The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

Nice account sutek. I'm gearing up for my first encounter with the ubers. After you bring in your barb to BO, do you leave him in the game to hold it open, or leave to keep the monster HP at players 1?

I'll be able to get most of my budget gear, but still need to level up a barb for BO. I was considering trying it without a BO, but after reading this I think I will wait :)

From my experience, BO is not strictly necessary, but it is safer to have. There are a couple of times when I forgot to party up with the barb for BO, so there was really no effect. I only realized the mistake after I had already completed the run. So it is more a psychological thing. Taking the barb out of the game does make the run go a little faster. Just make sure that you have enough resists against Mephisto and concentrate on the ubers. The only real danger I can see is that you don't do enough damage to kill the ubers quickly and get over-run by the minions.

great guide. I did ubers solo for the first time today with so so gear that concentrated more on resists atm than damage: guil's face (um), duress RW, Black RW in devil star, Sanctuary in 35 res pally shield, Dracs, tgods, gores, Highlords, Soj, Ravenfrost and several res charms. For only being lvl 83 it wasn't so bad. Did have a few deaths to the vile witches when going to Lilith as well as to some of the mobs surrounding the ubers themselves. But it paid off when I picked up a pally torch with so so stats.

how much res should I be going for? I have coh, 25 maras, tgods and a ravenfrost, would I be fine with putting an um in a ss?

I would think that upped HOZ is a much better shield for a smiter than SS. Physical damage is not really a big concern in UT. Put an UM in there you should be fine. Also, put a point in salvation for Uber Mephisto. Its conviction aura is like -125% resist.

I also wouldn't really stress too much about upping the HoZ, 94.72% of your damage will come from CB anyways. Tho i would certainly Um / PDia it.

I do have a question now that I've gotten a little more experience with moderated gear and uber tristram. Which would be a more preferred armor overall for this build, fort or CoH?

In my experience fort is the best armor for a uber smiter by far, while it doesn't have the high resists coh has, it does have great damage and defense bonuses which are very useful to any type of melee orientated build.

I actually like good ole guardian angel. It is cheap, increases your chance of blocking, and max resists which make you virtually immune to elemental damage with some sorb. And plus one skill on top of all that.

+1 to Guardian Angel

I know half the fun of D2 is to stack your toon out in the most god-imba-epeen-shizz that you can, but a GA will do the job and then some. Doing UT with 90@ is safer than safe, your CB does ~95% of the killing anyways and +2 skills on CoH doesn't really benefit a smiter that much. You just need the charms / salv aura to get the best out of your GA.

In summary tho, like the rest of PvM once you get past a certain gear level it's all preference, there are no right/wrong answers. Like Joe I prefer a GA :)

Very good guide. I used it with success to do UT for the first time ever on my Smiter, but it was a little rough.

He's using the following items:

Guillaume's Face - clean for now
Duress MP
Thundergod's
Dracul's
Gore Rider's
Redeemer - only +88 damage, meh, also clean for now, going to socket with Shael I suppose
Metalgrid - 32@
Rare ring with 113 AR, 6% LL, 18 str, 4 replen life, 10% lightning res and 1 MPK
Raven Frost - 20 Dex
CtA/BO Spirit on switch
Charms - a few resist ones, but not too many.

I also prebuff with Treachery and use a Life Tap wand to start the fight

My biggest problem is not resistances, as I am maxed out with Fade+Salvation against Mephisto, but rather lack of mana. Something in there seemed to have mana drain, is it always like that? I had big trouble keeping even enough mana to continuously Smite away.

EDIT: Swapping that rare ring out for Carrion Wind seemed to help. Damage taken goes taken to mana is handy to prevent you from drying out. The passive poison resistance also helped against Lilith, no need to prebuff Treachery then.

This is a great guide!!! :)
Very informative and the different items for different levels of wealth was really useful.
thanks heaps :)

Great guide, made some first runs with it, but I have one problem - cursed monsters (Vile Witches and Knights), these can bring me down pretty fast with Amp Damage sometimes with Deceptify, but it's not so painfull as Amp). So every time I see room fool of such monsters I have to go back while they come 1-3 and I can kill em pretty safe, do anyone have suggestion about this(not teleport or friend sorc plz, it's quite piss me off to ask my friend with every uber so I prefer doing em solo)?

P.S. My stuff: Gulierme, Treachery,Grief, all res amu, all res ring, raven, Sanctuary, gore, and 11% damage reduction belt. I have 1050 hp so with amp bosses need just 2 successfull hits and I'm dead, other monsters kill me pretty fast if they are enough count.

Are you using verdungo's or String of Ears? You didn't mention Drac's, but I'm going to assume you have it. String of Ear's can help with life leech problems. Those witches can be a big problem for early level uber runners. I would recommend leveling up a bit(85 is a magical level in which monsters seem to hurt less), then upgrading your gear a bit. Try to get a Mara's, Bul Kathos Ring, Herald of Zakarum. Respec and squeeze as many points into Vitality as you can while maintaining max block(shouldn't be hard if you use Grief Phase Blade). Last, try to get a CtA on switch. The Battle Orders makes a HUGE difference in survivability in uberlands.

This guide did wonders for me as I just returned back to the game recently and went extra-cautious before opening that final portal...

I used:
Grief Phase Blade with Exile
CtA / Spirit
CoH
Dracs
Gore Riders
T-gods
RavFrost and I think a really low Wisp
Mara's

Everything went pretty smoothly until Meph's minions trapped me along a stone wall and I couldn't hit the stupid Ghoul Lords...an invent full of full rejuvs were probably my best friend and like 3-4 antidotes.

Got a low nec torch but the process now feels very familiar thanks.

This guide is pretty awesome I must say read it and switched a few things around accordingly and now my smiter is doing much better in Uber trist.

Thanks

Hi guys, im very new to this forum but interested in this build.

Currently im lvling a new smiter just for this build, but i have some questions when it comes to the gears involved.

Firstly i have only 1 of the following rune, Ber, Sur, Lo, Ohm, Vex and 2 or more of the following Gul, Ist, Mal, Um, Pul. Tons of the lower runes.

My concern is mainly about the weapon, shield and armor involved
Should i go for
1)Grief, COH, Exile
2)Grief, COH, HoZ (Pdia)
3)XXX, Forti, Exile or HoZ

Secondly, i need some comments on deciding between CoH or Fort armor for ubers. Is the 200% EDmg to Demons or the 300% ED from fort better?

Lastly note that i have zero prior exp with ubers and this char is needed for ubers. So i really hope that this char will be able to clear UT on solo.

This is a great guide but I have a few questions. First, Is this build good for anything else other than Uber Trist runs? As in, can it MF well or solo Hell baal well, etc.? That was actually my only question now that I think of it. Great guide!

I've only got experience with the +Damage setup in this guide (the bottom-last setup in the first post), and I can tell you that it's a breeze to solo ubers with it. So for your main concern, I'd advice you to go with Grief, Forti and Sanctuary. It makes killing ubers a walk in the park for sure. If you're playing single player it might be a problem for you though since you only have 1 Lo rune? I'm sure switching Forti for CoH would work very very well too though.

This is a great guide but I have a few questions. First, Is this build good for anything else other than Uber Trist runs? As in, can it MF well or solo Hell baal well, etc.? That was actually my only question now that I think of it. Great guide!
You can solo the whole game with ease with this build. It kills fast and you pretty much can't die unless you do something moronic... like stop killing (leeching). For MF you want to go a more classic MF char/build though, 'cause for this one to shine you can't really replace much of it's equipment with MF equipment, at least not enough to get a decent MF % going.
