My opinion(however worthless it may seem to you): :spy:
I'm not an awesome SC/BW player. I played it back when it came out a lot, I had a lot of fun with it, When BW came out, I didnt convert mainly because I didnt want to learn all the new strategies and everything(I got killed in BW matches pretty quickly...). Anyhow, I did enjoy playing it. Good game. Every oncef and while nowadays, I still play it.
I'm not an awesome d2lod player either. Back in 1.09, I was fairly decent, but pretty much anyone could be decent if you got a rush. My friends and I used to get people from lvl 1 to lvl 75 in 2 hours. It was awesome. Having 300 leftover stat points to spend, having 50 skill points to spend, that was fun. I was pretty "rich" i guess, as far as equipment goes, I wrote some guide on the strategy.purediablo.com for bow socketing. But I quit in impatience of 1.10, and only recently have started playing again, back to broke(anyone wanna gimme freebies?).
Anyhow, my analysis of the games:
Starcraft = better than diablo, because: A crapload more strategy. A lot more brainpower. Thinking and adapting to each situation, so many different situations, gotta be fast with the fingers, gotta figure out your opponent.
Diablo 2 LoD = beter than Sc, because: A crapload less strategy. Easy to play. More strategy does not necessarily mean better game, likewise, it doesnt mean worse game.
But I can imagine D2 winning the vote, because it's target audience is a LOT bigger. It's a great game because you can learn "in 30 minutes", sometimes people dont want to think when they are playing games. Great SC players have to be pretty smart, you encounter a couple young teenagers who are pretty good, but generally, they're fairly intelligent. But in Diablo, you can encounter anyone. Not to say that if you play diablo, you're stupid, but I'm convinced more stupid people play diablo than SC. You can be stupid, and really good at diablo, I've met a couple lvl 90+ people who are total idiots, yet they have "godlike" equipment, and can handle themselves in a duel fairly well.
Anyhow, essentially, diablo has a big community. It can attract more types of people, and there are a lot more casual players. Likewise, in Starcraft, it does not attract as large of a community, and there are a lot less casual players. Make sense?
So, both great games, one just as a broader appeal. If you want to talk about percentages of "intense" gamers, I'd say Starcraft probably has a lot more "serious players" that focus on the game. Diablo 2, doesnt really require focus, it just requires time.
Thoughts?
