hahaha

Channel Wathombe

Goodevening, all. I have tested and found that even if you are in act 1 hell, as long as you are in hell difficulty, you may still party and enter the secret moo moo farm. My sorc, although weak in resists, didn't do too bad in a game with 3 others. So, I look foward to seeing Team USWest online tonight.

I will be located in channel Wathombe, so join me there. I will sit there awaiting others while I help wifey around the house with a few chores.

Cheers!!!! :drink:

I thought i would post a little information on the cow level for those that might not be as familiar with it.

How do I make the Cow level portal?
You must defeat Baal earning the quest for the given difficulty in which you want to make the cow portal. Once you have done that, find Wirt's leg in Tristram and put it and a tomb of town portal in your horadric cube, go to act 1 rogue's camp and hit the transmute button; the red cow level portal will appear.

How do I enter the portal?
Just walk on in...there is no restriction -as far as quests or levels- on entereing the portal. If some one does hostile you or you go hostile on some one else, you will not be able to enter the cow portal.

How do I lose the ability to make the cow portal?
There are two conditions that must be met for you to lose the ability to make the portal, all other variables are irrelevant:
1) You must be in the cow level when the Cow King dies.
2) The person who kills the Cow King does so for the first time in that difficulty.

So is there anything I should know about the Cow King, so I dont kill him?
The Cow King is lightning immune in all difficulties.

He will always be near his stockade and spawn roughly near it's bottom.
Below is an ascii diagram of the stockade with x representing the most common points where the Cow King will spawn.
Code:
     /\
    / \

What can Hell cows drop?
Runes: El - Zod
Set Items: All
Uniques: any unique with a qlvl of 81 or lower.
Cow Champions: as above but including any unique of qlvl 83 and lower.
Cow Bosses and minions: as above but including any unique qlvl 84 and lower.
Cow King: Anything from TC66 and a qlvl of 64 or lower; Vex rune or lower.

What characters make good cow killers?
I can only speak from my experience, as I have not played a wide variety of characters capable of killing cows effectively, some of my suggestions are based soley on what I have witnessed others doing.

Amazon: Lightning Fury amazons are the most effective cow killers in the game. As for Bowazons, all I can say is that Freeze Arrow is very useful.

Sorceress: Blizzard is very strong in the cow level. Fireball and Meteor are more difficult to use but work well too. Lightning or very very high level Nova might work but I have not seen anyone succesfully use either skill on the cow level.

Assassin: Lightning Sentry and Death Sentry will both work.

Necromancer: Corpse Explosion works wonders on the cow level. Lower Resistances, Amplify Damage, and Decrepify are all excellant curses to use here.

Paladin: Hammerdin's can pull their own weight here. Conviction, Holy Freeze, Fanatacism, Defiance and Concentration are all helpful auras.

Barbarian: Sorry but melee chracters do not fair well in the cow level in general, but all of the war cries are helpful to a party and Find Item can score some extra treasure.

Druid: I have not seen a druid in cow levels in 1.10 so i am not sure, but I imagine an elemental druid will do as well as several other classes here, and better than a melee character, and of course his sages will be useful.

I hope this helps. Good luck finding runes everyone :)

Well, I haven't bothered to read everything - but I get that we are still without a single new runeword? I'm beginning to think that they are going to be higher level and not nearly as worthwhile as I was hoping...
Anyway, I'm not exactly sure when I'll be unpacked and ready to play some D2 again - but I'll definitely try to hook up w/ the USEast group when I get there.
Dan

Especially Outpost 2 players... wow, that one is dating way back).
Or good ol' Thor's Hammer in Final Fantasy on NES1

Oh and 916_Andy, if you're starting a WHCL zon (most likely a javazon) I can get some items for ya, and probably start ya off with a tstrokes if you so desire. Tad tired tonight, message me if you see me on though

Quick note about the word "Dweomer" from the low level runes list. I think it is plural for "dwarves".
Example: "Senadra is highly valued in the elven court as an explorer. She has had the misfortune and blessing of being raised by Dwemeor..."
(taken from a specific source as well, cookies to who ever can guess what it is. ;) )

Axes would be my best guess for said word.

Claw testing

ITH/EL
AMN/ETH

That is all, was able to not die in the cow level, however, I dont think I made much of a difference. We will see in the long run... Im out. Night all

Freezing Arrow with pierce is great, for the simple fact hundreds of cows can be stopped right in their tracks in a single go. My problems with a bowazon is that damage is fairly minimal, 50% Physical Resistance from hell coupled with the ammount of life cows have makes bow damage extremely low for cow level. When I get seperated from the group i'm often fighting off one group of cows for five to ten minutes just because my damage isn't great.

Keep in mind i've yet to focus on cold synergies (instead choosing to focus on fire synergies to counter-act the 1 second casting delay of immolation by boosting the damage as much as possible {higher damage = less casting per monster = less delay = faster progress}, however I can say with certainty that high damage melee characters (telsadin's in particular *glances at Wathombe*) benifit extremely well from having a bowazon throwing freezing arrow around like crazy.

The 50% physical resistance from hell doesn't exist anymore since 1.10 patch. It's just that cows have insane HP.

Tlaloc, what did you try those two words in ? You didn't state it ;)

Also, I saw someone tested STAR in a flail. This is probably an interesting word to add to the "item-indicating acronyms list" : Sol/Shael/Sur Tir/Tal/Thul Amn Ral in a mace (ie in a Flail, Knout or Scourge). The combinations without Sur are easy to test, and those with Shael are certainly the more likely (so Sols in blue and Shaels in green).

*Gwaihir-Valar... might be able to find time to join in on some of the USEast cows... for hell chars, got a hammerdin and a trapper(death/lgt/fireblast) who can both pull their weight there...

Team USWest was a great time last night me boyo's!!!! Cheetah, Mouse was funny as heck. Just no more dying, LOL. Like I have room to talk, My sorc died on average 2-5 times per game until I stopped using energy shield (thanks for the tip).

Freakinrikin, wathombe cheetah and everyone else, that was a kickin time. Too bad we didn't find anything over the Hel rune, although that sheal I found in the last game made me feel better about the whole thing.

I saw a post about some negative attitude towards rune gathering, I think and all I have to say is this. If something was easy, then it is not worth while. You will really find out something about a person, their morality and their character depending how hard that they work towards a goal that they set in front of them, especially when pickins are slim (or pathetic, as we all agreed last night)

Irregardless, the most important thing is that we had alot of fun, sold a bunch of sides of beef to McDonalds corp. and hopefully the dodgers will win tonight, Wathombe.

As for me, I stated that tonight I will be pulling an all nighter. Thanks to Cheetah, this will be a little easier on me, due to his generous loaning of a few nice items to me. With a Viscerant, suicide branch and a killer +2 to skills ammy, I went from 80% fast cast to an amazing/whopping 140% fast cast, and the difference was GREATLY notable. Unfortunately, even with maxed orb/cl/lightning, my damage in a 6 player game wasn't something worth noting. :spy: Still looking for the high damage.

In closing, I am highly confident that team USWest will succeed in finding higher level runes with more cow games as we go. Tlaloc24, thanks again for the Spire, it will help me, especially with my new sorc that I am going to create, specifically for cows. Blizzard/Ice Blast or Glacial Spike/Meteor/Fireball is what I think I'll go with, since my current sorc I created for Hell countess. (as cheetah noticed last night, hehe)

Wathombe - Hurry up and kick that wifey and kiddy out of house, we'll team up and pull a few all nighters and possibly have something better to post forthwidth.

Until tonight.

Cow report:
Cow Team West was definitely a great time last night. My killing speed is still a bit slow at clvl 78, and as a melee character I'm in trouble if I get mobbed, but I surprised myself by only dying once (then bragging about it and immediately dying for the second and last time of the evening). I would love to say that the little half-dozen cow mobs going down in a flash were my doing, but that was usually Cheetah standing behind me with his Javazon. Big thanks again to all the higher-level characters for saving us lower-level types more than once.
I don't think I can play that long every night, unfortunately. Two hours of cow-killing followed by a full hour of testing was a bit much. Shorter sessions and the occasional long session, though, yes.
Who was playing Mousewraith? Was that Mokz? Do I need to put him on the list?

Dan: Welcome back! How's married life treating you? How was the honeymoon? We're still plugging away. Check out this past Monday's Weekly Update thread (probably on page two of the stats forum by now) to catch up.

Molegirl: I looked Dweomer up when I was doing the word association and found it to mean magic, actually, but now I can't remember where I looked it up.

Ghist: Again, thank you for the relatively expensive tests. :worship:

Apom: Star added.

Later, folks.

hmm.... too bad all my friends who played season 1 decided to not do season 2....

im considering playing, making a cow killer build. javazon or necro maybe.

i think a dragon tail/death sentry assasin could probably do cows.

Evilspork - If you make an cow killer, I suggest a skelemancer with maxed CE/RS/SM and your choice of curse, amp, lower resist or decrepify.

Very good build.

All - Team USWest, are we convining tonight for more MOO MOO farming. Please respone.
