Median XL released!

Re: Median XL released!

why don't you try yourself dlav.
do you really need someone to tell you that a build is viable?

Re: Median XL released!

That is precisely what forums are for.

Asking "is this character viable" is a moot question; pure Spearazons in D2 aren't uber powerful, but if you work it right it can beat the game. Same for Dentists, Summon Droods, Thrower Barbs, Hydra Sorcs... they're not the best, but they're all viable. Now, if someone had asked "is this a build that can easily pwn everything I see" it might be a different story.

Back on topic: Laz, I'm afraid to download it only because I have a feeling I'd never look back at LoD again if I played it! Believe me when I say that it looks amazing and you've obviously put a TON of work into it. Blizzard's official stance may be against modding, but I'd bet they'd be mighty impressed. Big up!

Re: Median XL released!

Actually, many players seem to treat D2 as a puzzle game: figure out which skills are the best and you will be able to complete the game.

i would like to ask if these builds are viable
*Necro:summoner/Posion/Crossbow(close range(buckshot/Angel of death)
*Sorc:Cold/Poison(cows,spiders while freezing)
*Druid:Charmer with max dmg command and poison and bow(im going for super hybirds)
*Pally:Unholy

* AoD and Buckshot fulfill the same role and require different weapons.
* Yep.
* Scattering your points all over the trees won't work. :P
* What kind?

Re: Median XL released!

I think Laz was a little modest when he created this thread.

The biggest thing MXL has to offer, compared to regular D2, is balance. We've all been saying "anything is viable if you want it to be" for years, but it's even more true for the characters in Median. If you pick two or three offensive skills that compliment each other, and one or two defensive skills, chances are you'll have a decent build. Then there's half a dozen ways to get that character equipped, all of which are pretty much feasible.

Heck, he even managed to make energy useful. Go figure.

GG here. That is primarily one of the reasons why I want to jump into Median so badly. For months I have been posting in the D2 Community forum claiming D2 as it is, is such a poorly balanced game. And people there actually tell me I'm wrong.

Re: Median XL released!

I just beat normal (Hatred? I don't remember) and I'm absolutely in love . By the way, you made Baal soo evil! I must have died 10 times before I could figure out a way to take him down(though I do think I was VERY under leveled). I'm level 66 now after a few hours in Kurast 3000 BC. I've cleared it twice and I still haven't found my class charm =/. Great job Brother Laz, you've created a masterpiece .

I do have one question though. Why are monsters in Act 1 of Terror dropping perfect gems? Is there a glitch or was picking up all those chipped pieces and cubing them a waste of time?

Re: Median XL released!

Played 2k8 to death and although I hated the way the skill tree's are colored the gameplay was just awesome. My favourite character was the assassin (doing cow runs with spike nova was just hysterical, I was in tears). Thank you brother laz for such a great time.:thumbup::thumbup: I sincerely recommend this mod to anyone!

Re: Median XL released!

i was able to finish first level chalenge.
Tran Athulua was very hard with my spear zon. i did it at lvl 50, first killing the cold one, then lighting one and with the help of those charms the last priestess. time to move on

Re: Median XL released!

I was trying to do Tran Athulua with my pure summoner necro last night, but failed miserably. My horde managed to kill one of the priestesses, only to be killed by a few stray arrows myself and missing the 30 timeframe to upgrade the charm. Much to my frustration. The challenge is already tough enough, does it really need a timelimit in the end too? :(

Anyways I'm probably making a new character anyways. I'm suffering from the traditional pure-summoner woes, mainly that I feel a little uninvolved when the horde does all of the work. Should have gone with a melee/summon or crossbow/summon instead. I really do like the Necromancers inbuilt teleportation skills, though. Makes your lief much, much easier when compared to a regular LoD summoner.

Yeah, PGems drop naturally in MXL. But if you cube all the lower gems you find, I think you can get them one or two acts earlier. I always like to start crafting resistance jewels as soon as possible.

That's part of the challenge. Your best bet is to kill the regular amazons in the area first. I usually run like hell if I see or hear a priestess, until I'm confident that she's alone.

Re: Median XL released!

run like hell is the only option and kill them one or two at a time. now that knockback is removed this is the best challenge ever.
anyway i did kill baal after leveling to 67. first time he was very very tough :)
second try i didn't even die at all. 14k defense and maxed rez helped alot
and i did Kurast3k too. now i just way for lvl 90

Re: Median XL released!

I need help! :(

There is currently an EPIC WHINE ongoing on the MXL forum from people who say the mod is too hard and they get killed all the time. The bottom line: lulz, elites kill me dead in the first difficulty, nurf plz.

Now what? If I reduce the difficulty of Hatred, then the mod will be just another overpowered leet trash mod for cheaters like every other competitor out there. If I don't reduce the difficulty, I lose a lot of players I attracted with Median 2008.

Eight months of testing and it comes down to a critical life-or-death dilemma one week after release... :(

Re: Median XL released!

Don't touch the difficulty! Please!:(
Really I'm soooooo enjoying your mod atm, and part of the enjoyment is the difficulty! And I have to echo the other comments: you've created a masterpiece!

I really don't find the mod so difficult that it's unplayable like they seem think. Yeah, the elites are tough, but not impossible. Unlike D2, I couldn't plow through the game on /players 8, I actually toned it down to /p1 for most of it. I beat the first difficulty at level 50 and while there were quite a few deaths, most could have been avoided. If anything needed to be toned down I'd say maybe the fight with Baal. I had what seemed like 15 clones of him running after me and I had to sacrifice myself so I could pin them on the other side of the room. Other than that though, the game presents a tough challenge, not an impossible one. I think everyone at the forums are just being crybabies.

I'd just pound into their heads to use their boss killer moves(like prowl). I had NO problems taking down elites with it the whole game and once my other skills hit higher levels, I could mass kill elites pretty easily.

Re: Median XL released!

elite are hard only for a beginer from vanilla. just pump resist and leech and some FHR and your set. let it like that laz

Re: Median XL released!

The only thing hard about it is the learning curve. Please leave the overall difficulty intact. You wanted to create a challenging fresh experience right? you did it! Forget those nay sayers; maybe some of us should create accounts over there to back Laz up? :)

Seriously though, I've barely started playing around with all the options this game has, but it is the D2 challenge I've been looking for. Between the tournaments on the SPF and now your mod I'm a happy camper! Some people think D2 1.10+ Hell mode is too hard, but there are plenty who will disagree. More importantly people have been spoon fed the same crap for some long in video games they forget what a good challenge is and how to adapt/rethink their approaches. Median XL is very hard, but not impossible.

Re: Median XL released!

I'm not gonna lie I die every 10 or so seconds because the screen gets filled with bright colours and stuff (the ROF was insane) but when i die i usually just laugh and try again. Don't tone down the difficulty i enjoy the challenge, I just need a bit of time to adjust from vanilla d2 at the moment as i'm just charging in spamming flame strike + mana sweep hoping for the best XD.

Btw how much damage does the bloodflame (think thats the name) molten boulder corpse spitting attack do? It one hits me everytime + the monster is invisible lol  (not complaining).

Re: Median XL released!

Great work Brother Laz, and thanks for all the time you've put into this mod, it's great so far!
I've got an unholy melee paladin going atm, and it's been great fun. Fresh spell animations are great, not to mention items and such. Vessel of judgement is great, loving the pew pew laser beams, and coupled with Blood thorns, most thigns go down at a reasonable speed on /p8 (Massive amounts of AoE spells rock). I've got a few questions regarding skills:
1) Why does it seem that Lemures doesn't seem to be doing nearly as much as Blood thorns? (I mean I know that bloodthorns has a ton of damaging blades, but shouldn't lemures do more damage on a single target if all 18 spirits hit?)
2) How does Lemure actually work? Is it only 1 spirit per cast can hit a single monster? And what determines how many spirits are released?
3) Are Shadow Fiends usually maxed when going Unholy Melee?
4) Is blood thorn considered a boss killer? (It seemed the case for Andariel, but not for some other monsters). Or should I max punisher as my single target killer instead?

Cheers in advance for the reply.

P.S We should get Jiasonz/Insane Wayne etc to play MXL, who knows, we might get some naked characters getting through Hatred :D

Re: Median XL released!

Excellent work Brother, this is like a new game!

Just beaten Radament, after a few deaths, mostly due to being mobbed by multiple packs of elites. Going with a Thrower Barb (something I've not done on LoD) with Snake Stance, and loving the big poison damage. Found loads of uniques as well, many of which I have sold because they're no use for my char and I don't want to get PlugY. Managed to gamble The Jester Cap (2), which I was quite happy with, but the Random resistance thing seems like it might be a killer a some point.

Don't change the difficulty, if they can't handle it they should practice more.

EDIT: @nebux - Didn't think of that, cheers!
