Guardian Jules_Winnfield: MFing Singer

After finally making the last two items I needed to motivate myself to play this guy again, it's finally time for Jules' guardian thread.

Idea/History:

So why would you choose the least efficient barb build for MFing? First of all, I love the singer build. Playing is easy as hell but I never find it getting boring. He was one of my first HC chars and after deeding my two first guardians (a necro and a zon) I wanted a char that was a bit more durable. And what's safer than a singer? Not a lot. This guy was originally a part of a two man untwinked MP project. The other barb was played by Kitteh way back when he was called Virgait, and was named Vincent_Vega. We never got around to progressing through NM.
I then came across kesteg's Intangerine, and decided to try out MFing with the guy. Turns out a singer without enigma is not very efficient. This didn't keep me from playing him though - and it wasn't a total disaster, he actually ended up winning an MFO for me with what seems to be the second lowest a85 winning score ever. Still counts! He leveled from early 70s to 92 in the pits and found a lot of the items my somewhat HC wealth is build on. Today I then finally made enigma, rolled a playable map and brought him to 93. I love the safety of the char which is obviously essential in HC, and his effiency, while easily beaten by zerkers and the like, is acceptable to me. It all ended up on the idea of trying to create an "unkillable" char that can still maintain a decent level of effiency.

Hat: Shako (PTopaz)

Since I do not have any crazy circlets laying around, this was an obvious decision. I do have a 1.07 Shako, but I like the DR% from the 1.13 one more than the extra life on the 1.07. Also, I have other plans for the 1.07 one. Eventually I will probably want a circlet of some sorts, but I'm afraid that will be a long term project.

Armor: Enigma Mage Plate
No introduction needed.

Weapon 1: Wizzy (Ist)
Hitting the 105% fcr breakpoint is absolutely essential - as I'm trying to optimize MF as well, getting 50% from a single slot is great. This build relies heavily on merc kills anyways, so the loss of skill points from not using HotO isn't too bad. resistances and mana are just gravy.

Off-hand 1: Crystal Sword (Ist+Ist+Ist+Ist+Ist+Ist)
MF. Other options could've been something with more fcr like HotO or Spirit, but for this particular set-up and with my weapon switch having all the fcr you need from other slots is nice. Further, 180% MF. Nice.

Weapon 2: Wizzy
This is my "safety switch" for particularly nasty boss packs. I will probably put a shimmering jewel in this eventually.

Off-hand 2: Stormshield (Hel)
So, during all the pit-running this guy has done I found that two things, and only in certain combinations of nasty boss-packs, can actually pose a threat to anything with ~5k life and mass stun/CC. First of all, double/triple archer packs with nasty physical dmg combos. I remember running into a triple pack with cursed, might, fana, and extra strong. Only serious NDE this guy ever had, and one of the only times I actually S/E'd. Having SS on switch (30% DR) allows me to deal with pretty much any physical dmg nastyness. The second thing is CE/LE, FE/LE, CE/LE/FE enhanced packs - in particular in combination with conviction aura. I do not know the exact mechanics, but that stuff hurts when you're standing right next to them stunning at 105% fcr. Added res from SS helps.
I do not use this switch too much but being able to instantly gain a lot of added safety with only the cost of MF is really nice.

Belt: Arach
Again, no fcr from helm, makes me need it from elsewhere. +1 skill is always nice.

Gloves: Trang Oul's Claws
Fcr. Resistances is a nice addition. Eventually, if I find a nice circlet or craft a better amulet, these will be switched with chancies.

Boots: War Travs
MF. I really need a better roll though.

Amulet: Doom Scarab
+2 Barb Skills, 7% fcr, 45 life, 4% regen mana, 5 life replenish, 19 MF, 19 mana.
I do have a +2 barb/18% fcr ammy laying around, but it's pretty much plain and since my MF/fcr rings all suck hard, I wouldn't gain enough to make it worth switching. I will keep looking for an upgrade though.

Ring 1: Shadow Master
10% fcr, 19 str, 7% LR, 26% PR, 6 MF.
Best fcr/MF ring I have.

Ring 2: Nagelring
More MF.

Inventory
Cube, ID Tome, 6 Skillers, Gheed's and the rest of the slots filled with MF SCs with a combination of mana/resistance prefixes.

Mercenary: Prayer
Still using a Prayer merc, since I forgot to get a new one before rolling my map again. Will change him to Might, since this build is as mentioned heavily based on merc dmg. He's currently wielding Insight (lvl 17 Meditation aura absolutely necessary), Treachery, Andy's Visage. Once I get one, I will reroll and insight in a 1.07 base. Might also change armor/helm, but haven't given it much thought yet. Would be nice with a source of CBF.

Strategy:

As mentioned, playing this guy isn't too hard. I basically tele on top of the boss pack, spam WC and let the merc help me kill the boss. Then hork. Rinse and repeat.
I've started to use howl quite a lot more aggresively than I've done so far. I find it helps in multiple ways - first of all it obviously makes the monster go away. No monsters, no danger. Second of all, it helps me isolate the boss which both makes it easier for me to telestomp him, in case I do not hit him in the first try, and it lowers the risk of the merc targetting random minions. I made a video of a run, that's pretty typical:


Run time in this video is pretty typical, although I have had runs as fast as 1.17. Also, as seen in the video bandicam+WC spamming isn't a great combo for my 5 year old Toshiba laptop.. Rolling for a better map will hopefully help me improve my times.

The general biggest problems (time wise) he occures is stone skin skellies, which do take a while to kill. Obviously this is a problem that a lot of other pit runners do not have. Further the only major disadvantage is his relatively slow kill speed, which is however a price that is paid for gaining great safety and relatively easy stacking of MF. After trying him out with tele, I am far from dissappointed and am looking forward to hopefully once again be competing in MFOs and the like - this time hopefully with better results.

Singer is still awesome!

May I introduce...Intangerine!

First off the name: He was first born as a SC entrant into the Craftsman's children tournament. Intangerine is a clever (?) play on words from a few things. 1. He was In-tangerine(orange) per tournament rules. 2. He was supposed to be a furious foe, like Intangir from FF3(6)!

He made it all the way up to NM Infector of souls, where he met an early demise. He then continued on through act 5 Hell with his Frenzy skills, I was back and forth on frenzy, sometimes I loved it sometimes I hated it. He then made an extended stay in the travincal and eventually respec'ed into a WW barb. More time passed in the travincal and I eventually grew tired of pounding their faces in...

He did a little MP and finally killed baal at around level 89-90, and then he mostly sat around.

Finally I was able to procure enough wealth to trade for Jah+Ber, and his final destiny was finally realized...

Now for the interesting part, the MFing!

This gear was obviously very specifically designed to have a lot of MF! I really sacrificed everything at the cost of two things :105% FCR and High MF
I had previously tried a 200% FCR variation at about 250 less mf, but it was not any faster, just a bit safer.

The strategy:

1.Find good pit map, here is mine, which is about 8 teleports from the WP. Not the best picture, just one I had...
2.On p1 kill only boss packs
3.Hork corpses @50%
4.Profit :)

There are a few things that make this work:
1. A merc with a high damage insight, mine is in a 1.07 eth CV, not ideal, and a bad damage roll, but the lvl 17 aura is key, and I was running out of runes to re-roll it. I estimate the merc to get around 50-75% of the initial kills, which is good since he sports an additional 100ish MF!
2. Good resists, This is more important than you may realize in the pits. There is one reason for this:LE/FE or CE Bug. Yes I know what you are thinking: Blizzard fixed that! It says so in the patch notes! Well...Don't believe everything you read. There is a separate bug that Blizz has never fixed, this happens when you stun a monster that is LE/FE, LE/CE, or LE/FE/CE and then hit him while he is stunned. The result is a Death explosion that seems to do about 200-300 damage with 75% resist all, Let me assure you that when the merc and you are both hitting this boss, you're life can be gone in a second or two. That is why it is key to have at least 50% resist all(except poison)
3. High Hork: I hit the 50% mark with BC on, and I think that that is a pretty good target as far as efficiency, and I would not go lower than 49% for any reason I don't think.

More thoughts on game play:
The most important part of this build is merc positioning, as he really needs to be hitting the boss. I usually tele stomp a boss, cast a few warcrys, then try to reposition the merc if he is not doing his duty. There is no possibility of PI Bosses in the pits, so everything is killable, but Stoneskin Skeletons especially are pretty resilient. The only Bosses I ever skipped were a SS skeleton with HF aura.
Once I have positioned the merc I just spam WC, when the boss is close to being dead and if there is already a pile of bodies by him I will start Horking them, so that when the boss goes down I can hork him right away.

How safe is this character?
Very safe! I died 2 times in 40 hours in the A85 tourney, both times were to fanatic packs of melee rogues. If you telestomp them and are not quick enough to get your first WC off they will Hit recovery lock you. Since I really don't have any FHR.
Archers can also be troublesome, If they get to spread out I just tele around stunning them until they are not a threat anymore.
In 40 hours in the pit I have seen every combination of nastiness, including Might/Fana/Holy Freeze, etc, etc and I still feel safe tele-stomping them (except those 2 times :))

Why not use a tele-zerker?
I have never played a tele-zerke, nor do I have any desire to. This build is VERY user friendly to play, something a tele-zerker is not. I never switched weapons with this character(even though I have dual Hoto's on switch that would help my BO) I used 3 skills throughout my runs(besides my BO,BC,Shout): Teleport, warcry, and Hork. This is a build that you can easily run for hours on end and not feel exhausted afterwards. And not that it is mindless either, you are always doing something, but It's just not so much micro-managing of skills/weapons.

Why not just howl monsters?
I just don't like it, and found it to be unreliable at best, so I don't do it.

Run times?
I can do my map at around 1:55 which is about 8 packs average( so 12 average with hork) I can cut off about 10 seconds per run if I do windowed mode, but my monitor won't go to a small enough resolution, so it makes the game too small to not make it a strain on me. I Have also never been a very fast runner at anything, so I imagine someone else could cut my times down even further.

TL;DR:

This character is awesome and can load up on a serious amount of MF

I hope you will try out a singer for yourself if you never have, it is my favorite build after all! Feel free to ask any questions or point out anything that you think may improve this.

Well, FoE helped me run through Hell. I wasn't really planning to make a thread, but he said I should. Big thanks to him for running Hell with his Wolfbarb!Well, Normal was normal. I was playing on basically a fresh install (1.13d HC) with no items at all. So, he was untwinked. Double Swing, all the +damage charms and gems he could stuff in his bag, that pretty much carried him to Act 5, where he took the time to rush a few for their socket quests. Ran Countess for some runes, cubed them up, and put on dual 'Spirit' swords, and made 'Insight' for the moron. With those pieces, he went back to visit Akara, and she taught him to sing!Nightmare progressed fairly well, and easy. 20+ Battle Orders, and all the monsters standing there for the moron to kill makes the game pretty easy. I was still playing on /p8 when I took down the Council, and started in on Mephisto. Well, I got scared, stunlocked, and almost killed in Durance 2, so I took a break. Started rolling a bunch of ilvl 51 Grand Charms, aiming for some Sounding ones, and hopefully some Serpant's for a big boost in mana. You can see the charms he rolled here. The Lit skiller with life was traded to FredofErik for quite a bit of gear (thanks again!) and that gave me the boost I needed to slay Mephisto. Act 4 and 5 went off without a hitch. I didn't take many pictures, it's just a singer. But, it was cool to stunlock NM Ancients and solo them! On /p8!Picture:

Sorry, no picture, it was well after 2:00 AM, just wasn't thinking.So, Act 2. I hate it. FredofErik to the rescue once again, we MP'd and he walked me through the acts.Nothing too exciting in Act 2. He taught me some MP etiquette while we were in CS. Diablo was a cinch (his Wolfbarb is really OP 1337 haxor5 :p) and Act 5 took like 7 minutes. That was Shenk, Anya, Ancients, and Baal and co.All in all, pretty standard Singer. His plans are to be a nice guy, and MP with the HC guys. Well, this was a long haul to become a guardian, and it's my second one! This was for the Slow and Steady tournament, which was really fun. I started off really strong and enthusiastic, but there were some major interruptions towards my motivation, such as my final exams in april, and the MFO at the end of april. Then some other games and stuff, and my new laptop meant I was a little too lazy to play, but here's the breakdown.


Before I forget to mention it, I misread the rules and did mule back on pretty early in the game, so I didn't follow the rules perfectly. From then on I just decided to use gomule as I wished. Oh well. Totally untwinked, though.


Normal:
Lots and lots of coldcrow runs. I didn't get my second gull from her until I had somethng like 300 mf, and we were nearing act 3, I believe. We may have already been in act 3, actually. After that I followed along and stayed at way to high of a level for quite awhile. I used Zephyr as soon as possible, and continued using that until around my mid 30s when I got insight for the merc, adn eventually got 2 spirit swords while working on trav/eldritch/pindle runs. I jsut kept grinding it, and did a few too many baal runs, so that I was level 66 by the time I gave up on normal.


In order to kill bosses, I had a back-up switch for crushing blow and slow target. Those are below, so as not to be crushed by this text. Most notable finds of normal are limited to probably just my 40mf IK helm, which I usually used when I killed bosses, as well as my circlet, which I gambled somewhere around level 33 and didn't replace. . .


Nightmare:
:( MFO, anyone? I just couldn't bring myself to be motivated to actually work on most of NM, so i unfortunately just rushed through almost all of it. I still did all the quests aside frm Nihl, of course. Ran pindle a tiny bit, probably, and maybe one or 2 baal runs. I was in my low 70s before I went to hell, though, so I don't think I did much. So that's about 5 levels in NM :p


Hell:
Again, I was distracted through most of this by the binding of Isaac and some other games, but I did a fair share of pit runs. Enough to get to level 84 at p1, anyway. This week I actually ran through acts 2, 3 and 4 so that I could finish on time, but lost interest in finishing right away. Back to pit runs!
In my first few pit runs with this character (my second run?) I found my first ever cham, and it felt good. Now the only rune I haven't found is zod *rolls eyes*
The other day I found a Templar's, and almost had a heart attack. while IDing it.

when you look at my gear, you'll really notice (especially by the ilvls) that most of this was acquired in normal, and my gear barely changed as I progressed (partly because I rushed the 2nd and 3rd difficulty). Stealth was slowly upgraded frmo one base to another, so that I could have much better defense against enemies when they aren't stunned (such as uniques!). I also used magefist for msot of the game, and switched it out towards the end, actually.

Build and Gear Progression:

The build for the singer was standard skill wise. One point in the masteries as they became available other than weapon masteries, nothing in combat skills (obviously). In terms of the war cry skills, I don’t think I actually maxed out war cry itself until somewhere near the end of the game. I wanted to minimize mana costs through questing as much as possible until near completion of the build. Battle Orders was also maxed somewhere near the beginning of the build because more life is always great. Synergy points were kind of spread evenly but I ended up maxing battle cry first for efficiency/safety with bosses.

Stats were enough strength/dex for gear. I could actually probably lose 10 strength thanks to the boost from travs, but I’ll probably wait until I have an enigma to respec anyway since I’m sitting at a comfortable 400 vitality. Nothing in energy as always especially with the terrible returns, needed mana boosts were taken care of through charms and the increase maximum mana on gear (4.2k life/960 mana with BO).

Early game I think I may have used some arrangement of Death/Berserkers/Angelic since as a cool barb you can use both the full death and full berserkers set at the same time. Once level 30 was reached, gear was switched to a caster outfit with dual spirit swords, peasant crown, vipermagi, silkweave and glooms trap belt, some rare rings and the sweet rare ammy seen above. Gear was eventually switched out to what is seen above as it became available to become more magic find oriented while still hitting the 105 fcr breakpoint and maintaining max resistances. MF on standard kill is 367 currently, and 655 with dual ist baba switch for horking. That will obviously drop a little if I ever get enigma, but that will be well worth it. Inventory is made up of 4 skillers, 1 mana/fhr GC, 2 mana/life LC, Gheeds, remainder a varying array of mf scs.

Questing and Gameplay:

This started out like most other HC MP excursions, group of people in the start, we get through maybe act 1 and activity starts to dwindle. I can’t recall if we all made it to the end of normal or not, but I know this guy was parked in act 5 normal for a long, long time since my first screen shot is from April 2013, and he was finished November 2013. I think I eventually picked him up and did shenk/pindle runs to get to a decent level and pushed on either with some other people or on my own. I think cdm helped me at the end in late hell so I could make it to guardian and complete the character. Questing/Killing on his own is kind of slow go, but not terribly. Physical immunes are the biggest problem, but other than that gameplay was more than safe, pretty much nothing moved as it was constantly stunned and my large mana pool pretty much meant I could spam war cry until everything was dead. Gather a group, spam war cry, hork, move forward. Rinse/repeat for most of the game.

Interesting finds:

Too long ago, I don’t really remember. There is a pair of trek’s that dropped from Hell Baal that can be seen in the pictures though so there is that? Forge must not have been memorable either.

Future Plans:

Pits if I feel like it, otherwise nothing for now. Might do some MP baal runs with him as it provides tank+safety for the group but we haven’t played together in quite a while so I don’t really know how likely this is.

Six down, one to go. Skunkeneggar the Singing Barbarian defeated the Hell Ancients and Baal this evening to become my sixth Guardian, and my first in 1.11. I also used the RWM for this one, my first Guardian that wasn't "vanilla." Skunkeneggar's merc used an Insight polearm, which was a big convenience, though mana burn bosses were still problematic. Other than that, Skunkeneggar's gear was a mixture of terrific and junk (see below).

The Ancients were an easy fight, strangely enough. I had to reroll once, due to mana burn in my first group... but the second batch was reasonable, and they were smushed much more quickly than I expected.

Level three of the Keep was scary, with physical immune witches and also OK's running around. I did lots of leaping, and finally got down to the Throne. The Throne had witches (cold immune, much better), vampires and gloams, all of whom were quickly dispatched. The Minions also went down easy... until Lister, who spawned physical immune, stone skin, and extra strong. I finally had to go to town and buy a weapon with some elemental damage, and after a long, dreadfully boring battle, he finally went down.

Baal himself was also a long battle. He kept calling in his twin brother. But after a long while, he died, dropping a super 1336 Rogue's Bow. Clearly, he deserved it.

So now, just a Druid is left, and I'll have one of each. I have two Druids in hell right now, one mauler bear, and one windy... we'll see what happens :D

Well, thanks to 1.13b I managed to get some high runes. The council was kind enough to provide the runes for Enigma and CtA and Diablo himself contributed a Vex for HotO. I had decided on Stormshield, because I was planning to spend all of Hell teleporting on top of monsters, so max block and 45% dr seemed like a good idea. However this meant I couldn't hit the 99fcr breakpoint.

The resulting LCS looked like this. Base strength (with some charms), enough dex for 75% block and the rest in vit.
The skill distribution was also less than spectacular: 20 Tornado/Hurricane/Cyclone Armor/Twister, 1 Grizzly, 1 in the first two vines, rest Oak Sage.

Gameplay was fast and easy. For Normal and NM I went without max block and focused on damage instead. Prayer Merc and Insight meant very low potion consumption (1 healing pot in A1 and A2 NM each, I counted). Equipment was the usual Spirit/SotV/Lidless/etc.
I entered Hell at level 73, respec'ed for max block with Stormshield and never looked back. The merc got Reaper's for even more damage and safety. I kept Prayer because I forgot to switch...
Not that I needed help. Telestorm destroyed Hell at /p5 pretty much effortlessly (/p1 for A5 because I wanted to get it over with). PI's weren't invincible, but I usually just teleported past them. All in all: no difficult fight, no NDEs.
First time achievement for me: not a single merc death! His huge life pool might have helped... According to my calculations the Grizzly had nearly 8k hp, so he didn't die too much either.

Finds: ?/?/UM from HF, a Mal from Bishibosh's pack in Hell. No spectacular items.

So, great defense and offense coupled with teleport - surely he was a lot of fun?
Yes, while questing at least. Didn't touch him after making Guardian though. Tornado gets old. He also can't quite compete with a decently geared Hammerdin (even with the same gear). I had hoped for a similarly great area runner, but somehow Telestorm doesn't quite cut it.


My mixed feelings about Telestorm meant that Botlike got his gear back right after Hell Baal bit the dust. I wasn't terribly motivated to get back in the CS and instead hit the Trav WP, just to see if the Council was still there (hadn't visited after completing Enigma). Imagine my surprise when this popped.
I wasn't exactly flush with runes (having made Chaos for my Assassin for a laugh), but I could just cube a Pul (involving Io, Lum, Ko, Fal and Lem runes). The runes for a second HotO were available, but what to do with it?
Well, there is one class that can dual wield them. Also, I happened to have a Barbarian sit at level 27 for a while.

Reaper was supposed to be an Obedience Thresher wielding NF-Style Berserk barb. Since he was started back in 1.12, no immediate respec was available. Not much of a problem. Bonesnap and Concentrate made short work of A3+4 and with the help of dual Bloodletters he whirled effortlessly through A5.

After clearing the NM den of evil, Reaper was respec'ed to his new calling as a Singer barb. I slapped on the usual mid level caster gear and was immediately happy to see 3k life in the LCS. With Insight on the merc, Reaper inexhaustibly screamed his way to level 65, when he could finally equip his predestined equipment:

All this killing of motionless enemies finally led to Hell Baal, who was dispatched with the usual ease.
LCS in the end. Yep, that's 5,7k life.

I completed NM on /p7, early Hell on /p3 and from Hell Travincal on /p1. Damage wasn't great, but definitely enough against small targets. Once the merc could equip his eth CV, he packed a decent punch. For most bosses I gave him a 3xShael Hone Sundan - 80% CB at nearly max speed is quite nice.

NDEs: You did see the life pool, right? It's nice when you can take 3k damage before even starting to think of maybe taking a purple. The merc went down a couple of times though. See: fun with beetles above.
I also met some PIs. Then I teleported away.

Finds: Mal in A2 Hell, Um from Hell HF (notice a pattern?). I was prepared to write "nothing" regarding items, but then Reaper found my first green Sacred Armor :)

I had been afraid of the mana consumption, but that worked out nicely. Some blue pots were consumed, but not a lot. BO boosted the mana pool to a very decent level (~1,2k). In the end Reaper had a multiplier of 2,5 for life (=50 hp for 5 points in Vit) and 3 for mana (2x HotO + SoJ).

Reaper was a lot more fun than expected. I ended up (almost) never using Taunt or Howl. Instead I simply teleported into each group in range, stunned everything, and teleported on to the next victims. 8 seconds stun duration = eternity.
He will now start a career as Pit Runner - incredible safety, 8fpc teleport, 230 mf, 430 mf on switch (45% hork), enough damage for /p1 and lots of fun 👍 First finds were promising: green Mythical Sword, Mal, Azurewrath and Leviathan.
I could increase his mf with Arach and Travs, but apparently those are missing in my copy of LoD...
On the other hand I found an Echoing Amulet of Luck (32) in my stash.

In conclusion: Questing with Enigma is fun, but has completely destroyed my style. My other Guardians invested in solutions for Immunes, these two just teleported on... At least I still level up while questing and don't hide in the Pits until level 85 ;)

Lastly: 6/7. I don't have a nec planned though.

Ok! This guy was an absolute blast to play! He went through normal on players 8, switched to players 6 and 4 for NM, then had to switch to players 1 for the latter part of hell, as the warcry damage just didn't kill the big nasties fast. Bosses weren't a problem, they just took ages. Hell baal was the worst, with his mana burning attack, but I got him in the end :) Plus him so-called 'minions' were a pushover.

The "insight" pole on my merc was invaluable, because when you're casting a spell with a mana cost of 46 so rapidly, your mana drains VERY quickly. Even with a mana regen shrine I was just breaking even mana-wise when casting heaps.

General strategy was to leap attack into the middle of a pack (I prefer leap attack to leap, because leap can knock monsters out of war cry range), warcry once, then scream obscenities at all the nearby monsters until they're in range, then warcry the hell outta them. One tip - don't do this if your light res ain't up to scratch!

Now I forsee this barb as the ultimate party barb (although I soloed him through the whole game). He gives a massive life/mana boost, he stuns monsters, he yells humorous obscenities at the enemy, he lowers enemy damage/defence, and with the prayer merc /w "insight", and he provides massive life/mana regen!

Now I can start another char... Thinking tesladin 👍

The journey and thoughts

HearMeRoar is not an untwinked barb. Of the endgame gear, the frostburn, vipermagi and angelic amulet were not self found, they were given to me by some generous people ( Jason Maher, Pyro and someone else ). Jason also MP'ed with me through most of normal mode which was a big help. The rest of the items were found along the way. He's not strictly single pass but mostly so ( I did some elrich and pindle runs in normal/NM to get my levels up, but that was it ), I didn't try to do any MFing or running with him.

What about him? Well, he's a singer. I hadn't built a singer ever before but people say he's a good hc build. Which he is, in terms of safety. Damage output is really poor though on his own it's more of a support build. Still he managed to become guardian which I was quite surprised and happy ( expected to deed him somewhere along the way but it didn't happen ).

The journey? Well, normal mode was a trainwreck. First, I joined up with an MP group ( Jason and Pyro iirc ), who gave me several nice twink items like a hellforge hammer, angelics and part sigons. So for a while I was normal attacking and using taunt and howl, shout. Later in Act 2 I realized I wasn't doing any damage so Jason gave me a Death's set with two swords and I put a point in double swing, which kinda worked but not much at the end of Act 4 ( Jason MP'ed with me throughout till the start of A5 ). My build at that point was stupid - 10 mace mastery (for hellforge hammer), 10 howl, and some points in BO, sword mastery, double swing. But then, Akara came in handy at lvl 30 and I respec'ed to a warcry build. Warcry was low damage at first but it slowly picked up, though I had to constantly pop mana potions until I made an insight at lvl 41 or so. Anyway, nothing more of interest in normal. I went solo after Act 5 - no idea what happened to the other guys characters. Barbs are miserable in normal mode no matter how you make them IMO.

Nightmare mode was much more interesting. Warcry damage really picked up and I went p8 on the first three acts , then down to p3 for A4 and p5 for A5. Spamming warcry mostly killed everything, though I ran into my first PI here ( elemental damage from insight killed it ). At that time I realized that I would need to get around physical immunes eventually and also was tired of doing nothing against act bosses so decided to go for a one point zerk on switch, which would be synergized with max howl. I needed a good weapon for that and fortunately I found one in NM Canyon of the magi from some random creep - Steeldriver ( very high ed too ). I decided to also go for angelics to solve the attack rating issue. Also, max battle cry reduces the enemy defense quite well, and also the enemies damage output.

Actually I ended up using zerk on quite a lot in Hell, not only on bosses but also on the bigger types of monsters like blunderbores and stuff with high pdr like zombies, against whom warcry doesn't work so well. Also I rolled a few spirits in many bases such as long sword, giant sword etc, hoping to get good fcr rolls + add a crafted fcr belt for potential 105% fcr. However the spirits rolled badly and I didn't find any sharkskin or vampirefang belts to craft so I abandoned that plan and just picked the ones with the most +mana. Also I got lvl 12 meditation on my first two insights ( halberd and bec-de-corbin iirc ), but the third in a partizan rolled lvl 17 which was nice, cause warcry sucks up gallons of mana. To be honest, he's much more of a caster than fighter. He doesn't have the cannot be frozen mod for one thing, and his damage/AR are not where I'd want them to be.

Hell mode was started at lvl 73. After meeting three PI rats and taking years to kill zombies in blood moor on a tentative p3, I slammed it down to p1 and kept it there for all of hell. This build barely does enough damage for even that. Most of the act was quite easy. Natalya's boot dropped in the barracks. I used three imbues on circlets at this point hoping to get one with barb skills/fcr. No such luck. Bloodraven took a while, and Andariel managed to kill the merc. Countess dropped a ral.

Act 2 Radamant went smoothly, but after that it was extremely painful all throughout. Almost every boss had stupidly difficult mods including CE/LE which really hurt when struck many times by warcry, esp. for the merc. Beetleburst was PI and CE ( well his kind are LE by default ). It's kind of hard to deal with these especially when 2-3 bosspacks at once. Then there were loads of PIs, itches, and later ghosts, and just hard to kill monsters like maggots. Then in the claw viper temple more CE/LE BS, and then constant fights with mummies resurrecting skeletons, so they always needed to be taunted, and still took years to kill and were immune to zerk. After that the harems were full of extremely nasty packs of archers including triple boss packs, and blunderbores that had huge pdr and stun attack. The arcane sanctuary was taking forever so I decided to howl and leap attack all the way to the summoner. This worked on the first branch but I got amped and had an nde so for the second I had to go through it, inch by excruciating inch. Luckily the summoner was on the second branch. Stepping into the canyon of the magi I was greeted by three bosspacks, of which one was CE LE and one PI. In the tomb, of course I got more CE LE ( scarabs ), PI apparitions and mummies. And I had to go through the entire tomb to find the seal of course, it turned out to be in the very last branch. Oh man, it just took like the longest time ever.

Act 3 was a LOT easier. Szark the burning had some bad mods and a nearby fana pack but was doable. Sometimes when PI itches got mixed with thrashers it got very annoying to have to zerk itches while ensuring thrashers are still stunned otherwise thrashers do huge dmg and hard to kill with warcry anyway. So at some point I just howled and ran through ( LK iirc ). Dolls and such are pretty easy to deal with by warcry, easy to stay out of range and stun them. Councils were hard. They took a long time to kill and one of the dudes was CE LE, and another PI.

Act 4 I decided not to try killing stuff until chaos sanctuary because stuff generally has so much hp and pdr that it's not worth it. Howled and ran through the three overland areas, though Izual had two boss packs nearby and was somewhat tough to kill. RoF had regurgitators and urdars and stuff so again I just howled and ran through, and lured out Hepasto. Hellforge was a Ko ( and for the first time I just hit the forge without clearing the surrounding monsters ). Then leap attacked through the annoying maze bit and went into chaos sanctuary. I actually took my time and killed everything in the chaos sanctuary. It was quite easy. Stuff here actually has less pdr and hp than most of Act 4 imo. De Seis was quite a walkover.

Act 5 was not too hard, thankfully I did not get the hard spawns like gloams in frozen river or PI moon lords. Just before ancients, I used my final respec to get rid of unecessary points in str/dex, two points in leap attack, etc, and thus 'complete' the build at lvl 81 ( 20 in four main skills and all the 1 pointers ). Also, at this point, I swapped my prayer merc for might so as to have more damage for the ancients fight. Ancients were rerolled couple times to get rid of amp, and could have been stunned but I preferred to split them up and zerk them with battlecry. WSK was done carefully ( in lvl 3, I rerolled to get rid of frenzytaurs, then got the PI witches so just howl and run through ), and throne of destruction spawned gloams and witches but I took my time with them with taunt and warcry. Lister's gang was easily stunned and killed, but Baal kept cloning himself and using the knockback wave and tentacles so it took a while. Baal's drop.

Final thoughts: It's a very safe build for HC with 4k hp, max resists and mass stunning warcry and huge CC from howl, taunt. The damage is really lackluster but I imagine it would be a great support character.

Edit: Oh, and I did not do the Nihlithak quest on NM or Hell. Gotta go back and do those.

Rune rant

I really have to comment on the ( lack of ) runes found during the run. I don't mean high runes or anything, never expect that. Even forget a Pul and Lum to upgrade my steeldriver. In Hell A2 I found an ethereal partizan ( and later on a white thresher ), and wanted to roll for 4 sockets to make potentially better weapon for merc, but realized I had spent all my Amns rolling spirits. Then waited for three and a half acts to find an Amn rune or enough thuls to cube Amn, but no cookie. Yeah. My five highest runes were: Ko, Ko, Io, Hel, Dol ( everything else below that ). And that's including the forges. Sometimes I really think the so called 'high' rune drop rate of 1.13 is just bunkum. It may be 'high' compared to some other versions, but not anywhere near the normal use of the word 'high'.

The story
So yeah, a little while after I started my barb, I actually checked the level requirement. I expected it to be around 55-75, but to my dislike it turned out to be 79. Though that ticked me off a little, I went on, of course. I decided to build my barb for Concentrate, because, I figured, that would go with the 'safety' feel of the Wolfbarb. In retrospect, Frenzy is more like how the Wolfbarb plays, but oh well. I also decided not to venture in Hell before I was officially a Wolfbarb. I played Normal and Nightmare on /p8 and Hell on /p1.

Anyway, as I said, I more or less expected this build to be one of those 'slow, but safe' builds. After running Nightmare Baal something like 15-20 times to finally hit 79, I respecced BoldOrNot and I was really excited how he would play. I am happy to tell you that I was very, very positively surprised with his performance! His damage per second improved big time, and, together with the FRW bonus from Feral Rage his kill rate per minute really racked up. I've taken the liberty to list the pros and cons, as I experienced them.

Pros:
  • Even more life
  • 7fpa with this gear setup (vs. 12 with other single attacks)
  • Lots of life leech
  • Lots of FRW
  • No Combat skills needed

Cons:
  • Constantly need to refresh Werewolf (then again, you need to
  • No Howl/War Cry (i.e. no crowd control)
  • No Berserk (i.e. no PI solution, though Reaper's Toll solved all PI's save one.)
  • No Leap/Leap Attack
  • No Find Item
  • Crappy helm (yeah, it provides the skills, but other than that it's pretty lame)

So yeah, anyway, Hell was completed in a personal record speed; I started yesterday afternoon and I've completed it something like two hours ago. The combination of a fast attack with 80% CB and the insane FRW really makes Hell a piece of Fallen.

The first Act was rather unremarkable. I had an interesting experience in the Claw Viper temple, where I was surrounded by vipers and being bounced around for over ten times. I actually had to use a full rejuv. I guess they got an "Achievement Unlocked" right before they died. The Tombs caughed up a Pul a little while later (or was it before? Don't remember...). In the Arcane Sanctuary I found the only monster I couldn't kill.

Act 3 was a breeze, so was Act 4. Even the Ancients in Act 5 posed no threat. Madawc went down first, quickly followed by Korlic and shortly after by Talic. Souls in the WS K were pretty nasty, but other than that, there was little worth mentioning, not even the waves. Oh, is that you, Baal? Yep, your intestines and crappy drops say you are.

Hello again, everyone!

This one's been a while in the making so let's get right into it. After finding a pretty nice wolfhowl in an MP game and seeing how awesome Fred's is in many other MP games, I decided to finally try my hand at the legendary wolf barb. I had also been wanting a SAFE trav runner that wasn't a damn WW barb (screw those guys). Many PMs flew between FoE and I weighing pros and cons, but despite his advocating grief, I wanted to try two handed in particular I wanted to try out Tomb Reaver. My wolf is named YoungBull after a character in The Wheel of Time. I really, REALLY wanted him to be a giant maul user to fit the character, but wanted even more for him to live and not suck. So after trying Tomby and finding it lacking, I wound up with him using grief.

I rushed a barb to NM baal and leveled him w/o using any skills/stats to 79 (not recomended, it suuuucked) because I wanted to quest him through hell as a wolf. I wish there was some sort of progression for shifting skills on a barb, but you really do have to wait until 79, it must have been crappy before respecs, next time I'll quest/level him as something that works then respec. In any case, doing it this way saved me a token because I've since respeced him many times while tweaking his endgame gear. I'm finally satisfied, though I could see a future respec in the event of boredom.

At 79, I really didn't know what to do with him until I could try out tomb reaver so I used one of my favorite sets for furywolves, IK. Naturally, it worked great on a barb. I even went so far as to try out the full set as a wolf after shifting. It was great fun to have a barb that was shifted, but was also shiny from the full set bonus. He did pretty decent normal attack damage what with all the full set bonuses, but I didn't like having to switch hats nor not having a "real" attack. I leveled and quested up to tomby and re geared around it. It is a fine weapon and I rather liked it, but (BUT!) grief exists and it is mighty fine. Fred was right (this thread helped convince me too). With tomby, I was killing, but not as fast as I wanted so I switched to grief and was very happy with the results. After fiddling with the other slot, I went with Silence in a PB mainly because I had it on hand. I never went with a shield, and really wish Druid Wolves could dual wield as well. Screw shields. It has loads of res, fhr, and even 2skills to up Feral rage and weapon mastery a bit. Bonus is that the annoying aspect of it for melee use, ctc flee, doesn't work off hand when not striking with the weapon. About the only thing I can think of trading it in for is phoenix, but then you're stuck with a crappy shield that doesnt block fast and redemption getting rid of corpses instead of horking them..

Future plans include running Trav forever and running around with Fred. Here's some action shots of us both.

Seeing as my chance of getting a 2nd Doombringer has reduced dramatically, I'll post this:

Introducing Guardian ThodaDragonsbne, level 79 Wolfbarb!

Thoda defeated Baal normal completely untwinked, but then I decided to twink him fully because in Act 5 normal, players 1, he was doing NO damage. It took forever to kill anything, and it was very slow going.

Once he was twinked with weapons and gear, there wasn't really a challenge through nightmare. My merc stayed up front, and I hit over top of him. Generally slow going, but with nice hitpoints, there wasn't too much trouble.

Hell was the fun part. :rolleyes: On occasion, very slow going. Some problems were those explody dolls in the DoH (which took off 1-1.5k hitpoints at times,) IM made things slow, and so did those Hell Temptress witches in Baal's Throneroom.

My basic strategy was to Taunt everything and pull them off a few at a time, letting my merc do away with them. Run back, and Taunt more.
Once I reached level 75, I gave my merc The Reaper's Toll, and then everything was like a toy. He'd walk up, and tank everything with about 15% life leach and 2k damage and Decrepify! I let him get through everything, while I sat back and waited for him to finish them off. Not the most fun character I've made, but being a wolf at the end was more fun. :)

Act 4 Hell wasn't too difficult. Merc did most of that, mainly because I now don't mellee if IM is present, and he could tank easily.

The Ancients - I did these guys at level 78, because by this time, I just wanted him Guardianed. With nice lifeleach on both my merc, and myself, I split them up and took two on at a time. A fairly long battle, but mostly one-sided.
They had terrific mods first roll (Extra fast, stone skin, magic resist.) None of them had an aura, and none were cursed. I used almost all my Juvies though.
Eventually, I reached level 79 and equipped Wolfhowl.

After the Ancients, the WSK had nice monster rolls (no Oblivion Knights at all.) These guys were pushovers. My merc and I ran into a gloam pack with a unique hero undead raising Ancient pack behind them, and while their damage was fairly irritating, we could tank them quite well. A few trips to town, due to the gloams large damage (despite 53% LR,) but I chose to run past most of of these upper levels, exluding the pack above.

Baal's Throneroom - From being giants, to being toys again. As soon as I got down those stairs, a hero pack of those Temptress Witches assaulted us. My merc died 4 times to that one pack! But slowly, we took them down one at a time, and moved on. He died a couple more times to their curses and blood stars, but I finally reached Baal himself.

First Wave - Shifted to a wolf and slashed them.
Second Wave - Back to my original form and used my proven strat - Taunt! Drew off the mages and Ancients a few at a time, and won that battle quite effectively.
Third Wave - Taunt again.
Fourth Wave - Back to the wolf, and my Merc and I tanked them.
Fifth Wave - Divided them up, 2 or 3 at a time, and Feral raged them.

Baal himself Annoyingly long battle! Ended up changing my mercs helm to Guillame's Face, and the CB did wonders. (My damage was pitiful at best, and drew slivers off him every ~15 hits.) Then he kept raising his Clone! Ack. Longer battle than the Ancients!

Experiences
Wolfbarbs are very slow at leveling, and their damage is generally low. Killing things quickly becomes a problem, though. While he was quite fun at times, the slow killing speed and difficulty in leveling is really their main downfall.

The Journey:
Not much to say here. Got rushed through normal and NM and then spent time til 78 doing Baal as a frenzy barb - usually with the help from some of the other guys. Then leveled in hell a1 til 79 and respecced to wolfie. I then joined up with coju and cdm and got to Guardian and a couple of Baal runs.

Finds:
Not much (what would one expect when rushed all the way?). HF was an Um and the guy with the hammer dropped me a green Kraken Shell. Found a Mal when we did the trav quest, but cdm claimed it "in the name of all rushers" - cheap bastard :p

General thoughts:
I love this guy! No, his dmg isn't through the roof - but he can still put some stuff down. Huge defense, plenty of life, great leech, stacked resists, stacked DR%, Decrep from merc and fast run speed gives huge safety and he can tank like a boss, even in HC. This was also my goal with this character, which I feel I have accomplished. Also, as greizer puts it: lul wulf!

Now:
First of all he needs to level. I want more life. Second of all, I want to improve his charm set. I would like to stack my resists some more. I like the Shaftstop but will consider changing it if/when I get a forti - first of all I'm looking for improvements over the two 14@ jewels. He also really needs some ML - I think I will try to get it from the glove slots, as the Dracul's really aren't that necessary. Would love to craft a nice pair of blood gloves.
The purpose of this character is to MP and tank the way for the sorcs, zons, etc that are supposed to do the actual killing - so this is hopefully the way he will level and improve his gear set. Afterall it seems, lately, that a couple of the regular HC MPers are in dire need of some anti-deeding meassures..... ;)

Had a friend round a while back and did a bit of LAN D2 for fun and it got my interest in the game back again. Kept the Passion in my bags til the end incase any pack was PI and I couldn't be bothered waiting for OW and Bone Spirit to whittle them down.

Had slightly grander plans for his gear but I found that everything that was equipped did the job and I didn't find it necessary. Pretty fun character overall, don't fancy the 1-79 grind without a main skill again though!

Dunno if I'm gonna make another guardian anytime soon, have no plans, but I'm sure I'll get bored again and try and blast through another character!

The idea was to do something similar to that what MongoJerry did in 2003 (Gunter, the barbarian mage), but with all good equipment and exp with singers I have by now. So, RoaringBlaze, the firewalling singer, was born.
I took some pieces of TO set, iced the whole thing with good rune words and mana regeneration from Insight, and rushed straight into the fray.

II. Gameplay

What to say? This - basically - is a standard singer barbarian, who throws walls of fire from time to time just for the fun of it.

Was it fun? You bet.
Did the firewall make significant difference? Yes and no.
No, because without fire mastery, and without newly acquired in 1.13 synergy the firewall doesn't deal a lot of damage - slightly under 2k with no facets and mid roll Ormus with Ice Blast (yay -_-). That's not a lot - the delay is ruining the possibility of building up insane DPS stacked firewalls.
Yes, because
a). the skill makes singer a bit more complicated. You have to aim, you have to pick monsters and situations just to make the whole thing a bit more rational (not necessary, though - you can just throw fire left and right and basically just set things on fire because yeah.)
b). low hp physical immunes and physical resistant monsters finally get owned by a singer (Gloams, Ghosts, Mosquitos). And some big bad guys, too!

TL;DR - I could have gone without firewall and still be fine (but that would be less hot).

Hell was beaten at /p3. The journey was nice and smooth. Only one NDE: fanacursed archers shooting from some dark corner of the Pits, where I spent some time - a classic one.


III. To MF or not to MF?

As I didn't have fire facets, and even if I had them, I wouldnt bother spending them on a firewalling barbarian, I had some space in my equipment slots for magic/gold find.
I however did not hold MF as a primary aim what so ever, but I did get some.
The hork switch was 36% with dual Ali Baba blades - not much, but still nice. Horking 14k+ gold piles from champion monsters was quite common (up to 28k from Travincal Councils).

The number of uniques found wasn't impressive, but not minuscule, too.

IV. Drops.

Rune wise, the drops were average to crappy. Pul from some random monster - I don't even remember which one. Nightmare Hellforge gave me Lem, Hell Hellforge - Hel (Hodor Hodor Hodor - Hodor).

Item wise, drops were okay.
I did have some joy of finding etherial items (Hellslayer, Viperfork, that unique staff with 100% mana stolen per hit, probably something else).
Other than that, I did get a unique or set item every now and then (Unique russet armor, unique cedar bow, set jagged star - you get the idea).
Nothing "WOW!"-worthy, though.

I, however, did get a very interesting rare item - a silver-edged axe with both Fool's and Screaming prefixes. Too bad it had an Arcing prefix instead of Cruel.

V. Further plans

I think I'll get rid of firewall gear and load some serious MF on the toon to run pits every now and then.

This is a Wolf Barbarian which can be pretty much be found as the definition of the word tank. He is named after the big read hairy monster in the Looney Tune cartoons that usually chases after Bugs Bunny. If you still don’t know who I’m talking about here is a link to the wiki. I figured the name fit since the character is big and hairy, and even though he wasn’t red having a floating red ball around was close enough in my book. I played through with Cyrax’s FA/MS zon.

Build and Gear Progression:

For a Wolf Barb, the build doesn’t even actually start until level 79 which is a steep requirement. I didn’t actually get to play the build until the start of Act 4 hell because of it. During the early levels I had no idea what I wanted to do in the meantime so I had points scattered everywhere, I essentially played a hybrid Frenzy/WW barb for most of the game. Invested some points in Double Swing, couple points in Frenzy, maxed BO, and then maxed WW, I eventually got 1 pt berserk in early hell for physical immunes. One point in masteries and relevant 1 point wonders (find item, battle command) as they became available. After we completed Act 3 hell, I was still shy of Level 79, so I did solo trav runs so I could at least play the build for the final 2 acts. At that point I respec’d and maxed out Shout/BO in the warcries, Sword Mastery/Iron Skin on the mastery side, and dumped remaining points into Nat Res, I might drop a couple more points here or Find Item, I’m not sure. Stats never change, early game it was just enough str/dex for gear and rest into vit. At the time of respec I went enough str for gear, enough dex for max block and dumped the remainder to vit. No energy ever.

Gear selection for early leveling, was the same as always pretty much, combination of cleglaws, and hsaurus’ at first with berserkers and angelic pieces. I switched to death’s set when I had enough dex for the swords with 3 piece angelic and duskdeep helm. I switched through a variety of weapons; I went from death’s swords to bloodletters, to butchers pupils, to oath BAs and switched to Grief PB/SS at the beginning of Hell. Helm I went from duskdeep to a neat rare barb helm, to IK to Arreats to Wolfhowl. Armor from Angelics to Shaftstop to Fort. Gloves/Belt/Boots were 3 piece IK for a while, which was switched to LOH/String/Treks at some point and string was eventually switched to Dungos. Rings/Ammy were angelics for a long time, swapped in ravenfrost at 45, and the other angelic ring and ammy to dwarf/mara’s when mara’s was equipable. Switch was war cry sticks until respec and switched to hotos. Inventory was stuffed full of mastery charms at level 42. Merc is might with reapers, but used insight for a while before hand. I’m still not convinced this is the best setup, as I’m pretty sure I can squeeze a lot more life and damage out of it.

Questing and Gameplay:

Questing was actually pretty enjoyable. These guys were both created from scratch so we had an even back and forth of who was doing the killing. Early levels and most of normal my double swing/frenzy would take out most without problem, which was helpful since Cyrax didn’t have his main skill until level 30 and no insight to fuel MS until level 27. A few levels after level 30 though and most of Nightmare Cyrax took out most enemies, especially once we hit level 42 and his inventory was filled with fletchers charms. Freezing Arrow with pierce pretty much just shattered everything except cold immunes. At this point I was pretty much just spinning in a triangle pattern for fun in comparison except in Act 5 where there is an abundance of cold immunes. Through Hell though we both did pretty well and it was fairly even, but I was more there for tanking purposes than killing purposes, and tanking things that are frozen is easy to do. I don’t recall any difficulties except for dual physical/cold immunes. They were slow but one point berserk usually took care of them. After respec we just had to wait for decrep to kick in.

Gameplay for a wolfbarb is obviously not complicated, buff with war cries, shift into wolf, kill things, un-shift and use find item as warranted, and repeat. It was pretty simple for most of the end game with little to worry about in terms of losing life with max block, huge defense, 50% DR, huge life leech and over 4.5k life.

Interesting finds:

Don’t remember anything amazing, although we did find a few more uniques than in the last couple of playthroughs I’ve done.

Future Plans:

More tanking? Pretty much as safe a build as can get, so I can play him whenever I’m not at the top of my game. Will probably be making a few runs to trav to reach at least the high 80s if not low 90s and be a beast in MP games in between.

What barbarian build is the easiest and the safest? The answer is obvious: a singer. Combine 4k life with mass stun and 105 FCR! Slap on two Spirits (both in eth Claymores, ofc), Skin of the Vipermagi and rare amulet with FCR and GO!
The trip was extremely easy and quick once I got a motivation (Wolfhowl). I made a serious mistake though: I have fallen under the assumption that 1.13 will flood me with a heavy rain of high runes. So I expected to have the endgame equipment by.. well.. by the end of the game :D If I only knew how wrong I had been back then...

I made an eOath Highland Blade and a Lawbringer PB and respec'd the singer to a Frenzy barbarian. The plan was to run Arcane Sanctuary for runes. No good: the Ghosts were constantly getting knocked back from the "bridges" with Sanctuary's pulses.

I got tired of waiting and made a wolf with the eOath mentioned above. It was a descent weapon: good damage and 6fpa resulted in nice DPS. But I wanted more than that.

Can you imagine how my hands were shaking when I was making a Grief PB? However the roll was almost as good as I wanted (it threw a wolfbarb from 6 fpa to 5 fpa, but a werebear paladin, for instance, will still have 6 fpa with this weapon: +396 dmg, 38% IAS).
Two Vexes to make 2 HotOs were relatively quick.
It took much longer to make a Forti, but (to make a VERY long story short) I cubed another Lo about a week ago.

The priorities on my wolfbarb were quite clear for me - maximize Defence and Life for some beautiful LCS numbers (speaking of which: Lying Character Screen is Lying! According to my numbers, Feral Rage deals ~4.5k - 4.6k with Venom and Might active) while maintaining descent killing speed and 5 fpa:D

I've gambled for a 25 res Mara (https://diabloii.net/forums/media/4306); I've Upped the String of Ears (and changed it for a TGV at lvl 91); I've put an Emerald into my helmet so that I could devote more points into vita; I have collected a crapload of 18-20 life Small Charms.
And after almost 5 months... Ladies and gentlemen, I'm glad to introduce Guardian YiffForFood, the Wolf Barbarian!

The second weapon choice is quite obvious: it's cheap, it's an ultimate weapon against the Undead. and it has a beautiful aura on it ^_^

This character is my favourite so far. He kills Baal's minions, councils, anything at usual MF lvl85 areas at p7-p8 with little to no problems. The only time I saw his lifebulb going down really fast was the battle against two /p8 bosspacks of infidels (amplify, fanat, might). However I still managed to run away instead of S&E.

Among good finds are:
- lit facet
- Trang-Oul's canned head
- Taebek's Glory
- +26 max dmg jewel
- Griswold's shield
- many more I won't even try to remember.

This character is fun, and I will continue playing him.

The journey started when she was just a little girl. Her parents were a mage and an amazon. Growing up she tried both spellcasting and hunting with arrows. She wasn't too good with either. One day when hunting squirrels she got angry because she kept missing. In anger she froze an arrow and shot it towards a squirrel. She didn't hit the animal, but the branch on which it sat. This caused both the branch and the squirrel to be frozen solid. She was very happy catching a meal. But when picking up the rodent she realised that it wasn't too tasty as it was still frozen. This made her thinking how she could avoid this next time. It occurred to her that she also knew some fire spells. So she thought it was better to have her meal already nicely roosted then when it's frozen. Next target was a bird sitting in a tree nearby. Now she enchanted her arrow with fire. Again she didn't hit her target directly, but in a fiery explosion the target was hit anyway. When she got near she was in for another disappointment the bird was not nice and crispy, but burned black.
And so she moved on to the dark world of Diablo.

Gameplay:
Easy play throughout the game. Only 2 problems with this char.
First were the ancients. Had my only NDE there. Had to reroll them a few times because they killed my merc to fast. Had the trouble of the leaper (Korlic?) being extra fast. He kept coming for me instead of valk or merc and because he was extra fast I couldn't get rid of him for quite a while. Finally managed to split them up. Valk was keeping 2 of them busy and my merc and I were working on the leaper who finally decided to go for the merc. We were doing fine and got him to about half his health. Then suddenly my valk came walking towards us which was an unwelcome surprise because the other 2 came with it. Needless to say the merc died shortly after. Had to split them up again. Managed to get whirly and thrower to attack my valk. Killed the thrower with frozen arrow. Was working on Talic when again leapy joins the show. Again a lot of running like a little girl. Somehow when I stood behind a pillar Korlic attack the valk. I didn't dare to help because I thought he might turn on me. So I waited till he died. Then went after Talic again. Used frozen arrow, but ran out of potions and almost out of arrows so most of the killing after that was done by my valkyrie. This took a long while because he was stoneskin but finally he went down. Leaving me with less than 50 arrows and cheering at my valk. Couldn't have done it without one.
The second problem was that without insight, which I only got in act IV of hell, it took a lot of potions. Even with it, but at least then it became bearable.

Had some luck with the drops. Best finds: Kuko, shako, tal mask, kelpie snare
Not so lucky on the HF. Can't remember nightmare. Drop probably so bad it's banned out of my mind. Hell not much better with only a Ko.

Retirement plan: running AT for better items and more grailies.
