Grats D2 for the win!

My opinion(however worthless it may seem to you): :spy:

I'm not an awesome SC/BW player. I played it back when it came out a lot, I had a lot of fun with it, When BW came out, I didnt convert mainly because I didnt want to learn all the new strategies and everything(I got killed in BW matches pretty quickly...). Anyhow, I did enjoy playing it. Good game. Every oncef and while nowadays, I still play it.

I'm not an awesome d2lod player either. Back in 1.09, I was fairly decent, but pretty much anyone could be decent if you got a rush. My friends and I used to get people from lvl 1 to lvl 75 in 2 hours. It was awesome. Having 300 leftover stat points to spend, having 50 skill points to spend, that was fun. I was pretty "rich" i guess, as far as equipment goes, I wrote some guide on the strategy.purediablo.com for bow socketing. But I quit in impatience of 1.10, and only recently have started playing again, back to broke(anyone wanna gimme freebies?).

Anyhow, my analysis of the games:

Starcraft = better than diablo, because: A crapload more strategy. A lot more brainpower. Thinking and adapting to each situation, so many different situations, gotta be fast with the fingers, gotta figure out your opponent.

Diablo 2 LoD = beter than Sc, because: A crapload less strategy. Easy to play. More strategy does not necessarily mean better game, likewise, it doesnt mean worse game.

But I can imagine D2 winning the vote, because it's target audience is a LOT bigger. It's a great game because you can learn "in 30 minutes", sometimes people dont want to think when they are playing games. Great SC players have to be pretty smart, you encounter a couple young teenagers who are pretty good, but generally, they're fairly intelligent. But in Diablo, you can encounter anyone. Not to say that if you play diablo, you're stupid, but I'm convinced more stupid people play diablo than SC. You can be stupid, and really good at diablo, I've met a couple lvl 90+ people who are total idiots, yet they have "godlike" equipment, and can handle themselves in a duel fairly well.

Anyhow, essentially, diablo has a big community. It can attract more types of people, and there are a lot more casual players. Likewise, in Starcraft, it does not attract as large of a community, and there are a lot less casual players. Make sense?

So, both great games, one just as a broader appeal. If you want to talk about percentages of "intense" gamers, I'd say Starcraft probably has a lot more "serious players" that focus on the game. Diablo 2, doesnt really require focus, it just requires time.

Thoughts?

I think there have been about 230 too many posts in this thread. I haven't even bothered to read the last half of it. SC players, get over yourselves and unite behind the Blizzard banner to support D2. D2 fans, stop encouraging them, and let's just move on. Come on, can't we all just get along?

It's SC v. TFT, not SC V. D2 :cheesy:

Ok, so they're redoing the D2 vs AVENGE BW vote.
Maybe they should take it back to the previous round...
Oh, and they applied republican tactics, supporting CS to try and split the non-D2 vote between SC and CS.
HACKS I SAY!

As much as I would have loved to continue the argument (and I can and would normally), I think I've reached my limit. You have mentioned how superior Koreans are to Americans in at least three posts, yet dare I mention the word Korean as an adjective, I'm a racist? How is calling someone a fourteen year old Korean kid racist? Bust out a dictionary and look up racist before going around making unfounded accusations. I'm jealous because of what? I'm not a pro at playing a game? I'm not Korean? I'm not "winning" an argument over two video games on an online forum? What am I jealous of, Inu? Here's a thought: you're annoyed because I'm not bending over to worship your opinions and generally thinking for myself. Dear god, anything but that!

I'm glad that someone can make millions playing games. Most people, even most Koreans (there I go again being racist! ) will not. I may make millions, but that's because I'll have worked for it. I'm not jealous of their lifestyle, and I say that without irony. I lived with computer gamers for a long time, and computer programmers as well. Many are out making four or five times what I do. I have chosen to go into academia. I have chosen to get a PhD instead of looking for a nice corporate job. Why should I envy something I don't want?

I've never thought of you as anything but a thorn in the side of the moderators. Now you're race baiting. Lovely.

Prejudice is not the same as racist :)

I called you prejudice since you used the term "14 year old Korean" as a general statement. Not "I've played and lost to one 14 year old Korean, 2 27 year old Koreans, 3 16 year old Koreans blah blah..".

I could not care less if you're jealous or not but it was immature to put it like you did, very condescending, like all progamer Koreans would be 14 years old :D

You thought of me as a thorn in the side, great, but I've still countered all your argument and got my message through with facts - Broodwar is ALOT harder to master than Warcraft 3.

Proportional has to take into account a lot of things, such as cost to build each unit being compared, time to build each unit being compared, amount of tech to build each unit being compared, cost of tech to build each unit being compared, other benefits of having that tech in place, percentage of maximum supply/food consumed by each unit being compared, and special abilities of each unit being compared. You can't just do a straight damage per hit point comparison and say "GAME NOT PROPORTIONAL."

Comparing two units from similar games or even the same game is impossible to do just based on two attributes that not all units even have. Comparing two games is a lot more than a two faceted affair.

That was not the point of the comparison if you would have followed the conversation you would have understood it too :D

The point was basically: Zergling vs Marine = 5 second fight. Grunt vs Huntress = 5 minute fight. Guess which is easier to micro and which is harder :}~

Cheers.

Broodwar is the harder to micro, obviously. What really makes the difference as far as microing is concerned is the number of units you have to control and against how many units you have to control them. Broodwar inarguably puts more units on the board, forcing you to have much more disciplined control over them, especially considering how dumb most of them are if left alone.

I guess it can be argued that BW leaves the possibility for just massing and attack-moving, but your chances of beating a human that way are pretty low.

Anyone else find this mildly amusing?

Don't speak of what you don't know child.

Progamer Koreans get contracts, got managers etc. They're forced to practise 10 or more hours a day. They take gaming far more serious than ANY OTHER country. They have coaches who supervise their training...

There have NEVER EVER been a non-Korean worldchampion in BW. There is NO SINGLE non-Korean who have the skills to match the creme.

So... In yo face~

Just read the first post

i swear i was lmfao

Who bothers writing this stuff? And for what purpose, its just a 'title'.

well whatever, d2 will win the second round (is there one?) thumbsup:

Ahh but the fact still remains, you prejudged the rest of the world. Maybe koreans do have coaches for something as trite as a game. Who cares? Last I checked we are all human so unless Koreans have evolved into a different speices, anyone can do that. The fact remains you are a hipocrate, calling someone else prejudice while doing the same yourself.
So in your face la~ thx have a nice day.

Well so far noone outside Korea have even come halfway so unless you can back your claim up.... The reason I ain't prejudice is because I know what I speak of.

So in your face ~

Are you happy in your own self induced delussional world? I could throw together a tournament of 100 French god like players and one horrid korean and say that all korean's suck. You have the facts to back up your claims? I say you have the delussional mind that needs to understand what is really out there in the world. And where are these facts? Are the a representation of the full world? I seriously doubt that every single BW player has played in your little tourneys, I know I havent.

You have no basis for your "facts" You are prejudging the world. And even on the 1 in a million chance you are right, you are still prejudging the world, hence prejudice.

Inu, I think you need to chillax. Why are you taking this so seriously? It's just a game. Does it really matter that much that you must force everyone to think SC is a better/harder game then WCIII? Judging from your posts, it seems that you are too emotionally attatched to it. I don't see why you are devoting so much effort to this unless you happen to be one of those Korean pro-gamers.

Lets just say that SC is taken more seriously as a competitive computer game then any other game in existence. Ok? I don't think many people will disagree with that. However, that doesn't rule out other games as being less competitive, just because there are fewer serious players.

It's like arguing over which sport requires more skill: basketball or ping-pong. While basketball may be much more popular then ping-pong, I can assure you that ping-pong champions take their game just as seriously as basketball champions.

Fennris do they surrender before or after they are wishy washy on playing in the first place?
(Thanks for getting the humor :D)
*for the humorly challenged yes I know that statement is prejudice in and of itself, but unlike some people, I'm doing it jokingly ;)

lol.
Frenchy vs. Boxer round 1, WGtour finals
Boxer: good luck
Frenchy: Forfeit, surrender, give up! ~begins babbling in french waving a white flag~

wow... just, wow. does anyone else realize that this whole waste of a thread would have never been given birth if a certain mod or 2 banned inu a few months ago?

life sure is ironic. and on that note, i'm going to ruin my whole weak arguement by saying that i'm racist... racist against all 14 year old koreans, i hope they all burn in hell. but for the record, the 13 and 15 year old koreans are alright in my book. god bless them, every one

Correct me if I'm wrong (politely).

But, I think Inu has been banned a couple times. His last incarnation was Inuyasha.

Hmmmmmm...

Oh, and I love that last bit of your quote. "13 and 15 year olds"... hehe

On a sidenote that is a flagrant attempt to defuse this thread, can anyone explain to me why so many Asian teens are into Gundam?

There happens to be a 3-D Gundam arcade game at my Univ, and I just can't figure it out.

Coming from an Asian background and computer game design background, I just can't understand why a game with so little content, so horrible SFX and GFX, and so weak a storyline can attract such a cult following.

hmm... maybe it's like those "A-Team" trolls...
