1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

I doubt blizz is safer than orb but yeah I'd recommend something like 20 static 20 blizz 5 cold mastery 1+ tele 1+ energy shield at the core of the build and the rest in some back up attack. Static, chain lightning, nova, firewall, orb, blizzard are I hear all viable damaging skills, don't know about hydra or fireball, etc.

I think es is something every 1.07 sorc should use. It lets you put points in energy for better energy regen, makes the best use of the rejuv bug as both mana and health goes down at the same time, effectively increases your max health considerably which helps prevent getting 1 hitted by hell meph, and if you have a 50% ES and wear nightsmoke then you'll basically take half damage with no downside. ES doesn't mean you can basically forget about res unlike in 1.11 though.
Wait - you're saying, ES works differently in 1.07? How could I've missed that! Is the order damage/absorb/ES etc. takes place different from 1.11? If yes, do you know what the order is? Depending on the mechanism, one might want not to invest too heavily in vitality...

And why only 5 points in CM? It somehow stuck in my mind (from the 1.07 guide) to max CM because it can pierce cold immunes?

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Thanks for the tips. How about the blocking formula, is it same for 1.07 than it is for 1.11?

edit: Or should I even consider going for max block (I'm playing HC). I'm only going to do rackrunning and a little bit of mf too (maybe meph?).

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

I didn't bother to max CM because it has really bad diminishing returns and will actually pierce most CIs decently at as little as 30% (you do want more than that). I don't think it does anything to an enemy with no cold resistance either. If you don't want a secondary element which is definitely an option in 1.07 you could certainly max it but it won't make a huge difference.

Blocking seems to be the same, I think I need a bit over 210 dex to max block on my zon's sigon shield (69%). I don't think I'd go for max block on a sorc because you won't have access to the charms you probably normally have so in 1.11 so points in vita/energy will make up a greater proportion of your health than usual. With the full rejuvs it's more important ensuring as little as possible can 1 hit you than minimising potion use though, better to lose 75% all the time than 100% 1/4 of the time. Playing 1.07 HC is VERY dangerous - MSLEs, the real uber meph and baal and more damaging unique enemies in general. I went for max block on my zon because I need high dex for matriarchal javs (you need javs with a high qlvl to get a decent chance of a craft) and I use a bow on switch.

I'm not sure exactly how damage order applies in 1.07 I think RTB posted in on it earlier though. Pretty sure % dr and ES comes before integer dr and DTM comes before ES.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Small heads up: Charsi sells a LOT of Kite/Tower shields. They're not even expensive. I shopped myself a chromatic (28%) tower shield of the gargantuan (48 life) and a chromatic (29%) tower shield of the colossus (38 life). Gonna start an amazon soon, and I'm going to try and get 3 sox on the first one, if that fails, try for 3sox on the second.

Shopping Larzuk, I've seen a few cruels. But they were all normal items, not excep or elite. I'm just lvl 81 though, so might not be high enough for cruel elites.

Nice shopping on the shields - the chance to get lots of sockets in 1.07 can make for some quite uber items. Larzuk can sell cruel elites at level 81 (I picked up a cruel zerker at level 80). The problem is that the odds of a weapon being upgraded to elite and getting the cruel prefix are a little on the low side. I'm going to keep trying though. I really want a cruel zerker/champion axe/giant thresher/phase blade of quickness with four sockets.

As with the shields though - you can pick up some nice armor and normal weapons whilst looking for the rare upgraded cruel elite though, a Shocking xxx of storms with 4 sockets would be quite cool.

I did post a little while ago about shopping a 29x% cruel war scythe of quickness from Larzuk - I just saw it and said - if only blizz make a magic upgrade recipe in 1.12.....

If only blizz made a 1.12 patch at all...

Well, Merope is now sitting in the NM Pandaemonium Fortress at almost level37 and is wondering, if she'll survive Diablo. But with maxed Fire and Lightning resistance and 500+ life I hope she'll manage.

Another question about aiming with FO: In 1.10+ you should aim the Orb directly on the target, so that it explodes on the target for max damage. In 1.07 however I know that you have to aim it not at the monster but next to it. The question is: Where next to it? Like that it almost touches the monster or a bit more to the side? I mean: if you take the line player-monster as one side of the angle and the cruising course of FO as the other - what would be the best angle?
From what I've tried out it seems to be that the smaller the angle, the higher the damage - but I'm not entirely sure...

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

The orb should be aimed so that it does not pass through any monsters. If it does, the animation will continue showing, but the shards won't do any damage or have any slowing effect. The best aimed orbs "explode" right besides or in front of their targets. So you may be right in that "the smaller the angle the greater the damage", but to me it seems like that would only be correct if the monster is in "1.10 orb range" if you get what I mean by that.

Surviving act bosses is plain easy when you have energy shield. Static them, then orb them. And remember: Diablo's most damaging attacks are negated by a fairly small amount of MDR.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

I've have just started 1.07 aswell. I know there's a lot of info regarding builds but I think I'll ask some questions here anyhow;

1. I've started a forb/SF sorc for MFing that's a good idea I guess. How should I distibute my stat points?

2. To get crafting supplies (gems and runes) - what is the easiest way? Hell Cows?
If yes, is forb/SF good for cows or should I make a LFzon for that purpose?

3. What char is fastest and most accurate (getting stable rack-drops)? Sorc or Ama?

Thanks!

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

1 - Str and dex for gear, then vit and energy, with energy as pri 1. You're aiming for ES anyway, so it's not really bad to have a little low life.

2 - LK runs. Pop the chests while you're racking.

3 - Sorcs can tele, amas can summon decoy, which rerolls racks. It's a matter of play style, I recommend trying out both.

So, do I need Dex at all if I don't go for blocking? Or should I go for blocking? Ah, it's such a long time I played (1.07)1.08 - can't remember a thing when it comes to builds...
My idea was, that I'd rather teleport fast and don't get block locked at all...also, this will grant me more hitpoints to survive those one-hit killers, I hope...

EDIT: Oh, about the ES: I guess one should max it?

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

About the ES - IMHO there is no need to max it - just get to (IIRC) 16 after +skills as that is where the diminishing returns really kick in. Also, ES isn't absolutely required in 1.07 (although it would make things easier). With a standard Static/Orb build though you will have some points to spare and unless you are going for a varient, ES is a very good safe option.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Just found a perfect shimmering large charm!

I took the advice I got here and pushed through to hell LK before starting to rack run. I abandoned my crappy hammerdin and made a standard orb/SF sorceress, and I got to LK a few days ago. Haven't racked anything yet but a few sweet charms keeps me happy. And a +3 cold skills 17 DR coronet she will enjoy when I try to mat her.

If you get the orb to explode behind them, it will effectively throw more shards at the target(s). Between a 30 and 45 degree angle of fire works wonders. You can orb then static-static while the timer is counting down for orb with minimal FCR.

Running LK then Hell Council is great for the FOrb/Static sorc looking for sets and gems. A goodly amount of map seeds also have racks close to the LK/Kurast Bazaar connection, so it can be profitable to run your racks, then run the superchests + close poppables in a pattern that takes you to the KB entrance, then rack there. Depending on the Sewer setup, you may get a gold chest near a KB entrance. TP back, sell/stash your stuff, then run Travincal for the Council. Have a LR wand on switch, as half the Council is LI. 375% MF does the trick, and you don't need great FR/LR since you will likely be teleporting around to position the merc to get optimal MF kills.

I haven't got a lot of jewels with this, but most of my crafting jewels (aka junk) come from questing with MF through Normal & NM. Decent number of runes for crafting, namely Tir & Shae. Lots of gems and +skills class-specific items, though--good for selling if I don't need another +2 Paladin skills/+3 Fist of the Heavens holy scepter (yeah, I was pretty happy about this one).

I'm found City of the Damned and River of Flame to provide good crafting stuff (gems + runes) as well, and you don't need MF for those goodies, so you can run it fast. You'll want to run it fast because these monsters are stingy with their drops. The layouts of the areas favor ranged characters.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

It seems to be that more players in a game doesn't increase item droprate, only experience gain?

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Just one thought on higher player settings since there's no players X command: You could play MP when you only upgrade to 1.07 and play with a modified dll file or fast user switching though...could you?

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Yes, modified .dll works finely. More characters in game really doesn't seem to increase item droprate, only experience.

Yes, you certainly can do this, as yiuman does. But then you aren't really playing LoD 1.07 any more, you're using a mod (an outside program) to artificially increase your experience.

As he has mentioned, Yiuman plays the game in the manner he enjoys most, and for him that means playing a mod. He doesn't trade or MP, so nobody else is affected. But for those of you who are thinking of bringing 1.07 items forward into later versions and who hope to trade or MP (in 1.07 or whichever version) using those items or characters that have benefited from them, you need to be aware that using the .dll or fast user switching to pump up your experience is NOT acceptable.

I'm not picking on anyone, or trying to influence your decision. But make an informed choice since it might affect your future in the community.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

I can understand this, Disco-neck, and first of all let me say that I neither run a modified 1.07 dll file nor do fast user switching...

...but (here it comes:wink3:), why is fast user switching (which doesn't require an outside program - unless you consider Windows an outside program :wink3:) considered kind of "illegal" regarding trade/MP status whereas in 1.09+ it isn't? There are some people who do this for HF rushing for example (and post this fact in their trade profile, I admit - but that doesn't exclude them from trading). The same with modded dll files in later versions - there are people who use them and trade/MP?
So why not in 1.07? Just curious, don't want to start a fight or something

Oh, it just came to my mind: So if someone had 2, 3 or more PCs and would start a TCP/IP game, that wouldn't be allowed either I guess?
