Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge

Sat down and logged in some well over-due hours at Diablo. Got distracted with a little old game called Fallout2... Anyway Ignatow battled his way through Act4 in what was definately the biggest challenge I've had yet in this tournament. My first concern was a weapon, and I had to augment some gear and get enough strength to use a decent weapon. It didn't have the greatest damage, but it had 8% leech, and nice durability, and it served its purpose for this character.

Had my first near death of the tournament coming into the City of the Damned. Encountered a pretty big roadblock just before the River WP, too. Damn all creatures that spawn smaller, more annoying creatures - especially when two such things are paired together on the same map. Got surrounded several times by bugs and wyrms, but Ignatow survived. Almost bought it again in the Chaos Sanctuary, but slow and steady won this race.

Ignatow has been sent on and HD is geared up and ready to go... I have to say the sudden dropout in this tournament has spurred a new desire to continue playing. Less people make it more exciting, longer odds to dodge the loaded chamber...

@ Gabriel: I saw that you finished act 5, but I have not received the character yet. No rush... I still have a ton of work to do on Lowell.

And no, your bonus items weren't rigged... totally random :badteeth:

Freekje.....very sorry to hear about you and Jarrell:sad2:

I was last to send him on his merry way alive, so I can say some words myself.

He was a fine performer for me, as well, in act 4 NM. I had grave reservations about his abilities vs Fire Immunes in Hell, though. In fact, I thought he'd be a bomb for someone there. Kind of surprised to hear it was earlier. But, you never know in Hardcore.

I realized it was fruitless for me to try and up Hurricane, etc more, at this late stage. So, I just continued to pump Volcano, which worked fine vs Diablo himself.

Rest in Peace, Jarrell.

ok i got a question about the personalization quest. I read back on page 1 it said any item you find you can personalize and keep. Well i was asking because my most useful item is a Ravenfrost i found running baal. I cant personalize, so i
didnt know how it went. I figure i probably cant keep it,

Freekje sorry to hear about your bowing out of the tourney. I guess I won't get to play a Druid at all in this one. Kinda happy though because I don't have much experience with them, but also a little down because I've had a lot of fun with the classes I don't usually play.

Olga has completed Act 5. I'm just waiting to decide what to personalize/socket before passing her on.

@SB: I'm guessing the answer is no, but just curious if we may find out what our added items will be prior to personalization.

Also here's my list of Elite S/U:
Wizardspike
Whistan's Gaurd
Dark Adherent
Laying of Hands

If I need to personalize prior, I'll let you know once I've got it done.

Thanks

This is a very good question. Frankly, I think it's stupid that the game won't let you personalize jewelry. SO...

You may choose a piece of jewelry, if you like, for your personalization reward. To use your personalization reward on a piece of jewelry, please follow the following laborious (but entertaining for the rest of us!) procedure:

1. Post ATMA stats for the jewelry item.
2. Burn up your "real" personalization reward on any cracked/low-quality item, and post the ATMA stats here.

This is merely to prevent later players from noticing that the quest hasn't been completed, and taking illegitimate advantage. Not that anyone would be so nefarious! Plus, it's fun to see personalized crap items :badteeth:

@ Brak: you guessed it, the answer is No!

Everyone has now completed act 4 NM. Therefore...

1. You have until Saturday, 1/13 to complete act 5 NM and pass your character forward.

2. Once you've passed your character forward, I will send your hell reward stash.

3. If you have received your act 1 Hell character, you may begin playing them now. However, please do not send your A1H character forward until I give the go ahead (which will be after *everyone* has completed act 5 NM).

Also, I'm going to be away for a few days on business this week, so I may or may not finish act 5 NM on time with Lowell. (I will try, but tonight is my only day with any real game time until Friday.)

I was just holding my Act 5 char til the go ahead, I hadn't noticed the 'send it on' but may have missed it in all the posts.

It'll be on its way in a couple hours, when I get to work.

Im going to send GertrudeStein to JoeBruce as soon as i finish the personalizing quest.

My experience with Jarrell was in A3 normal and I found him interesting and fun to play. I was curious how he'd do with the many fire immunes in hell but I guess we'll never know now.

He arrived at L26 with the following:

Jarrell, druid, L26
Str 100 Dex 25 Vit 60 E 20
and the skills:
Firestorm 4, Molten Boulder 3, Fissure 15, Arctic Blast 3
Oak Sage 1 Poison Creeper 1

He left at L31 with
Str 100 Dex 25 Vit 90 E 20 (all mine went into Vitality)
and I added 4 points to Fissure and put a point in Cyclone Armor to have
Firestorm 4, Molten Boulder 3, Fissure 19, Arctic Blast 3, Cyclone Armor 1
Oak Sage 1 Poison Creeper 1

I thought that the points in Arctic Blast were a waste from some point earlier in his journey. I did put a point in Cyclone Armor for defence, since I had reasonable +skills and feel naked playing an elemental druid without it. Jarrell's Fissure was plenty strong for Act 3. I hadn't played a fire druid in SP so I read the "Primal Flame" guide to Fire Druids which was excellent. It seemed a Fissure/Molten Boulder build was probably the most promising route for Jarrell's future, as pure Fissure would have problems with Fire Immunes.

Notley sent on to Brak for A1 Hell. Looks like I too won't get to play a Druid in this tournament and I can't claim any malicious actions for Jarrell.

Lowell completed act 5, and was sent on to Milb, after a marathon session yesterday evening. One VERY NDE: I was standing rather close to a FE Lister when he blew (Stupid!), and Lowell's life dipped down to about 15 or so. Eek. Very, very lucky.

Anyway, aside from the dangers of complacency, Lowell has a good shot at Guardian. Strong, if boring, build.

Not ready to send on Ignatow just yet. But, I did want to announce that he's a Conqueror. Figured I'd do that so I could gripe about the 6 rares that Baal dropped. Nice. So, NM Diablo and Baal dropped me nada. What's irritating about Baal is that I only found a Hellplague sword and Vidala's bow through act 5. So, I think I'll hold out a bit longer for my personalization reward, and do some easy Nilhatek, Eldritch, Shenk runs.

Do still have to complete Nilhatek's quest, too.

Edit:

P.S. Raise your hands.......who else likes getting over 10 Oblivian mages in the Throne of Destruction? Yikes. I sure didn't like it when I saw that. The merc died plenty, but I managed to weave my way through, and cleared it out, too.

Hi all,
sad to report that Pound fell victim to a combination of carelessness and IM. I saw OKs in WSK3 and had managed to use my standard tactic of separating out the melee knights and then getting close to the casters. Unfortunately, there was another OK some way off, who cast IM in mid zeal. The rest you know, or can probably guess ...

Shame really, he was a well-made freezealot, who should have gone a lot further.

Stash already sent back to SkunkBelly.

Question: I have the next char file (a sin) already - should I pass it on to the next one ? Or what ?

I'll keep reading the thread, so keep posting :-)

Last, but certainly not least, a big thanks for SkunkBelly for the fine organisation - was a lot of fun. Good luck to those still in.

DelBoy

RIP, Pound! Too bad. I seem to recall liking him.

Yes, waflob, please send that assassin file on to the next player (EJB).

@ everyone: This is most likely my last post until Friday night. If you finish act 5 in the meantime, you'll have to wait until then to receive your bonus item stash. But I'll try to get to them as soon as possible upon my return. Good luck!
