23 Runeword Search Thread

Hey, I'm back.....looks like I missed a bunch....anyway, I don't know that I'll be able to play much these next several weeks. I plan on watching the Olympics a lot too. Anyway, this is starting to sound cliched, but keep up the good work, I'll do what I can. :)

dem hints

in continuing my in-game search for hints implemented server side during the ladder re-set. i came across something interesting. you may check this out for yourself in the game. I have a 56k connection and trying to upload pictures just plain sucks. in Lut Gholein between Geglash and the Water,,, i kinda thought about those hints a bit so i went to check out to see if there'd be anything there. Well there is, it's kinda just there , a board standing upright aginst a wall, between the bottom house and the building geglash is in. it's got 4 inscriptions on it. I took a good look at the runes and then this board and well.. i'm not sure. that's mybest guess lol, the bottom inscription could definitely be Thul rune, the second one might be Ral but on it's side, the third looks a El rune if it's any, and the top one i have no clue. it looks like it was a rune but part of it was cut off. I'm probably jumping to conclusions, but the only weapon Geglash mentions in his speech is a Sword, he says "bla bla bla,,, sword and such" something about maggots. anyways could it be, the hint revealed? if this board has 4 rune inscriptions. then 4 socket sword with X, Ral, El, Thul... i don't know, someone verify this in-game and double check, maybe you'd be able to figure out what the top rune could be. and maybe i'm wrong about Ral and El but that bottom one is most definitely Thul

This inscription is on several boards around Lut...you can get a clearer look at it on some other ones, although I'm still not sure what runes they point to.

I'll give you a high level massive necro on classic in a week. I can start shortly.

If you play classic with LoD installed, does it require the LoD CD? Otherwise, it may take a while longer.

The in-game hint idea would be nice, because i was actually wondering about an inscription on an unopened grave in the forgotten tower - it has a picture of a shield on it and the letters PIVS -Pul Ith/Io/Ist Vex Sol/Shael/Sur........hehe, a little high for my rune range.

But, I found both this tomb and InsaneFarmer's board on the single player game, so if they were added as clues it was quite a while ago. Tomorrow i'd like to take a look at some of the towns, but has anyone noticed such signs or the like that are found on the ladder and not on SP?
 
This is 'probably' a scam because the same guy who posted it posted some fake screenshots earlier this week - but this came from the d2 board:

Obviously the 'VEGAS'=lucky = mf/ gf / fi / fp seem to flow - but I'm suspect. Unfortunately I'm far from having the runes to test it out.

Definantly looks fake to me. A Vex is farely easy to get ahold of and the Gul as well. You could double ist Ali baba for the price of a Gul, but........The 308% ED and the double leech, followed by Find Item is very suspicious.

I'd be willing to personally give up an 2 ohms for akimbo Lucky's on my Barb.

2 Isted Ali Baba gives around 150 mf at level 90 but the killability is very poor for a barb mfing with 2 ali's. This runeword, if it was real, could yield some super MF enigma mf'ing barbs. Even on another char, it's actually very good.

147% MF (Apart from 150 at lvl 90 ali baba) and +1 find item.. Would work wonders on a sorc. I doubt this is real, but it looks kind of realistic.

On another note, if anyone is on USEast Hardcore Ladder and are in need of Sol, Amn, Shaels let me know. I have about 50 of each and I don't need them all.

Nice find in the tower. I haven't had a chance to look at the in-game graphics for hints yet, but I will. As for whether or not they were there before or are visible in SP/NL/L: it may well be that the symbols have been there from the beginning, for no reason whatsoever, but now the programmers decided to use those symbols for (some of) the new runewords.

Very generous offer, Ike, but that's a lot of time invested. Be sure there are 6 or 7 forum members who will actually do the runs with you before you put the time in. As I said, I play on West, but I would happily create an East account to be a warm body for a rushee. So I'm one. :)

EDIT: One more point: "lucky" is an adjective, not a noun.

I didn't get to play last night because my ISP was down :grrr: , and I've got some work to do today for Monday. If I finish, though, I'm finally almost to Hell Countess, so I can start serious runs as my Pally gets stronger. More later.

Actually, that's not true anymore...I won't be able to play half as much over the next while, and am considering not even bothering to keep my accounts going...

I think I'll do some testing myself. Sometimes it sucks to be on Hardcore because most people don't play on it in threads like this.

It takes me 10 minutes to do a hell rush to forge and about 30 minutes to get a lvl 1 through normal and nightmare. I have several chars that I make dedicated to forge rushes but I actually am really interested in this classic idea.

That would save alot of time.

:sigh: if anyone would be able to make a time I could rush a group of 7 people to hell for higher runes. The only problem I see is this being on Hardcore Ladder.

Hey, ive been following ur guys search for awhile now. I was thinken that I could try and help a litte. I'm on West although it seems that most of u are on east. I would be happy to help with some east rushs, also I think i'll help add to some of the list for armor/helms. I noticed that we r sorely lacking on the helms thus far so i gonna go and try to post some of those.
 
Well, surprise surprise the original poster changed to say it's fake. FWIW there's also a report from somebody using MH supposedly seeing somebody using an 'Adventure' shield - Pul Ral Ist Lo...

As I said, Ive worked on the helm socketing a little. Thee were all done on US West ladder.

I was just wondering if anyone had done the math as to how many 4 rune combinations there are, because i just did. I came up with 1,284,129 which is alot.

For 3 sockets its not as discouraging, 99,617.

I dont even WAN'T to do the math for 5 and 6. But anyway i just wanted everyone to know that your looking for needles in haystacks.

Could you insight me into how you came up with those numbers? I can't seem to figure it out.

To figure out the number of possible combinations of runes up to Zod you would simply take 33^3=35937. So how did you get 99,617?

Even 35,937, as low as it is, isn't practical to try and start testing combinations with, but it might be practical to practice with a subset of the runes, say el - io. Io is the 16th rune, so 16^3 = 4096.
 
he did it through permutations. which I think go somehting like this.
Sense there are 33 runes and the order in whihc they r put in matters. so for the first slot has 33 possibilities. slot 2 also has 33 possibilities so it is 33x33. This goes on until u ahve the amount of slots u r looking for. so the possibilities for 6 socketed items would be 33x33x33x33x33x33x33. Now sense blizzard isnt likely to realese a zod,zod,zod,zod,zod,zod runeword, a lot of these can be discounted. But the possibility is still there.
PS: i'm pretty sure this is how this works. not 100% though.

I owe lots of responses and updates tonight, but wanted to throw this quick one in first:

You're right, Psy, in that three-rune possibilities equal 33^3, but only for one item type. Sadly, even 99,617 is too low, as we are tracking sixteen item types right now. It should be around (33^3)*16.

I believe I figured the total possibilites for all 16 of our two-rune item grids and it was something like 16,000.
