Re: Black Blood Brothers Mafia Thread
Fantastic game Rlyeh!
For as many power roles as were spread around, I thought the game was very well balanced. The outcome came down to who was targeted when and who was lynched when. Decisions made by the players determined this outcome. I can't think of a better standard for balance.
Masons as different versions of the same player became an issue mostly because the masons tried to keep their masonry secret as long as possible. They were the last to claim and even while claiming, hid significant details like role names. Controversial/suspicious details only become more controversial/suspicious as time goes on. They didn't really go after anyone voting one of the masons. I don't see any hints or talk of hints.
The Shape Shift ability almost certainly provided rewards for faking to have someone else's claim, but so would faking a cop or doc or any other power role. In this case, the fake was enough to not get lynched in the first place. Saving yourself while lynching the real role is gravy. Ankeli would have been lynched the next day. Without the Shape Shift ability, faking a claim like Ankeli did would result in either a mafia lynch then semi-confirmed townie or a townie lynch then a mafia lynch. With the Shape Shift ability, lynching townie one day would STILL result in mafia lynch the next day. However, the Shape Shift ability allows mafia a decent chance at lynching a townie the next day. No matter what, utilizing the Shape Shift ability results in a lynched mafia. Because of that limitation, I don't think it's overpowered.
Also: Why does Ankeli get all the roles which reward lying? It's rigged I say.
In this game, I thought the Shape Shift ability was telegraphed too much to have a big impact, but then I knew about it. I don't know how Ankeli wasn't instantly lynched when he switched from claiming Crow to "whomever BA claims to be" while not raising a peep the day or two earlier when BA first claimed. At a minimum, Ankeli should be expected to test BA by blocking BA the very next night to prove BA's claim and not wait a couple of nights.
I didn't like the idea of ending the day on a lock. For several reasons. First, even though players often make insignificant posts (if they post at all), those posts (or lack of posts) still give insight into their state of mind. Second, lynches usually occur late in the day as it is. By ending the day early when players manage to lock a lynch, you reward delaying of votes and unvotes and revotes. I think a promise to end the day early results in players starting the day later. Lastly, ending the day early messes up schedules. If you want to ask a question and receive an answer before end of the day, you have to ask early enough to receive an answer. Changing the end of day time will mean a lot more questions go unanswered. Ending the day early on lock may be fine for games where a day is a looooong time but not for games where day is only 48 hours.
I believe Caluin Graye called me unoriginal in the dead QT thread, because I always claim doc or cop. Caluin, have you read/played any of my hosted mafia games?
Unoriginal as mafia != unoriginal as host.
(That and not understanding how powerful turn would be).
Turn is powerful but it also needed to be. You gave three townies advance notice of recruitment (not to mention all the vampire based lore). The town had roles to stop turning, empirically detect turning, means to identify the turned/turners and deal with turning once it occurred.
I Still prefer the JK > Doc though, espically in games with a cop.
I agree. Moar jailkeepers!
