The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

I would say Guillaume's is a must in this build. Yes it's common, cheap and you look ugly compared to CoA, but if you can afford this kind of things I would keep with crushing blow on guillaume's and use Grief instead of Lw.

I really don't see the point in Enigma for this build... CoH is the best option in my opinion.

Great Guide! I am currently in the midst of making one. I just had a couple of questions about my gear.

Weapon: Grief pb 15ed/40 ias/400 dam. Pwn

Gloves: I have some nice crafted ones 20ias/10CB/5ll along with some other mods.

Shield: Evexile 1818 def with 45 resist all.

Boots: I am thinking either upped gores or Goblin toe. Which is better?

Armor: I have a 1668 fort. 15 enhanced defense. 28 resist. I also have a ap CoH. Which do you think is better to use?

Helm : I have a CoA 2os and a Guil's face. I was thinking of putting a 15ias/15res in the Guil's face? But which is better to use?

Then for the rest of my gear I dunno. Should I go with metalgrid or maras or what for my ammy? Same with my rings: it seems that a 20 dex raven is a must for a pb and then what else? A wisp or some sort of moded ring but with what mods or a soj? Could use some suggestions for a belt as well. Also, what should I fill my inventory up with? I heard pcombs werent as effective and 20lifer/5resist scs were. Is that what I should do? I am thinking of just doing ubers and pvm, but might want to duel. I dunno yet so i would like to hear what GG gear I should have. Thanks guys!!

Oh and what should my merc have? Since I am a mele, I was thinking of a ranged merc with faith? What do you guys think? What other gear should that merc have if they have faith?

Unless you are pretty sure that you can keep your merc alive, I say don't bother about the merc.

Grief = ok

Gloves = ok fair enough. Not many better slots but I like Bloodfist for more FHR in case I get swarmed by mobs. That HP can be BOed as well.

Exile = life tap covered. Def won't matter since most of the mobs in there are casters.
Make sure you keep your dex in check because Exile Vortex has crap blocking compared to HoZ or a Sanctuary pala shield.

Boots = Gorerider I don't see why you wanna up them anyway. Most of the mobs there are casters so additional def means poop.

Guil face = checked. Put an ED IAS jewel with resist and ya gold.

Fort or COH = Both do fine. Def rarely matters in Trist due to large amount of casters. Also the mobs are like level 110+ ? They will hit no matter what just due to level differences.

I say go with the one with the most resist if you need that first. If you can still cap out your resist even when under Meph aura, stick with Fort. Alternatively you can prebuff fade with Treachery. Then use Fort or use COH for MASSIVE overstacked resists.

1st Ring = Ravenfrost.
2nd Ring = whatever you want. Manald heal. Rare dual leech, craft leechers whatever.
Personally, I used Carrion Wind in there for the chance of twisters, which is quite hilarious for regular PvM.

Belts = Many choices. I went with Dungos, some went with IK, some Tgods, I even know a few who went with Credendum (dual stats and 15% resist all).

If you got resist covered you can go vit with Dungos. If your resist still hurt, get IK (for lighting and fire), Credendum (for omni resist) or Tgods (max light resist and some sorb). I hate Tgods chance for FOH though, screws up Smite and my life tap leeching.

Alternatively any godly rare or blood craft, you need more chance of open wounds anyway.

Amulet = Anything. I went with Highlords though. For the deadly strike boost. IAS certainly does not hurt. Factor in DS from Guil face, Highlords, Gores and Grief.... You are talking about massive damage when zealing during normal PVM as well.

As for charms, fill it up with resists charms or stats. Lifers are alright but once lifetap kicks in, it might not matter so much. With a full belt of Full rejuvs, 1.5K+ hp and max 75% resistances, you can keep tanking the nukes until life tap kicks in.

Skillers charms don't matter. Anni and Hellfire SHOULD not be in your inventory since it is a pain to pick up torches if ye are alone. No point putting Gheeds as well, the mobs drop nothing. :p

Okay, here's my gear, comments are welcome, remember I don't have endless riches. :)

Helm: Guillaume's, I socketed it with a plain 15 IAS jewel
Armor: I made Duress in a 3sox AP, it has FHR, CB, OW and some resists, can't afford Forti or CoH yet, though Forti certainly is on my list...
Weapon: Selfmade Grief PB
Shield: Sanctuary with a total of 105@ in a Sacred Rondache, do have money for a low HoZ if needed...
Boots: Gores, obviously
Gloves: Dracul's, obviously
Belt: T-Gods, for lightsorb, also have IK and Dungo available
Amu: I am doubting between Highlord's and Metalgrid (34@) here, have both
Ring 1: Raven
Ring 2: Raven or rare leech ring, don't have much else, maybe dwarf here to complete sorb for every element?

I feel like I'm missing that final punch to make him really good, also for usual PvM.

I have exact same setup went with Metalgrid for res, I honestly have no issues with this setup. I also have life tap wand on switch until dracs kick in but apart from that no issues. The grief is awesome in pvm

If my highest str. req for my gear is Gore Riders and Spirit (in switch), 156 points.
Should I take 156 points in Str when I'm completely nude of gear and charms, or should I as I am now depend on my + attributes on other gear and charms (Annih, Torch) etc?

As it is now, I somehow did bug it all and people can't see my gear even though I wear it.

Will this gear be able to solo uber tristram?

Helm: Guillaume's 'umed'
Armor: Duress
Weapon: Black Flail
Shield: Zaka
Boots: Gores
Gloves: Dracul's
Belt: T-Gods
Amu: Highlords
Ring 1: Raven
Ring 2: Carrion Wind

How could I improve this for cheap?

Thanks,

Thanks for the guide!

With the following 'cheapish' setup I can easily kill the ubers... its really silly how easy they are to beat with a smiter. I havnt played since 1.10 really, and then I used a frenzy barb to kill ubers with much more expensive gear, and this is a cakewalk compared to the barb.

Guillames Face
Lightsabre
Sanctuary in a Sacred Targe
Duress (with a treachery for prebuff)
Dracul's
String of ears
Goblin Toe
Mara's / Ravenfrost / Dwarf Star
random life and resist charms

I had read to switch to sanctuary for Meph, and also a lower resist wand.. I havn't needed to use either in 3 attempts so far. It would be nice to have a higher damage setup for clearing the way to lillith and Izual, but its doable... just takes a few minutes.

Fancy expensive gear is just not neccessary if all you need to do is kill the ubers. I havn't had the oppurtunity to kill dclone yet, but im sure it will be a snoozefest.

Charms________39 inventory slots are taken with a motley assembly of charms totaling 10% FR, 29% LR, 2 STR, 7 mana and 423 life. The 40th slot is empty
Stash_________A cube (holding the eye, brain and horn to open the portal to Uber Tristram), the second crown helm, the backup armor and four small life charms. Every other slot is filled with Fat Purples

so, yes. you'll be able to get through Trist with your proposed gearselection.

I was just using http://diablo3.ingame.de/tips/calcs/weaponspeed.php?lang=english and it seems that smite hits the final breakpoint at 65-70 IAS? If thats the case than all it takes is Grief, Highlords and 5-15% IAS from a jewel or gloves to reach the final BP and you could run with a salvation aura in UT to cover resists. Or is poison resist still a heavy requirement?

Most people just run Salv for UberMeph and don't care about the slight attack speed drop. This + Treachery prebuff should cover the resists when coupled with an average pvm Smiter/Zealot setup.

Just did my first ever run of UT. I guess my gear is decent but my resists were sub-optimal, need to make myself a Sanctuary once I can get my hands on a @40-45 shield. The hardest part for me was AFTER I'd killed all 3, I got surrounded by pit lords and ghosts; The ghosts kept draining all my manna and I was chugging fat purples to stay alive so I could fight my way to the torch. In my haste I forgot that I could have simply used S&E. As for the torch it was... less than optimal (10/17 druid) but it has sentimental value for being my first self-found torch.

Grief +dmg does not show up in Zeal / Smite damage. But not like it matters much anyway.
It is the Crushing blow that drops the uber hp fast.

First of all, thanks for the excellent guide. This post is to describe my first attempt at the ubers.

I'm a hardcore D2 player who up until today has never seen uber tristram. For a long time I played nothing but sorcs, and would struggle to make it to hell. I don't know how many times I died over the years, but it's been plenty. I was the hot-headed sorc who sacrificed resists for magic find, and always paid the price.

After many deaths I slowly started learning what was going to get me in trouble, and was able to get to hell more frequently, and stay in hell games longer without dying. I used to have only one account, and would mule items in public games, often leaving them in the cold plains near the portal there. From this method of muling I was able to save up some runes from the hellforge drops, even though my main characters kept dying. Being able to save the hellforge runes this way helped me immensely, as I was able to trade them for things like shako and occulus to keep my ever-dying sorcs going.

About a year ago I read about the ubers and decided I wanted to try to get to them. I started playing paladins a bit, and didn't like them at all. I also played summon necros because I thought that was the only way I could farm the keys on act 5.

I started gearing up a 1pt smiter before the previous patch, and died to that aura that damages you when you hit something (the aura that was removed in 1.13). It's an aura that I'd never encountered before as a sorc, and after this I disliked paladins even more.

Anyway after 1.13 came out I decided to try again, and as of this afternoon my preparation was finally finished. I had all the keys, finally was able to buy a life tap wand, and had farmed 20 or so full rejuv pots. I also had a level 70 barb on my other pc to give me some much needed extra life (total health was around 3.2k)

Anyway, here is the gear I used:

Level 85
lightsabre weapon
duress
guillaume's face with um
maras
HoZ upgraded with um
draculs grasp
thundergod's vigor
gore riders upgraded
dwarf star
raven frost

My inventory was full of a combination of life and resist charms (nothing special, a few 20 life scs).

The first task for the mini ubers was easier than I had been expecting. My act 1 defensive merc (defiance aura) stayed alive almost until the end despite having average gear (normal shaftstop, vampire gaze and bonehew). He ended up tanking the minions while I smited the mini-ubers. I fed him full rejuv pots twice against one of them.

Without pause I opened the portal to tristram, and headed to the top of the screen to lure out mephisto. Her minions were spawning on me but I ran away from them and went to smite her, without using my life tap wand. I was planning on using it at first, but decided against it after realising that it takes a bit of getting used to swapping weapons. I couldn't do it well in practise (ended up smiting bosses with my wand equipped), so decided to skip it. A number of times my life dropped alarmingly low and I ended up using 2 rows of rejuv pots. I guess I should've switched to salvation but I forgot about that amidst all the action. I think I was too busy looking a my health bar empty and fill, empty and fill. Half way through I realised that in real life my heart was pounding! It was pretty exciting stuff. Fortunately life tap kicked in reasonably quickly from the gloves, and after that it was just a matter of watching meph's life slowly drop. It seemed to take a long time but really it was probably only 20 seconds or so.

As soon as she died, I ran back to town without hitting the minions, added more pots from my stash and ran away to the bottom right of the screen. I wasn't sure where Diablo and Baal were located exactly, and ended up pulling them both together. First of all I hit Baal and meanwhile I became totally surrounded by monsters. Diablo was draining my mana and my health kept dropping quite low. Without the extra life from my barb I would've died many times, but life tap was just enough to keep bringing me back to full. Towards the end I started to realise that I was probably going to survive!
I'd read that people sometimes died from the minions after killing the bosses, so after killing Baal and half way through Diablo I decided that I would simply pick up the charm and quit the game. However, things weren't going to be so simple, because I'd forgotten to leave some space in my inventory - oops! Anyway, Baal did end up dying and I was surrounded by mobs. Not confident with the situation, I exited.

Coming back into the game I freed up some space and was able to divert the minions and claim my reward. The torch was a 14/14 necro one.. not bad!

Anyway, thanks to this guide I no longer dislike paladins quite as much. If I ever find a Lo I'm going to make grief runeword for sure, but I can't see that happening any time soon.

Even with my current weapon I can't wait to try again. I'm hoping for a sorc torch :-)
