[2015] The Committed Tournament [by kestegs]

Bone Wall was the hero while clearing the Bloody Foothills. Bones would cast a wall between him and the burning archers and then he could cast spears without taking any damage. I would then cast another one a bit further into the screen and advance behind it. It kind of felt like Bones was doing a tank push, for anyone who is familiar with Star Craft 2. The open areas of Act 5 are some of my favorites because in NM the monster draws are pretty easy and you can rack up experience real quick.

Slingers in the Frigid Highlands made life interesting with their javelins being able to pierce walls/prisons. Bone Armor earned its money during this area. Ran into a double boss pack of unravelers in the Pit of Archeron. Extra Fast Multishot and Manaburn Multishot. Not any trouble, but I had forgotten they could spawn as guest monsters. D2 has a way of finding the enemies you hate the most and making sure you get to face lots of them…There were no skellies with them so they just got prisoned and speared. Bones had his very first full juvie drop from this pack.
1609535787250.png

Bones actually had his first Io drop in the Frigid Highlands. He is very thankful we were able to cube one from Dols early, as this would have been a long time to wait for the White wand.

I muled in a special piece of gear I’ve had in mind before entering the Crystalline Passage for the underground tunnels of Act 5, the always handy Ring of Telekinesis. Bones was not planning on having any angry packs spawn on his fragile head after opening an evil urn. Strategy was to place a few walls between the urn and Bones, then use TK to pop it. Spawned monsters would immediately get prisoned. This strategy worked like a charm! Bones was prepared for the Blood Mana curse this time, and usually resorted to hanging out behind his walls watching Kyoko work while it wore off. I was usually carrying an extra super healer in the pack for these situations, so I would keep firing away and down the super healer with ~60% life left. I could usually finish clearing the room and end up with full health after.
1609535793229.png

Frozen River had ghosts, bone mages, and sirens, which made for a pretty relaxed clear. Found a 3 socket Gothic Bow in the Glacier Trail, so Kyoko got an improved Edge bow. I can’t remember exactly but I made a new helmet for Kyoko in either late Act 4 or early act 5 when I found a 3 socket helm and stuffed it with the best +min and max damage jewels I had.

Bones cleared up to the Ancients Way, then came back to do Pindle and Nilly when he found the Ancients Way WP almost as soon as entering that area. Temple Guards, Returned, and Prowling Dead in the Halls of Anguish. Nightlords, Razerspine, and Infidels in the Halls of Pain. Not super dangerous but it did keep Bones on his toes because the Nightlords get frenzied up real fast and the Infidels are just fast in general. Bones went through almost all the charges on his TP staff down here to escape his own prisons. It was still safer to drop a prison as soon as I saw these guys coming, which because of the narrow hallways and the darkness down here usually ended up with one of them in the prison with Bones. A quick TP out, another prison to hold everything down and then spear away.
1609535800238.png

Prowling Dead, Hell Temptress, and Returned Archers in the Halls of Vaught. Bones used CE on all of the corpses around Nilly, then put a bunch of prisons up and started spearing. Nilly tele’d around a bit but he stayed away from Bones. He went down quickly and quietly. Bones didn’t get any good drops down here, but he did see 4 different white/grey shakos…
1609535806559.png

Bones had a great drop for pretty much every tourney but this one in the Ancients Way. Rolled 39% MF.
1609535817666.png

Also had a Mal rune drop in the Icy Cellar from a Champ pack of Frozen Creepers. Not really sure what can be done with a Mal in this tourney.
1609535824741.png

Ancients spawned Cursed (Leaper), Extra Fast (Thrower), and Teleport (Whirler). Bones put a bunch of walls down to get in the way before hitting the alter and running cowardly away, and the end result was only the leaper coming after us at first. I put him in prison and he just stood there for a while not doing anything while Bones and Kyoko went to town on him. He finally decided with ½ life left to start leaping again. Bones just kited back and forth spamming as many Bone Spirits as he could before he leaped again, and then when he landed they would all hit him! The thrower was next, and he was super easy once he got prisoned. The whirler was a bit more interesting because prisons and walls don’t stop him. I was able to get Kyoko prisoned in with him at one point so he stopped whirling for a while and just attacked her. I spammed Spirit at him as well because it was difficult to get Spears to hit mid whirl unless he is whirling directly at Bones, which we were determined not to have happen. Spirits made quick work of him. Finally tally was 1 super healer and 3 super mana pots used!
1609537532607.png

Bones hit 400 base energy with the stat points from hitting level 74 in the WSK3.

Throne had Burning Souls, Serpent Magus, and Horadrim Ancients. Bones was sucking down healing pots for this clear with all the piercing damage flying around and Bone Armor being useless against it. CE was used on corpses so none of the Souls could be resurrected. The waves were super easy. Bone Prison keep everything trapped, so Bones and Kyoko could fire away without any issues. Bones had to run around a bit during Wave 3 to dodge the hydra bolts, but the other 4 waves didn’t cost Bones a single point of life. Lister is looking very sad all alone by himself here:
1609535854417.png

Baal went crazy right away with Blood Mana and Festering Appendages, so the beginning of the fight was really chaotic as Bones tried to get away from the Appendages without spearing them. Bones was finally able to duck into a corner and wait the curse and appendages out. This fight was frantic, as Baal would hit us with Blood Mana immediately when we got anywhere near him. Bones would try to find a spot where we could see Baal and would start letting Spirits fly while downing greater healers every 2 seconds or so. We could usually go for ~10 seconds before we would pop out a TP and restock pots, unless Baal cloned himself or cast an appendage that could hit Bones. This fight took a long time, with Bones health fluctuating a bunch during the whole fight (never in a NDE kind of way, but once we started spamming Spirits life would continuously drop even while drinking pots the whole time. Spear would have worked better because its damage is only bit lower than Spirits and the mana cost is about half, so Blood Mana wouldn’t have hurt as bad. I just couldn’t consistently get them to hit Baal enough so we felt that Spirit was worth the extra pain it would cost us. Bones ended up burning 18 TP scrolls during this fight! This was actually one of the most fun battles I’ve had in D2, with Baal and Bones both being pretty evenly matched. It was also one of the first times I can remember Baal actually seeming like and end game boss. Bones, however, was the victor! If we make it to Hell Baal, that fight should be pretty epic!
1609535868465.png

The TP into the cows put us into a great starting spot with no cows immediately in sight. The Cow King came out early in the clear and wasn’t a problem. The cows themselves were pretty challenging because they have a bunch of HP at P8. Bones handled large crowds by funneling them with walls into a narrow corridor, the prisoning the closest cow. Bones could usually get off a decent number of spears before the cows broke through. Bones had an Io and a Dol drop during this clear. Bones has had 3 Hel runes for a little while now but it didn’t do us any good to cube them into an Io and then not have the Hel that we needed to make the Lionheart. The Dol was cubed with the 2 other Dols that Bones has to make a 4th Hel, which was then used to make a third Io, which finally results in the long awaited Lum!
1609535889602.png

Bones will now be doing a bunch of shopping, gambling, and gear rearranging to prepare for Hell. The newly minted Lionheart and a newly created Edge Composite Bow will fuel this spree. I will post full details of Bones setup before beginning Act 1 Hell.

Conqueror Bones, level 75 Energy P&B Necromancer, with Kyoko the Fire Rouge. Act 1 Hell.

Another update for Splat. He found himself in Harrogath at just the wrong time because of the siege, which was the only thing on anyone's mind. He and Emilio were actually pretty stoked about their fortunes, because of the magnitude of the drop from Diablo. Of the three pieces of gear on Emilio, the Tal Rasha's Horadric Crest and Hwanin's Justice were immediately equipped for strong upgrades. The Iceblink armor still provided a valuable means of limited crowd control and corpse disposal. However, with the addition of the Ice Blast on Hwanin's weapon, the Iceblink became slightly redundant so we started looking for upgrades to end game armor as well.

Here's a shot of some more big, pointy teeth.
1609535962665.png

There were gloams in the Frozen River, which hurt A LOT, given Splat's small amount of life and his lack of lightning resists (in the 20s). Each bolt took as much as maybe 30% to 40% of his life and he got hit probably 10 times in the level. Fortunately they went down pretty quickly to bone spear and Emilio. Here's a neat shot of the Anya guardians having no chance for success. Who needs life when the bad guys are powerless? (don't fret for Splat, I addressed the lightning resist problem later).
1609537450525.png

My last tournament bonemancer died in the NM Glacial Trail. This go-round didn't exactly have a stair trap but the frenzytaurs were close enough to the stairs that I was hesitant to cast any walls or prisons, lest I bring more from the unexplored path on my flank. Fortunately I was able to get into position to pierce most of them at once and the new White wand did not disappoint.
1609536009902.png

Here is a similar situation in the Infernal Pit. Normally Doom Knights on /P8 hit pretty hard but they were tame and went down in a line. It is almost not quite fair.
1609536018347.png

As I continued to make ground toward the Arreat Summit, I continued to see what I could get useful for Emilio. A nice three socket embossed plate dropped in the act, which I knew would make a good Duress or Treachery, since I had runes for both of them. Also, an ethereal Ogre Axe dropped and started my gears spinning. Splat had found an Um and a Lem, meaning he could get crushing blow from a Strength/Duress combo using only the Um, or he could forego the crushing blow and have a very fast attack with a Crescent Moon/Treachery combo using both runes. I decided before getting near the Ancients that I would upgrade to either combo and based my decision on how the cube treated it. If I got one socket, then I would stick with Hwanin's Justice for the big fight and only upgrade his armor.

See the initial stats with the gear he had (Tal Rasha's Crest, Hwanin's Bill, and Iceblink). I put the Ogre Axe into the cube and out popped one with three sockets! So a Crescent Moon/Treachery combo was in Emilio's future. No crushing blow but a very fast attack with Venom, Static Field, and some Fade for when the going gets tough.
1609537467893.png

However, the Ogre Axe needed 185 strength to equip, and poor Emilio only had 164. So down to Face Nihlathak and get some more experience to raise Emilio's strength by two levels, to 167. Splat had gambled a coronet with +18 strength, so by doffing Tal Rasha's Crest (thus losing the 10% life leech temporarily), Emilio could equip the big stick at level 72.

Here's the big dog: I'm very happy with it.
1609537476972.png
Here's the Treachery. I'm happy with it too. About 20 minutes after I made this, an Ethereal 3 os Embossed Plate dropped, with something like 421 defense. I kept it in case I get another Lem down the road (or an Um and want to make Duress for more CB). It matters because Emilio is a Defiance merc and the defense is multiplied by his aura.
1609536055245.png
Here's some more flayers going to the dentist. I attacked Nihlathak's levels at this point to get more strength for Emilio to equip his Crescent Moon. He's still using Hwanin's Justice down here. Let me tell you though, 85% IAS (40% on the weapon and 45% on Treachery) is pretty impressive and he still took stuff down pretty quickly.
1609536062366.png
Check out Emilio's damage increase with his upgraded weapon. He has Venom going here as well.
1609536070801.png
Nihlathak was mana burn, har dee har har. Not quite as bad as teleport but still... You can see that Emilio hit level 72, put on the +18 strength tiara and benefitted from Fade during the figth with Nihlathak. I stood well behind and spammed CE as necessary. Emilio is angry that the monsters laugh at his Tiara. They sneer at him and call him Princess but he gets the last laugh with his 2000+ damage strikes and Static Fields and Chain Lightning.

Bones gambled a bunch of amulets/circlets/gloves from Anya. Ended up getting some pretty decent amulets, including a 75life/14all res one. Also got a better Circlet (+53 life). Bones prayed to the socket gods and took it to Larzuk with dreams of a P. Ruby and resistance rune, but alas the gods saw fit to only provide the one… I put an Ort into it because Bones light res wasn’t looking so great for Hell, so we are hoping the extra res makes up for losing 30ish life. Bones also power shopped Larzuk for a plated belt of the whale with a decent resistance affix. Took a while, and I saw many 90+ life belts, before getting a Russet Plated Belt of the Whale (+99 life, 19 fire res). We had found a plain white blade bow somewhere in Act 5, so I rolled it in the cube hoping for 4 sockets. Once again, Bones must have angered the socket gods as they decided one socket was plenty in the bow as well…

I played around with a bunch of different gear setups before settling on the ones below. These provided the best balance of life and resistances.

Bones Setup:

Grim Clutches Chain Gloves: 2 Str, 1 Dex, 11 CR, 26 FR, 6 PR

Rainbow Ring: 11 All res
Circlet of the Colossus: 53 Life, 30 LR
Bones's White Bone Wand: +8 Bone Spear
Gemmed Gargoyle Head: +3 Bone Spear, 38 All res

Bones is now ready to brave Hell. We are still deciding what to do once we max Bone Wall (maxed with the Den skill point). I had stated earlier that I didn't want to use CE as a killing spell but I am waffling on this now. I can't think of anything else that would really help Bones. Putting points into Teeth only increases spear/spirit damage a little bit, and I won't have enough points to get a decent Poison Explosion so I feel like I'm left with CE. If anyone has any thoughts on this I would appreciate them!

OldSoldier: That is some seriously awesome gear that Emilio is rocking! Bones is trying to stare longingly at that damage screenshot without making Kyoko feel jealous. Great progress with Splat and Sharon! My playing time is probably going to slow down a bit the next few weeks so Splat will probably pass us by. I'm hoping to at least make a decent start into Act 1 today. I look forward to stealing his techniques and strategies as you take him through Hell!

Everyone else: Excellent progress and writeups as always!

Here’s a tactic Splat likes to use in open areas with archers. I would imagine that dangerous situations would be limited to extra strong multishot archers who could knock off the 700 HP that these walls have in short order and then have another volley with Splat’s name on them right afterwards. Hasn't happened yet though.
1609537156406.png

You can see Emilio testing out his new gear (Fade is active) in the side area just before facing the ancients. A Ghostly Ghost sighting!
1609537208601.png

I took a deep breath and went to the Arreat Summit. I switched my normal helm for the one with teleport charges in order to separate them. Madawc got first billing. Emilio was pretty stout with Fade active, and he was all charged up for the fight with mana burn Madawc. I spammed spears and he went down in no time.
1609537214123.png

We tiptoed around a bit more, until stone skin Talic found us. With Crescent Moon’s Static Field and my spears hitting him, Talic lasted about 10 seconds. I’d given Emilio a single red potion at this point.
1609537221171.png

Last was stone skin Korlic, who almost completely ignored Emilio (maybe he couldn’t see him? Korlic IS pretty old, right?). He leapt over all my prisons, so that was a waste of time and just hindered Splat’s mobility, so he switched to bone spirit and got off as many shots as he could until Korlic jumped, and then he moved and did it all over again. It didn’t take very long, and Splat only drank one blue, making for a very anticlimactic Ancients fight. You can’t really get easier mods than mana burn and 2x stone skin though, unless you’re a zealot paladin or fury barb.
1609537258627.png

The Worldstone Keep was uneventful, as was the Throne of Destruction. Like Norcim’s fight, I found out quickly that Baal loves the Blood Mana curse. He also loved throwing appendages at me and cloning himself. He was crazy! This screenshot shows a recipe for futility.
1609537280333.png

Finally, Emilio got his Fade going and was able to withstand some of Baal’s attacks. I spammed health potions while spearing Baal. My Spirit is not maxed yet so Spear does more damage at less mana (blood) cost.
1609537304266.png

Baal’s drop. I always love a good bunch of rib(cracker)s. I actually had ribs for dinner last night. So tasty…
1609537316158.png

Here are some notable drops in Act V for Splat. Notice the amulet. It dropped in the Ancient's Way. I couldn't wear it right away because I needed the strength of the curio. It is really juicy but requires some strength item movement because Splat’s boots and Breast Plate both require 30 Strength and the Mahim Oak Curio provides +10 right there. I had 33 with the Curio on and wasn’t getting any with the Manald Heal ring, so if I want to equip that +3 skills amulet I had to find 7 strength. I had a rare +6 ring from Ormus, and two Sols dropped in the Cow level, so I used them to craft two blood rings.
1609537323958.png

This is the result of one of the crafts. I love it because it replaced a 11% cold resist ring, and although it didn’t give me much strength, it did give me just enough, and the 10% FCR, together with the 20% on the White RW, exactly hits a break point to fire spears faster. The life add is nice too. The +1 MPK is not necessary with over 1000 mana points.
1609537331422.png

So now I have a safety jewelry switch with the Manald Heal and Mahim Oak Curio giving me 40 more life, and I have an offense jewelry switch which provide an additional +3 skills.

I’ll provide a gear readout and an LCS readout with my next update. He’s already tested the waters in Hell by clearing the Blood Moor and Den of Evil (/P3, a rarity for me to go past /P1 in hell, especially with ~ 400 life).

Conqueror Splat, level 75 Bonemancer, Hell Cold Plains

Another update for Splat. He's been really speeding up lately, especially since turning down to /P3 in hell act I. His spears were tearing through the first few areas so fast that I kept typing in the players command, thinking I'd somehow defaulted to /P1 by accident. It's been pretty crazy. His gear for the start of hell was as follows:

Fiend Mask coronet, +1 Assassin skills, 19% resist all, +22 life
White Bone Wand, +2 bone spear and +2 clay golem as staffmods native to the wand itself
Brimstone Clutches heavy gloves, 16% CR, 10% LR
Venomous Amulet of Inner Sight (Mahim Oak Curio in stash for safety switch)
Rune Wing demon head, +1 Curses, +1 Lower Resist, +1 Bone Prison, +3 Confuse, +33 life, 19% resist all, Larzuk socketed and perfect topaz inserted for extra 40% LR
Blood Nails chain boots, 30% FRW, 19% CR, 25% FR
Smoke breast plate (in case you were wondering what I did with that Lum rune!)
Eagle Band ring, +6 Str, +5 Dex, 22% FR
Ghoul Eye ring, see it on a previous post, +1 str, +13 life, 10% FCR, 4& resist all, 12% CR
Brimstone Cord demonhide sash, 25% CR, 5% PR, 2 PDR, 1 MDR

Charms contributed to 17% FHR, 5% FRW, 67 mana, 83 life, 8 Str, 7% PR, 7% FR, 11% LR (16% before long but after the screenshot below), 18% CR, and +21 stamina. He just barely hit the break points for FCR and FHR that I was happy with, and his LCS looked like this at the start of hell act I.

His skills (hard points/total level cast at) at the start of act I were as follows:
Teeth 20/26
Bone Armor 1/10
Corpse Explosion 11/17 (8 yard radius)
Bone Wall 8/14
Bone Spear 20/30
Bone Prison 8/15
Bone Spirit 14/20 (future points going here until maxed and then split between wall/prison afterward)

Combat switch (the Eagle Band ring and the venomous amulet). I found a 11% LR small charm and replaced a 5% LR small charm with it so all my three main resists were maxed by the end of the Cold Plains for both sets of jewelry.
1609537755900.png

Safety switch (Manald Heal and Mahim Oak Curio)
1609537794324.png

Coldcrow I think. She was not a challenge due to the bone walls in her way. I got cocky because of these encounters for sure!
1609537807387.png

Blood Raven was rendered motionless and her friends were blown to smithereens nearby, quickly ending her pathetic life.
1609537816478.png

Emilio was unable to harm this character, but Bone Spear killed him in about 10 shots.
1609537823233.png

I was able to clog up the passageway here on the way to the Dark Wood sufficiently enough to block movement and hammer away with spears. It truly only took a few seconds to kill all the vile hunters here.
1609537831463.png

I made a slight mistake in summoning some bone walls or prisons (I can't remember and can't really tell!) right out of the gate in level 2 Underground Passage. Emilio went too far in and stirred up some sauce, so I backed up the stairs to gather him, and went back in and we were able to establish control.
1609537836743.png

Griswold smoked Emilio twice, once when he had his Fade activated. Emilio hits VERY hard but is a bit of a glass cannon so far. I still had the +18 strength Tiara on him, even though I had a Larzuk reward waiting to put an Amethyst in Tal Rasha's Horadric Crest to give him back his 10% LL. He still, despite almost 5,000 defense, gets hit often enough to kill him when he gets swarmed. But he could handle several regular monsters at once.
1609537843721.png

I decided to do The Hole before going to face the Countess and right in the door about five or ten steps this happened. If you see the position of Emilio's body you can see that he's closer to the champion archers (one Fanatic, one regular) than Splat, so I am not sure why they targeted Splat, but they did, and in the span of about 1/4 second, they both fired right at Splat. One arrow hit and knocked out his ~300 something hit point bone armor and the other arrow killed him. The other two monsters on screen were not bothering Splat and came up to see the show after our hero fell. I am not sure why it shows 282 life, Splat was sporting his combat jewelry switch and had 368 when killed.
1609537853732.png

Here are my drops in act I. He actually found some very useful stuff. I saw the Venomous head and thought about Larzuk socketing it, because if it gave two sockets, it would perform the same resists function as his current rare (imbued by Charsi, as Splat spent his two imbues on Necro heads and the one he wore was the winner) and provide an additional +3 all skills.
1609537870258.png

Alas it was not meant to be. At least I still have Sharon. I hate losing characters in tournaments, and this guy was a freight train but unfortunately too fragile. He was my only ever all-energy character (at least as far as I can recall) and it was certainly a breath of fresh air to do it this way.

RIP Splat, your name suited you well. Level 77, killed by a Fanatic Vile Archer arrow in the Hole

Too bad about the loss OldSoldier, he looked incredible powerful up to that point. Great gear and resistances.

For those wondering, Element the lightning sorceress is still making progress. Playing time is scarce so the little time I do have to play I try to clear at least one or two areas. She is currently in Act 3 normal.

OldSoldier said:
Hopefully Norcim can show everyone what an all-energy bonemancer guardian looks like before too long.

Norcim, in answer to your question about your future points in Teeth vs CE. I'd go teeth. My CE was at 11 hard points, and 17 total; it gave an 8 yard radius and was pretty effective (for the 1/3 an act that I wasn't at /P8 that is). I don't think you'd be getting that much radius with your CE until the very end of the game, if ever. If you try to stay at a higher players setting beyond P1 (which I'd recommend against for pure survivability reasons, given Splat's demise) the CE will not be very effective anyway.

I'll keep going with Sharon after a short break. I've been experimenting with a practice character I'd like to play in a tournament of my own. It has been several years since I've hosted one, so maybe I'll get one going once I have resolution on Sharon. I won't step on the truly Committed though, this tournament was/is fun!

Mago the Summoner Necro has advanced a bit more. Going is mostly faster than I had expected but today he was also reminded of how vulnerable he can be.

Fire Golem is now maxed. Look at the absurd mana cost:
MagoH10%20maxed%20FG_zpspvrvog76.jpg

Call the skill puny, but I think he does pack a decent punch against creatures vulnerable to fire (and it's not always Ajheed has a clear shot at the enemies).

Still lacking mobility and finesse, this is probably the only character with which I have battled Andariel right where she first meets you:
MagoH11%20Andi_zpsks106tq9.jpg

Tough start in Sewers:
MagoH12%20triple%20ench%20boss_zpsd8ygrnnv.jpg

I have only a few mages still, but this is the usual turning point in melee boss fights: when I raise my first Revive right in the thickest part of the battle.

Even with a full army, it was a tough start on one of the Halls of the Dead floors as well:
MagoH13%20tough%20HotD%20start_zpsh74sp0xv.jpg

Most of the army members have their priorities all wrong here; they're fighting some puny skeletons while the nasty mummy double boss pack is held at bay with only a few fragile units, and only that mage trio is doing any damage to them (and that's not much). But thanks to the doorway, this was still winnable. Took a long time, though.

(BTW, the golem is made from a Humongous axe I found.)

I suffered two NDEs today. The first was not so bad but it could certainly have ended Mago's life I had been a little less alert. We were fighting plenty of beetles out in the desert, including a CE + FE + Teleporting boss. Boss was a bit hurt and teleported away. We polished off a couple of minions and some other critters when the boss suddenly teleported right next to Mago and hit him twice before I understood what had happened. Mago has a decent amount of life but his resists are not good. Fire 35, Cold -10. I slammed down two purples and moved away as quickly as I could (which wasn't fast, being chilled and with no FRW), wary of the death nova because the boss was now the closest target for most of my mages and the merc. The boss detonated when I was just outside the range.

The second NDE was in the Maggot Lair. I got careless near the end of level 1. Was fighting a maggot in a small chamber. We came out of the middle branch of a 3-way junction. I moved in to try to drag a few mages into the chamber. Then I was surprised by running beetles. One hit me hard and another attacked one of my summons, blocking me from going back the way I came from. I was trapped now, with 3-4 of them chewing me down. Slammed the juvie buttons several times while casting a TP. Clicked on it like crazy, and:

Have to be more careful, I suppose...

All my main skills are maxed. I'm not really interested in pumping Iron Golem because I use Thorns from my bow instead if the IG's Thorns, and more defense slows down the returned damage output. Instead, I've invested the last two skill points in Summon Resist (2 %-units improvement) and Blood Golem (a small amount of extra life for the golems).

Recent Finds: Small Charm of Sustenace (14), which replaced a +10 life charm.

I'm on the lookout for a Demon Head or Heirophant Trophy to imbue. With my decent amount of DEX, the base blocking number actually matters.

Also, I'm very close to level 80. The session after I reach it, I will 3->1 cube around 200 rings.

Started my second Necro, and quite soon found out that their base STR/DEX situation sucks as far as item options go. As many characters in this tounrey, I will have to look for good gear to boost those values at least a bit to open up for more gear. For now, I settled for a 2s Spiked Club and Buckler of Blocking, with Superior Javelin on switch.

Blaise the Fire Rogue will do most of the killing in this act, with her 3s bow with chipped sapphire + 2x chipped topaz.

Current skills are Dim Vision 7 and everything else 1.

I've no inspiration for any in-character fluff now, but Ruby has completed Act 3. IIRC she's now at level 31. I've started using Venom and Shadow Master. Does anyone know of a bug where the SM just disappears? It has done so several times in situations where it couldn't possibly have died. I got a stairtrap in one of the six little side areas in Kurast, which was of no threat on Normal, but did remind me that I should watch out for this on higher difficulties. Also, several times, I fought in such a way that I knew I'd definitely die if playing like this on Hell, so I hope I'll shed some of my careless Softcore habits by then.

Venom is pretty cool and now provides about half of my damage; I've also gathered new strength charms, so I'm now in fact stashing quite a few due to lack of inventory space. I'm missing an Ort to be able to make an Ancients' Pledge shield, which would be cool. Also, I forgot to mention this, but my merc is currently using a Malice brandistock. I've been trying to gamble a decent pike from Jamella now that I got to Act 4, but I got nothing for a while and I don't want to spend all my money yet.

Turbo, I'd use the cube recipe to try to a savage polearm. I usually get an exceptional base item in just a few tries. Also, why are you considering Ancient's Pledge on a shield? Do you need the 50% enhanced defense for some reason? Or are you just short of P Diamonds at this point?

I guess the savage polearm recipe is a sensible idea.

I'm in Normal Act IV, I don't have a single perfect gem and only a few flawless ones altogether. Do tell me if my experience is unusual though, I'd be interested in whether I'm particularly unlucky. (In fact, diamonds appear to be my rarest gem right now! Maybe that savage polearm recipe has got to wait after all?) I already have a Ral and a Tal, and I figured that there is not much else I can do with shields, so I might as well get that one. It's not too expensive.

I always forget you can craft amulets and rings, thanks for reminding me OldSoldier! Bones stole Splat’s idea and crafted two blood rings. Ended up with a pretty decent one that also takes Bones back up to 30 FCR.

Bones decided to go with p3 in Act 1. We finished maxing Bone Wall with the Den skill point. Bones now commands 3700 life Walls and 3500 life Prisons. Needless to say, so far in Hell these have been completely indestructible. Bones rolled a white Great Bow he found in the Den in the cube and this time scored 4 sockets! Kyoko’s new toy:

Also used this time to upgrade Kyoko’s Boneflesh to a Templar Coat. I didn’t really need to do this but I have the spare runes and I’d never upped this unique before, so I thought it’d be cool as a novelty. Bones found his very first 4 socket crystal sword in the Stony Field. I feel like most of my other chars find bunches of these guys, but we have been checking every one that has dropped since NM.

I was a little worried about the Tower and the boss packs of ghosts that we might run into. These guys are scary because they move fast, hit hard, and are unaffected by walls/prisons. Fortunately, we didn’t run into anything that difficult down here.

Bones used his first imbue on a white unraveler head found in the Catacombs 4. Got a pretty decent set of mods, but Bones can’t make up for the resistance loss yet if we switch out the current shield. We will be keeping it around though just in case.

Andarial went down with no fuss. She came charging out early but stayed trapped in prisons the whole time. She hit Kyoko once with her poison breath but I just fed her some pots and she stayed alive. The drop had nothing to write home about.

Act 1 was really straight forward. We didn’t have any NDEs and nothing was all that troubling. Bones actually has 4 skill points saved up right now as I try to figure out what I want to do with them. Bone Spear is chugging along really well so far, so I'm thinking I might save them up for a bit and see what I need a bit later. I’ll sum up the journey with a few pics:

OldSoldier: Sorry to hear about Splat. Bones has 650 life and a 680 hit point Bone Armor and I’m still really nervous when playing him. We kill so quickly right now that it’s really easy to forget how fragile he actually is, so I can only imagine what playing Splat must have been like. Hopefully Sharon can get some vengeance for him!

I'm having a blast with Mago. Act II Hell was a lot of fun, more so than I expected from a totally 'indirect' character like this one. The act was also topped off by finding two incredibly rare grailers, even though one is useless (apart from selling it) and the other is quite likely not that useful either.

Here is the first :

The streak of high item quality finds in this fight is astonishing. Keep in mind I have 0 MF!

The entrance to Fangskin's lair was at the end of a hallway where I had just killed a whole bunch of mummies. I left unexplored parts of level 1 for later, now was the time to make use of a Revived army:
MagoH16%20Fangskin_zps3ghppezy.jpg

Things slowed down in the Arcane Sanctuary. Specters and Ghoul Lords were easy enough to burn but the goats were worse. It was rare that enough cold/lightning mages had clear shots at them. Usually, Thorns was needed to speed things up. Thorns does OK damage as long as the monsters are poisoned. One hit from a poison mage does the trick - their poison do minimal damage but the duration is really long, we're talking minutes here. Sometimes Mago has to do the poisoning. In this situation, there is a stupid fire mage getting in the way so my poison buddy is just a tiny bit too far away:
MagoH17%20bow%20needed_zps3in6xaec.jpg

BTW, I am suprised I can hit with the bow at all. Cth is about 50% according to the LCS.

Huge fight in the Canyon:
MagoH18%20Canyon%20fight_zpsmsoot0vn.jpg

Revived Ghoul Lords sure look cool, eh?

Kaa getting his due spanking:
MagoH19%20Kaa_zpsvtzpw8tp.jpg

I played the whole of AS, Canyon and six tombs (hadn't muled in the staff) in one setting.
Had one dangerous situation in the tombs. I did not see a pack of Apparitions just inside a doorway. They stunlocked me and I had to drink 5 full purples before I managed to break free.

And here is my second grailer. Now there are only four runes that have never dropped for me (and only three I have never seen).

Wow. That is the highest rune I've ever seen found in HC tournament. What are you're thoughts about its potential use? Unfortunately, most high end rune words require at least one other high end rune. Fury may be your best bet if you can get your hands on a Gul. Dream would be a good option as well but unfortunately it contains MF. Great progress by the way.
