Malawi's Melee Magic Find pseudosept

In this thread I will post my results from a small MF-project of mine.

For me, it is important to come up with things to make the farming and game play feel “fresh” and break out of the meta now and then. After all, this is an ARPG with a “creative” aspect to it as well.

Here, my goal is to do 500 Pit runs and 500 Ancient tunnels runs, on players 1, with “magic find” oriented builds which only uses melee attacks as a way to kill monsters! It is a “pseodosept” in that sense that I will complete this task with one build per class, but I will not level a new char for the task but will use already “finished” chars and respec them.

Some additional “rules” imposed of me is not to change that much gear and skills between the two areas. Maybe change out a few charms, change a ring etc. But all in all it should be the same build for each area per character.

I have now completed two of the chars and will post their builds and results in more detail below. Here are the ideas I have for each class.

¤ Barbarian (finished) - I did not wanna do the zerker/concetrator which is a meta build. Instead I wanted to spin2win. But, because whirlwind is a multitarget attack skill, using find item (FI) will take quite some time. So, I decided to skip FI and focused on balancing movement/teleport speed, killing power with magic find %.

¤ Druid (finished) - here I went with a more or less standard fury/feral rage build. Not having teleport available once in wearform, I decided to invest heavily into run speed. Also, getting good maps was crucial for this char.

¤ Paladin - probably zealot with killing power solely from Grief phase blade. Rest just get decent fcr and as high mf% as we can. Mana after each kill might be useful because some mobs in these areas are not leechable.

¤ Assassin - probably just a kicksin with lawbringer phaseblade. Get decent fcr and get as high mf as possible.

¤ Javazon - charged strike. Will get 99 fcr for sure otherwise she is just unplayable.

¤ Sorc - enchantress, either Greif or Passion phaseblade. Merc will probably do as much killing as she so perhaps just try to build her “tanky” and get merc do the heavy lifting.

¤ Necro - poison dagger… no no no haha just kidding, never! Will just get amp damage curse, max bone armor and its synergies… here I will use Frenzy barb merc with dual Griefs, CoH and perhaps cure… just cast amp, telestomp and “boss” will be dead in 0,1 seconds boom, this is the char I am looking forward most to run :-D

Barbarian MF melee build & results

"Lazy 2 button WW" i.e. no FI just kill and move on

Because I choose to ditch FI, this meant I can now deal cold damage... in order to solve mana issues, merc could use Insight, and I could go with Azurwrath for its sanctuary aura - the only monsters in these two areas that can be immune to physical damage is undeads - and sanctuary aura makes you bypass ALL resistances on undeads in D2R. They will not be set to 0, they will be ignored. So the drawback is that you can not send their resistances into negative numbers.

Gear changes for the different areas:
Pits: Laying of hands and on swap: hoto + suicide branch for TP to pit entrance.
AT: Ghoulhide and on swap: harmony for running in lut gholein.

¤¤¤ Summary (what I consider worty of mention items) ¤¤¤

Grailers: 3 (Griswold Shield, Steel Pillar, Darkforce Spawn) (items remaining: 5)

9.3 point and above SU items: 10 (Griswold Shield, Griswold caddy (3sox),2 Shadow dancers same drop location lol, Earthshifter, Cranium Basher, Ghostflame, Halaberga's reign, Steel Pillar, Darkforce Spawn)

+Pul runes: 5 (2 Pul, 1 Ist, 1 Vex, 1 Jah)

Other good finds:
jewel with 15allres+8str
Rare circlet with 1barb+20fcr+resistances+manasteal+3mdr
Nightwings (+10%)

Quite happy with this build! Will probably play it even more in the future! Really nice MF WW barb I think! But, with inclusion of find item it will be even better.

Efficiency: 4/5 (not having FI just does not feel right... but it was at least fast as h**l)

Fun: 5/5 (quick and easy to play build, very fun)

Run times are not recorded because this is a chill-non meta project. I just go by feeling. Barb I would certanity do more runs of both in pits and AT, but perhaps add howl and FI. WW is just so nice that you do not have to "aim" so I guess it kinda goes in the "middle" of zerker and singer in that regards.

Druid MF melee build & results

"Fury/Feral rage"

Build:
Max: Lycantropy, Wearwolf, Fury, Heart of the Wolverine
1 point wonders: grizzly (because he is furry and cute)
Rest into Feral Rage

Main gear:
(Pits)
Reapers toll 'Ruby Jewel' to grant +274% enhanced damage in total.
Stealskull 'PTopaz'
Enigma Mage Plate (FRW + mf, still best in slot for this build despite almost no use of teleport)
Ravenfroat
Nagelring 30% MF
Highlords wrath
Rare gloves with 20% IAS, 25% mf and some lightning res

Because I choose to self-wield reapers, because it is hard to rely on merc on melee druid to proc decrep, I have merc a pride for more damage for myself.

Gear changes for the different areas:
Ancient tunnes - Changed Nagelring for Wisp Projector, three 7% mf small charms to three 11% Lightning res small charms, three 7% mf small charm to bone break sunder charm (12%) and we got 410% mf in there.

9.3 point and above SU items: 6 (Windforce x 2, Ghostflame, Deathcleaver, Gris Shield, Earth shifter)

+Pul runes: 3 (Vex , Pul (chest), Mal)

Other good finds:
Jool with 22% fire res and IAS
Cold facet +3/-4

Mixed feelings about this build. Pits was quite nice because of large areas which were quite easy to run past. Ancient tunnels was a chore, narrow and blocked corridors... Pits I might consider doing again but with even more FRW, maybe even ditch CtA on switch in favor for Harmony for vigour aura... Ancient tunnels with any kind of melee druid, never never again!

Efficiency: (pit 3/5, at 2/5) (no teleport in wearform hurts, but not so bad as I thought in the pit, but in AT it really hurt..)

Fun: 2/5 (the pit I might do again 500 more runs it was quite fun but then have even more FRW, ... AT never never again with this build!!!)

Next char in this project will probably be assassin or necro. Paladin will be last for sure.

I think I have that many 7% mf sc's otherwise some 6% will have to do...
Since this is players 1 Crushing Blow will be important. Phoenix shield is to get as much raw ramage as possible since it I can not use any kind of trap (because they are not melee skills)

First I have to level up another char 1 level from 96 to 97 doing EZ TZ's, and TheCanMan from 97,5 to 97,6 doing about 100 Baal runs...
