How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

thankyou very much.

Are their steps or a guide you follow when hunting magic items?
Like do you start with mephisto and then bail and then other monsters?
Can I see your list, or some sort of thing you follow so I can try it?

Thanks very much

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

You can check out this page from the stickies located at the top of the forum. Nightfish's MF Oddballs is a good start, as is the MF Guide by Hrus. Both of those guys know their stuff, so pay attention. All the rest of it is great, too, so take your time and grab a snack so you can wade through it all.

Sadly, your druid probably won't be the best character to begin doing some hardcore MF runs. People often go with Sorceress builds because their skill Teleport makes runs fast. Or they'll make fishymancers (Necromancers who utilize summons and Corpse Explosion) since their gear can all be tailored towards MF and their skill speed won't really suffer.

MF targets usually go in this order:
Nightmare Mephisto to get some basic mid-end game gear for a couple hundred runs;
maybe Nightmare Baal;
Hell Mephisto for 1,000+ runs for more elite gear NM Meph can't drop;
...and from here it's user's choice. Hell Pindle can drop every set/unique with six exceptions, but is very easy to reach. Hell Baal can drop everything, but it's a dangerous run. And then there's the area level 85 spots, like The Pit (Act1 Tamoe Highlands), the Ancient Tunnels (Act2 Lost City), the River of Flame, etc. Only the unique monsters and their minions can drop everything here, but they're generally the safer areas to run compared to Baal runs.

...Lots to read and comprehend, but if you're interested in the shiny loot like most of us are, read. And then read it again. It takes time to amass a huge amount of stuff, but it can be deeply satisfying if you're into like hoarding. ...And wasting a huge amount of time.

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

Hi all
As you know I am playing nightmare now, it is so hard compared to normal. Im almost up to the blood raven. I just started

I am finding waheed (desert mercenary) is dieing very very often, even to monsters such as fallen shamen etc. I know they are stronger now because im in nightmare but im sick of resurecting waheed.

I decided to hire a level 36 rogue mercenary with cold arrow. Problem is I cannot get a hold of a strong bow. The shop only sells weak 2-6 damage bows etc, when I was in the 5th act in normal their were way better bows.

Questions are - Are their any horodric cube recipes like the polaxe one I can use to make a good bow for her?

If worse comes to worse I can just go into normal, buy a bow, give it to her and then go back to night, mare. But I do not want to as all the maps would be reset and that would be a slight pain.

thankyou.

Im also curious to know, what resistances will the rogue mercenary need for act 1 nightmare? Mainly fire Im thinking?
Or does she need none at all for act one? Then i would be better off giving her as much defensive armour as possible, right/

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

No easy bow recipe like the polearm one. If you're only as far as Blood Raven, resetting your map isn't too bad. From the Cold Plains waypoint, you can follow the dirt paths to either the Burial Grounds (Blood Raven) or to the Stony Field, the next area. Finding your way shouldn't be too tough, and losing the map for the first three areas isn't a big loss.

The big thing, though, is that the Act2 mercs in Nightmare have different auras. Once you get there, my guess is that the Defensive merc would be good for you. His aura is Holy Freeze, which slows all enemies near him, even ones that can't be frozen normally. It means both you and he take less hits, which helps with survivability substantially.

Also, if you can find a means of Life Leech for your merc, that goes a long way. You probably won't find too many sets/uniques that help in your first playthrough. But if you can find a helmet with open sockets, you can drop in an Amn rune or some skulls to help him leech some life. Trust me, it's a big help.

My suggestion: Plow through as best you can, but as soon as you get to Act2 get yourself a new merc. The rogues... not as helpful as you want it to be. The auras from Act2 mercs are always a bonus, and they can tank some hits which takes some away from you.

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

Thankyou very much Thereadmenace, I am looking forward to reaching act 2.

I am now just looking for some quick advice as to where to put skill points. I know my account is not perfect, and I put skills where I shouldnt, but it was my first account so I did not need/want it to be the best.

Here are the most noticeable skills I have -
Summon grizzly - 9
Summon dire wolf - 9
Werewolf - 10
Lycanthropy - 9
werebear - 8

Everythign else is either 0 1 or 2.
I have not invested in fury or feral rage or rabies etc, as I do not fully understand how they are work/if they are worth it.
What do you guys/girls think? Should I keep putting puts on lycanthropy for more health, or start investing in feral rage or somthing of the like?

Thankyou very much

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

Fury gives you more attacks with one click, up to 5. That means you werewolf will hit a lot faster. In addition it gives you a considerable boost to damage, so it is definately worth it to put as many points as you can into that skill. It also gives you a boost to AR which you will probably need now to hit things reliably. Feral rage just need the one point in it to be effective. When you hit a monster when using Feral rage a green ball will start swirling around your wolf, your walk/run speed will then be increased as long as the ball is there, in addition your wolf will have some life leech making it alot easier to take some hits from monsters.

You should not put any more points in Werebear IMO, they are slow and really hard to play untwinked. You could aim for 20 Lycanthropy, 20 Fury, 20 Dire Wolves and 20 Grizzly. I think all your points from now on should be put into Fury or you will have considerable problems later in nightmare.

BTW, this is a good thread. Reminds me about the troubles we have all had in this game.
Have fun.

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

thankyou very much Tomh. With feral rage and fury, do you cast the spell and it stays active for 30 seconds or what ever, like transforming into a werewolf etc?

Edit. I see feral rage is just like a normal attack, instead I have to right click. Do you guys just use feral rage all the time, as the default attack? Or only use it in certain places etc?
It wastes a fair bit of mana seen as though I only have 102 mana points.

I also read somewhere that the cow level has been nerfed in the latest version and they are not good exp anymore, si this true?

I use Feral rage on left click and Fury on right click all the time. Don`t worry about the mana consumptions. Fury costs only 4 mana all the time, so an occasional mana pot would be more than enough. Fury is just an attack move like feral rage, but you will love it:) The sound of five hits smacking monsters is precious:)

Edit: you don`t have to right click with Feral rage, you can choose to have it on left click as well.

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

I have to make assumptions since I've never used Feral Rage, but:

Fury is like a normal attack, except that as you put more points into it it will automatically attack up to five times. Feral Rage is more of a timered skill, where you attack once and its effect remains for a few seconds. So the tactic is to Feral once to get the orb circling around you, do three or four Fury attacks, then Feral again to keep the effect going, Fury a few more times, Feral... you get the gist?

The most basic Werewolf builds usually max out Fury; by skill level 20 you're doing more than 4x more damage than the basic attack, and the Attack Rating bonus is generally the only source you get as a wolf.

Also, if you find you like Fury, it means you'll probably like Paladins that use the skill Zeal. Zealots have the added bonus that they can also use auras that add elemental damage, which helps immensely when you run into Physical Immune monsters in late Nightmare and Hell. Like your werewolf, they're not good for Magic Find runs, but they're fun (and arguably easier) to quest through the game.

But never forget that you should try out almost everything. You know your character's somewhat broken at this point. Use it as a learning experience to gain as much knowledge as possible, and then your next character will be all that much better. Don't be afraid to go out on a limb and do your own thing!

Edit: aahh, the mana problem. Finding a source of mana leech for your amulet or on a ring will help a lot. Remember that cubing three rings will generate a random amulet, and rubing three amulets will make a random ring. Since they don't sell for much gold, consider cubing all your useless jewelry to help you get some leech or high +mana jewelry.

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

Often what you do is charge your Feral Rage up to maximum and then start furying (because the Feral Rage gives you big bonuses to life leach and run/walk speed) throwing in another Feral Rage every 15 seconds or so to keep it at maximum charge. I would imagine your mana problem can be solved with potions if you don't have any mana leach gear.

I tend to always keep Werewolf on right click because when I first started playing I was terrible at guessing when I was running short on time. The habit stuck. I switch fury and FR on left click with F buttons.

Actually with most characters I keep things that are right-click-only on the right click and things that can be both on the left. So teleport, curses, werewolf etc all on right and glacial spike, poison nova, fury on left.

Are you sure about poison nova? I thought this skill was right click only. One of my toons would benefit substantially if it was on the left!

I think one of the reasons your mercenary is getting killed is because you are not killing monsters fast enough. Remember that in Diablo the best defense is offense. This means doing more damage, faster. That's the reason why people are recommending Feral Rage and Fury: put 20 points in both of them and you are doing 600% more damage while hitting several times faster.

If I look at your skill distribution, I am impressed that you still manage to kill stuff. ;) Ok, just kidding. But seriously, the only skill in above list that increases your damage is werebear. The druid's summons are useless when it comes to killing monsters. (Don't ask me why; other classes have summons that can actually kill stuff.) The grizzly is a good tank, but is too slow to kill effectively, so most people only spend 1 point in it. When it dies, you just recast it.

Also, you're better off choosing between werewolf and werebear instead of putting points in both. I'm not an expert in druids, but I understand werewolf is easier with limited gear. Keep in mind that some druid skills only work in wolf form OR in bear form. Fury and Feral rage, for example, are wolf-only skills.

Good luck!

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

One very important item ability which has been alluded to here is what's known as Leech. Leech comes in two varieties, Life and Mana, and is most commonly found on rings, amulets, weapons, and gloves. As you find loot you will occasionally see an item with an attribute that looks something like this:

5% Life stolen per hit or 3% Mana stolen per hit

What this means is that when you (not your mercenary or summons) inflict physical damage on an enemy your life or mana will be healed by the percentage listed in the item's attribute. Example:

Let's say you have a ring that has the ability "4% Life stolen per hit." If you hit a monster and inflict 125 damage, you will be healed by 5 life (125*.04=5). It works the same way with Mana stolen per hit, only the amount healed will be to your mana reserves instead of life. This is very important for two reasons - with lots of life leech, as long as you're constantly doing physical damage to your enemies you are constantly healing your life, which greatly enhances your survivability. Second, with enough mana leech you can use your powerful abilities like Fury and Feral Rage indefinately because you will do enough damage to leech back the entire cost of the ability! For example, as noted above Fury costs 4 mana per use. If you have a piece of equipment that says "3% Mana stolen per hit" and inflict at least 134 damage on an enemy your mana ball will be healed for the full cost of the Fury attack, allowing you to use Fury all the time.

Like resistances, Leeching attributes stack. So if you have a ring that has 3% mana stolen per hit and a weapon that has 5% stolen mana per hit each of your physical attacks will heal your mana ball by 8% of the damage. The two leeching attributes also work side-by-side, so if you have both life and mana leech both your life and mana balls will be healed with each hit!

It must be noted that some monsters are immune to Leech. Skeletons and any monster with the "Physical Immune" attribute cannot be leeched from. Beware of these monsters!

Hope this helps!

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

thankyou very much all.

Im wondering what the mercenaries in act 2 nightmares auras are. Their are offensive, defensive and combat. Which ones have which auras/special abilities?

Thankyou.

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

thankyou very much.

Which mercenary from act 2 nightmare do you guys favour? So far Im looking at defensive or maybe offensive? Which is best for a summoner druid/>

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

Keep in mind that you can always switch around mercs until you find one that works best for your personal playing style. Hirable mercs are always around your level, so as long as you strip your old merc before hiring a new one, you don't really lose much. (Trained mercs are slightly stronger than freshly hired mercs, even at the same level, but it's not a huge difference.)

That said, an offensive merc is probably best for a summoner. Your summons are not that strong. You need Might to increase your damage.

Re: How do I defeat Diablo? He kills me and my team in 1 hit.

Actually, trained merc and freshly hired mercs are of exactly the same power, as long as they are hired on the same difficulty level. The only difference is the difficulty from which you hired the merc. Normal mercs are the strongest, and hell's are the weakest. They don't differ that much though. Since you are hitting with both your WW form and your summons, I would recommend might. Well, actually, the standard staple merc for (almost) all physical dame characters are might, and the defensive (holy freeze) one are often used for casters.

of course. my mistake. I guess i don't use left click with most necros (I've never played bone)

edit: I sometimes use HF for melee. It just depends. But for high physical damage multiplication, Might is good.

Just remember: safety first, THEN kill-speed.
