren’t CI so Hadriela did way more damage and was able to force her way through the Bloody Foothills at a mix of Players 1 and 3. Shenk and company were of course CI but Azrael and Hadriela’s Level 21 Firewall was more than enough to defeat the demon and earn Larzuk’s trust (the socketing quest didn't get used . . . I guess I really didn’t need it :whistling: ).

The Frigid Highlands had speedy Corrupted Rouge Lancers, Gremlins/Siege Beasts, and CI Slingers :\ . Hadriela proceeded through the area exercising extreme caution remembering well what had befallen Shatterproof but no dangerous Slinger uniques were encountered (really nothing too dangerous was encountered except for this massive FI/CI Beast that dropped Azrael several times).

Abaddon had Hell Temptresses (and therefore the Blood Mana curse), Frenzytaurs (I think), and Fallen Shaman. The biggest obstacle was a group of mana burning Fallen Shaman (and therefore mana burning Fallen that tended to get resurrected next to Hadriela :unimpressed: ), plus, the mana burning Fallen Shaman had support from a big group of Hell Temptresses that really didn’t want to be separated from the Fallen Shaman. So Hadriela was getting continuously mana burned by a skirmishing line of resurrected Fallen and getting bombarded by red orbs from (mostly off screen) Hell Temptresses (not a good combo). Finally Hadriela decided to get aggressive and tele’d in close to the Fallen Shaman and orbed them to death as she dodged the Hell Temptresses stream of orbs. The rest of Abaddon was pretty easy.

The Arreat Plateau didn’t have any CI’s so Hadriela was really tempted to up the players setting . . . but there were Slingers (Poison Immune) so Hadriela decided against it. Turns out there weren’t any really dangerous monsters in the entire area but better safe than sorry I suppose.

The Pit of Acheron had Salamanders, Balrogs, and Corpse Spitters (none of them CI) so Hadriela decided to get dangerous and upped the players setting to Players 5. No problems  .

The Crystalline Passage had Frenzytaurs, CI Serpents, and CI Corrupt Rouge Archers (gulp). Fortunately there wasn’t anything very dangerous near the entrance so Hadriela was able to clear some maneuvering (retreating) room before anything very dangerous appeared.

The Frozen River had Hell Temptresses (ugh more Blood Mana curse), CI Prowling Dead, and something that didn’t make a big impression (I’ve already forgotten). The Hell Temptresses were the only real problem . . . well them and the Evil Urns . . . I couldn’t stop myself from going for the full clear (urns included). Here's the worst thing that popped out of an Evil Urn (in the Frozen River . . . plenty of other nasty things popped out of Evil Urns elsewhere . . . ugh, I wanted to stop myself from Evil Urns but couldn’t . . . oh well, it worked out . . . this time . . . ) Anyhow, Anya was rescued without Hadriela encountering anything extremely dangerous. Anya’s reward was useless and Malah’s could not be used (sigh).

The Glacial Trail had more Frenzytaurs, more CI Serpents, and CI Invaders. Some Extra Fast CI Invaders made it really hard for Hadriela to get established in the Glacial Trail but the rest of the area was pretty easy . . . though progress remained very cautious because you’d never know when something really scary might appear out of nowhere  .

The Drifter Cavern had . . . um, uh, er, . . . beats me . . . couldn’t have been anything very interesting . . . next!

Next Hadriela secured the Frozen Tundra waypoint without incident and began the march on Nihlathak. Hadriela’s began by teleing into Pindle’s Hallway and defeating Pindle and the poison immunes before returning outside for the cold immunes (no problems . . . but I usually run Pindle using a Frozen Orb Sorceress so I’d better be competent here). Then came the Halls of Anguish and Pain. Both areas were pretty easy to clear (most notably there were even more Frenzytaurs and annoying Blizzard dropping Sextons). Players 1 and 3 were used in those areas. Then onto the Halls of Vaught (a Players 1 area for sure). The Hall of Vaught had an ambush! . . but not by anything really dangerous. The Halls of Vaught had CI Slayers, CI Prowling Dead, and Hell Temptresses (oh great more Blood Mana . . . but really I was pretty excited that I didn’t need to face Nihlathak’s extremely poisonous snakes). Hadriela cleared out the three dead ends and then prepared for Nihlathak. The battle plan was to draw as many of Nihlathak’s minions as possible out one direction, dispose of them, and then proceed to Nihlathak from the other direction. Hadriela was pretty pleased with the battle plan but wasn’t laughing for long. Everything seemed to be perfect as Hadriela approached Nihlathak (he didn’t have any monsters near him except for some Hell Temptresses) and Hadriela began to spam Frozen Orb when a Suicide Minion spawned and blew up on Azrael and then Nihlathak blew it up  . Hadriela was across the screen from the corpse explosion but it still erased most of her health and mana  . Full Rejuvenation Potion! Teleport! Spam spam Spam Frozen Orb! . . and then Nihlathak dropped dead before he could get another corpse (yikes)!

Returning to the Frozen Tundra was extremely nice (nothing very dangerous had spawned) and Hadriela cleared out the rest of the area at Players 3.

The Infernal Pit couldn’t have been very interesting because I didn’t take any screenshots so let’s get to the good stuff (by the way, if you’re still reading this I’m really impressed).

The Ancients Way had plenty of nasty monsters (Frenzytaurs, Fouldogs, and some Skeleton Mages). Okay, so that doesn’t sound too bad on paper but the Frenzytaurs spawned with some really nasty mods (here’s my favorite, and here’s the runner up). Another problem was that the Ancients Way had plenty of Evil Urns (and I really wanted that full clear). So plenty of evil things were spawed (here’s one of the best . . . note the conviction aura) . . . but there was good news, none of the Evil Urns spawed anything really evil directly on top of Hadriela :whistling: (yeah . . . I probably shouldn’t have touched any Evil Urns but Full Clear OCD had taken hold).

Speaking of Full Clear OCD . . . the Icy Cellar was up next and had one of the most unholy groupings of monsters possible . . . and did I walk away when I had the chance (hahaha . . . oh no). Hadriela dropped into the Icy Cellar and was dismayed to discover that the entrance/exit was in the center of the area (that seems to make characters very vulnerable in my experience . . . no exception here). Hadriela was then greeted by a great many red orbs coming from her right (oh great Hell Temptresses) . . . so she stepped ahead (out of the path of the orbs) and what should appear but two Dolls (wait! what! I didn’t know Dolls could spawn here)! The Dolls charged Azrael and Hadriela ran to get out of blast range . . . and then two champion Dolls appeared and began attacking Hadriela (oh shoot)! I managed to stay calm and let the champions attack until Azrael disposed of the normal Dolls (at a safe distance) and then tele’d to get the champion Dolls to attack Azrael. Hadriela stepped to a safe distance and used Frozen Orb to send the little buggers to the abyss. Okay, Hell Temptresses and Dolls . . . Hadriela should probably run away and never return . . . but she didn’t. The Hell Temptresses near the entrance were ignored and Hadriela proceeded to the left (where the champion Dolls had come from) and located the rest of the champion Dolls (and unique Doll group plus some Hell Temptresses) . . . no big deal, stay calm (reinsert heart into chest). So, Hadriela cleared the area to the left for some maneuvering room and then proceeded cautiously towards the top . . . and then there was a ton of lighting! Yep! Hell Temptresses, Dolls, and Gloams. So, no doubt, Hadriela should run away and never return . . . but she didn’t. Hadriela had cleared some maneuvering room and was going to use it (or die trying). The top seemed way too hot to handle so Hadriela returned to the entrance and separated and destroyed the Hell Temptress group and then cleared out the bottom (that had next to no Gloams). The right had next to no Gloams also and was cleared next. So, how to handle the top . . . Hadriela decided to attack the top from the center (from the opposite side of the river) but not before defeating a group of mana burning extra fast Doll that had hidden behind the entrance  (reinsert heart into chest). So, Hadriela began to engage the Hell Temptresses and Gloams from across the river (mostly the idea was to separate individuals from the larger group) . . . and it worked! . . but was still extremely dangerous. Mostly one by one the top the monsters at the top were separated (including the uniques . . . and yes, that is a Conviction Gloam  )! Finally the top was pretty much clear except for some Gloams and Hell Temptresses at the very top so Hadriela got (more) dangerous and teleported into a corner and spammed Frozen Orb around the corner. After about forty-five minutes victory was Hadriela’s!

Perhaps needless to say, compared to the Icy Cellar the Ancients were super easy. Hadriela got a lucky spawn (no nasty aura’s, cursed, etc). Madawc was separated and defeated, then Talic and then Korlic (only Korlic was CI so the battle was very short).

The Worldstone Keep Level 1 had CI Vampires, CI Invaders, and CI Spawners (um, that’s a lot of CI’s). However, despite everything being CI, Hadriela really didn’t encounter much trouble (Firewall was now maxed at Level 22 and Azrael was handling everything pretty well). The biggest problem came from a group of Conviction Vampires :\ (that wasn’t even that bad as they separated pretty quickly).

So onto the Worldstone Keep Level 2. Beetles were encountered (great those are easy) but then a different type of lightning came streaming onto the screen. Gloams (not again)! Okay not a big problem, I’m getting pretty good at killing Gloams . . . and then the last monster type appeared (Horadrim Ancients and Gloams . . . why me)?! So, the Worldstone Keep Level 2 was pretty much one big near death (I’ll spare you most of the details and get to the really good part . . . the last dead end). The last dead end on the WSK Level 2 was full of Horadrim Ancients, Gloams, and Beetles that combined had the extra fast mana burn mods plus the Might and Fanaticism Auras  . So the situation was pretty much the same as in Abaddon only instead of a constantly resurrecting skirmishing line of Fallen there was a constantly resurrecting skirmishing line of mana burning Gloams  and instead of Hell Temptress orbs there was a steady stream of Might/Fanaticism enhanced ‘spider missiles’ that Hadriela had to dodge (plus the lightning blasts coming from the Gloams that remained behind the skirmishing line; next to the Horadrim Ancients). (What did I do to deserve this mess)? Anyhow long story short, Hadriela did an absolute ton of dangerous teleporting/dodging to separate the Gloams from the Horadrim Ancients and then proceeded to engage the Beetles and Horadrim Ancients (hmm, that sounded easy on paper . . . it really wasn’t . . . ). Anyhow, after an hour (maybe) . . . the WSK Level 2 was all Hadriela’s.

The Worldstone Keep Level 3 didn’t have anything really dangerous in it (so I used that time to reinsert my heart into my chest . . . though it turned out to be wasted effort as the Throne of Destruction caused my heart to leap out of my chest once more).

The entrance to the Throne of Destruction was an absolute nightmare. Hadriela entered running (good thing too because a salvo from five Gloams nearly ended her story). So great, more Gloams, and then Firewalls started appearing (and they weren’t coming from Hadriela) and then red orbs starting appearing from the opposite direction. (Why me)!? Full Rejuvenation Potion. Full Rejuvenation Potion (and all told, about a second later Hadriela had managed to return to the WSK3 wondering ‘why me’? Well nothing to it . . . she had to try again. Hadriela returned to the Throne of Destruction again dodging a deadly salvo of Gloam lightning, and then began spamming Frozen Orb at the Gloams (as she zig-zag dodged their lightning). The Gloams dropped dead but by this point red orbs, Firewalls, and Meteors had appeared everywhere so Hadriela tele’d to the corner nearest the Vampires and added her Firewall to the mix . . . after a couple of retreats to Malah the CI Vampires and CI Hell Temptresses were defeated. Hadriela had breached the entrance. Clearing the rest of the Throne of Destruction was much more controlled (there were plenty of Gloams and one Fanatic Gloam . . . but what’s new).

Baal’s Minions were the easy part. The Horadrim Ancients resurrected some Gloams (I couldn’t get rid of the corpses) and the Plucked Chickens (led by a FI/CI Lister) forced Hadriela and Azrael out of the central chamber but everything else by the book. So, finally Hadrieal got to battle the big guy . . . but it wasn’t much of a battle. Baal got hit by the Kelpie Snare / Static combo and dropped dead in about a minute.

Baal didn’t drop anything worth getting excited about but Hadriela had already found a new to SP item (Medusa’s Gaze Aegis) . . . so I’m not complaining. Other set/unique drops from Hell Act 5 included: Hellslayer Decapitator, The Patriarch Great Sword, Milabrega’s War Scepter, Langer Briser Arbalest, Wizendraw Long Battle Bow, Angelic Sabre, Lycander’s Ceremonial Pike (another one of these dropped in Hell Act 3 . . . perhaps the game is urging me to make the Fendazon I’ve been wanting to try), Whistan’s Round Shield, Angelic Wings (sure now it drops), and a Stormchaser Scutum. The best rune drop was a Sol Rune (only Hadriela’s second found Sol Rune) . Another pretty high ED rare Colossus Voulge dropped (40ias . . . but not as good ED or LL as the one from Hell Act 2 . . . sigh). Also, a normal Berserker Axe dropped (hey, you never can have enough of those)!

Here were Hadriela’s stats at the end of Hell Act 5.

Guardian Hadriela then entered the Moo Moo Farm and was pleased to see that she didn’t get the portal that drops you next to the Cow King (she’d begun to expect the worst). The Hell Bovine were strong even at Players 1 but Hadriela’s Frozen Orb was stronger (and using the Frozen Orb, Frozen Orb, Tele retreat and repeat plan worked well . . . only an FI/CI unique required extra attention). Hadriela found an Eye of Etlich (and nothing else of interest . . . including at the Cow King).

Here are Hadriela’s final stats.

Last but not least, big thanks to wakiki for creating such a great tournament idea and being such an involved host! . . and thanks to you for reading (I know it was anything but short)!

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

Congratulations Han! Quite a few frightening encounters along the way, but it's great to see that you made it. An extremely impressive accomplishment.

*rereads in greater detail*

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

WHAT! HOW DARE YOU! *shakes fist*

Ah well, back to the drawing board.

:D

Kidding.

Han, I'm truly amazed. Not just for getting Guardian, but for the amazing play. You just totally topped your four-NDE Reliquary post, which I didn't was possible. Dolls, witches, and gloams in tiny, dangerous area? A Conviction Gloam?!? Gloams in the WSK? Gloam stairtrap at the Throne? (By the way, that was good advice to keep moving as you enter those stairs.)

The game threw everything at you (especially Gloams) and you still triumphed! 501 health; not a resist over 50. Well done, sir.

P.S.

If we get more Guardians, then the one with the highest experience will be the current winner, but I'm going to number them as they occur just 'cause I like to keep track. The tournament is still open for anyone to join and win. Speaking of that, welcome to the tournament, Skjoldmose! :)

And also RIP for Jezabelle and Arvon. :(

I normally wait longer to post the table, but for a Guardian I will make an exception :D:

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

Well well well!

Congratulations Hans for making the first Guardian for this tournament! A very impressive Guardian as well, i may add! Awesome work! Is this your first Guardian?

Shortish update on my own progress.

Alice has begun her journey into the jungles of Act 3. We started out in search of the Golden Bird. Usually the first unique or champion pack drops it, right...well, it didn't for Alice! I have had this happen a few times before, but to happen to a character like Alice wasn't very nice. +20 life in a tournament like this is critical! I proceeded to clear out the rest of the Spider Forest and then i tried again. This time p/1, to avoid any significant exp gain. We encountered the first boss pack and Ahsab took him down in 2 hits. I waited to hear the Golden Bird spiral in the air and hit the ground with its distinct and unique sound........but.....nothing! HAH, looks like the D2 gods seem to like playing tricks on me. Ok.... well..... two can play at that game! So I tried again. Third time’s a charm they say and thank god, because it was! The first boss pack we encountered dropped it. Phew! I couldn't fathom proceeding without getting that quest done, especially with a fragile character like Alice!

Before we knew it, Alice hit level 30. I stripped Ahsab of his gear and sent him straight into a hungry mob of flayers. He got toasted by the shamans and fell to the ground. It was now time to unleash the Valkyrie! Oh god....what have I done! Immediately our killing speed diminished astonishingly. Progress went from enjoyable and speedy, to unbearably slow and tedious. A level 1 Valk doesn’t hit very hard at all, especially compared with Ahsab who wielded this! Poor Alice, had to grind her teeth and engage combat a lot more than I would have liked. As a result, many NDE’s have occurred, mainly due to the devastating Inferno’s from the Shaman’s. I really need to level quickly and boost up my Valk!

Despite this set back, there has been some positive news for Alice, as she managed to find Sander’s gloves in the Flayer Jungle. These are possible end game worthy, if worst comes to worst. +40 Life and 20%IAS is nothing to cough at. I stashed them for now as I prefer my Heavy Gloves of Fortune (23%) :greedy:.

Next up is Lower Kurast.

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

Congrats Hans on making it to Guardian!! Although I also hate you for beating me to it... :whistling: But that's some might fine playing!

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

@Han - Well done. Gratz on the Guardian

@Morathi - Nice drop. Sanders gloves have served DeadTwo extremely well throughout nightmare.

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

@Han Congrats on making Guardian (especially on the full clear)!

RIP "Certain Death" I guess (not the tournament - its name). You'll have to make it harder next time, wakiki. Maybe not for me though :whistling:

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

Congratulations, Han! A truly remarkable achievement!

I regret though that you have to be disqualified from the Certain Death competition on the grounds that you did not die in the Icy Cellar. Sorry buddy but them's the breaks :)

Very well done!

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

RIP to our fallen friends, I've not seen such an attrition rate in a tourney.

I have some good news regarding WitherBow, which is not quite on the scale of Han's Guardianship :) but is a milestone for me. Yes, WitherBow is a Conqueror, with all the responsibilities and privileges this confers.

I managed to keep my full clear going throughout Act 5 Nightmare, despite how nervous the Drifter cavern and the Icy Cellar makes me (not to mention Abaddon, Infernal Pit and that other one). There was a moment in Pindle's garden where I was sure I would die. It didn't matter how many arrows I fired, none of the corpses would shatter! Oh ... you are firing Magic Arrows, not Ice Arrows? OMG. D'oh. Once the correct switch was selected, we were in business.

A decision was made a while ago to put one point in Guided Arrow - why this wasn't part of my initial skill plan, I cannot tell you. Needless to say, it is proving invaluable in certain situations (indeed, it was the death of Diablo) and helped me a lot through Act 5.

To business - my Icy Cellar monster roll wasn't anything like as epic as Han's. I did roll the first and only Gloams I'd yet seen since The Swampy Pit. I don't recall ever having such a Gloamless act before. The Act could have ended prematurely for Witherbow if we hadn't have seen this crew before they saw us, and manoeuvred them to a favourable location. They fell like ducks at a shooting gallery. Ducks with lots of HP.

The WSK was inhabited by Gloams on Level 1, but the other monsters were not fierce. WSK 1, 2 and 3 fell in quick succession. After a bit of deliberation, the Throne Room was cleared of minions at Players 5. One or two squeaky moments occurred when I started picking up loot before I had actually killed off the whole of Ventar's group - not once, but three times I had to run like hell as a straggler suddenly warp-speeded his way up to me. Greedy WitherBow - wait for it! Lister was joke. I had been dreading him and now, I was laughing too hard to shoot straight.

On to Baal himself ... my first foray ended with Baal, his clone and more tentacles than you can see in the Humboldt Current during the squid breeding season. I was lucky to escape, with three Full Rejuvies spammed without me being conciously aware of having drunk them. Portalling back in, the Clone had vanished but it was once again Tentacle City and out I portalled. Third time's a charm, and the 'Zon is in the Zone. I was spamming Freezing Arrow, interspersed with Guided Arrow whenever Baal moved or teleported. The idea was to keep the damage on him and try to interrupt his spell frenzies. I'm not sure if that works, but it made me feel like I had some control of the situation. A couple more Juvies were sunk, one last trip back to Town to restock Mana pots when Baal was slivered and we got this. More importantly, I got this for the very first time in my D2 career.

Players 5, full-clear throughout, except for /P1 for Baal. I feel great! Now, let's not do anything stupid in the Cow Farm.

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

@Han: Amazing. Sounds like you have some great driving skills to avoid gloams, the witch blood stars, stair traps, and then the conviction gloam. Congrats on a no-vitality Guardian.

@Loz Congrats on the Conqueror. Best of luck with the Cows and Hell.

Ok, so a Guardian and Conqueror. As good a time as any to announce my achievement. A lowly Destroyer. Finally, with my 3rd try this tourney, I made it. This is my first HC destroyer ever. I typically play SC.

Baal dropped Dark Clan Crusher and Hsaru's boots. Also a decent rare light plate that I gave to my A2 merc. Visited the MooMoo Farm, then ventured into nightmare and cleared the Blood Moor and Den. War Cry is doing around 200 damage now, so this guy will be doing less and less melee and I go further.

Re: The Certain Death Tournament.

Congratz to Freddie Mercury on reaching Nightmare. I remember my first Destroyer, it was a big, big buzz. :)

Mini-update from me.

The Cows were dead easy at Players 5, although the choice of where to put the portal was a little unusual, in my experience.

Major gear selection issues for Hell ... I did have a nice tri-res Blood Craft Plate Mail in mind initially, but in the end opted for a 2os Light Plate socketed with Smoke. The 50% res-all really is too good to ignore, for a bowazon that struggles with resistances. And, oh yeah, 20% FHR - I must go and check the breakpoints again, to see if I can junk one of my FHR charms.
I tried a couple of times to craft a better helmet, but couldn't improve on current gear. Both times, the lowest possible number of affixes were applied, with junk mods on the whole. :(

The 24DR, +1 Passive/Magic Amulet has been relegated to pre-buff duty again, thanks to a Blood Craft Amulet that I couldn't equip in Nightmare (resists too high!). How's this?

Corruption Torc
Amulet
Required Level: 32
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 56
Fingerprint: 0x6e4df490
+10 to Life
Fire Resist +22%
Lightning Resist +27%
Cold Resist +21%
3% Life stolen per hit
7% Faster Run/Walk

Hell is being tackled currently at Players 3, and is proving to be a little tricky. The Valk is struggling against boss packs, a lot of cold immunes render my most damaging skill nearly useless and enemies take a lot of arrows to knock down. I'm doing things a little differently this time around, tackling the Mausoleum and Crypt before I kill Blood Raven and Cold Crow, in the Hole. I figure the chance of levelling sooner rather than later will help against the tough challenges that lie on my doorstep.

WitherBow, MS/FA Bowazon, Level 74, Mausoleum (Hell)

ps. I forgot a bit of text when I reported on Baal's defeat in Nightmare. There is a clue in a couple of the screenshots in that post as to what I forgot to mention ...
