1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Right--I was running her for uniques, but I'm out of MF gear until I find a 4os armor that I can plup ful of PTopaz that doesn't have the clvl req of 47 that my current gothic armor does. By then, I may as well just run council/Meph, as 500+ Andy runs for a SoJ drop is a little beyond my patience.

Speaking of which, what sets do you all use in 1.07, outside of IK and Sigon's? I want to eventually complete most of the sets and try them out on characters built to take advantage of them in Hell. I know that Cormallon has a Set Sept, and that sounds pretty cool to me.

There is very little point running NM Andy for uniques as its impossible to get enough MF to force all uniques from her. You'd be much better off pushing onto Hell Andy with 556%MF.

In regards to sets, my Frenzy barb uses the full Sazabi set with Lightsabre as the other weapon. It's pretty cool - gotta love damage to demons. I think it would also be good on a pally. Tal's set is often used - not just on sorcs - it gives a lot of MF (15% on the belt, 88%(112% with a PTopaz) on the armor and 65% partial bonus for three pieces). Hwaines would be nice on a polearm barb/druid. A possiblilty might be Naj's set for a staff barb (props for the rarity) as in 1.07 it has IAS instead of teleport charges, although finding the staff would be a bit of an issue.

Other cool set pieces are Guilarms face (Winged Helm with crushing blow), Laying of Hands (Bramble Mitts with 350%ED to demons and 50% fire absorb) and Griswald's shield (Vortez shield with random pally automods). Trang Ouls belt is pretty useful as a source of CBF as well Of course the angelic jewelery is always good for any character that needs AR. Nats, Aldurs and Sanders boots are all useful for the 40%FR/W etc etc.

Ahh, the joys of 1.07...

finally decided to give it a try and got instantly killed by Rakanishu - well, I swiftly created a new character and was being even more cautious than in 1.11 HC. Pushed my Sorceress to Act V Crystalline Passage. Levelling is going soooo slow though :undecided:

Anyways - I've got a question: Is it possible to rack ethereal elite weapons in a serious amount of time? I know, it's cheesy to use them in later versions - but hey, it's premium cheese:grin:
And since I'm already on the topic: I guess I shouldn't try to find a superior ethereal elite item with the needed number of sockets, right? Like a 4os superior ethereal glorious axe for instance? Would be way too "uncommon", I guess:laugh:

Excellent.... another 1.07 convert. Come for the items, stay for the challenge says I. Welcome.

As to your questions - it depends on how much time you consider 'serious'. As you only need to get to Hell LK to get pretty much all the elite items you would want I'd say a couple of serious playing sessions to get there (it took me about a week playing a couple of hours each day). It can take less if you play SC and just rush though, but your post seems to indicate that you are a HC player, more if you want to take your time and get levels (its not uncommon for people to pat/mat in their 60s, as you mentioned - leveling is slow). Then getting those eth elite items is down to your luck/skill with rack running and can take as long as a piece of string.

As to getting superior elite items with the right number of sockets - that indeed can be time consuming. Getting non-superior eth items is 'fairly' straightforward though. But seriously though, if you are using 1.07 eth items, that extra 15% doesn't make a huge difference - its nice to have, but not worth the extra racking time IMHO.

May all your racks drop well.

Thanks for the quick answers, yiuman!

Well, I might stay for the challenge as soon as my time allows :)
I'll see if I manage to get to NM today - might level my char a bit first. Any ideas what area is best for levelling at level 24? From what I found out so far it might be the City of the Damned.

Well, anyways, gotta go now. Thanks for your welcome and your help!

City of the Damned and the river of flame (if you can handle it) would be my recommendation until you hit 25. Then it is Act V all the way. The Ancients should push you up to 30 (or pretty damn close to it) and then life gets much easier (I'm guessing that you are making a FOrb sorc).

On a different note, I finally managed to rack some War Travs and the very next rack I found was a lacquered plate rack  I'm now one and a half steps closer to getting that magic number 556.

Yeah, I'm going to make the good ol' FO/Static sorceress :)
I should max CM, I suppose, since it pierces Immunities? Or is it capped somehow?

Congrats on the War Traveler and GL for your Tal's:thumbsup:

btw, funny thing to note: One should be able to rack a Gibdinn and a weapon called decoy dagger - both with a rarity of 99 and thus a chance of 1/95 to make it on the possible drop list  Anyone ever encountered such a weapon or does a rarity of 99 mean it's not findable at all?

Oh, and Glorious Axe has a rarity of 4 - only 50% chance to make it on the list in LK...*sigh*

But first I need to get to Hell - almost level 25 now...

There is some debate on whether to max CM or put those points in teleport/warmth. Personally I'd max it (there is no cap but diminishing returns) as you can shop rejuv potions but other people disagree.

Out of interest - why in particular a glorious axe? It seems to me that for most runewords you'd either want the faster champion/feral axe or the more damaging decapitator?

Maybe I'll save a few skill points and try it out - but I think I'll go max CM.

For style points:grin:
Just kidding -although... - I did some calculations for a planned kingslayer sorceress, and it seems that till an extra 20% IAS Silver-edged and Feral Axe do more damage, but once you throw in another 20% (e.g. Treachery), Glorious Axe and Decapitator outdo the others.
But yeah, you're right - Decapitators are more damaging than Glorious Axes - although it sums up to only 1.85% more damage. I'm still undecided...for after all Glorious Axes require less strength and have a range of 4 instead of 3 (not so important for PvM, I know).
So it looks like this might be a decision based on style after al

But since racks in LK will hold more often a Decapitator (rarity 1), I might go for that one.

If I wouldn't play HC, I might even consieder reaching the 9-frame rate with a Decapitator/Glorious Axe through an additional 144% IAS...damn it, I wish I had some "Faith" :wink3:

I wonder how many of these I'll get before a Grandpa drops. Interestingly, when I equipped the BK set to see how my barb would look with them, the bonuses didn't show (although they did make a difference to the LCS and skill trees). Anyone know if they are actually applied in 1.07?

The boni are +20 fire dmg, +200 ar, +25 defense, +200% dmg to undead, +200% dmg to demons and finally +2 to all skills.

So they are applied even if they aren't shown? That is good to know. On a related note, a random rack dropped a green laquered plate for me. How chuffed am I!

They obviously aren't shown, but what I just listed are the properties in the .txt files. Somone would have to test if they do in fact work.

A note/question about mlvls in 1.07. The list available in the stats forums notes that NM WSK mlvl is in the low-to-mid 60s. I pushed my MF sorc through there at 58, but I'm back running it for exp at 69 and making more exp--like 10k per Returned kill in WSK 1 over the 6k I was making when I was questing. It seems like the mlvl is cranked way up over the stats shown, I'm guessing around 5 mlvls higher. Anybody have more concrete info?

Thought to try something different so I started playing this weekend and slowly made my way up to NM Act 2 @ lv 36.

I find that a lot of sets are dropping. Also for some reason cornets in NM but nothing good yet. I read that charms, jewels and gems drop less frequently than 1.10+ but I can't tell the difference.

I'm disappointed with FO as it's doing less damage than I expected. Either less shards are discharged. Or if the main ball going going through a monster negates any damage to additional mosters thereafter. Of course static is too good.

Seems like merc get stunned more and longer. Most LE bosses demolish him. Encountering the first MSLE should be a hoot.

Only 2 uniques found:

Check out a Barb merc for your sorc. They do a better job of keeping monsters away than A2 mercs and heal very quickly--to the point where a teleport away to the edge of the screen gives them time to heal at least half their bar before they run back into the fray. The stun/bash is also quite useful. If you find Woestave or Kelpie Snare, A2 can be better, but I really like the A5 mercs for keeping disatance.

Orb ins't synergized, so up your Cold Mastery and spam Static while the orb flies. You should be able to kill just about anything in NM easily w/Static20/Orb20/CM8+.

Find some crushing blow for your merc and it should go a lot faster.

Hell difficulty is a whole nother matter. I'll defer to people who have made Mat/Pat in 1.07 for that advice.

Speaking of which, who all has made Mat/Pat in 1.07 with a melee character?

Aim your orbs to the sides of monsters/groups. You don't want to hit them with the main ball like you do in 1.11. If you do that it wont do any damage.

Takes a little while to get used to aiming somewhere different but not too hard.

Once you get a few levels in orb and a couple of poinst in CM and your aiming down you should fly through NM and hell isn't too challengting either. Just need to be persistent.

I do have a Barb merc, and his regeneration powers seem to have kicked in at around 30-35. Equipment is hard to comeby, he's stuck with a crafted safety esponon. I guess I should look for armour that have more resistance instead of defence.

Luckily, I tried different things for FO and noticed FO did well when targets were out of range. But now I know not to namelock things. Too bad it sucks up mana like crazy, 220 is always not enough.

Haha! Lucky find from a stash in the Flayer Jungle:

Peasant Crown

I forgot about the Rejuv trick, thanks for reminding me!
