Runes supposedly were made easier to find in 1.10 over 1.09, but I have seen no difference here yet. Cows are the best odds for finding those higher level runes (runes over Ist) of course it will take a lot of time and patience to get them. In my playing days I have found a Cham, Ohm, 2 Vex, 2 Gul, 2 Mal, 4 Um over 1.09 and 1.10 and most of those came while doing MF runs (in fact only a Vex came while rune hunting in 1.10 and 1 of the Gul's and Um's was from the Hellforge quest).
The biggest key to rune finding is time spent playing. I'm not talking 3 hours here, I'm talking 3 hours of playing everyday for months at a time. Yup, thats how stinking rare runes are, blame blizzard for that one.

been playing alot the last 3 years and that is alot of time spent in areas were big runes can drop and i have had these runes:
from hell hellforge: lots of ISTs/UMs and some lower (no gul)
a UM from 1.09 mephisto
a MAL from 1.10 pit
and some lower.
Though i have traded for alot of runes (OHM being the highest)
Makes me wonder how many of my runes that is legit :scratch:

Highest rune i've found was a mal from a random monster in the frozen tundra (or one of those tundra-esk areas in act 5) in an mp game, but last night running the pits i found a lem (my 2nd 
) and a Ko(my first)... not to mention an ik armor and a Steel Carapace.... come to think of it, thats the best night of pit running i've ever had. Off i got to run the pit some more!

Seems so because the aforementioned Vex could not have dropped from HellForge and I think we had a smilar problem about a certain vex dropped from a hellforge once before...

I can see why he is supicious because he said that, but it seems just a tad harsh to me that he was banned from one comment like that. I mean, I can *conceive* of myself making an honest mistake and accidentally saying I got a Vex from hellForge if I got really drunk/tired one night.
Of course, if he has made *mistakes* like this in the past, then feel free to ignore what I said above.

Back on topic... I found a Vex in 1.09 off the Countess, but only have a Gul so far in 1.10 off a Frozen Creeper boss in the Ancients Way.
I've read that running the River of Flame or Tal Rasha's Tombs yields well because of the apparition monster types. They drop runes better than many other monsters. (I suppose if I would bother to check ATMA's drop calculator I could verify this.

highest I ever found was an Um from some random boss in the Plains of Dispair in NM.

Ive had many nice runes drop along my Sorc's Journey. Ive found a few mal's and pul's none of which i really need, and i think there are like 3 or 4 left in my atma mule if anyone needs, but my first shocker was from Lord de Seis in the chaos sanctuary. I opened the seal to him and had to run to town many times to revive my merc (darn his fanat and Iron Maiden) but after he was slain i was very pleased to see Ohm Rune. A few days after that i found Cham Rune from a group of champions in the Frozen River when i was rescuing anya. No luck with finding a Zod yet

Rellik - I like running the hellforge also, but I refer to it as a heph/rof run, since the forge quest is completed after the first run. Heph can drop nice items and there is always a boss or 2 on the way to him. I hope you weren't banned for a mistake in terminology.

The highest rune I have ever found was an Ohm in 1.09. I traded it for Trang-Oul's Girth and Trang-Oul's Guise, because at that point in time, runes were relatively useless. I found a Gul about a month or two ago, and I traded that for M'avina's True Sight and M'avina's Caster. Interestingly enough, I found both the Ohm and the Gul from Pindleskin.
The only runewords I've ever made are 'Rhyme,' 'Honor,' 'Holy Thunder,' and 'Lore'.
I've found only 2 rare runes so far: a Sur and a Lo..
Both were found in equally funny circumstances which I've posted in the item find thread, but let me post it again..
I was doing Hell Meph runs and I had this map where just before the door to Durance lvl 3, there were many baskets and some stashes..In one of the runs, I decided to kick those baskets just for a change, and bam! A Sur dropped out of one of those pitiful looking baskets :lol: I remember going into a state of shock and staring at the monitor for some time..
The second find was again in a Hell Meph run..This time I had a different map, and now there were stashes and chests in the area where Meph stood..After killing Meph in one run, I again decided to go for the stashes/chests (remembering the Sur incident) and lo and behold! The Lo dropped out of a stash :lol: This time I didn't have the time to stare at the monitor because of those what-you-call life draining lord pack coming after me, so I jumped into the town portal, and stared at it in awe in town..
Now, as you can guess, I kick/open every barrel/basket/chest/stash I ever see

Best rune i ever got was a OHM from hell cow back in the 1.09 days. HC btw. I was suprised when i saw it on the floor and also glad that the dude cowing next to me didnt notice it 
. Then i traded that rune to for a bunch of zealot equipment to make my zealot that made it all the way to lvl 98!!!! OHM was not as usefull back in 1.09 but it was still nice drop from the moo moos .
1.10 i never found ne rune above an UM. That UM was from a hell hellforge i believe. Well any ways thats my story.
