Forum Mafia - The Dark Tower Game Thread

I don't know much about the books other than what I read on Wikipedia, but the thing that stood out to me was "shall we look at whback at what came before?" my understanding is that Roland has done this quest before. I'll have a harder read when I get home from work phone posting / reading is hard
somebody can't read
(it's you)

I'm feeling like I'm missing something with this story. The wiki is not much help; I can glean the very basics of what is happening in the world, but there seem to be giant gaps taken for granted in the wiki summaries. Also, the books seem to be all over the place; cyborgs, werewolves, Wild Wild West, psychics, vampires, hypnotism. Is this series trying to be all the fantasies tropes?

The answer is easily found in the Wiki.
Reading or searching the books is not necessary for any advantage or part of the game, although folks more familiar with the story may derive more enjoyment out of the mechanics, characters and stories.

I feel like Drixx has contradicted himself, so I'm getting fairly confused. If the answer can be found on the Wiki, then having read the books would give a definite advantage.

Just about every story Stephen King has ever written intersects in some way with The Dark Tower, which is why you have such a wide variety of things going on with the story. It's really quite good.

As far as the "Twilight Task", I recall the last one was considered too easy so I went with a little on the harder side. I will say that someone has come exceptionally close to the set of answers I will accept as success.

Ah screw that formatting.

Also, Vote: BipolarChemist for trying much harder than usual

Gunslinger may be early on his King's work, but he regards the opening line to The Gunslinger as the best line he's ever written. (P.S. I love The Dark Tower series and all of it's connections).

If it has to do with roman numerals, I'm going to cry because that seems way too complicated and was just a lucky guess for me. I think it still has to do with clocks and time or something, but can't figure out what to do with it.

Ditto here. I like the first one quite a lot actually.

An anonymous question (well, I know who asked it) that I thought everyone should have the answer to:

Hey Drixx. Can anything be answered with spoilers to the story?

Better question since I am not trying to reveal the secrets of the game: Can the entire game be figured out without major character spoilers?

Since this is both a game and a story, each person was assigned a character with a backstory and a part to play. Any information which might be helpful in identifying characters or which roles might be present can be found in the character descriptions on the wiki. Handy Link.

Unfortunately it would be impossible to tell a meaningful story without some spoilers along the way, but I hope my story will diverge enough from the actual story that nobody finds the original series spoiled too greatly. Much like the original author, I would suggest that the joy is in the journey and not in reaching the end goal.

Helpful as an answer? Probably not so much ... but it's what I'm giving :)

I wholeheartedly agree that it's a great series. I think the first is the weakest of the seven and as one of his earliest works, it lacks the benefit of the various tools of writing which he acquired along the way in his prolific writing career. It is nowhere near as engaging as the JFK time travel book or the dome book, for example, which are some of his most recent works.
