23 Runeword Search Thread

i dont know if this has been mentioned but is it possible blizzard is trying to pull a fast one and make some rune words work in ethereal only?

Hmm. I'm not sure that it's even possible within the game parameters to select for "ethereal" as an eligibility qualification for a runeword. The runes.txt file (from which we took the 1.07 list) does not have a field for ethereal or non-ethereal, I don't think, so I can't imagine how the program would implement that.

Anybody else know? Thrugg, are you reading?

wathombe, i'm currently savinig the soldiers for Tal Ral and Ort runes. i have 2 sets of it to try out Anicent's Pledge. 1st try i'll do it correctly, Ral Ort Tal. 2nd try i'll do Ral Tal Ort. i'll edit in a bit to see if the gold stays or whatever

Edit: both seemed to do the same thing. i don't see a gold color/change/stay or whatever

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I'm pretty sure the "gemmed" tag appears when the first rune is put in, whether it's the beginning of a runeword or not. The runeword name and the gold color then appear only if the runeword is completed.

Thanks for testing that Andy. And a good idea, terflit. Too bad it didn't work, though.

What about...

I am sitting here thinking about two rune word combinations that spell out something. The obvious one that was stuck in my head yesterday was Tir/Ith Tirith derived from Minas Tirith from LOTR fame...

Has anyone fleshed out words that can be made by two rune permutations? Im thinking that this might go somewhere? Then again, I could be just adding fuel to the speculation flame and ultimately create more work for us... What say any of you?

I was thinking along similar lines but didn't want to mention anything for fear it would discourage people. My thought was, what if instead of a new runeword working in any helm, it has to be, say, an exceptional or elite item ... or worse, a specific item like a Giant Conch (conch is a shell, so maybe SEA shell? Shael El/Eld/Eth Amn?) =\ Or a word might work in a socketed hand scythe but not a scissors katar. I think this is unlikely, but good god would that be depressing, heh.

I saved 60% on my auto insurance by switching to Gul/Ko?
Ko/Ko/Ko/Lum is my favorite soda ^_^
"I am tho evil and full of Mal/Ith/Ith/Nef" thaid Thteve o_O

These are fun :)

You can add me to the east list, but I am still rather inactive. School and extra cirriculars are taking most of my time.

First: Wathombe, could you add my name to the forum list?
Nickname = Remlin / Acct = *Remlin3 / USEAST sc

Second: bipolar, Good wordplay...but UGH

Third: tests done
Sword(two-handed): Ith,Tir = gemmed
Knife(kris): Tir,Ort,Nef = gemmed
Necro Head: Sol,Ral = gemmed

edit: more tests
spear: Tal,Eth,Nef = gemmed
Jagged Star: Tal,El,Nef = gemmed

Anyways, I would be happy to help out except my only halfway decent character (lvl 70 Frenzy barb) just died on WHCL. Working on a Hammerdin, should be able to run NM cows by this weekend, feel free to add me.

I have a few runes stashed away, nothing higher than Shael I'm afraid, but am happy to donate. I think acronyms are the way to go at the moment.

More ideas:
LASH (Lum Amn Sol/Shael Hel) in a flail
HEART in armor
MITHRL (magical metal in LoTR)
DAZE in staff?
MURDER
TRUE in bow?
SHOT in bow?

Anyway, if anyone here wants a few low level runes (couple shaels, a sol or two, an amn or two, etc) for testing, /w *bp101 WHCL
Probably won't be on until tomorrow late.

Bipolar, if you want to rune nite or hell cows for runes on WHCL, my javazon will be glad to help, and I can help some with items as well. *YellowDyeNo5 or *SinsO_TheFlesh are the accounts

I've been reading this thread for a while now, and I'd like to volunteer to help out.

I'm on USEAST Ladder. I have a l86 Hammerdin who can go pretty much anywhere (not terribly well, but...) a Barb in the mid 20s, and a Sorc in the 40s. My acct name is *JackShotssolo I don't particularly have many runes, but I can at least contribute some time to help people with countess/cow/forge runs or whatever.

Jack

I don't know why I fixated on this word, but I've been trying to put THOR in a hammer. I've also been working on using more than the first letter of the runes (just in case). Too bad I've only been able to try one attempt.

If anyone wants to help, it can go anywhere from THul ORt on up. I know that the O can also be Ohm, but using Ort, they're all lower runes, and only 7 possibilities left:

THul ORt
Tir Hel ORt
Tal Hel ORt
Thul Hel ORt
THul Ort Ral
Tir Hel Ort Ral
Tal Hel Ort Ral GEMMED (my one attempt)
Thul Hel Ort Ral

This is just to try something, since I doubt they'll work. But, with no clues, we ARE grasping at straws.

Wathombe: Indeed, Ladder East. There used to be a legend, which I'm unsure applies now that there are three Asia realms, but... NL/L meaning non-ladder/ladder and E/W/S/U/A/T/I for East/West/South america/eUrope/Asia/asiaTwo/Indonesia (Asia 3 including Australia). Seeing as we're doing all of this ladder-only I figured my non-ladder accounts wouldn't make sense to list.

Drawde and others: I admit these ideas are good, but when have you EVER known Blizzard to make sense? THOR for a hammer is nice (I'd look at four-worders and the effect of TIR/TAL/THUL and ORT/OHM in weapons to decide which to test first), but almost all of the original runewords created weren't for a specific build, just randomly thrown out there. I've only found one good use of MALICE, it doesn't use MAL, AMN, LUM/LO, etc, and that helps one specific build that no one else plays (I'll write a guide some day). Mostly they're all-around words that didn't require much brainpower to write up. Most of the original D2 team is gone, and anyone left doesn't seem interested in fixing the overwhelming bugs in the patch they recently released. .10 is a debacle and I'd rather have .11 or better/proper crafting matrix than new runewords. Besides, the BotDs for necromancers are either of the new unique wands. Get used to it - those builds, among others, are overpowered.

Alright, now that that's out of the way, it's been stated that etherealness isn't used for a prerequisite on runewords (wouldn't make sense to start using it now with everyone making BotD out of ethereal berserker axes), and I seriously doubt anything other than class-specificness can be in types either (this isn't crafting). What about something more disturbing, making all of this work a total loss, like activating different runewords on different realms? Before you try using a LOGICAL reason Blizzard would do this, like trying to even out the number of builds (why would they care and how would they keep track) think of a more BLIZZARD-like reason: because they're Blizzard.

One more thing, I think we should keep track of all relevant URLs to this thread and directly relevant information (so it doesn't get reprinted or take a week to sort through 50 pages of posts). Either the thread starter or a replacement for that person - as in someone who's constantly updating a certain spreadsheet (damn that thing is large) - would be a good choice. The link for the sheet, link to available players for runehunting in each realm, pages for rune drop frequencies, etc. I can do it if it's not a problem with anyone else and if I won't get thrashed for not posting every day. This way anyone new to the thread can get caught up by reading the first/last pages to find out the thread purpose and developements.

Cheetah and I did 4 cow runs yesterday and netted an ort, sol, and shael. I discovered that my sorc could probably handle a 5-man cow game.I'll try out a few recipes as soon as Wathombe makes a new ss. By the way Wath, what was ur previous name here on the forums? And what part of LA do ya live in? I'm in Reseda in the San Fernando Valley.

One further idea.

Is there a way to make an operator channel without a special program? I figure it'd be easier to find people that way. If so, suggestions (like OP RPGForums) are welcome. I might have to get another IRC client, like Trillian, just to find you guys.

Otherwise, why not just make hell cow games called RPGForum Cow001//001, hellforge rush games RPGForum Rush01//01 and hell Countess runs RPGForum Count1//1. This way at least we can spot games ASAP and join in. True, there would be quite a few cow games to test if lots of people join, but we'll adapt if something fortunate like that happens.
