Forum Mafia - The Dark Tower Game Thread

I have made a minor change to the Twilight text to draw a little more attention to the area that should be discussed. The last twilight mechanic was declared too easy so I decided to err on the side of too hard and drop in hints if necessary. The text I just added is the last hint I can give but it should put the focus on what you guys should be talking about. I'm looking for words from a specific set of acceptable answers I drew up.

I must say the clock ideas were quite interesting and make me wish I had played off of that theme and the hour growing late, but the only thing I could think of that played into that area required pretty thorough book knowledge.

Right back at ya!

I think you guys were on to something about the beams representing time. I looked up 'ka' in the wiki and it looks like it symbolizes destiny or fate. It was interesting that Drixx said that ka is a wheel, I think he was trying to paint the picture of a clock for us. My guess is that time is running out and Roland's fate is in our hands.

Well the focus seems to be drawn to the last two beams or guardians. The main beam that was left was the bear-turtle beam. The bear and turtle are known as Shardik and Maturin, respectively. Gan's beam also still stands, this is the elephant-wolf beam.

I think Drixx was highlighting how sad he was that he didn't get all the players he wanted in the game. Say true, say sorry. Thankee-sai, now gib us the gifts!

Hey you people wearing the smarty pants. What does this sentence mean....??

"...Given time, words may even enchant an enchanter. Do you take my meaning, gunslinger?"

Does "enchanting an enchanter" have some significance?? Okay enough thinking I just had a stroke...............

The last remaining guardians are Shardik(the bear) and Maturin(the turtle/skoldpadda)

See the Turtle of Enormous Girth / On his shell he holds the Earth

etc etc.

Pretty sure that's what we're supposed to be talking about here.

The gunslinger, Roland, has completed the beginning of his journey and palavered with the man in black. Shall we look back at what has come before?

This is the phrase that sticks out the most to me, it seems like it is asking a question. My guess is that it is asking what came before Roland "palavering" with the Man in Black? I guess the answer to that is the Death of Jake?

I believe that is a direct quote from the book, I found the phrase here http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/The_Dark_Tower_(series).

Hmm, that was my second guess, after thinking bold meant something. It seemed like the time theory might be on to something there.

I re-read the story and I don't see any changes (not that seeing a change would help me much...).

Yeah, wish I had coiped the first one so I could see the difference easier.

Third theory was that

"Let the word and the legend go before you. There are those who will carry both. Fools, perchance. Let the world go before you. Let your shadow grow. Let it grow hair on its face. Let it become dark. Given time, words may even enchant an enchanter. Do you take my meaning, gunslinger?"

is a riddle, but it is from the books apparently, and that goes against the hints of it was a part that Drixx wrote. But it seems like most of it is from the books, so I really don't know. Anyone know which parts are not from the books?

The change is bolded. He added those words. I had sent the text to my work email. Looks like that was a good idea. ;)

Ka is a wheel. For the inhabitants of all-world, this has ever been so. When last the world began to turn, six beams there were, and twelve guardians to guard them. But the world has moved on, and now but two remain, say true, say sorry. The gunslinger, Roland, has completed the beginning of his journey and palavered with the man in black. Shall we look back at what has come before?

The Gunslinger is kind of hard to read, imo. It's the weakest of the books as far as his writing goes (it was one of his earliest works). The series really finds itself in the 2nd book, imo. It's worth persevering at least through the 2nd book if you have them available.

Reading or searching the books is not necessary for any advantage or part of the game, although folks more familiar with the story may derive more enjoyment out of the mechanics, characters and stories.

The bolded statements are bolded for story purposes and have nothing to do with the task. The task is a hidden riddle in a portion of the text I wrote myself. I really ought not to give even this much of a hint but I honestly thought someone would figure it out and have it solved already.

You give us way to much credit, ha ha.

This just seems to refer to a clock. The beams seem represent the beams you may expect to find in roman numerals, i.e., on older clocks. The six beams must be refering to XII, or 12. If that was all linked together with beams it would have 6 beams, and represent the number twelve. I guess if you exclude the top and bottom beams on the second time, "2", it would just be ll, or two beams. It's moved on, from 12 to 2, either AM or PM.

That was really confusing to type out, so I hope you understand what I mean.

Yeah I don't understand you in the slightest, but I don't think anyone can.

Riddle me this, riddle me that, who is the big black bat?

Now there's a riddle.

Wrong game, sorry kegs.
