Vivi, love the new tar. It's so sunny!

BPC - how are you feeling? That's so miserable. I'm sorry!

Dr Kamap, do you do mental health issues as well? If so, dare I request a consultation? I suspect the cure would be so horrendous that any issues would pale in comparison, so in my case you'd probably recommend dropping me in a swimming pool with a great white shark, only please don't because I saw Jaws when I was 6 and have absolutely never gotten over my fear of the water, I cannot swim in water if I cannot see the bottom even if it is physically impossible for there to be a shark in it. Or a giant crocodile. Or a giant squid. Eek. Which is a shame because I love swimming. What was I talking about? Oh yes, no wait, thought I had it there for a second but it's gone again ...

Close your eyes, picture yourself beeing a black *** muslim in uganda.
Now picture yourself beeing a 6 year old boy in ethiopia.
Now picture yourself beeing born a girl in china.
Imagine yourself beeing a christian in Syria.
I could go on for a while.

Then realise that while your situation sucks a whole freaking lot, there are millions and millions (of not billions) people who have a whole nother kind of sucky situation.

Bleugh cat food breath, get of off my face.

I actually do that when I feel rotten. There's no point denying that every now and then I really get unhappy about my failing health, it brings me down and it's upsetting that it's still giving trouble after surgery.
But unlike my colleague, I'm not currently in hospital. There's several things I do not have. And my house is not flooded and none of the situations described by Kamap apply so yeah, could have been much worse.

Thanks! Sunflowers are lovely. Pity I can't grow plants - everything just dies with me.

Someone please explain Vivi the multi quote button!

Get a plastic plant. They don't exactly grow, but they won't die on you either.

Whenever someone tells me, "It could be worse, there's people who have a much harder time than you!" ...
I cannot help but feeling that they are trying to incite me to schadenfreude. That's horrible, man, why should I feel better simply because someone has it worse? That's cold.

:no:

That is somewhat true. I just say that because your situation could always get worse and it does put things into perspective. We may ***** complain and moan about a situation (take us for example and our problems with getting pregnant) we do realize its a "first" world problem, its not the end of the world.

Women in africa get shunned when they can't get pregnant, they are parias living from "wellfare" (read what they can beg together), can't get a job if your boss knows about it and they really strugle with life then, though it might not be their problem.
If for example they mary an infertile man its still their fault or their womb is damaged cause of toxins in the water, still their fault.

If you can't get food on the table everyday the least of your problems is not beeing able to get pregnant, if you don't have a roof above your head, who cares about divorce, pregnancy, not getting the right kind of cheese from your local store, can't see the movie you wanted on tv cause your cable is out, can't play D2 cause your internet broke down, jada jada jada etcetera etcetera.

The worst thing that happens to you is the worst thing that's ever happened to you.
Something even worse that happens to someone else doesn't mean that your thing has suddenly gotten a whole lot better. It's still the worst thing.

Feeling better because someone else is doing it harder than you makes as much sense as feeling bad because someone else is doing better than you.

Bad analogy. I do feel bad when someone else does better than me.

Why?

EDIT:

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Ok. I was just making sure. I've seen some colleagues get into trouble, whatever I said was to keep you out of trouble. Regardless of how I sometimes come across, I am not the sort of person who tells people what to do or how to live their lives so I appreciate you're picking it up the right way.
Thanks. Truely, I am much better this week, and last week, and I appreciate the thoughts.

I consider that as well. Humans are self-centered by nature, as that is how we perceive the world - from our personal surroundings and view. It does put things in perspective, and I can admit that I am generally well off, and empathise with those who have serious struggles in their lives, but it still doesn't make personal struggles disappear completely. First world problems, yes, but still a challenge at times, and everyone is different; some have better coping mechanisms.

LoL!

Other people aren't really real to me if I don't know them so I could care less about their problems but mine are truly life effecting.

:D
