Etdlahq Memorial Bar - your shelter from forum crashes

"Yes and I´m one of them"
*looks drunk and proud*
*stumbles around on place*
*hickups*
"No wait a minute who did you call..."

Found this recording with my DV Cam when my Diablo2 LOD cd had shattred in the CD player, not good times.

*hits some juice*

Hummm. . . it's beer time, for sure.

I've spent the past hour watching videos (that I watched over a year ago) about modding old G4 iMacs. . . largely beyond my capabilities. I need a RLTechBuddy (tm). I also need some space to wpolraky (that's work/play).

Why? Well, in working on the Mac D2 Guide, I realized that I needed to play around in OS 8 or 9. Unfortunately my day-to-day MacBook will not run the Classic OS. Fortunately, my old Lampbase G4 iMac will. Unfortunately, it's in a box in mominem's dining area and I have no real place to set it up. (Actually, I could, but only on a big square folding table with a squishy top that impedes proper air flow.) Maybe I should purchase a small table. . .

Better yet, maybe I should just leave testing D2 + ClassicOS to others. Meh: not my style.

But in wanting to set up the iMac, wipe the HD, and start over with Panter (or Tiger) + OS9, I also want to crack the case and clean out all the dust. And if I'm going to crack the case to clean out the dust, I should probably go ahead and upgrade the internal RAM. And if I'm going to upgrade the internal RAM, I should probably go ahead and upgrade the HD (despite it already having a perfectly capable 80GB factory HD in perfect working order as far as I know). . .

So, I've been watching youtube videos and looking over the service manuals. That, and drinking beer.

All in all, Good Times!

2nd test completed. Went to a bar last night with a friend, managed to be there for 5 hours without drinking any alcohol. Just water and I had a blast! Screw those, who claims that you can't have fun in a bar without drinking.

Me. Then again, if I go to a bar generally I never have a good time, with or without booze.

Just wanted to say, good job on that Mac guide, JayGun. I haven't had to use a Mac for anything other than Interweb surfing since '99, but your guide was simple enough for me to understand. Glad to see you're keeping up with it. ...How about an Ikea for a cheapo table? I think I saw one that was kind of the size of an end table for about $30... That, or Wal-Mart has some pretty cheap computer stands.

Don't mind me; I'm just rummaging around the bar for some pain killers. Anyone need a drink while I'm back here?

Okay, by bar I usually mean places that are more like pubs. I like to just hangout and talk with friends rather than listen to crap pop music that is way too loud, so we choose places that are more "smooth", if you know what I mean :)

And, I'll have an ice tea please.

<Iced tea, on the pass>

Sugar? No?

I know what you mean. I generally never hit up clubs. And about the only time I do have fun in a bar is when I'm playing pool or foozeball or something. I need to be entertained. Just sitting around, looking at all the EUs, and having a drink in hand isn't enough for me to enjoy myself.

About one of the best bar experiences I've had (besides the EMB, of course!) was this place in Boston, Massachusetts. It had three floors; the first was the dance section, the top floor had foozeball/pool tables and some darts, but the middle floor was all video games from different eras. Everything was incrediblly overpriced, but it was fun as hell to be drinking while playing Time Crisis 2 or some of the oldies like Ms. PacMan & Galaga. I know bars like this exist down here, but how lame would it be to go to a place and be drinking/gaming... alone? :point: :propeller:

edit: I suppose no more lame than sitting home alone, drinking/gaming. But at least no one else sees you, and you can be in just your underwear and no one cares. :D

Thanks, TRM! I had (and continue having) loads of fun on the Mac Guide. . . so much so that I've had crazy ideas about buying an old mac just to see how well D2 works on it compared to my iMac. . .

As to tables IKEA was actually my first thought. . . iirc they have dining-like tables for ~$30 (you buy the top and legs separately, but maybe $40 at most, and I had a bright yellow egg-shaped ikea table when I lived on LI, and something like that would be perfect. And there's an ikea right down the road, and I could probably convince momma to go with and purchase the table: always a plus.

And don't get me started on FAIL-MRT. I've successfully boycotted them for nigh on 10 years, and I don't intend to start supporting them any time soon. (Not that my boycott has any effect on Failmart, and not that ikea is any different from aforementioned bit-box store.)

I'd love another beer, even if it is merely virtual. . . I should go to bed, but I'd really like another, but I'm out of decent beer here at mominems. . . ugh.

Hah, I know what you mean by "Just sitting around, looking at all the EUs, and having a drink in hand". That's why I usually go to a bar with the attitude "I'm not going meet anyone tonight, I'm drinking!". It works quite well actually :)

In Finland, I just hate clubs, so annoying. But when I was in Madrid, we were at the clubs every night, but those clubs were so much better and the people were lot nicer and more interesting. Of course we went to some Irish Pubs and places like that too, but we enjoyed the clubs too (mostly because of the women).

That gaming bar sound so awesome! Too bad we don't have such places here (at least I haven't heard of). We only have these "nerd caves", where you can just play with PC without drinking and I can do that at home.

I know, I haven't written anything about trip yet. Everytime I think that I should write, something comes up and I won't be near computer. But I really try to do it tonight, after I've visited the piercing shop to check that my labret is healed properly and they'll change the pin to shorter one. I may visit some shoe shops to find a pair of completely white shoes. Last saturday, I got myself my first custom made pair of Adidas Superstars, which are just going to stay as decoration, but I'd really want to get a pair of custom shoes that I can use :)

And that's correct, no sugar.

Jeez. I didn't even see the stuff about the gaming bar. . . Find something like that in Austin and we'll rock it out when I'm down there! and I'll find something like that here in case you're ever up in the D.

And I never sit around in my underwear. . . for me it's birthdaysuit or nothing! when gaming/wandering around the house/whatever alone, that is. . .

And @Neks: I look forward to hearing about the trip! but the piercing sounds like not my thing. . . and the shoes sound a bit ska? I used to have some DrMartens black-on-white wingtips that I thought were really snazzy. Good times!

@J6G

Shoes, the favorite thing in the whole world. SHOES SHOES SHOES! Yes, I admit, I'm an addict, but I'm proud of it! And for me, it's sneakers and basket ball shoes. It's been like that for about 8 years now. At the moment, I have 8-12 pairs of shoes, that I use practically every day. It's common for me, that I use 3-4 different pairs in one day. Not a day goes by, that I won't look for new shoes from Internet stores.

Shoes?

Good times!

Myself, I have:
a pair of flip-flops that I wear daily from ~April to ~October;
a pair of fancy tennis shoes that I wear to bars and on non-dressy occasions;
a pair of cheap tennis shoes I wear when bike-riding;
a pair of ludicrously nice dress shoes I wear to interviews and on fancy occasions. . .

so not so much a shoe guy any more.

But back in the day, I was exactly like you: multiple pairs of shoes for any and every occasion. . . I took spare pairs of shoes to school. . . pairs! Good times!

*comes in in a hurry drinks a gallon of water, refill the wolves food and drink supplies for yet another year, quickly check so that the cactus garden is ok in the back, remake the giant squid repellent wards on the way out and run towards the diablo 3 forums for yet another pointless battle of failed communication*

If you look over in the daily, you'll see my woes.

Long story short? HD crashed, lost almost everything created since 9 June 2009, with a few exceptions (but I'm not sure what exceptions. . . hopefully my d2 chars and bookmarks, and recent resumes, but who knows). And now it looks like Ima need to wipe the new HD and start all over again. Yuck.

SO, despite being rather hungover, I desperately need a beer. Beer store here I come!

*Sets out case of Arrogant Bastard for J6G*

Can I have an energy drink? Red Bull, please. Night shift at work, so I'm going to need it.

edit.

Make that double, working the whole night shift instead of short one.

Hello.

Missed a few pages of the Bar by being away! I've looked one or two pages back, but you guys can spam with the best of them! I finished college Wednesday, handed in as much of the reaining work I could, whether I did my best or not is debatable, but it's done and finished now.

I feel like a weight's been lifted! I've been so happy the last few days, took the missus to a posh restaurant all dressed up, got a sick tattoo, watched The Wrestler, Marley & Me, Cube 2, Cube Zero, The Lookout, Candyman. Been listening to the MTV Mash-Up album I accquired, Goldie, Haystak, GLC, Lisa Lashes, and some generic Euphoria. Got a recommendation for a driving instructor, started looking at flats to live in in the next village (where I used to live). Made a big goshdarn to-do list re: spring cleaning and some DIY around the house. Awesome, awesome awesome. Lalala. Lots to catch up on with the barflies and even more to do IRL. Lalala...

Also, one beer please.

*slides Eddie a beer*

Welcome back, FE! and congrats on getting the school work all finished and in! And what did you think of The Wrestler?

I'll take a beer, as well, thanks. . . I'm finding more and more stuff missing since my HD crash: most of it inconsequential, some of it slightly disturbing, and some makes me want to cry. Oh well. That's what I get for not following my backup regiment.

*grabs a handkerchief, dries eyes, and sniffs*

Speaking of disturbing data losses, five of the six pr0n DVDs I bought in Paris have disappeared out my room. Last time I looked there were two or three there. Its very frustrating.

Well I didn't cry as much as you, and I think I laughed a couple of times. My favourite bit was probably seeing that 'The Ayatollah' was an American guy who'd just opened up another used car lot. The wrestling scenes themselves shocked me, if only because (as a lame WWE fan) I've never seen them from that CU docu-style angle. It was a beautifully crafted film, with an annoyingly abiguous yet simultaneously fantastic ending. Marisa Tomei is a great actress, I annoyed Samantha somewhat when I said I'd had a crush on her since My Cousin Vinny.

I'm just killing time in the Bar until Kevin Bishop at 10PM, then it's snack-wiches and a Friday night horror film.
