Golemancer Attempt No.2

Well im certainly gonna have a bash at a golemmancer now.

few questions thou before i get started

maxing fire golem is a must just to find out about killing speed for iron golem

after that thou would you recommend more life (BG) or does the IG have problems hitting and need the AR from CG?

o and max IG or not?

other then that, points in dim vision and other crowd control curses

It would probably be exactly the same as LozHinge's GumbyBalboa only instead of maxing Blood Golem you'd max Fire Golem. It would turn your Iron Golem into more of a "glass cannon", so to speak.

after re reading all the previous posts im going to max iron golem aswell to see if the thorns damage does hurt in hell ( i take it thorns works with amp damage?)
max golem mastery or not?

so
20 IG
20 FG
10 CG
10 BG
10 DV
1 in rest of curses

if i make it any further then that i will start maxing out CG BG DV

You need golem mastery (20) and summon resist (1). Amp damage works in conjunction with thorns (and thorns + amp returns better damage than IM + thorns). I'd reduce the CG and BG contribution to pay for it then come back to them later.

i wont be pumping IM + amp damage, it would miss the point somehow

im doing Thorns/amp damage to see how good golem is.

so
20 golem mastery
20 iron golem
20 fire golem
10 clay/blood
10 DV
1 in curses

@JubalBane - I would warn you that playing a golemancer (or any under-powered build) can either be "challenging" or "boring", depending on your perspective. The joy isn't in fast runs, or finding godly gear, or owning all you see. The fun is in figuring out how the hell you're going to survive your current encounter!

@Nukeman8 - IG is possibly the skill you least need to max, out of all the golem skills. The Thorns aura is fun but it isn't a big killer. The difference in defence between lvl1 and lvl 20 IG is possibly irrelevant in Hell. I'm maxing IG for Gumby Balboa simply because I had discounted FG (quite possibly a big mistake) in my skill plan. If I attempt another golemancer, I will put 1pt in IG and max FG.

@timevalue - absolutely spot on.

@Starcrunch - good advice, I reckon.

screw with the planning then, i just carry on with the golemancer and adapt to what the game throws at me.

defiantly going to try and aim at having my iron golem the best it can be

I think I might try one as well.
I will shoot for:
GM 20 - 500 AR and faster walking speed
CG 10 - 200 AR not as good as 400 but a GM should help
BG 20 - more life less loss of cool iron golem item
IG 20
FG 17 - 102% test to see if I do about 2x damage
SR 1
DV 10

1 in the rest of the curses. Ouch a very high level. 107 - 12 = 95 +1 = 96 level; uncomfortable but might be doable

I have heard that DV + Thorns is cool. The DV almost "freezes" the victims and forces them to melee which triggers the Thorns damage.

It looks like I will lack a physical immune killer. Amp breaks most of them but I got a bad feeling my merc is going be throwing his helmet at my unsuspecting head quite a bit.

Now I need a name. Something Razzmatazz.

We could always try....
Timevalue's new Nitromancer!

He wouldn't be a strict Golemancer because he would have max (20) Corpse Explosion....Big exploding bodies everywhere in Hell (Doing half-fire/half-physical damage along with a supercharged fire golem-enhanced glass cannon Iron Golem helping the Merc to down the first corpse in a crowd quickly....KABOOM!).

Summoning
-----------
20 Clay Golem (Needs max AR for Iron Golem to get more deadly hits quickly
to down the first corpse for CE chain. Also handy itself
sometimes.)
20 GMastery (More life is always good for a glass cannon Rusty)
1 + Summon Resist
1 + Blood Golem (Optional to put more points here, but may need them
elsewhere. Besides, there are lots of decent dmg
weapons around if you gamble for them enough at shops.)
1 + Iron Golem (If LozHinge is right about the weak thorns and defense
bonuses then leftover points could be better served in
Blood Golem.)
20 Fire Golem (I think the full +120% dmg is absolutely necessary here.)
1 Skeleton Mastery (For Revives)
1 Raise Skeleton (Pre'Req.)
1 Skelly Mage (Pre'Req)
1 + Revive (For tankage and protection. With only a few revives around there
would be plenty of corpses ready for a big Nitro Corpse Explosion!)

Poison & Bone
--------------
1 Teeth (Pre'Req)
20 Corpse Explosion (KABOOM!)

Curses
-------
However you see fit, with possible extra points placed in Dim Vision for the ranged attackers and a smaller-radius Amp Damage as LozHinge has taught us (this also helps with the Corpse Explosion!)....at least 1 point decrep for slowing bosses, etc.

If the experimenting with the "glass cannon" Rusty works out well, I'll be seeing you in Hell, my friends! (Pun Intended)

kykle - This is going to be a fairly long post, and if LozHinge the Unhinged believes I am starting to invade on his thread covering GumbyBalboa's road to being a Patriarch, I'll carry on with this discussion on my own thread http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=583934

In the meantime, I'll try to cover these two topics you mentioned real quick.
Corpse Explosion - Yesterday while bored at work I was thinking the same thing you were and wondering if I could shave off a few points from CE, the Arreat Summit answered my question here
http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/skills/necromancer-poison.shtml
On the chart there you can see the increasing radii that adds on with each level (this is common knowledge, I'm sure).
However, many people fail to calculate these radii into the area of this death circle. Since the area of a circle equals the radius squared times pi (A = r*r*3.14), let's look at the area calculations each new level can provide:

Levels 1 - 5 - 10 - 15 - 20
Radius (Yards) 2.6 - 4 - 5.6 - 7.3 - 9
"Area of Death (sq. yards) 21.2 - 50.2 - 98.5 - 167.3 - 254.3

The first 10 points into CE only provide for 98-99 square yards in the "death zone" while the last 10 points will give an extra 156 square yards
of nitro blasting fun! In fact, the last 5 points spent maxing out Corpse Explosion gives you the best bang for the buck (love that pun!) by packing on an extra 87 square yards of explosive power compared to the puny 50 square yards provided by the very first 5 points invested.
Also, I wanted to point out that several people here on the threads have pointed out that a large CE circle can even hit critters through walls! (unconfirmed).
I've also read somewhere that the 60-100% corpse damage is not random, but is applied according to how close the monster happens to be to the epicenter of the explosion. This is also unconfirmed but if this is true, it would make the 100% corpse damage "inner circle" that much larger.

Golem Mastery - You may be right about leaving only 10 points in GMastery, but I haven't researched this topic thoroughly enough. I could put 10 points in Blood Golem, instead, but I'll need to look into how to balance those 20 points between Blood Golem and GMastery in the best way possible for the most life possible for Gumby, Sparky, and the "glass cannon" Rusty (which, of course, would be used most of the time).

I've hit things through walls with CE before. In the Durance, with a couple rooms that almost touch at the corner.

LozHinge the Unhinged - You've brought a lot of joy to a lot of people reading your two Golemancer threads. I know I learned a lot from them, and I owe you a big "Thank you!" for that. I hope you find the time to come back and let GumbyBalboa become a Patriarch. If you can't, I'll just say, "No worries, but thanks for the memories!". This board owes you a big round of applause for all the hard work you put into these two threads (maybe even a permanent placement somewhere in the stickied Mouldy Tome). I will look forward to reading any other experimental builds you might post on.

JubalBane - For exactly the reasons I just posted, it would be very hard for me to comply with your request. My real life is pretty busy at times....then I have to build a character from scratch (which I have been doing), constantly post updates and screenshots, etc. It is very time-consuming and demanding; only a special and determined few can do it successfully.
If you want to have some fun and laughs reading my old "No Skill/No Attribute Point Necro" thread, here you go....He didn't last past Act 2 Normal, though:

(I do not know if the screenshots are still active for this thread.)

Flying visit guys!

RL has me in a stranglehold at present. Rather than trying to rush the experiment and then make hurried posts about how it all went wrong
I'll just have to say I'll be back when circumstances allow.

Good luck all who are experimenting with Golemancers and to timevalue with his Nitromancer (love that name!).

The Next Sequence in The Adventure

LozHinge: I completely understand about RL. I do have to admit I am looking forwared to Rusty Balboa's next segment however.

What's this: "RL is getting to me" thing everyone keeps talking about? There's no such thing.

Don't get me wrong, I've got a 9-6 job, I do my best to fill up the evenings and weekends, but... well that still leaves the nights, you know? You can squeeze a good, solid 3-4 hours in there between your last drink and first light.

You guys just aren't dedicated enough! :p

Anyways.

LoZHinge - awaiting your next installment, as always :)

I believe you can go quite far without spending levelling points. I haven't tried it myself but I'm sure others here have some anecdotes to share. My guess is that you can make it to Act 2 Normal, but on to Act 3 or later? I don't know!
Playing SP with ATMA, I have an unlimited number of mules and can mule off items anytime I wish, but I can only mule back on after I have saved and exited. Muling makes my life a lot easier, as I need to hoard socketables.

Good luck with Rathma and have fun! IG ftw.

Erm, am I understanding this right? Do you mean you can play with ATMA running and active, so long as all you do is offload items? And you do this by loading other empty characters, rather than dumping into your own character's extended stash?
