1.07 News, Info and Gossip

I'm using an older version of BVS before Bliss started randomly changing lots of things.

This is basically the reason I don’t have a version of BVS in the stickies.

I play old versions on Windows 2000 virtual machines. Runs better and each one is completely separate. Of course if you don’t have 1.00 discs this is still a problem....

I wish he nailed down an SPF finalized version (and left that in a folder somewhere on github for us) before changing things. I understand it's his project to do with as he pleases but he did have something that worked well and was convenient.

I believe mine is version 1.6.2

I installed from CD. From what I've heard, if you install from Battle.net, you're out of luck if you want to play anything pre-1.12, because it simply won't work. At least @Smittyphi had issues with that a little while ago and couldn't get it to work. ...

This is right. The 1.14 Digital Download-Installer breaks the former known data-structure of
the Diablo folder. The only solution is to install from CD "OR" with the 1.12 Digital Download-
Installer (it is not on the Blizzard Servers anymore, I guess).
But it was included on the Diablo III-Collectors Edition USB-Stick for example. So if someone
owns this stick he maybe is allowed to give it to other forum users? I have the 1.12 Installer
and will ask the moderators if I am able to provide a download link.

What is the optimal level to cube prismatic Angelic amulet?

Qlvl of the Angelic set is 17. Formula of the recipe is ilvl=0.66*clvl. Thus the optimal level should be 26 (26*0.66=17.16).

But, the Addendum quide states that the ilvl for set/unique jewelry should be 1 higher than the qlvl. Also, I do not know how do roundings work precisely. I would not like adding to the pool Vidalas amulet, which is at qlvl 19.

Thanks.

EDIT: Nvm, I figured out the roundings, they are always down. The desired level should thus be 28, for ilvl 18 to cover the odd +1 requirement.

But surely you won’t get the partial bonus if you forward it anyway?

My Tal’s plate in 1.10a has no partial bonus.

I thought only the expansion sets (ie tals, gris, etc.) were bugged in that way. I may have been corrected on this in the past and forgot, never tested it (if someone has a cathans or something it should be easy to test)

I don't think it's a bug. The expansion set pieces simply didn't have their individual item bonuses yet in 1.07. So they won't get them added when forwarded, either. Note that this is only for the item bonuses like the +10% FCR for the Tal's armor and amulet, not the partial set bonuses like +65% MF when wearing 3 pieces. You get those in 1.07 already and will get them when forwarded. The normal sets already had all their bonuses, so you get them when forwarded, too.

Classic sets do get item specific (green text) partial set boni in 1.07, but the expansion sets do not...they do get the global partial set boni, just not the item specific ones, and they do count for unlocking the item specific boni on other items from the set from newer patches when forwarded... Note that pretty much only the class-specific expansion sets (Aldur's, Griswold's, IK, Mavina's, Tal Rasha's, and Trang Oul's, apparently Nat's was considered strong enuff) got item specific (green text) boni added later...

Edit: Doh! Ninja'd by @LongingForDeath

@Delsy, @GalaXyHaXz posted a very nice table for cubing set/unique jewelry in 1.07/1.08 here (its under the spoiler)

@LongingForDeath I was on vacation when you posted your Zon's equipment...looks very good, but Mav's belt is the only FRW, you'll want more...tower shield is heavy, which also slows you down a good bit, if you're willing to go with less blocking, a chromatic kite shield is easy to shop from Charsi...alternatively, Moser's or a nice crafted Luna can work VERY well. As nice as Saracen's is on this character, you might wanna go Cat's Eye or Highlord's to get more FRW. Charms can help, too, especially if they also have rez/AR/mana... don't bother using +min/max damage charms, they won't work with bow or thrown javs (they do work with jab/CS though, and your crafted javs will do well for that as well)

@WoRG Well, you're the one who suggested Saracen's over Cat's Eye :). Haven't found Cat's Eye or Hihglord's yet, unfortunately. But I've actually been thinking about changing Saracen's, since the CtC Amp triggers frequently, but often gets overwritten by the Hit Causes Monsters To Flee from Rattlecage. I'm even considering changing that one in favor of Skullder's to get some more blue items, especially since Barb helmets seem to drop very frequently in the cow level. But that would probably slow me down too much, since I'd be reducing my Crushing Blow from 100% to 75% then. HCMTF definitely adds quite a bit of safety, as well, though it is kinda annoying when single cows turn around and walk off-screen. Changing the shield is definitely an option, though. I went with Tower Shield for the increased chance to block, but I don't have high block, anyway. Also no luck on Moser's yet.

I have actually switched from my crafted Javelins to some plain Ceremonial Javelins with +2 Javelin skills, since the crafted ones are very expensive to repair. LF still clears large herds with 1-2 throws even with the plain javelins. But I'm playing her more like a hybrid now with the bow as my main weapon. I tend to herd a few groups together, throw a javelin or two to kill 80+% of the cows, then take the rest out with Multiple Shot or Guided Arrow if it's just a single cow.

I could still go up one IAS breakpoint with a Jewel of Fervor, which I don't have. Cat's Eye would also take care of that, but don't have that one, either. I will swap out some charms to get some more FRW. My current ones are mostly +life and resists. I haven't found mana to be an issue yet, due to MPK ring and 15% mana leech from M'avina's belt. But I've been hesitant to put more than 10 points into Multiple Shot, due to the increased mana costs per shot. Considering how much I use it, though, I should probably max it. Especially since I already have so many unused skill points left. Some sort of poison damage would be nice, too, to stop the cow's health regen. Unfortunate, that there are no elemental damage charms.

I got her close to level 88 now, by the way. The Barbarian who's leeching XP in those cow runs is about halfway to 88.

@WoRG may I ask you, what was your Barb's setup for the Travi round this RFL?

I'm in the process of tuning my own right now, and wouldn't mind seeing what did you come up with.

Yep, never did get it working. I've stepped away from D2 for the moment as my computer keeps crashing and I keep losing my progress so i've lost interest in getting it to work currently. Hoping to upgrade my computer early next year

@Grape sure... I fiddled things around a bit while running, this is what I ended up with

Berserker's Lion Helm of the Whale (+2 Barb, 100 Life, +3WW, +3FI) 3sox 3xPtopaz
Skullder's (Ptopaz)
Crafted Blood Ammy (+3 Warcries, 18Str, 14%ML, +22 Life, 80GF, 1%FRW:rolleyes:)
Greater Blood Gloves (15%CB, 20IAS, 25MF, 78GF, 6%LL, 22 Life)
String of Ears
War Travellers
Crafted Blood Ring (14Str, 30%LL, 25MF, Replenish Life 6, Half Freeze Duration)
Stone of Jordan
2x Crainte Vomir on switch for traveling
Wizardspike (Ist) offhand
Greater Safety Colossus Blade primary
Code:
Death Barb
Colossus Blade
'PulEthPul'
One-Hand Damage: 59 to 201
Two-Hand Damage: 63 to 399
Durability: 50 of 50
Required Dexterity: 65
Required Strength: 188
Required Level: 76
Sword Class - Very Fast Attack Speed
Item Version: Expansion
Item Level: 63
Fingerprint: 0xb880df29
+273% Enhanced Damage
Damage Reduced by 10
Magic Damage Reduced by 10
40% Increased Attack Speed
-25% Target Defense
447% Damage to Demons
+522 to Attack Rating against Demons
+3 to Warcry Skills (Barbarian Only)
Socketed (3: 3 used)

Merc was a fire rogue, with gear focused on IAS and a fast CtC Amp bow
Valkyrie Wing (Fervor jewel)
Tal's Armor (27%Poison Res Fervor jewel)
Greater Safety Great Bow (268%ED, 20IAS, CtC Amp) socketed ShaeEthShae

She works pretty well, overall, not as helpful as I'd hoped, but she does help, and is actually pretty good at killing off the water snakes while I hork corpses and sift drops...

I had crafted the Colossus Blade years ago for my sorc's merc, but had recently replaced it with a one handed sword after reading about how much better they were for barb mercs. When I started testing weapons for this character, i tossed it in and was quite impressed by how well it did. Apparently, +Damage to Demons is more effective in 1.07, so I socketed in a couple Puls and an Eth, and it works really well. I also wanted to get Find Item as high as I could, and the +3 Warcries really helped with that...between the hat, ammy, sword, and the +skills from Skullder's and SoJ, I only needed 4 WC skillers to get 57%hork under Battle Command.

After @Gripphon posted about the utility of Half Freeze Duration, I dug through my old stashes and pulled out that ring, it really is quite nice! (thanx Gripp!) I started with Mav's belt, but found that my amulet had enough ML and the FRW could be approximated by actually putting a point in Increased Speed, allowing a big increase in safety with String of Ears (15%DR, 15MDR). I initially used Blade of Ali Baba offhand, and Goblin Toes, but when a wizardspike dropped, it reminded me how very awesome it is and I borrowed my sorc's Isted one, and swapped in War Travs to make up for the lost MF and GF...killing speed wasn't notably different...

Thank you very much @WoRG ! Some sweet items there, no surprise. Such a great CB for the task also. Quite heavy with the MF, I think you have mentioned 1.07 Grail few times, so hoping for some uniques or?

I rather keep my ground blue, as rares are mostly garbage :P

Too bad. I hope you'll get it sorted out in the end, or at the very least when you upgrade your computer.

@Jocular I believe it applies to all LoD patches, not just 1.07... I think it was @Fruit who posted about it, but the upshot is when Act5 mercs use their regular attack (not their Stun or Bash attacks), they will hit twice with a one handed sword, but only once with a two handed sword, which means a lot more damage with a 1hander...

@Grape I am indeed getting close to a 1.07 Grail, and running Council with all that MF definitely payed off...I scored several grailers while running them, including Lycander's Aim, Pus Spitter, Headstriker (norm AND eth), and The Fetid Sprinkler...I also scored not just one, but two ethereal Skullder's, which I've been wanting for awhile now :D
I agree that rares generally suck, but at least that made it easier to leave so many items on the ground without checking them, and it helped make charms and jewels stick out...

Speaking of Grail, has anyone racked a 1.07 Nosferatu's Coil? I wonder if it can really drop...

WoRG

@WoRG
Well I had only checked it out in 1.07 (link to post), I don't know if it still works exactly the same in 1.14. But according to the Basin wiki, one-handed sword damage is still doubled in 1.14.

I don't see why not? As far as I know the only weird thing is that Nosferatu's Coil is level 0 (rlvl is 0 too), but I doubt that would make it unable to drop. Or am I missing something? :E
