After I lost my sorcy in the tombs due to a lack of decent equipment and blind teleporting, I decided not to remake her until I can provide at least some decent NM Mephisto running gear. Hence I started a Strafer, I had already found a 4os Shadow Bow so that was a good enough excuse. I named her Alleria (the Windrunner, character from DotA) not realizing I would actually be that quick. 63 FRW on top of Level 10 Vigor is quite a lot!

Thoughts

Easy sailing through Normal and Nightmare, no NDEs, almost full clears everywhere (exceptions being the Tombs and Great Marsh).

Hell on the other hand, for once, lived up to it's name.

Act I was pretty uneventful, I gave up on the full clears because it was starting to get a bit boring and because I was getting inpatient to start running the Pit. Quickly got the hang of it and there we're no problems except the long-ish fight vs. Andy.

For Act II, I tried to be as cautious as possible, so no NDE's there as well. Some of the PIs slowed me down a bit, but all in all it was quite easy and uneventful, much like Act I.

Act III is by far the most annoying and the most dangerous Act in Hell. The dolls in the Flayer Dungeon and in the Durance gave me a few mini heart attacks. All was well as I was overly cautious. I don't want to lose another character in just a week or so, and bowazons are not the best against dolls.

So far so good, I was thinking 'finally, my favorite Act, it's time for some action!' but it was actually quite boring. Merc died constantly due to the damned poison of the Knights, the River of Flames was full of annoying spawners and maggots, no souls showed up to make things interesting. The only problem was Conviction Infector which ate my valks as fast as the timer allowed me to cast them. The Diablo fight was well over 20 minutes. Apart from casting a prison on me once, which I couldn't kill fast enough (thankfully I could TP out of it) no scares there. GA to death as per usual.

Act V was a true nightmare. Ranged attacks coming from every direction, absurdly quick lancers showing up from out of nowhere and on top of that the moron kept dying, despite my constant retreating and Decoy castings to protect him. And I don't like feeding him rejuves except for when it's absolutely vital that he doesn't die. No major scares in the outdoor areas tho, apart from taking one too many arrows form a Bone Archer boss back in the Frozen tundra. The Ancients were a pushover too, I honestly wasn't expecting the to be nearly as easy.

But I've never ever ever ever ever been more frustrated than what followed. The WSK 1 was a cakewalk with mages and some other monsters I forgot. When I came to level 2, Burning Souls greeted me, along with Vile Witches and Ghoul Lords which took forever to kill due to their high physical resistance and my lack of damage. Somehow I managed to get to the waypoint which was right next to the Level 3 entrance, so far so good. I entered the Level 3 - Ghosts (PI), Hell Temptresses (PI), and millions upon millions of flying dart flayers. It would have taken me hours to clean this mess up and get to the Throne so I S&E. The moment I entered the WP in WSK 2 CE Souls started blasting at me - next please, I HAVE NO CBF! All in all it took me about 10 tries to get from the waypoint to the Throne and guess what was there? No. You're wrong. Brutal frenzytaur packs, Conviction Dolls, Might Extra Fast Dolls and on top of that Amp'ing Witches. Nice eh? I made sure to kill all of the dolls well away from the Throne room terrified Achmel's pack might raise some. (btw that was my second try of the Throne as well, the First time I got there the rolls where worse and there was a stair trap - Dolls, Frenzytaurs and Burning Souls.)

Wave 1-3 were easy, wave 4 killed my merc and 2 valks but fell down quickly enough. Lister and co. where parked due to lack of damage (or at least OW to stop the regen). They were healing quicker than I could damage them.

I had muled Riphook, Cleglaw's Pincers and Goblin Toe's (my only source of crushing blow in the whole GoMule stash) before the Baal fight to at least make sure it wouldn't take ages. He cloned himself a few times but I got him eventually.

If no one has noticed (even though I've mentioned it already) I have no source of CBF, which I read all too many times that it was mandatory for a bowazon. Well it isn't. I got hit so rarely I didn't miss it at all. For the first part of Hell I had a Darksight Helm stashed, just in case, but it never got used. Sure, the moment I get a Raverfrost, I'll slap it on, but it's not really necessary.

Edit: Oops, I forgot to mention the major AR problems in late Hell, despite maxing Penetrate. I was trying to squeeze as much points in Vitality as possible and the CtH was almost always in the 70-80% range, sometimes even less.

General

Slow to level until you get Skystrike. But then the speed really picks up. WWS is a killing machine until late Hell. She was easy and rather safe to play, not many NDE's. But she could also be a bit boring since strafe is the only attack and you can't even aim it. Slow Missiles and Decoy are truly 1-point-wonders. I used them both alot. The range of strafe + knockback makes it easy to kill enemies outside the screen!

While clearing the tomb in Hell i had to switch one ring to Nature's Peace since those damn skeletons kept getting resurrected! Actually, enemies like Shamans that can resurrect was a freaking pain due to Strafe only hitting the minions. Wave 2 in the Throne Room took forever to clear, perhaps 1pt in FA would help since then you could shatter the minions.

Physical Immunes was not a problem. I thought Amp triggered often enough to break them.

Hell Ancients
My Merc bit the dust after 2 hits but my valk could easily tank them. And since she is recastable it was easy to pick them off from a distance. No problems att all.

Hell Baal
Now this is the most annoying battle i've ever had in D2. He kept spawning his clone and there was appendages everywhere. And since you can't aim Strafe i kept firing att the appendages instead of Baal. My Merc died in about 2 seconds and i was constantly frozen by Baals attack. I had to go back to town every 2 seconds in order to heal my Merc since i really needed Might since i hardly did any damage to Baal. I used countless Full Rejuvs on my merc and even more TP's. Efter more then 30 minutes i managed to take him down and he didn't even have the courtesy to drop something even remotley useful.

Future plans
Full time Pit-Runner!
She will be my base-item hunter for runewords since i don't think i can pack much MF on her. Im not extremely impressed by her pit running abilities though. But perhaps that is due to my lack of points in Dex? I will probably need to find those LoH's soon to up my dmg vs demons. As it is now, my trapper is alot faster even with MF-gear. But i will atleast run with her until level ~85.

The journey
Life was easy; in the early levels, as I twinked her with the best gear I had. At level 30 Lightning Fury came available, which made everything ridiculously easy. Nightmare was easy, though some monsters were annoying. Late Nightmare stuff became a little more tricky from time to time, but it was nothing special. A FE LE Lister took her life down to about 200, though.

Pretty much everything up till this point was done at /p8, but when I started Hell, it became obvious to me I would do the rest of Hell at /p1. Not that the monsters were too dangerous, but the lightning immunes were just too tedious. Also, the first lightning and cold immunes started popping up. Also, my navigation skills navigation skills lacked severely. All in all, Act 1 was a breeze. So was Act 2. Duriel was a joke. Tyrael was happy to see me.

Act 3 was easy, but the Council put up a short but intense fight. The Durance of Hate was tedious; Dolls were managable with ~50% fire resist, 35% DR and 75% blocking, but of course I had to encounter a group every five meters or so. Urdars are lightning immune, 50% cold resistant AND already have much life to begin with, so they were a pain, too. The Council at level 3 nearly got the drop on me. Mephisto was initially very dangerous, as he received Fanatism from a Council that apparently decided to spawn outside his usual room.

Act 4 was easy up till the River of Flame. The lightning immune Abyss Knight really have hurty elemental attacks. It should be noted that, from Lower Kurast up till now, Fade triggered a grand total of ZERO times, despite being hit several dozens, maybe hundreds of times over and also deliberately standing in fires. I had to restart the River of Flame twice because of dangerously enchanted Uniques. A few times my life dropped below 300 and it really ticked me off. If I had died, I'd feel cheated out of a Guardian. I know it's not really true, but not having Fade triggered once in that period was just sooo improbable. I even re-equipped and S&E'd, being almost convinced that some bug prevented it from triggering, but it didn't help. I shrugged it off and continued. After a while it did start triggering again, though. Anyway, Hephasto was a meat shield at best, and the Forge dropped something nice ( <-- looky, I'm actually Faded!). The Chaos Sanctuary was rather easy, and Diablo dropped without having done any real damage.

Act 5 was surprisingly easy on the whole. Gloams gave me a hard time in the Frozen River, but it was nothing special. The three Ancients were more tedious than difficult; as soon as I found the Arreat Summit I triggered the fight, without further preperations, because I happened to be Faded at that time. Not that it helped out much, in retrospect... oh well. FINISH HIM!! FATALITY!!
The Worldstone Keep was easy except for level 2, where Gloams spawned. Once again, I took it easy and it was no problem. I don't think I mentioned yet how awesome Decoy is? I haven't? Well, it's awesome.
The Waves went down surprisingly easy, and so did Baal. His droppings were nothing special, of course.

Well, im totally new to this, really happy to see this char completed. I enjoyed this char and HC as a whole. I was in the middle of the road for so long wanting to try HC but doubting about losing really good gear in a split of a second.
But those days are long gone, i really want to put focus on HC. It's the diablo i enjoy.
I will focus mainly in untwinked gameplay with some twinked efficiency builds here and there.

In terms of gameplay i was really amazed how well duress performed on merc (Ilzan i love you). I got the Um from countess while farming a Lum for smoke. And that runeword just carried me all the way to Baal.

Other than that, pretty straightfoward build, i started with poison javelin. Then moved to LF and in early hell respected to Fishy.

It was really hard to beat ancients, it took me almost half an hour and i almost ran out of mana pots.
Obviously Maggot lair was also a pain in the ass, i remember a couple NDE there and also in plains of despair due to crazy bosspacks.

I messed up the skill placement from the prescribed NF FishyZon. The reason being, this was my 2nd attempt at a WSK FishyZon, the first getting deeds from Hell Ancients. I had followed the NF build guide but those Ancients just kept on coming big time. So in this 2nd attempt I decided to get a Valk as an extra meat shield. Points in Valk meant dropping point placement in CA/FA. My FA is enuff to freeze villains for a few seconds but not kill them, letting merc and Valk clean up the mess.

For Hell Ancients I used a Life Tap wand to keep merc and Valk alive. Merc died (no surprises there) but Valk kept on truckin. She really is a good tank.

After Guardianing her I ran some Hell Cows. LF really does pwn ***. I think this is where I want to keep her.

Questions: should I respec so I have a str8 LFZon, meaning no Valk? Valk is such a life preserver in HC. And I don't think I'll respec to make a strict NF FishyZon, not right now. (I aint that good yet. I'll make another Zon for that purpose.) How many people run Hell Cows without a Valk or merc?

Hell Ancients were long hard battle. Thanks Nightfish gave me strength to face ancients regardless what mods they may have.

Since couple of weeks ago, I didn't have luck to reroll ancients, I decided to take what ever the game throw at me, as Nightfish does. So I was ready to let her die. Upon ancients appear, I spotted migh aura. Then there was LE/spectral hit leaper (his lightning bolts poisoned my zon at first "hit").
my merc died at one hit, not a good sign. Lucky there was no Cursed, so I thought at least I have a chance. After long running around while shoot arrows, I noticed I hardly damaged them at all. However there was no time to check, I could only run and fire. the leaper was down at first, this gave me a little breathing space. Then my nightmare became true, both thrower and WW were stone skin, there was FE as usual. I also found out the little axe throw was extremly deadly. My zon can only take one hit (might aura still there). Lucky that was the only hit she ever took. After another 10 mins or so, only the WW left, and I had the last roll of potions. without the help of the other two, WW was powerless even he has might aura.

After the battle, I noticed I used close to 400 arrows in total, without counting those free magic arrows!

WSK was interesting as well, I was welcomed by gloams, big bullhead, OKs, bone spear snakes, and blood stars. Every single level was giving me some kind of the worst packs.

Baal's minion was easy, LF took them out really fast (I thought I should make some use of my backup skill).

She might run some cows if I feel like later, but she can now retire at the moment.😁

When i reached act 5 i quickly started running pindle and his boys for levels in order to be able to equip the one harlequin crest that didnt get lost at the event with mephisto. Also sporting an um rune i used my second larzuk on the harlequin and placed said um therein. At this point I was a bit concerned as I had about 10% lightning and cold resists going into Hell. This meant i went for about 40 cow runs after finally finishing baal. I did manage to pick up some resist all rings, but I still was pretty low at lightning resist and was forced to give up all my mana steal.

Even though my resists didnt get any better I went into hell and quickly got to act 4 where i stopped due to finding a Fal rune. I had earlier found a ko rune which i didnt think i was gonna use, but now i started to see visions of obedience wielding mercenaries ripping through everything.
In order to find a good base for the obedience i stared running AT at players 3. And even though i didnt find any polearms with 5os or even the possibility I did find this:

Wow. In all my years of playing d2 ive never seen a legit ber. What do you even use ber in? I looked it up again and started drooling over chains of honor. Seeing that i needed an Um and an Ist I promptly added countess to my runs and added light elite armors to my watchlist.
Now I still couldnt find any bases for my Obedience. Sure I found a few white giant threshers and threshers, but neither wanted to get 5os with the cube recipe. I kept at it for days (my run time was pretty bad so the number of runs each day might be around 10), when the next statistical anomaly occurred:

She joins Guardians Soulfire and Legion, my MF sorceress and skellimancer, for indefinite retirement.

Anyway, so that's me. But before I go, I'd like to see the windforce go back out into the community. I'm sure that there's someone who has some use of it, after all. But this will not be a normal giveaway. There really isn't much worth saying about her adventures. She pretty much flew through everything. I did park one monster, it was LI, CI and Stone Skin and I just couldn't be bothered waiting for my Merc and Valk to bore it to death. No NDE's that I can remember, lots of "not enough mana" though.

I'm a little disappointed with her damage output though. Even at level 90 when she is finished she will only be doing 1-1400 CS damage, and 1300-1400 FA damage. I was hoping to run the WSK with her and then finish off with Baal and his Minions, but that might not work out so well. We will see. An infinity for my Merc sure would speed things up! :rolleyes:

After years of playing D2 off and on (always on bnet) in about November of last year I came upon this community and was drawn into SP. I gave up, and decided I would just run AT and Meph until I could try to complete Tals Set and try WSK with a sorc.

Then I came upon the FA/LF zon guide by NightFish and IRunBaalLOLOLOL was born (The name was just a placeholder until I could think of something better, but I just never did...I guess I'm Lazy :D)


So without further ado, The Gaurdian:

In hindsight I put like 146 base STR on her, but with all the +Str I get from items in this build that prob wasted at least 40 Vita points. The good news is, I have plenty of life as it is, so I prob wont rebuild her, and now I have more flexibility with gear if I ever decide to bump up her MF.

With NF's advice, I decided to skip the Valk, and with + skills my pierce is around 70% so the rest of my points will synergize LF for even more pwnage.

Comments:

Norm was the usual. I dont have a Raven Claw, but with Khalims flail and sigons set I pounded thru until I could pick up CS. This skill is amazing, and took me all the way thru Norm/NM (Also as I picked up LF and by then it was GG).

Hell was where the fun began. I entered hell at around level 70 and with my FA not fully synergized, LI's were annoying to say the least, and as everyone knows, Mana is a huge issue. I will say that going thru hell I was extremely worried that this build was not going to live up to the hype in WSK. I did fine in A1 and A2, but in A3, I had a really tough time with dolls in the durance (having to scout with decoy and res my merc every turn) and then in Durance 3 I had to basically run for my life, as I could take out the group of council members down there. (Several NDE's.)

After finally beating down Meph, I headed to A4 and was in for more humbling. I dont know if its just me or what, but the Venom Lords must have hella Light res, b/c my Light attacks barely phased them. And ofc in RoF, the mages are LI, but casting decoy on top of the group causes them all to melee and buys enough time to FA them down. The biggest trouble I had was the final seal of the Choas Sanct. The Lords pwned my merc, and my decoy in 1 second and swarmed me. I ended up just having to run for my life and kite them around until I could whittle them away. Needless to say I was starting to worry that LF wasnt going to be strong enough (even though I had something like sLvl 31 at the time. Big D got pwned by CS, nothing to see there.

Then Act 5 came along, and man did things start looking up. Since 90% of the mobs here are CI, all the sudden I was barely using my bow switch, and since the packs in A5 are usually densely packed, LF started to rip the bad guys apart. I reached the Ancients at level 81, with no problems whatsoever, easily took them out on the first roll (all easy mods, I got lucky). I put the kelpie on the merc, and CS'd the 2 non LI's (separated them of course) and used jab for the final ancient (which was a ton more efficient than FA which I tried at first but started to run out of mana pots).

Finally, what this char was built for...The WS K and Baal. And man was I impressed. Now that all is said and done my zon was sporting about 1100 life, the DR from SS and Shako, max LR and mostly maxed all res, the Light Absorb from Tgods, and over 300 mana from shako+soj. With insight, I had no mana issues, and the few times I did have to pot I picked up mana pots right away due to the sheer abundance of them all over wsk. My first map roll gave me a nice map that only requires a little doubling back in one place so I kept it. My first run thru the keep netted me no souls, and mostly pigmys which LF makes short work of. In about 10 runs, I have yet to see a packed TR, the waves fall to LF like dominoes, and we all know what kelpie + CS means for baal.

I have the screenie of my first baal kill, along with my Gaurdian page (cuz im just so proud) and I will post them when I get home :nod:

Notable finds:

I picked up Griswolds Vortex, in the maggot lair. Other than that, um rune from HF and thats about it. I'm hoping her luck will improve in WSK.


Anyways, thats her story. She is still not my highest level char (my blizz sorc takes that at 87) but she will be soon. I will be running WSK exclusively, attempting to meet my final D2 Goal before D3 comes out.

I want to create a sept of Glowing Guards (All wearing their class sets).

Final Note: I am now a firm believer that this is the BEST build for the WSK, IMO. Safest goes to the necro but god its boring. And this zon is 1000 times safer in WS K than my Blizzwaller is in the Den of evil. It really opened my eyes how safe this zon is with a defiance merc as a tank and decoy to group things up when its hairy. She has a hard hitting attack in all situations (even FA killed really fast for my tastes) and jab is a very nice 3rd backup to help the merc take down LI/CI 's that are stone skin or w/e. I love this zon, and even tho I planned orginially to run WSK with a sorc, I dont think that I ever will, esp since I play in HC.

Over 30 attempts to make a Guardian, and now...Furyzon.

You will learn nothing new here; no innovative techniques, no imaginative gear ideas, no game-play insights. I used the Jek Lightning Zon build guide, and went for the LF/FA balance. In retrospect, I seldon used the FA branch becaues my Act 2 Defensive merc and Valk took care of most immunes, and a couple of nice poison charms helped me wear them out.

Mostly, my heartbeat went up and my style of play became more and more careful as I approached the final scenes. I recently read where Nightfish said it's NOT about patience, but I have lost 4 characters in their 80's in the WSK because I was not vigilant enough. This time through, it took me 45 minutes and 11 merc deaths to find the WSK waypoint because EVERY swinging monster was LI. I would have recast the game hoping for a better group but my last waypoint was Ancients, and it was a long way to the Ancients portal.

I'm numb. I can't believe she did it, and now it's time to recognize the folks who made it possible. This is a victory for the SPF, because three other players were unselfish enough to share equipment. This would NEVER have happened in Bnet. They are:

Early on, Milb gave me several valuable HC pieces to get me started, and never failed to encourage me to stick with it.
VCROW came next, with a Spirit shield (at a time when I didn't have a Shael to my name) and a 6 soc phase blade for my Pally, plus several lovely items which served me well on my journey.
And finally, Lprman had a givaway in which he shared a massive amount of items. IIRC, my merc weapon, and my weapon, mask and boots all came from him.

This character was a far better killing machine than my Barb but it was a lot more risky and I felt on the edge of my seat all the time, especially when Gloams were about, I can't count how many times I also got scorched by them! I wasn't given an easy ride through Hell, they spawned in nearly every place they could, Great Marsh, Plains of Despair, Glacial Trail type area, Frozen River, WSK 1, WSK 3 and the ToD :badteeth:

The Ancients were also an absolute nightmare, they kept destroying my merc almost right at the start so I realised I had to tank them. Due to good block and D/A/E I wasn't getting hit too often but they were taking 1/3 - 1/2 of my life in one go!

Finally, when I thought I was done with only the Minions and Baal to go Lister spawns Fanaticism/Cursed. I wasn't impressed... They munched through my merc and valk after I had only gotten a few LFs off and they started chasing me, I had no TP open so I had to loop around the back of them and run towards the bottom of the map, I was worried Baal would decrep me and it would be all over but I survived. I went back to town refilled, rehired my merc and returned to the ToD and kicked Lister's ***, not after he got my merc and valk again though....

Baal unsurprisingly was simple, and also unsurprisingly he dropped crap :laugh:

However, I did make a couple of nice finds on the way through the game, I found a HoZ off NM Meph, an Arreats in Hell Flayer Jungle or Great Marsh and I got an Um at Hell Hellforge, which may not be the highest rune, but it was probably the one most needed at the time.

I think this is long enough now....

Getting her through the game isn't nearly the achievement Ulath was or PaleEnchantress would have been had she lived, as Celes received a few twinking items. With the ancients, things went more smoothly than expected. I had to respawn them 5 times before none of them were FE. The third time, though, Celes saw her life passing again before her eyes. Korlic was extra fast and FE and he dashed up to her right as she was getting ready to set up the TP. He pulled back his vicious polearm, he started to swing and.... he vanished as the TP was up just in time. Phew, talk about close calls. The one time they didn't spawn FE was really easy. Celes whipped out her lycander's and dished out open wounds while the Valk singlehandedly tanked Korlic and the Whirler (whatever his name is). The merc and Celes took care of Madawc in the mean time.

Conclusions I can draw from her:

1)Using bows isn't what it was. I don't know if it's the ¾ weapon damage that's new in the final, or if it's just the fact that LF kills so damn quick, but I was a lot more happy with my beta-zon. She pwned. Sure, that lady had the windforce, but even before she got that she was doing a lot better than Celes. I'm not even sure I want to write a small guide about her as she sucks so bad when using a bow. Well, that's not entirely fair. There are some things she can kill quickly, Demon Imps or Stranglers. But against durable enemies like Urdars she can't do a thing. Those are the merc's job.

2) Twinking cheapens the accomplishment a lot for me. Not twinking takes too long and gets frustrating if you can find what you're looking for and it's terrible if your char dies right after entering hell after you spent a week MFing for stuff, but twinking leaves you with sort of a hollow feeling.

3) Mercs without shaftstops are real pushovers. Even when backed up by a valk.

4) Even had I maxed penetrate, my AR would still have sucked. There is no way I could hit decently in hell without angelic support. My chance to hit with strafe was below 60% most of the time. I doubt Dex and Penetrate alone can solve that problem. Some serious AR is needed here. (I took an educated guess at this by checking how much one point in dex / penetrate added)

5) Open Wounds kills even the most immune enemy. In my case it was PI/LI Grand Vizier of Chaos. Nothing I had could damage him, safe for open wounds and my 1-2 cold damage charm.

Thoughts:
Well, what can I say? Take one part lightning zon and one part ice zon and you got Haley. I wanted a new zon to MF the WS K (go go mass acroynms) and my first idea was to go strafe / LF / CS. However it occurs to me that strafe and lightning skills need completely different things from their gear, whereas lightning + FA need similar things, i.e. +skills. So, poof goes the Strafe / CS / LFzon, hello LF/CS/FAzon.

Early game went real quick, thanks to my new low level gear. Aside from the Gul, that's the best thing that came out of my 3:20 sorc. I now know how to make normal go by faster. At lvl 30 my mini-titans took over (rare amazon javelin, replenishes quantity, +2 jav skills). LF and CS completely obliterated the rest of normal and nightmare as is to be expected. Once she hit hell I had maxed FA and near maxed it's synergy (left LF at 12 or so for a while because it was strong enough). Now she was able to equip her "final" gear as well.

I stopped looking for a +3 matriarchal bow. Got bored with that ****. So I just went with a +3 GMB and made melody instead of harmony. Screw valks, nobody needs them anyway. Especially not with freezing arrow. You ever seen a sorc with a valk? Nuh uh. And Haley is 10x more durable than one of those hos with their natuarl hair color and B-sized.... erm, yeah. As a tradeoff I gave her a point in dodge and evade. Good idea. Hitting with LF all the time is for losers anyway. I love how the graphics show up but nothing happens. Sweet. Well, at least it's not as bad as with strafe. Now, when she hit 85 I did put her remaining points in valk just because she was already screwed with the bug. Slvl 13 valk does live long enough and helps avoid the miss bug. Overall she'd still be better off without D/A/E and the valk in favor of points in another lightning skill.

At any rate, the build is sound and quite fun to play. FA could be a little more powerful but it's a decent secondary attack. LF pwns mobs, CS pwns bosses even without CB and of course it eats regular fat enemies for breakfast, too (gg no re frenzyztaurs). Pretty neat overall. She had a few NDEs, though. One was especially sweet, involving a dozen stygians and LF. They rushed in out of the dark while I was shooting at a bunch of cadaver thingies in durance 2. Well, needless to say they all died and it left me with an empty looking lifebuld afterwards. Which was interesting because I quaffed 3 rejuvs while they went off. Talk about lucky timing.

Ancients were easy. The 2 non-LIs didn't last 10 seconds thanks to CS but the LI stone skinned one took my merc a while to whittle down (had no CB with me). No problem, though, Haley could tank him while the desert man chipped away. 5 minutes later it was over.

That was about it for dangers, though. Aside from that the build is foolproof and I have high hopes for her in the WS K, the friendly little place I like to call "home".

She already got a few decent items, namely Ondal's Staff, her own Stormshield, Windhammer, JadeTalon, and her two awesome hellforge drops: Hel and Hel. Whoop-dee-frickin-do. Go to hell, forge. First Baalrun gave her another stormshield. Next one stays on the floor just like the green colossus blades. Over the last few days I did some more runs with her and she might well be the second best WS K runner I have. Not only is she lucky, but she's fast, safe and can easily take out any spawn the WS K can offer.

Conclusion: Sweet. Just sweet.

Guardian RangerJoe - lvl 79 Paladin (#31)

As he bored me quite a bit I'll just give a brief summary. Basically he just max'd Holy Shock, Holy Freeze and their synergies. 1 Point in Holy Shield and Zeal. The main idea was to use the Widowmaker for guided arrow to deliver the holy shock / freeze damage. Sounds good but is totally stupid. This way he attacks 10x slower than with zeal and isn't any safer due to lack of crowd control. Damage is way less than I was hoping for too. Maybe if I had 10 aura skillers he'd be better. And yeah, the bow is just dumb, sorry. I managed to do it this way for all of act 1, then I got bored and went to Lightsabre / Whitstan's. Against act bosses I used a fleshripper / goblin toe combo. He's going to retire faster than you can say "paladins suck ***". Hellforges: 2 x Hel. Best find: Windhammer, Javelin Skiller, Tal's Armour (Lister). Oh thank you god in heaven, I managed to get a pally to guardian.

Conclusion: Go to hell, Stormranger. Go to hell and die.


Saturday
And for the Hattrick: fun to play, innovative, hotkey intensive, big on strategy, this character is non of these. Presenting:

Guardian HAMMERDIN - lvl 84 Paladin (#32)

Okay, seriously, I had high hopes for this char due to the hype. And I gotta say I really, really tried to like him. I won't say much about the build, as it's simple and commonly known. Gear-wise he's pretty stacked which makes the result all the more saddening. HotO, GAngel, Spirit Shield, Mara's, 2 x SoJ, Arachnid Mesh, he's got it all. Total of slvl 36 Blessed Hammer. 10k damage. But that's not the problem. More on that later. Anyway, the way through the game was utterly uneventful. He does get in NDEs far too often for my liking, though. Getting cursed or just plain surrounded can be a pain in the ***. Hammers don't hit everything around him so he can find himself in a pinch every once in a while. Stygians were a pain in the *** as well. I gotta give it to him though, for beating up single targets on p1. Smite really is cool for that and I finally got to use my shiny golden caduceus for something.

His main downfall is that I compared him to my other MF chars and he does not win a single category. Heck, he doesn't even come in second place most of the time. Okay, the hammer does an assload of damage. And that's all good and well for getting through the game, which he did manage on P8 without any major issues. Problems arise when he faces moving targets. I know how to aim the hammer, that's not the thing. What pisses me off is how slow it whirls around. *****es like the succubi or little flayers back away after I move in so in the end I need to chase them one by one. Any advantage the suckerdin might have gained against enemies that do charge him - and are thus easier to kill - is lost again due to this. Not to mention that he's not nearly as safe as he'd need to be for MFing the WS K. The MFzon I just introduced to you totally dominates him when that run is concerned. Okay, the paladin might close the gap if I ran that place on p8, but I don't want to do that so why should I care? Well, actually I think ranged attackers might give him big problems. Especially all the hell witches. I can see him coming out on top in p8 pit runs but again, I'm not interested in p8 pits. P8 tunnels he gets obliterated by my blizzard sorc. He doesn't make a good cow runner either, as he's way too unsafe for that. As soon as he grabs that amp curse he's gotta cheese it or he's pushing daisies. For HC MF I find him unsuited, or at least not above average. He probably excels at runs I don't want to do like the chaos sanctuary or something. Hellforges were Pul and Mal, Hellmeph gave a shaftstop. That will be all. Retired.

Conclusion: Judged and found lacking.

And finally there was still my lvl 68 blizzard sorc parked at the hell hellforge from my first try to run a character there. I took her to do a few runs in act 1 normal to get some levels and got an Um from the countess for my troubles, pretty neat for 5 runs. Incidentally, I think runes found questing or MFing > runes found from the countess > runes from the hellforge. At least as far as the "whoo-hoo" factor is concerned. The bigger the surprise and all that good stuff. Anyway, meet:

I won't describe her at all as she's my 8th sorceress and doesn't really count for the sept, plus she already had her 5 minutes of fame. The reason why I took her past baal is that I want her to be my new cowgirl. IceQueen doesn't have more than 1 point in static and I believe a slvl 20+ field will definetly speed my p7 cows by a lot. And well, you can never have enough backup sorcs in HC, right?

Conclusion: Been there, done that.

Jab was supposed to take care of act bosses. Decoy was a complete and utter waste of points. I chose not to get a valk once again, due to the D/A/E bug and because I knew I dont need a valk. The main reason I dumped those points in decoy was that I wanted to know how much damage it can take if levelled. Not much. I'd have to recast her that often that my net gain would be nill if I used her. So I just move a bit from time to time to avoid getting hit. I probably have a good amount of skillpoints left over, though.

I really like that one. Vigor is pretty cool. Damage is decent, if not great. Prior to this one, I used a Matriarchal Harmony bow. Also nice. Shoots a little faster but lacks the Grand Matron's punch.

The main things I wanted here were 50% slow in total, 5% dual leech (belt) and some open wounds / crushing blow (boots) for act bosses. The 2 raven's I needed to use the matriarchal bow (187 dex needed) and just left them on. Atma's is okay but doesn't really help much, I feel.


The Journey
Well, there isn't that much to tell, actually. After a year of absence it was neat to get back into the game for a while. The first act I was careful but I picked it up again pretty quickly. By act 3 I was flying as usual. That said, she had a lot of NDEs. Especially in confined areas, this build runs into trouble. More than once she popped into rooms only to find out that OOPS!!! 3 boss packs... She always pulled through, though. 50% slow is really quite brutal. Twice I managed on the last of my 4 rejuvs, though. Close calls. It might have been more prudent to use darksight instead of blackhorn's and slap delirium on my might merc (who wore shaft, vamp and insight (which was unneeded) this time through the game).

As I said earlier, vigor is pretty neat. Almost felt like an assassin on burst of speed. A couple times I shot bosses down at near melee range and outran the cold nova they released on death. Pretty neat.

Act bosses were usually taken care of with Jab. Took a while too. At first I didn't realise why, but then it hit me: I wasn't hitting anything. I only had 5k AR with this one. Again, laziness prompted me to leave it like that. It was good to compare this to my usual approach of either using 3 angelic jewelry or demon limb's enchant. I doubt I will play a lot of AR dependant chars with less than 10k again. All the damage in the world doesn't do me any good if I'm not hitting. Seeing how bow atma's and the ravens were unneeded I should definetly have switched.

The biggest challenge to my characters, usually, are hell ancients. She managed them quite nicely, though, on her first try, without using a single potion. It seemed almost too easy. Again, speed paired with her nasty slow made short work of them.

At any rate, Sessaria is now retired, which she would be anyway, even if I still did MFing. She's not truly suited to run any area, at least not more so than any other of my characters. It's been a fun two days with her, but it's time to move on now. Bye bye, Sessy. On the ancient debate of MS vs Strafe, I still like strafe a lot better and that will not change.


Well, another one down, I have no idea how many to go. I need to take stock of what I have already done one of these days... It might take another year or more, but sooner or later I'll finish this septsept thingy. :)

Finds were pretty meh, other than a +4 Arrioc's and a Hellslayer from Baal. Forges were so bad they weren't even worth remembering. I didn't get my Skullders/Shako on her till A3 hell so she no MF till then.


So now that all the numbers are out of the way, let's get down to the nitty gritty. This is my 4th Guardian since my last restart, my 11th or 12th ever on SP, and somewhere around my 18th ever including my old ones on bnet. Out of ALL of them that I can remember, this girl was easily the most fragile. NDE's were a constant thing. Conv gloams, fant dolls, stair traps, conv extra fast extra strong ventaurs in chaos sanc when my FR was at like.. 7 without conv, it all happened to this girl. I swear I couldn't go 2 minutes without running into a nasty extra fast/cursed/aura pack. :coffee:

This isn't to say she wasn't strong, anything not LI just melted away and even with my crappy Wizendraw FA was strong enough to do the job. I just really felt the lack of CC hard and not having Cannot be Frozen anywhere on my gear didn't help. The merc was useless, he rarely ever died but that was because nothing payed him any attention! Everything rushed straight for my zon and did their best to faceplant her.. and very nearly did quite a few times.

That said most of my problems came in A3 and A4 hell, once I got to A5 it was all downhill. Only had to reroll the ancients once due to Cursed and they came up FI, CI, and LI/CI on the second try. CS dropped the two non-LIs and then I parked the thrower with a pillar between us and let my merc take him down. Flew through WSK with good spawn luck but gloams/dolls/vamps in the throne room. Easily handled since there was no conv and no OKs.

Plans for this girl are all WSK runs, that's what I made her for. First I need to optimize my charms a little for more CR/FR and try to fit a Gheeds in there, also still on the lookout for a Melody base. I also might try a HF merc instead of defiance since he doesn't tank anything anyway and HF might keep anything extra fast out of my face for the second or two I need to fry them.

When my Barb reached final victory and killed Hell Ball, i had feeling, that i need some rest from melee characters...So i choosed CHL/FO sorceress.At Normal difficulty i maxed CHL and Lightning mastery and everything seemed easy until i made great stupidity at Act 1 NM and lost her.Pitspawn Fulldog and his pack ended her life very quickly with their ranged attacks.Just one careless teleport and my small sorc died...

She died, but i've been determined more than before finish my second character for this quest.

I choosed LF/CHL/FA zon, she killed Hell Ball yesterday and i'm very proud to introduce her as my second Sept guardian!

Unfortunately, i changed his weapon after killing Hell Baal, because he droped Cruel rare Stygian Pike or how its called...
But his original weapon was Cruel AMN Yari with 298%ED mod, so dmg was from 110 - 230 aproximately...he was doing around 500 - 900dmg, if i can believe the screen.He was rarely more than walking aura and he died too much (because of low LL and dmg).I foolishly do not spared more RAL's for better Bloodhelm...

The best item was Titans of course, they've been droped by random monster at Act 5 NM - Frozen tundra.I made screenshot, because these was my first one's.Rest of gear is easy to find during normal questing...

And now about runes...I had luck, when HEL droped from random monster at Act 2 NM, KO from chest somewhere at Act 3 Flayer Jungle NM, IO from superchest at Act 3 Sewers NM, second IO from superchest in Mausoleum at Act 1 Hell and LUM droped from Countess Hell (during the Quest run).As You can see, i had runes for Melody RW, but not suitable bow...

Gameplay events:


I need to say, this was really tough battle compared to my Barb.With life around 900 on the end i had around 5 scary moments and real NDE's.First was against LE, Convinction Hephasto in NM, i fought against him almost all the way back from Forge to steps to this map, only there i can stand behind my merc an kill him with my backup attack, lightning bolts from him were really painfull...Second at Act 3 Hell Flyers Jungle, pack of Extra fast, Extra strong flyers with some aura nearly killed me, when i just reached their part of map, also fight against Mighty, Amplified Councils at Travincal was really scary, then Damned Act 4 Hell Plains of despair (huge pack, the've been hidden behind walls) and of course Gloams at Frozen River at Act 5 Hell.

And now about Ancients...Tough, but not really dangerous battle at players 8 setting in NM, and then very very tough and dangerous battle in Hell (players 1)....I covered almost all free space on the Arreat summit by blue and red color, opened the seal and controlled their mods (maby 10 times).With Holy freeze and Might auras, AD, or if two of them spawned LI this fight looked for me badly...Finally they spawned with good mods, no auras, no Amplify and only one of them was LI (Madawc - thrower)...Somehow i split them up, my zon and my merc stayed behind one rock on the summit (Madawc was trying to kill just this rock and not me or my merc), so i had time to kill CI Korlic with Charged strike...Then i ran around summit and killed Talic with LF(i do not dared be too close to him) and finally i used my Freezing arrow against Madawc.And directly at this moment a recognized three stupidities, which i made...Firstly, my fight against Korlic and Talic tooked me too much time, so all super potions on the summit disappeared...Second, why i had not Malice RW prepared for my merc at stash is mystery for me....And third, maby the biggest fault...Why i don't buyed more packs off arrows from Larzuk...You surely catch it....I lost my last arrow exactly at the moment, when Madawc had more then half of his life bulb remaining...So, then remained only one posibillity.I must let my merc finish this work...But how, he can't stand long against Madawc's attacks?!! And his dmg is low...Hmm, I decided to use same trick like before, stay hidden behind the rock, let Madawc hit this rock and my merc finish his work...It tooked ages, but it was working...Now You can understand me, how happy i was, when Madawc finally died!End of story...

WK1,2,3 - not much to say about these places, only dangerous monsters there were gloams at lvl 2, but victory was near, so i passed through them.At last lvl were just CI, no LI , so it was easy...also Baal wawes of minions were killed easily.And Baal himself, to be honest, not piece of cake, bu he was heavily owned by Charged strike...

Oh, to complete this part, i need to say i opened my Portals on Arreat (while respawning Ancients) from normal inventory, i'm not using them from belt...

Short Version: Created Fishyzon, gave her some gear, killed Hell Baal, the end.

Slightly longer version: Joelle is my first non-tournament HC char. So no special restrictions for her. She got to use the items from the GoMule stashes of my deeded HC chars (8 Certain Death, 1 GwE) and borrowed some from my two tournament Guardians, Curry and shortcircuit. Selection wasn't that great, the tournament chars vendored lots of decent, but unusable gear (e.g. a Pul rune) and took the best stuff to their graves. Still, I got almost every item slot filled to my satisfaction (feel free to laugh at the javelins).
Single pass most of the time, just one or two extra Baals in NM. I had some pride left, so no S&E to avoid death.

The hard facts: LCS (Javelin slot) and LCS (Bow slot).
Skills are pretty much standard: 20 LF, 20 CS, 20 FA, 20 CA and 1 Pierce+prereqs and Decoy + prereqs. Additionally +5 in the bow slot and +7 in the javelin slot.

Joelle's journey turned out to be very uneventful. Pretty much as expected with a twinked cookiecutter. By uneventful I certainly don't mean no fun. She was insanely fast and near invulnerable through Normal and NM and huge fun in Hell.
I began twinking at level 9 with most of Sigon's and Civerb's Cudgel + some elemental dmg charms. At level 11 I completed Sigon's with the aid of Cathan's Seal+Sigil. From lvl 18 on, Joelle started using CS full time, aided by 2xManald and an Etlich (and a random javelin).
This setup carried her effortlessly through the first 3 acts. At around level 30 she got most of her endgame gear: Vipermagi, SoJ, Peasant Crown, Insight, Wizendraw... Kept Sigon's Gloves/Belt/Boots. Lidless and Ravenfrost came a bit later.
As a result she breezed through the rest of Normal and NM with ridiculous ease. Maxed CS first, then LF and had FA finished by the end of NM with some points in the sinergy.
For Hell I added a lot of resist charms and switched out the belt. Couldn't really improve on Sigon's Gloves+Boots... The javelin imbue isn't brilliant either. I had decided against max block, since I spent so much time in the bow slot anyway.
Still, no problems on /p3. FA rocks, even with low pierce (~55%) and crappy AR (~1,5k). Couple of scary situations, I wasn't used to enemies who were actually trying to hurt her ;)
The first really scary fight was against Diablo: he started out with killing the merc and imprisoning Joelle. Luckily a quick tp got her out of it. Kept her distance afterwards and picked at him with FAs.
The ancients took a lot of rerolls, somehow there always was a Cursed/Extra Strong among them. The actual fight probably took less time and was quite easy. No trouble in the WSK, even with my favourite combination of Souls and OKs. It's her designated hunting ground after all.

Finds: TO gloves, eth Bartuc's, Kuko and a better Wizendraw. I was expecting a bit more, she was packing 70-100 mf for most of the time (none in late Hell though). HF: Ort/Ko/Pul.

Thoughts: FA rocks, LF rocks, CS rocks - really not much that can go wrong. The decoy wasn't even needed once. Should be nearly as easy untwinked (if possibly a bit more mana pot intensive).
Definitely one of the most fun characters I've ever played (thank you, Nightfish!). Twinking was fun for a change, especially the whole overpowered/invincible experience in Normal and NM.

This is an easy character to play. No problems except I had to reset Hell Ancients twice when my merc died. LF takes take of everything non-LI very quickly. FA is great against LIs and for crowd control. I used Decoy and Slow Missiles a lot. Bosses go down fast with CS.

I will use her to run Hell Pindle on /p3. So now I've got dedicated runners for NM Meph (lvl 80 Blizzsorc), Pits + WSK (lvl 83 Trapsin) and Pindle. That was my first goal since I started playing again.

I got another Um from Hell HF. That means I've got 5 now. I will invest 2 in a Duress and a Crescent Moon for my Shock-Zealot.
