Gambled circlets for 1.5 mil after rescuing Anya and still no +skills for Amazon. And I haven't got a new bow, amulet or a good merc weapon either. When can 5 socketed sticks drop? And what kind should I use for Honor?
The only good thing I found was a Duriel's in the Bloody Foothills. Promptly equiped it. I seem to have rotten luck with finding socketable stuff. I would have prefered a 4 socketed armor for MF in NM.
I've had some strange rune luck. I think I have got 4 Sol, 5 Amn, a Dol, a Shael and a Io from HF ( :( ).

What merc are you Zons out there using? I have a HF one now, but thinking about changing that.

Only on Hell difficulty, but you can socket other types before that.

Any ethereal elite will do, or even ethereal Lance (slow, though) or non-ethreal elites.

But take a moment to think if you can´t do better than Honor...

If you are overflowing with PTopazes and have no 4s armor to put them in, why not try to get 4 sockets with the socketing recipe? I´ve done that more than once. If you try it in a good armor type (lightweight elite or so) you still have some runeword potential there if you happen to get only 2 or 3 sockets in it.

I have no amazon in this tournament, but I have played P&M azamons twice in 1.10. One had a HF merc and one had a fire rogue. You probably want something that can help you do elemental damage, and they can both deliver on that part (with or without elemental damage frpm equipment). If you either have a good valkyrie or is a good tank yourself, you can even consider a Lightning Iron Wolf. They do surpisingly well if you equip them with Faster Cast gear.

Hm. Why not to make a Lore?

Well, my resists are so low, I don't even want to lose the + 8 to all, that are on my current circlet. Plus it's got +50 life, which makes me feel more comfy, too. I'm considering it, though. As soon, as I make a Rhyme, I'll consider it even more. -7 dmg is nice in HC, too.

Farthest Quest: Countess (NM)

I finished up Act 5 and killed Baal. He droped a unique exceptional armor and as I was going to pick it up, but I clicked on the red portal! :o Which promptly ended that game session. Doh! I killed him many more times and didn't get much of value at all really. Likely due ot my 9% MF.

Anyone else hitting a ridiculous rune dearth, like me? At first, I was finding a lot of runes, in Normal. In NM, I am finding none. Zippo, zilch, nada. The only time I find runes, is when I run the Countess. And, the 4 or 5 times I've done it resulted in Els, Elds, and one Ith. I found two Amns, and a Thul, in Normal.

Getting very frustrating, as I've been wanting this Rhyme shield for a long time now, and can't even get high enough runes to try and cube my way to a Shael.

Well I killed blood raven in normal (wow, what an achivement), I'll post a proper update when I have made some proper progress.

Eth is 5, Ith is 6, so both are low.

I had much more trouble with the Blood Lord and Council packs on Durance level 3 than Mephisto himself but still made it fine.

Some questions are occuring to me:

Been meaning to ask you assassins out there about this one. This is the first assassin I've played beyond very early stages. Let's put it this way, never had a Shadow before. I'm getting really irritated, as the diffiuculty is stepping up, when my Shadow Master casts some kind of spell that makes the monster I currently have isolated with Cloak of Shadows suddenly unhittable, and, as I was still swinging away, my hero goes careening off, usually into dangerous areas. Whatever this is puts some kind of tiny tornado(?) over the monsters head. What the heck is this? And, is there any way I can stop her from doing this? I fear this is going to get me killed, sooner or later.

Secondly, being somewhat new to SP, and the maps being preserved, unless you enter a different difficulty with that character, a question just came to mind. I got a pretty good luck, and a quick find of Duriel's lair. But, with the false tombs, I wondered, will the true tomb stay in the same spot, and keep my map for me? Or, will you have to go through part of the quest again, to get an indicator of the true tomb, etc. If this former is the case, I'm not taking this character back to normal, for a long, long time. I didn't like my Tower map, so went to normal and did some things. Went back, and got an awesome Tower map. Now, Duriel's about as good as he could be, too.

Had a third question, but now I forgot it. Doh. I'll be back.

Character Names: Slayer Isolde (& Destroyer Mark)
Character Class: Fire Rogue (assisted by curses-only necro)
Character Levels: 49
Farthest Quest: Blood Raven, NM
Farthest WP: Cold Plains, NM
Game Version: 'vanilla' 1.10 HC
Total MF: +300% for Isolde´s kills, +225% otherwise

Slow but safe progress. That will probably be a theme in NM. I think I know which monsters may be our nemesis: a Possessed, fast, powerful meleer (Frenzytaur or so). I met a Possessed Hungry Dead that did tons of damage. I quickly learned to run away from it and keep the distance. But what about those monsters where that isn´t easy? I dread them.

@billybgame:
Those 'swirlies' are the conversion effect of Mind Blast (each casting has a chance to convert non-boss monsters to fight for you a couple of seconds). There is no way to stop a Shadow Master from casting them. She won´t do it when she is occupied in melee, though. Otherwise you can use Shadow Warrior, as you can control what she can do (she only uses Attack and the two skills you have selected on your mouse buttons).

To keep you assassin from charging into new territory when the monster you fight gets converted, use Shift-click when you fight.

Played quite a bit today with Thunderlia, and now she is my first character to have ever beaten normal in HC! Introducing Slayer Thunderlia:

Life: 236/206
Mana: 256/143

Strength: 56
Dexterity: 126
Vitality: 62
Energy: 50

Skills:
18 Lightning
6 ChainLightning
7 Lightning Mastery
1 in all other lightning skills 18 and below.

Resists are 70/71/75/75

I'm so pleased with her progress so far. I've never imagined sorcs to be this fun! Lightning is pwnage at 2-1.3k and Chain Lightning doing 2-433. Right now, waiting on an amn and sol for spirit crystal sword and insight respectively. She burns through mana a bit too quickly, so half my inventory is filled with mana pots. I replaced my +2 lightnig +2 static field orb with a +7x mana +13 energy rare orb. Once i get the spirit sword, it should be a lot better. Quite a few low uniques but none worth mentioning. Going to do a few more baal/pindle/shenk runs to try and make them cough up amns and some better gear.

1.11b HC, no mods

Finally I had everything to craft some gloves and make a Strength runeword. I played most of A1 at players 1, relaxing. Now I can choose from a greater range of mercs. The defiance one I had so far did a max of almost 600 damage, a might one will own everything... but a HF one would slow every foe and make playing more safe... tough decision. Fortunately, in 1.11 switching mercs later is easy, no endless levelling sessions ;)

Mercurial went through the rest of Act 1 and killed Andariel. The Maiden of Anguish was too tough to melee, killing my merc almost instantly every time I fought her. I eventually won the battle by running around in circles and sniping at her with Ice Blast while she chased me. She dropped a 179% Hone Sundan! First time I have ever found one.

I entered Act 2 and decided to go might merc...just because Mercurial might find a decent high damage weapon later on and HF aura wouldn't help her much, since she is already going around freezing everything in sight. With my new setup, I completed the Radament quest easily. Might merc + Hone Sundan OWNS. For now, at least.

Too tired last night to post my progress, so here it is:

Made some good progress yesterday, in my post midnight shift, vegetative, state. Duriel went down, with no problems. I fretted a bit, recalling my problems in Normal, but players 1 made things a breeze. And..........thus, I remember my 3rd question:

In 1.09 it was told that players X means nothing versus act bosses, besides making them a lot harder to kill. Basically, it did nothing for the # of items because the drops were set to be super drops, or whatever. This is still true, right? Because, NM Duriel, dropped just a few items. I thought it very odd. 3 items I believe, and no sets or uniques. I'm used to rares and below from an act boss, but you ALWAYS get like 5 items. Luckily I have that great map to get to him(if that works), so I can achieve retribution for all my efforts.

Anyhow, back to the matter at hand......

I would say I had quite a few NDE's yesterday, playing on players 7. I am reluctant to decrease it, and have a sneaking feeling this will be my doom. Mostly because of the the difficulty of act 2 dungeons, and the shaman types and all their skellies. Also, Cursed/etc boss packs. Mainly the zombies in act 3. Wow, they pack a punch, when amp dmg kicks in. My life went to low points, in no time flat, with 680+ life. I'm going to have to get myself to at least try players 5, methinks. Especially when I get towards the Durance.

MF was quite pleasin, besides Duriel. Right after posting about runes, I was irritated, and exited for vaulting, went to normal to reset my maps, and went back for a Tower run, and progress. Found two uniques in the Tower: Eye of Etlich!, and my 3rd Snakecord of the game. Later, found a Sigon's Wrap(cmon boots!), and my first Exceptional unique of this tourney(well not counting my gloves that I lost):

Fleshrender
Barbed Club
One-Hand Damage: 68 to 113
Durability: 29 of 56
Required Strength: 30
Required Level: 38
Mace Class - Normal Attack Speed
Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
Item Level: 50
Fingerprint: 0xa0d84d73
+155% Enhanced Damage

Prevent Monster Heal
150% Damage to Undead
25% Chance of Open Wounds
20% Chance of Crushing Blow
20% Deadly Strike
+2 to Shape-Shifting Skills (Druid Only)

I know it would be better for Shape Shifters, but any of you Druids out there, that joined the HC Ladder, interested?

Also, being I found that Eye of Etlich, my previous ammy is available:

Mentalist's Amulet of the Mind
Required Level: 15
Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
Item Level: 29
Fingerprint: 0x2807802c
+5 to Energy
+1 to Shadow Discipline Skills (Assassin Only)

And, I don't think I've posted the availability of this for a Sorc:

Chilling Amulet of the Sentinel
Required Level: 15
Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
Item Level: 25
Fingerprint: 0x123555d5
Magic Damage Reduced by 2
+1 to Cold Skills (Sorceress Only)

I've got some handy + life charms, as well.

Not true in 1.10 or 1.11.

Plowed through Act 1 uneventfully, and I hope to plow through act 2 as well. My resists are all negative unless I have Fade running. I suspect this will be my downfall this time around unless I can find some resists somewhere.
