Grats D2 for the win!

gotta love people getting pissed off over binary codes.... never new 0 and 1's that our computers use to run could make people so angry.. its only a game.. who cares about what some vote did... they are both great games.... even if a lame game beat sc or d2 i wouldnt loose respect for any of the games...

didnt ur parents teach you that winning isnt everything.... get a life ur complaining over something fundamently pointless... if sc won cos they used a bot i wouldnt give a toss..... because i know its only a game....

Well, I hope Gamespy learned its lesson today. The next time they want to hold such an important vote, they should use those uber butterfly ballots that made Florida famous. ;)

Yeah, FF7 should win.. That game may not have robbed of as much time as BW or D2 but it's indeed the best game I've ever played...

Ick. I would hope that the ultimate winner of this contest would be something a bit more groundbreaking than FF7. Great game, but hardly the Bestest Game Ever. :p

1's and 0's upsets us? If you don't know what you speak about why even post? Why even bother with an input if you did not care at all? Obviously you got a bit upset too. It's all on a scale ;/ People get angry for losing Tabletennis games. It's basically the same...

Well perhaps Chrono Trigger is on top with FF7... :p

And yes most are censored by Dii.net but those who wants to know knows how to know...

No way... FF6 and FF Tactics are my most favorite FF game always... FF7 is great but there are alot of stuff i like FF6/FFT better... Story and music wise FF7 can't even compare to those 2; well, maybe FF7 has better graphic and the hardest boss ever grace FF games (gogo emerald weapon) but over all i'd say FF6 beats FF7 hands down (although FF7 beats FF8,9,10...)

edit: Chrono trigger is nice too, but i still think FF6 has better story, game play, and music... It's like, every character in FF6 has his/her own personality and each one of them look more "human" (in terms of personality) than characters in other FF games...

Isn't it kinda silly to actually give a damn about this?

If you are a SC fan then sit back have a drink and kill some Zergs. If you are a D2 fan then go kill Baal a few dozen times. Now everybody just wasted the same amount of time having some fun.

Crazier notion by far than sitting on the net arguing about a gamesite vote. :buddies:

Ah. I love FFT. The story was perhaps one of the best ever in a game. But it's not on my top 10 :) FF6.. I got to where terra turned to a sprite or something and flew away, then, forgive me, but I got bored ( Getting bored on FF6 = Capital punishment )...

Chrono Trigger was one of the few GAMES that made me weep :p Also one of the first RPG's I played... Got it 95 on my birthday... *sniffle*

Wow, you have to love conspiricy! Tell you what, I'll produce some pictures of UFOs, and find some people that say they have seen them to prove that there is alien life!

Check the brackets by clicking on the "brackets" tab. Diablo 2 has, from the first round, had 10 000+ votes. Starcraft didn't ever have that many votes. Why people are even questioning the vote is beyond me.

Yes exactly. In all 3 matches diablo gor over 10000 votes. It's a starcraft that got suspiciously high votes in last round. Are people trying to prove that d2 cheated in all 3 matches? Against Fallout2? Wtf? There was no point cheating against Fallout 2 and D2 got over 10k votes in that match. Your links to starcraft fanboy sites proves nothing Inu. If bots were working ones D2 would have gotten over 50k votes easily. A lot people ran that bot during the night. It made thousands of page hits (gamespy representitive said that) and if all of them would have became votes d2's score would have been more like 50-100k votes.
Gratz D2! We gonna win this :D

I still think that Fallout 2 should've won.

Since it doesn't look like there was any actual cheating, I'll be voting for D2 later on.

That, and Doom.

OOO Starcraft got beat so now what happens. Every body gets all upset cause someone tryed to cheat. I'm willing to bet that there was someone from the Starcraft community cheating too. And anyways, if you would pay attention to the votes as you voted you would notice that it didn't always go up the second or third, or etc. time you cliked on it. And lets all just be a little reasonable here. It's just a vote on the internet about a game. But if you want me to really be unreasonable I could go into the fact that everyone at Starcraft is being childish, and then start calling that community all kinds of names and what not. But I'm not going to do that. If you like to know why D2 won it's because it is a better game, and more people like it. And this coming from a person that actually voted for Starcraft in it's first few rounds. Till it came up against D2 that is. I'm with LyrinJytus why don't we all just sit back, crack open a cold bruskey (or bottle of vodka for us liquor fans) and sit back and do some baal/zerg runs. Hell why don't we get some of the Starcraft Terrian Marrines to come kill baal, and well get a couple of sorcs, necros, and a barb or two to go kill the Zerg. It'll be fun.

Here's what I think about all this :)

I clearly saw that the votes were boosted when purediablo.com posted the news. They're probably the single most contributing factor, and maybe a couple of posts at the official Battle.net forums too. Is it wrong that it works like this, that a site can encourage people to vote and affect the outcome a great deal? Of course not!

Starcraft fans are free to post vote encouragements on their sites too IMHO. What's their problem? If their community is too small to make a difference, well, duh, then it's because D2 apparently is more popular and it should win.

Jug, did you not see the code on b********ers? The bot did in fact work and several people used it ;/ That's the proof. Check WGT for more reference and proof. The biggest BW sites in the world now boycotted gamespy for trying to cover up...

Bottom line is, bl*******ers made a vote script, used it and racked up about 1000 votes or more with it. It has been proved, not assumed.

And yes, we did encourage our members on WGT with news and I'm confident we got plenty votes by that but still, using scripts to cheat is wrong ;/ But heck, that's what bl*******ers do ;/

I don't understand how you guys are even taking that popularity contest seriously. It's definitely not a competition of which is a better game because there is just so much utter bull**** in there (Chrono Trigger? Baldur's Gate 2? Those are some of the best games of all time ... And where was Morrowind? I don't even remember seeing that game up there). Besides, the opinions of most gaming communities are pretty unreliable as it is, since they can't tell good graphics from their a** (Guilty Gear XX has <I>bad</I> graphics? Are you ****ing blind?), and wouldn't know good gameplay if it sledgehammered them in the face (To think that D2 could even compare to SC in the gameplay department is just laughable).

:worship: Diablo II: Lord of Destruction :worship:

D2 won, Starcraft lost. The fact that gamespy logged several thousand hits from one IP (This IS what happened, is it not?) is testiment that dynamic IP vote-bots weren't used. If they were using dynamic IP vote-bots, then gamespy wouldn't have logged all those hits from one IP, hence we wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place.

If you still want to say that that doesn't mean Diablo 2 fans didn't script the votes, then what's stopping us from claiming the whole thing was just a script war, in which case Diablo 2 came out the winner anyway?

The fact of the matter is that scripting could have occured for both sides. (and knowing the fan base of both games, probably did.) So be quiet about it, vote for SC in the loser-voting match, or whatever, and be proud with a runnerup. Or if you feel some horrible injustice has been done to you by the Diablo II LoD Fanbase, vote against them in the upcoming vote.

Either way, it's kind of silly for a whole community of gamers to get all up-in-arms over a silly vote on a site most of us probably never visit anyway.

No one actually kills baal....just his minions. The term "Baal runs" is really a misnomer.

Thank you.

Now back on topic, it's pretty simple to see that you cannot vote multiple times from the same IP. I actually tried to do this myself when I voted and saw D2 behind by like 300 votes.
Every time I would click "Vote!" it would show at least 1 more vote casted for D2. For a while I thought that you could vote unlimited times from the same computer, and I also thought how stupid of a poll it would be if you could. But nevertheless I was determined to find out.
Over and over I voted for D2, seeing the count rise slowly, until one time I clicked "Vote!" and the count didn't go up at all.
Ok, this is where we separate the humans from the idiots. Because the count didn't go up after a multiple vote, it DOES NOT mean that it just "didn't work". It means that I NEVER VOTED MORE THAN ONCE, THAT THE SCREEN WAS JUST REFRESHING TO SHOW ME OTHER PEOPLES VOTES BRINGING THE COUNT UP.

So, you can e-mail the dude that tried the script for poor "sportsmanship", but it is a fact that D2 won legitimately.
