Just "Yep" is what I'd say if I did not have to extend my message so that it conforms to the 10 character minimum. So I'm gonna say 4 Amazons, 2 Necromancers, a Druid and 3 Assassins. 10 chars. :badteeth:

Hearing my Pally say "I need a key" counts as activated, right? :badteeth:

I laughed on this one. But less once it was added that the chest must be opened. For me, it was attempted, and that's enough, but ok... :s

As for my own character, well I'm going softcore, as I never managed to get a hardcore char any further than act 2. And it wasn't Duriel, it was just that I get too scared, and end up dieing instead of punching monsters in their faces and outliving them... Also, I'm going to try one of the characters I never played before. A vengeance paladin. I'm still hesitating between a two-hand or a one-hand plus shield version. Both look good on paper. I'll have to see what I can find on the way.

Vein started out by being deleted after not finding the darn chest in the bloodmoor, then being re-created, and only finding a regular chest in a house. So be it.

The I found the cold plains waypoint, quite easily (like any other character...).

Then came the fun fun fun part of getting to corpsefire and putting the first hit in. That's the painful moment where I realized I had put /p8 on, just by habit. Oh, and getting mobbed too..

It's quite impressive how Holy Fire, even at level one, is very good all through act 1. I just got Holy Freeze, and it's very fun, and vengeance is cool. Eventhough normal attack is better at the moment, due to lack of big hurty weapon. Less mana... :) I like it, I like it.

I think you should stay in the tournament NF. You acted before rule clarification and the things you did aren't that severe that you'd have to abandon this.

Maybe NF just doesn't like hammerdins, and wanted a reason to change characters... ;)

(level 21, just did some rune hunting at countess. p1, ignoring all other mobs. fun running through packs that way ! even had a NDE :D. All that for Ancient's Pledge... Also got my cube, can finally lower the gem count !)

Gonna wait and see what the Host has to say. I'm fine playing on or dropping out, no hard feelings either way.

I hate paladins in D2, especially hammerdins. But for this tourney it's a decent build. I wouldn't get much out of the stealth parts if I had howl or teleport and planning for p8 ancients without rerolls and p8 lister leaves only so many builds...

Some more time with jacinta tonight (well, this morning really). Not much to report, other than getting stuck and not being able to move my character, which is usually fixable by TPing out. Strangely, I had no TP scrolls in my tome, so it was a S+E job.

Evelyn gambled herself some chain boots and kicked her way up the countess' tower, bagging an eth rune rune for her troubles. Will probably run a few more times tonight for a tal and make everyones favourite runeword.

Is it wrong that im considering running countess enough to cube an amn to make strength?

@Ojimijam: The tourney allows rerunning (unless you decide to go single-pass), so I would consider that planning ahead, rather than cheesy. But you might want to reconsider anyway, since Countess can't drop higher than Ral in normal, and it takes 27 Rals to cube an Amn. If she drops about 1 Ral per 5 runs (I have no idea if this is an accurate guess), then you'll need to run her over 120 times, which is at least 2 hours of countess runs if you can do them in one minute each.

Regarding Nightfish (mostly directed at our gracious host):

I think he should stay. The chest thing is completely irrelevant; having a key in the inventory would not have made the slightest difference. He acted in full accordance with the rules at the time, and the rule change since then is so utterly slight that it would be impossible to argue that NF's character has any advantage from it (not that we would care, anyways). The S&E issue is a bit different. I would like to hear some guidance regarding that, but I have no problem at all with NF's character staying and having a second go at things once some clarification is given. Trying now is no different than trying the first time -- it will be just as difficult, assuming a fresh map.

Alright, then I guess I'm out. I did kill stuff without actually opening the chest. (Also I had to S&E in the Dark Passage, as mentioned above, that was probably a no-no as well).

Nightfish, I misunderstood. I thought you were asking me a hypothetical question about not carrying a key - not a question about an actual scenario that had already happened.. To me this issue seemed awfully lawyerly, which is why I said you were all a bunch of lawyers. I would never create an additional rule restriction after it has already occurred in the tournament . Given that the original rules never mentioned this and it does not materially detract from the activity, I withdraw the rule.

Teleporting back to town is NOT banned during Survival Labors except where it is stated. Teleoprting back to town was intentionally allowed during the Dark Passage Labor. The rules as stated do not address S&E in Survival Labors.

Nightfish, you have done nothing to disqualify yourself. You have gotten out in front of others and exposed some minor ambiguities in the rules. YOu are certainly welcome to continue playing.

No, not at all (as Ancagalon said.) By design, the tournament requires that you be powerful early and often. The Hell Ancients task requires that you be powerful in the end game, but the Normal Duriel task requires that you be powerful in the beginning. So, do everything you can to make your character as powerful, stealthy and invulernable as possible. There is no shame in cubing an Amn in A2.

Alright, then I guess I'm not out after all. So, to recap my recent exploits.

Killing Diablo with Wirt's Leg took some doing. Again, my plan was to get crushing blow and make things work that way. But, of course, no crushing blow item dropped, and that includes 50 Coldcrow runs for a Rixot's Keen / Knellstriker. So I was like: Screw that. Hammertime cleared the chaos sanctuary pretty easily, even on p8, I forget whether or not I thought to go back to p1 for diablo, probably not. My merc got stuck somewhere but that was okay. He's sucks vs diablo anyway. So, I went about whittling him down with hammers. As you can imagine, between the lightning hose and the fire storm, I had my fair share of NDEs. A couple times I went back to other parts of the chaos sanctuary to snag some potions from the seal bosses. As big D was getting low on life, I started working with the Leg. That gave me about twice as many NDEs as I'd had before. At this point I regretted not keeping all the elemental damage charms. Few are the days when a 1-5 fire damage charm would double your DPS. Either way, I got him so low that you could no longer see any red in his life bar and then... MY FREAKING MERC RUNS UP FROM BEHIND AND KILLS HIM. YOINK!!! KILLSTEAL, BEEEOOOOTTTCCHHHH!!! PWNED!!! **** you Razan! **** you to Hell! Where were you the entire fight? How come you get unstuck just now? Still, I remember reading "an honest effort has to be made to deal the killing blow with the leg" and I've gone FAR beyond that here.

Onwards to the Drifter Cave. As I've already outlined, that went pretty well except for "I need a key!". For Pete's sake, dude, you got hammers, why do you need keys? Anyway, that was relatively easy, all in all. Nearly got stuck once in the passage above the drifter cave but vigor solved.

For the lulz of it I tried to get Lister on P8 in normal to prepare for later. That was *not* easy. Small wonder with a whooping +0 to skills.

The underground passage, I've already discussed at some length, but I cannot stress enough how awesome escaping from that deathtrap of a room with 50+ monsteres in it was. And it's not like it was a big room. There was barely enough space to navigate and try to avoid getting stuck. Not to mention being cursed and chased by might aura monsters does neat things to one's pulse. Too bad I had to abandon that effort a little later, second one went by without any hiccups, though. I think I'll refrain from using conversion in any of the survival labors. Escaping with vigor is more fun.

Andy gave me no problems, onwards to act 2:

Oh my sweet jumping jesus can Fire Towers take a beating or what? I actually had to abort that task because after 10 minutes of wailing on the damn thing I still didn't get anywhere. What the fudge? o.O I've now gone and upgraded my Merc's Bloodthief to expectional and I'll go park my hero in a safe spot and let him whittle the damn tower down. I don't know if the things would heal when I go back to town and my mana pool is so small that I cannot really get those things dead with hammers anyway. I'd probably burn all my money on blue liquor.

Glad you could stay NF, I am not looking forward to that experience with Diablo, especially with what will likely be a 10% CtH! I dis start yesterday and made it through blood raven, I don't know how the heck it happened but it actually took me 22 attacks to land a hot on corpsefire! Fortunately the blocking formula is HAXOR for a level 1 character, so I had 75% block, but man that was insane! I also had a real hard time taking out blood raven and ended up hitting up the crypt first to get to level 9 so that I could buy a merc first.

A merc getting the killing blow on Normal Diablo is pretty impressive actually, probably never happened to me before!

Doubly so if you consider he was using a regular bloodthief which does like 10-20 damage or something. That bugger has the devil's own luck for last hits. Goddamn killstealer! Ban plx! Oh well, he has since been replaced by a holy freeze merc.

And now I'm out after all. Unfortunate combination of overpowered hammers and stygian dolls exploding in rapid succession. Guess it's not hammer time after all. :badteeth:

Guess this goes to show that I really don't do untwinked well anymore. Don't have the patience to do runs for stuff I've found a bajillion times before anymore.

Nightfish, very sorry it was Deeds for your Hammer dude.

Obviously, you are a very well known very skillful player. Reading your expereinces as your pioneered this tournament is a little harrowing. Part of me is thinking "OMG what have I done?"

I really am not one of the better players in the forum so I expect I personally will not get far, but there are some other very good players who have signed up. We'll see how they do.

Regarding Wirt's Leg: There is no rule against imbuing a Wirt's Leg (if you can - I don't remember.). However, if you up the leg I believe it will become a plain Hand-Axe. If it is not labeled as Wirt's Leg, then it will not count.
