Spirit Walker has killed Duriel Act 2 was fairly easy and was played at /p 8 (aside from maggot lair and duriel). I did not do full clears. The only difficulty came in the tombs where there was 4 hero unravellers. It took a while to clear because I couldn't keep them stunned with shcokwave. I found an eth 4 socket bec-de-crobin that was promptly turned into an insight to be carried by my new might mercenary.

It is a pity the score doesn't take into account wereform as I am currently at 2424 life as a werebear.

Spirit_walker has now completed both Act3 and Act4.

I played Act 3 at /players 1 to avoid getting too many levels before Act 4. No usable items dropped during Act 3 (and nothing worth personalising). I gained 2 levels during this act.

Act 4 was again fairly easy (no souls) and shockwave did its job of keeping mobs in place while my merc and bear did there work. I did the entire act at /players 8 (even Diablo by accident) and gained 5 levels. I put a total of 20 points into strength (to take me to base 65) and the other 5 went to vita. I don't think I am going to need any more strength for the rest of the game.

Spirit_walker has defeated baal and will henceforth be called conquerer spirit_walker :p.

Act 5 went well, rolled fairly easy monsters and only had to face souls in WSK level 2. Killing speed is starting to slow down at /players 8 and I think I might drop to /players 1 or 3 for hell. Shockwave is up to level 15 and stuns for 10 seconds, so basically anything that can be stunned is a cake walk (including ancients). Baal was a pain in the proverbial and kept teleporting / summoning clones - not looking forward to this battle in hell.

Personalisation was used on a gambled gloves with lightning / fire resists so now my character is wearing no ethereal items (all spirit / wraith). I socketed my shield and placed a perfect diamond in it and dropped to perfect rubies into my helmet. I am at 75/75/75/25 resists in hell and 3905 HP in werebear form.

I had a lot of time over the weekend and no internet, so I've not got three acts to update. SpiritedTool made it all the way through nightmare. There were a few tense moments, notably when she was surrounded by frenzytaurs in the Crystalline Passage, but a beltful of full rejuvies saved the day. I found absolutely no useable equipment. In fact the rare ethereal boots I was wearing broke, so now she's bootless as well. I personalized a Lore helm, and used the socketing quest to stick a perfect skull into my merc's rare helm. Not very exciting.

Spirit_walker has now finished acts 1,2 and 3 of Hell. I played these acts fairly quickly and without full clears. EDit here is the not so quick summary, but first a question.

Questions
I am starting to have problems with physical immunes and was wondering if anyone had any experience dealing with them with this type of character. My current plan of attack is to either stun and run, or stun them and equip my merc with a chance to cast amp javelin (then switching back to insight). Does anyone have any better ideas?


Act 1
Act 1 started well, I played through fairly fast just following paths and collecting way points. My first concern came in the Dark Wood. Treehead was physical immune so I stunned him, grabbed the scroll and left him be.
The first time I ran the tower everything went well, I only met up with a couple of the PI ghosts, so I parked them. The countess rewarded my hard work with a Lem (number two, I got a lem from the forge in nm). I used the lem to make a treachery in an eth armour for my Merc. The second time I ran the countess I had more difficulty; there was a boss group of PI ghosts on level 5. It took a good 10 minutes for my merc to kill them and my reward was a solitary Tal. I decided to cut my losses and move on (rune drops had been fairly good anyway).
I proceeded from here to the pit and this is where my only NDE occurred. I was taking on a group of 2 boss archers (fanatic, cursed, extra strong). I foolishly decided to take the entire group on at once and they ripped through my merc, bear and left me at ~ ¼ hp. I tped out and then sensibly decided to lure them one at a time using the bear. The rest of the act was fairly easy and before I knew it I was on to Act 2.

Act 2
Act 2 started of in a similar manner to Act 1, the going was easy and fairly fast. Unravellers continued to be an annoyance, but no more then that. Maggot lair is significantly easy as a druid summoner then as a necro summoner as I can reposition my bear wherever I want. I found an eth 4os thresher in AT so made a new insight for my merc (got a really good role too!). Claw viper temple was fun, stunned snakes can’t charge :). Then there was arcane sanctuary and PI ghosts …. I ended up stunning and running through most of it. The tomb was fairly easy as I found the orifice in the first direction I took. The grizzly tanked duriel while the merc killed him and it was on to Act 3.

Act3
I had a very long thin map for the Jungles which meant that I ended up clearing most of it. I faced gloams in the great marsh, but they didn’t do much to my ~4200 hp and 75% LR. No real issues until I went into the Flayer dungeon. Here I met dolls for the first time, which wasn’t too bad as long as I was alert. I essentially played leapfrog, casting the grizzly as far in front as I could, walking to where he was and then repeating. I faced dolls again in the sewers, but they didn’t cause many problems here. The lost temple was fine as it was almost empty (I only did the one temple). Travincal was painful, but the grizzly did a fine job of soaking up damage while merc disposed of council members. The durance was remarkably easy as I didn’t encounter any dolls. Mephisto spent his whole time bashing on the grizzly while the merc poked him to death and it was on to Act 4.

Spirit_Zon has gotten to NM and feels pretty good about that. Her Valk is just about maxed out (Level 18), but she is spending her points on Freezing Arrow now. It is amazing that she has never had any mana problems, but is now continually low on mana. Those arrows take mana and she has not put any points into Energy!

Here is the bow that she personalized in Act 5:

After personalizing the bow, Spirit_Zon was having second thoughts. Her Stealth ethereal chain mail was about ready to wear out. Maybe she should have personalized some real nice armor. Instead, she decided to gamble quilted armor in the hope of finding Ghost armor. Would you believe that this is what she got on her first attempt:

That fire resistance comes from the RAL rune put into the socket that Larzuk provided. Resistance is a problem in NM, so this does help a bit.

Now Spirit_Zon is hoping to find or gamble some usable gloves and boots with resistances on them. She has a fine set of gloves that could be personalized in NM Act 5, but hopefully she will find something better before then. Since she is no longer using a melee weapon, her armor should last a bit longer, so a good ethereal pair of gloves or boots would be fine.

SpiritedTool met her inglorious end on her way to visit the Countess. She accidentally teleported into a unique pack of ghosts and couldn't drink the purples fast enough. She was quite frail and almost died several times, so it was only a matter of time. She wasn't ever going to catch Jcakes anyway. I'm not sure what to try next. Here's her final score, naked and dead.

The reign of terror is over Diablo has fallen to the combined might of Spirit_walkers (might) merc and his grizzly.
Act IV did not pose any problems other then the boredom of chasing down the spawning creatures. I faced gloams in the plains of despair, but like there cousins in the jungle they did not cause to much trouble (4200hp, 75lr and a 10 second stun do that). Izual spawned in a relatively clear area so taking care of him was not too bad.

The river of fire had vile mothers, finger mages, OKs and megademons, the only real concern was the OKs as they were hard to stun. Hephaestos spawned with fairly tame mods and was kept in stun lock in any case. The forge netted me an Um rune which is nice.

The cs is fairly straight forward for a shockbear, most of the monsters come at you in fairly narrow packs making stunning fairly easy (atleast compared to the open spaces of the plains). Grand Vizier spawned PI, but that wasn't too bad as the amp from my merc broke his resistance fairly quickly (and his buddies were kept in stun lock).

Diablo was his usual pain, but pots and the fact that I was targeted preferentially allowed my merc to outlast the big D.

Spirit_Zon has defeated Andariel in NM. Still playing on P8 with no trouble at all. She seldom takes a healing potion, but mana is downed continuously to support those Freezing Arrows.

The Charsi embue was done with an ethereal plated belt. I had hoped that it would have some good resistances. Durability is not an issue because Spirit_Zon does not take damage at all. So what did I get? This:

Well I decided to push SpiritWalker through act 5 today and boy it was tough.

The first couple of areas were ok as I didn't roll any Physical immunes. I basically ran through them killing any champ packs I ran across.
The crystaline passage was ok as well. I entered the frozen river and was set upon by gloams and succubi (the non PI types). SpiritWalker can handle quite a few hits from the gloams, but his merc struggled. I had to take the river fairly slowly and tank most of the damage, but anya was saved. Pindleskin proved no match to shockwave and it was on to nihlathuk.

In nihlathuks temple I got snakes, these guys were an absolute PitA. I ended up leaving my merc dead and just clearing with grizzly. Nihla himself was not too bad, corpse explosion does not do too much damage when you are rocking 4.5k hp and 75%fr (plus I had a carrion vine).

Ancients were their usual nasty self (even though I could keep them stunned most of the time). I fed my merc 4 juves and ~ 8 super healing potions to defeat them and get my reward.

WSK2 was were I really hit a wall, gloams plus snakes really did a number on the merc. I ended up feeding him more juves in this one level then the rest of the game combined.

Throne of destruction had Oks, succubi and snakes. Not too hard to handle as they are all fairly easy to stun. The only wave that really caused problems was the council as the hydras just eat my merc. I ended up killing them with just a grizzly. Lister was nice and decided to remain stunned the whole time and then it was time for Baal.

The baal fight was not particularly hard it was just annoying and time consuming. everytime he teleported I had to re position the merc and the grizzly so that they were on opposite sides. I also kept casting poison creepers in an attempt to stop him healing. Eventually baal fell and the result was typical.

level 82*-5 = -410

Final score 1144 (I think i made a mistake on my hp in the last calculation)

I would be interested in seeing your equipment. That is one of the big disadvantages of the tournament rules and it would be interesting to see if you had good fortune in finding usable equipment, or you simply did not need good stuff with your Druid. Also, what sort of strength did you end up with, and was that an issue with the Druid?

As far as beating your score is concerned, I doubt anyone will, but considering that my Barbarian was close and did not even make it through NM, it could be that a Barbarian would have a chance due to his ability to acquire high HP counts.

Again, congratulations. You have set the bar very high indeed!:yes:

Spirit_Zon is still breezing along with her Valk. P8 is no sweat. The Valk is maxed out and kills everything that she encounters. The cold bowyer merc has been traded in for an Act 3 Cold spell caster. He partners with Spirit-Zon to keep freezing the opponents, but the two of them do not do all that much damage. Spirit_Zon has some gloves and a circlet to consider for personalization, but another good bow would be tempting.

Duriel is dead and they are taking a few minutes to relax on the Kurast Docks.

As for strength, I ended up with 65 base. I probably could / should have left it at 43 as I didn't have any strength requirements. Everything else went into vitality. I think a barb might be the best character to get an awesome score, but it would be very difficult. I might try it :).

One of the big advantages that druids have is spirit masks. I found 2 white (imbued in both nm and normal) and 3 or so rare ones. The main thing to do is to sell everything and gamble like crazy.

JCakes: That amulet is beautiful. It gives me hope in my gambling sprees. I have been trying to gamble "Worded" items and have had some luck, but rings and amulets are probably the best chance of success. Since I made a prismatic amulet, I guess I will stick to rings (but if I thought I would get an amulet like the one you gambled, I would keep trying).

I hope you try another character. Maybe a singing Barb would work. I couldn't get my melee barb past the ancients in NM, but I am not very experienced with characters like that so it probably was mostly my own fault.

I think for normal you want to gamble gloves / belts / boots, but once you get to nm/hell your best bet is probably ammy / rings / circlets.

I was thinking of entering with a singing barb, I think it is the safest barb to complete this tournament and has the most potential for a high score.

I however want a break from single pass and I will play some of my other projects that I have on the go.
