Etdlahq Memorial Bar - your shelter from forum crashes

So I bought Rivals of Aether and it's pretty fun, after all.

I WANTED to be good at the character Orcane (he's cute) but I'm not. I'm much better with the rock guy Kragg or whatever. I totally recommend it and if anyone buys it we can play on steam ;)

I also have the bad habit of relying heavily on shields and grabs in smash, and since this game has neither mechanic I dfind I don't know how to play defensively very well... yet

Shields and grabs are the things I use least in ssb. Except for Falcon's special grab, because that makes me really happy.

As someone who's just beyond "casual" in smash I think the following observations are reasonably accurate:

1) shields are really good against noobs
2) shield-grabs are even better (noobs will always attack a shield when sometimes the better habit is to just stop in front and grab the shielder)
3) command grabs (like falcon's) are OP ;)

Shields are especially good in brawl and sm4sh since those two games reward defensive game much more than melee (or project melee) or smash 64

After a couple of years of casual play I got into the bad habit of over-using shield grab in melee (I gave up on brawl almost immediately because it was too floaty and boring).

Another common mistake is using the getup attack when laying on the ground as the opponent approaches. The barely-next-level counter to that is baiting the getup attacking by jumping above the opponent and when they do the getup just use your double jump and land in time to punish them.

Nix, why do you need printed materials? It's 2015, man! Are we savages?? Is this the Dark Ages and we have to use mashed up wood to convey ideas??? My goodness! Maybe the spiders are infesting your network and so digital options are right out. Knowing Australia as well as I do (I've seen scary pictures!) I'm SURE that's the only plausible explanation.

*requests hot toddy on account of being a wee bit sick*
Printed materials are fun. I work in a school and you can't do without printed materials. A lot of it has or will become obsolete, but it will never completely dissappear.
