Anything Goes D2 Lounge!

I recall someone making a good list of areas to run for firebased characters (without Infinity) and perhaps doing these runs. Maybe it was a thread, maybe it was a post, but I can’t find it. Anyone got a clue?

Edit: nevermind. It was probably this: https://www.purediablo.com/forums/threads/most-weird-area-you-farm.879/#post-21303

Found it by searching my own posts. Had a hunch I would have possibly commented and I had.

Would you guys cube up 2 Lo´s for Sur if it meant you could make Infinity?
I have 3 Sur and could cube up to 2 Ber, but kinda hesitant knowing that High runes are not that rare as on old days and finding a Sur could be not that hard, especially if i went on LK spree. However i do not have immediate real need for the 2 runewords im looking to make with 2x Lo as it would make a 2nd Grief and Fortitude most likely...

For Infinity i would have immediate use.

That probably depends on how many Lo runes you have.

I was in a similar situation, with 3 Sur and perhaps 5 Lo runes. I decided to wait and had a Ber drop after some time. Then I cubed up two Sur into a second Ber and made my precious Infinity. That might have been luck, however.

My general take is to make the runeword(s) that will make playing exciting for you, as more runes will drop as you play. If having Infinity will excite you to do more runs (or do the runs you plan to do more efficiently, I think it’s well worth the investment. Lo runes are more rare than Surs, but they drop and can cubed up from lower runes (assuming you aren’t directing all Ohms to CtA rerolls).

On the specific options here, Infinity opens up lots of builds or runs, including for high-end rune framing at Trav, while a second Grief is mostly about WW barb (which is also a very solid rune farming option). But I think it all comes down to what you plan to do with the Infinity versus the Grief and Fortitude alternatives.

@Naab Definitely make your goal to find another Sur. If you are like me you will find at least one Ber and another Lo before the Sur is found.

To me it comes down to how badly you want an Infinity, whose going to use it , and whether you have a good base for it. I think you also need to look at all 10 of the Runewords that need a Lo. There are several very good Runewords beside Grief and Fortitude.

Thanks for the advice guys. I did end up waiting for drops and got rewarded today by Lo + Sur within few hours, maybe Germany pummeling Scotland was the good luck charm. By the way what´s this talk about Lo being rarer than Sur?

I'm not into the math and let others do it. The Rune Finding League tournaments use a scoring system based on rune rarity. Here is the scoring that's used. As you can see the scoring order doesn't match the Rune order

Pul 3.4
Mal 5.0
Um 5.1
Gul 7.1
Ist 7.5
Ohm 10.1
Vex 10.6
Sur 13.7
Lo 15.1
Jah 18.3
Ber 20.5
Cham 27.5
Zod 71.8

Hi there, I am currently just cruising through Bloody Foothills with my Orpah set based Fury druid and I just got curious.

Anyone knows if there is set number of barbarians there from the start or is it random how many spawn? And if it is random, is there at least some set range?

Just a fun thought since I just recently read in some another thread about someone, who tried to go through the Foothills saving as many barbs as possible.

Got no idea about the barbs :(

Any burger masters here could share if map layout for cow level matters much for efficiency? Do you want as small as map possible or biggest (if it is even variable)?

@Ergro, I could be mistaken, but here's my assertion based on observations:

In contrast to Frigid Highlands, Arreat Plateau, or Frozen Tundra, which each get a little terrain randomness when they are procedurally-generated, I'm almost certain that the Bloody Foothills terrain always has the same fixed map. I believe the same is true for the locations and numbers of the barbarian allies encountered there.

I can't answer @Ergro's question, but I agree with @Swamigoon that the map of the Bloody Foothills never changes. The only other level that I can think of that is unchanging is the WSK Throne of Destruction level. There are several that are close. The Chaos Sanctuary can have slight difference possible around the seals. The 4 arms of the Arcane Sanctuary are the same, but they aren't always in the same location and the summoner location changes too. Finally, there is Nihlathak's level that changes where Nihlathak is located plus there are changes to the tombs.

@Ergro
@Swamigoon
@LouB
What about Durance of hate level 3? The terrain is identical but can't Bremm Sparkfist and his goons also spawn in different locations? Sometimes in the middle and sometimes on the northeast walk by the bloody canal.

If superuniques, who are a fixed component of the level, can spawn in slightly different locations would not npc barbarians operate in the same manner?

@Maltatai Yes, you are correct that the Durance level 3 is physically the same each time. After further thought that is also true of the lowest level of the Catacombs where Andreal is found and the pit that contains Duriel. So, 4 of the 5 Act Bosses reside in areas that don't change and the fifth has very minor changes. Oh, and then there is the Ancients which is another area that doesn't change.

As far as the Barbarian NPCs go what you said makes sense and you might be correct. However, the in town NPCs are always the same so why would the barbarians be different.

@Naab The obvious answer would be the most cows in the smallest area. There is a thread by @ffs in the Community Sticky about build efficiency for certain areas. Here's what he says about the Cow Level.

Map layout: Basically of course "any map will do" given you're not after boss density or something like that. Apart from a Tristram portal relatively close to Stony Field WP, you should look for reasonably narrow corridors in the Cow level, ideally with the middle walled area not having any gaps and taking up a lot of space. Big empty spaces that take long to check are not optimal. Another important factor is having a really circular route – meaning no outer bulges to check, and loactions where you can often herd a lot of cows. Even the best map layout can still be a bad map if you get evenly distributed 5-10 cows per screen.

Tutuwononetoo has made it to Level 98.

Now I'm talking bets as to whether I get to level 99 or find a Tyrael's might first, but the most likely outcome is that I give up in frustration and play something else.

Easily 99 there i would say though you most likely wouldn´t give me good odds on it :D

On another story, i stumbled on some weird bug yesterday in Act 2 tombs - i must have clicked on something, maybe a jar, and suddenly could move around like Usain Bolt on his better days. Known bug?

Edit: turns out this "bug" was just Blaze triggering from Phoenix on level up. Never ever i have used this spell before, pretty embarrassing :oops:
