Now, what can I say about the Disciple set. It is a special set, because none of its parts give special bonuses when you have more than just this one item. Even worse, the general bonuses for more items are bad as well. Only the full set is useful (except LoH which may be used by itself). You get +2 skills, 100 mana and 50 res all. The minor bonuses are 150 defense, 22 poison dmg, 10 str and 10 dex... nothing you can't get elsewhere. For my build I looked for skills, resistances and mana, and there the set fit perfectly.
The mageazon by herself is amazing. My two guardians had a much harder time in hell. This one kills any non-CI foe in almost no time (ok, baal took a while). Immolation arrow has a timer, unfortunately, and can't be fired continuously. But it fried monsters well enough when they assembled around the merc. By the way, the merc is essential: you need something to stop the monsters in order to fry them and I had the idea to make a very high defense one. Well, plans change sometimes, but I kept the defiance merc nonetheless.
I had some trouble to decide which rings to use. I tried several, especially to overcome the huge mana costs. Note: mana leach just doesn't work. The physical part of the attack doesn't hit often enough. I guess the best would be just 2x SoJ.
